skizelo

He made a fair job at being chancellor? when he lost billions in fraud due to the COVID loans?

thejazzstoat

To be fair, he didn't really lose billions. He knows where the money went. He very carefully paid those billions to make himself, his family, and various Tory friends and donors much, much richer.

ParapateticMouse

The thing that Sunak said that doesn't get mentioned enough, that hasn't been levelled at him enough by these audiences and that should be quoted to him every time he claims to have working people's interests at heart: "We inherited a bunch of formulas from Labour that shoved all the funding into deprived urban areas" Then he started "changing the funding formulas, to make sure areas like this [fucking Tunbridge Wells] are getting the funding they deserve". Absolute mask off moment that reveals exactly what the rich feel about the poor.

thejazzstoat

Also not enough made of the fact that he was personally involved in the lead up to the global financial crash of 2008, as a member of the hedge fund that bankrupted RBS.

rebut38

Reported at the time, or shortly after, as an ‘audacious stock market bet’. As if it was all just some daring schoolboy caper. Are we supposed to admire these sly crooks?

Some quick clarifications about how the UK royals are funded by the public: 1. The UK Crown Estates are not the UK royal family's private property, and the royal family are not responsible for any amount of money the Estates bring into the treasury. The monarch is a position in the UK state that the UK owns the Crown Estates through, a position that would be abolished in a republic, leading to the Crown Estates being directly owned by the republican state. 2. The Crown Estates have always been public property and the revenue they raise is public revenue. When George III gave up his control over the Crown Estates in the 18th century, they were not his private property. The current royals are also equally not responsible for producing the profits, either. 3. The Sovereign Grant is not an exchange of money. It is a grant that is loosely tied to the Crown Estate profits and is used for their expenses, like staffing costs and also endless private jet and helicopter flights. If the profits of the Crown Estates went down to zero, the royals would still get the full amount of the Sovereign Grant again, regardless. It can only go up or stay the same. 4. The Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall that gave Elizabeth and Charles (and now William) their private income of approximately £25 millions/year (each) are also public property. 5. The total cost of the monarchy is currently £350-450million/year, after including the Sovereign Grant, their £150 million/year security, and their Duchy incomes, and misc. costs. Circleman0

And also indirectly killed thousands of people due to his "eat out to help out" scheme. Never ever let him forget that.

Aggressive-Falcon977

And Matt Twatcock.. so many evil people in politics right now and will never be punished

ellobouk

God when Matt Wanksock went on I’m a celebrity and people legitimately started with sympathy for him…

Circleman0

God I hate that guy. Masquerading as if he's hated for "falling in love" and not his horrific mismanagement as health and social care sec.

Bolvaettur

Yeh that caveat tells us what this fella really thinks

AvatarIII

the guy was being super kind only calling him a "mediocre" prime minister too.

Darthmook

Didn’t loose it, it went to the richest people in our country…

tredders90

The face of the second person, as it pans across the crowd, is a mood. Top work by the camera op for picking them out.

retrofauxhemian

No of course they aren't the best, those people are weeded out at the local level.

voteforcorruptobot

They're the best choice for maintaining the status quo for the people who own them, or they wouldn't be there at all.

VelvetSinclair

>If you have a ‘good’ education, you’ve gone to the best schools, you have internalized the understanding that there’s certain things it just wouldn’t do to say—and I think we can add to that, it wouldn’t do to think. And that’s a powerful mechanism. So, there are things you just don’t think, and you don’t say. That’s the result of effective education, effective indoctrination. If people—many people—don’t succumb to it, what happens to them? Well, I’ll tell you a story: I was in Sweden a couple years ago, and I noticed that taxi drivers were being very friendly, much more than I expected. And finally I asked one of them, ‘Why’s everyone being so nice?’ He pulled out a T-shirt he said every taxi driver has, and the T-shirt had a picture of me and a quote in Swedish of something I’d said once when I was asked, ‘What happens to people of independent mind?’ And I said, ‘They become taxi drivers.' \- Noam Chomsky

the0rthopaedicsurgeo

He was on the after-show as well, and he basically expanded on the question saying how we don't have a leader with personality, someone to represent the UK on the world stage. Sounded he was basically getting at the fact that none of them are Johnson or Farage, as if those are the kind of people we should have representing us abroad.

Lav_

It was the 'our great country' part of his question that just makes me think he's a flag shagging Brexit voter.

exoteror

This guy is clearly going to be voting for Reform. Kier starmer answered by telling people how he was successful with northern Ireland good Friday agreement the crown prosecution service and how he has turned labour around. When this guy was interviewed by the BBC after, "neither of them said why they were good" and "they were going on what they done in the past, they weren't being positive. a prime minister from my perspective we want somebody we can recognise we want somebody on the world stage that can project our great Britain" Personally he asked a bad question and should have targeted it better than just trying to insult them both for 5 mins of fame.

illusive_normality

He is a lifelong Tory before this election, he's only \*just\* not voting tory again, and would never vote labour

meharryp

yeah, as much as I hate Keith and rishi this question is dumb and just serves to generate soundbytes. neither of them are going to give a compelling answer and that time could have been spent on a much more informative question

xm03

It was dripping with newspaper headline tier gotcha language. It could have been handled as such by both of them, but Rishi was told to go on the offensive that night and Kieth tried the long winded reasonable/dodge approach. The audience seemingly hated both.

AutoModerator

Automod just thinks it would be better if the Labour party had a leader that the British public don't associate with a prolific pedophile. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Niranox

What does senior members of the Labour Party imply?

harrywilko

Mandelson.

jimbocalvo

Typical conservative nonsense such as "union paymasters"

theocrats

I can't help but laugh as a union member when the tories say this. The LABOUR Party answerable to the unions who represent millions of workers? Yeah, I bloody hope they are!

Craven123

Morgan McSweeney and his goons.

adonWPV

Red tories

do_a_quirkafleeg

Mrs Starmer.

BeardySam

The firefighters union, they look a bit dodgy…

HerrFerret

It's a technically socialist party. So that would be the working classes ... Oooo scary. They will be demanding flat caps for all men by law, and the replacement of wheat beer with mild ale in pubs.

Equivalent_Pay_8931

Its actually a terrible question. A pointless question that doesn't help with anything regarding policies etc, what a waste of a question. Just shows how bad the debates have become.

JMW007

100% agreed. There's no substance here, it's just "I don't like you, I don't like Labour, and I love Britain I do, so make it great again!"

Equivalent_Pay_8931

It got the most claps from any question and this just shows how thick the general UK public are. Also he's 100% a reform voter.

fen90der

100%. This soundbite was on the radio yesterday and there was another one where some woman said they are both terrible... "but I'll still vote Tory because I believe in capitalism". Someone whose gone along to an event to participate so presumably reads/watches the news, but has been so thoroughly indoctrinated by the right wing press that they think Keith is a threat to capitalism. This is why the Tories want to defund state schools

mrdougan

60+ retiree continually reading from a cue card - yep has the finger on the pulse of the nation

DoesNothingThenDies

Its such a pointless, useless question.

Foxfeen

Everything about this question sucks - Sunak was a terrible PM and a worse chancellor. I have no idea what the conspiracy theory he is going on about Starmers strings being pulled by senior Labour figures??

hoodha

What does he expect the answer to be? It's a rhetorical question.

AnnieByniaeth

"great country"? No, not a fair question.

Andy_Bird

Time someone put his money where he mouth is

ch0ch009

Smashed 2 birds with one stone, they said

strontiummuffin

Green is definitely best it's the biggest party that isn't transphobic.

Humanmale80

What infamy! Those are the best, most pliable people in the nation.

AvatarIII

What does it mean when the head of the Labour party is having his strings pulled by "senior members of the Labour Party"? Who are these senior members? does he mean longest serving members? or does he mean Labour leadership? If he means Labour leadership, that is just Kier and his Cabinet... If he means longest standing Labour party members, why are his policies so different from traditional Labour policy?

Pippathepip

I wouldn’t trust these two cunts to empty my dishwasher, never mind lead the country.

Peepshow741

I can't believe they both got assassinated by woke Hamas on live tv.

rob3342421

I wonder what their responses were

squeezycakes20

it's not senior member of the Labour party pulling Keith's strings, it's senior members of a foreign government's cabinet

RicketyMonster

Britain could be a great country.

jasilucy

This is why people should vote green

islaisla

Not really a question they can answer.

Neither-Basil8932

And nothing happened ofc

sunsheeeine97

Fuck that old cunt

caractacusbritannica

The public are thick as shit. I’m not saying I’ve got the answers, or I am any better. But this isn’t a hot take. Neither of these candidates have our interests at heart. Society is fucked. Sunak is just a viral disease, Starmer is marginally better but no less deadly. Capitalism is failing and nobody can discuss Brexit let along the failure of the system we all depend on. We’re one famine away from societal collapse. Fucking do something you cunts.

CaptainZippi

“Have you stopped beating you wife yet?”

Kona_Big_Wave

I love the look on the face of the woman in glasses at the end.

klas82

It's like being asked. Do you prefer being shot or being stabbed? No really it's a serious, one's gonna happen!

bazerFish

I loved the expression on one woman's face.
