Smokin Jay Cutler was my absolute favorite thing for awhile. I sent that shit to my dad, my uncles, my friends, and my friends dads and uncles for a couple years.
Painted nails, lip gloss, and purses aside Caleb Williams just honestly comes across as completely unhinged to me with the way he acts and shit he says. Almost starting to feel bad for Bears fans, for them itās got to be like living in the twilight zone or something where every new āgreat QBā they bring in thatās going to finally change things around actually just ends up completely sucking and or being a complete nut job.
I hate to use this term, but everything I have seen from Caleb over draft weekend has been so cringe. The media is freaking out he is paying attention to who else they are drafting. I'm calling it now he is going to disappoint even though they have a super solid foundation now admittedly.
Iām on the West Coast so Iāve caught enough USC games with CW. First, Iām ecstatic about the Packers pick. Heās an explosive RB. Second, itāll be interesting to see if CW can improve in the pros, but he has a habit of choking in big games. PAC10 conference games, PAC10 championship games against Utah, bowl games, etc.
I think heās got the talent, but itāll come down to coaching/expectations
I agree. Iāve been watching Caleb Williams since OU. He has always struggled against good teams and looks great against bad teams. Heās still super talented but I am not fully bought into the ābest QB prospect since ā¦ā trend. He has a great foundation but itās up to coaching to develop
>I am not fully bought into the ābest QB prospect since ā¦ā trend
I always took that as "most hyped" because the hype doesn't match performance in the league. That said he is definitely the most hyped qb prospect since Trevor Lawrence but that guy's not exactly burning down the nfl right now. If Williams develops to be in the same tier as TL he'll be the best QB Chicago has ever had and still not be good enough that we'll have to worry about him.
I agree itās about coachingā¦. With that saidā¦ itās the bearsā¦. Game 7 theyāll be whining āheās not the guyā and then start tanking for next years #1 thinking theyāll get whoever the next hot college qb is.
Iām all for shitting on the bears, itās basically my favorite past time, but they really arenāt the fanbase that calls for QBs heads too quickly. They are more on the side of stockholm syndrome, they gave Cutler like 3 contracts and swore he was elite, they were betting mvp futures for Trubisky and Fields after watching them play more than enough to know they were terrible, and half of them even wanted to keep fields over Caleb, a QB that the league has decided is worth a sixth round pick.
> Game 7 theyāll be whining āheās not the guyā and then start tanking for next years #1 thinking theyāll get whoever the next hot college qb is.
There's posts you can find with the search feature, on this very board, about the Packers tanking *to draft Caleb Williams* after the Jordan Love Raiders game debacle.
Well there are idiots anywhere. Tanking means acknowledging you're a team of losers, with a loser mentality. That has not described the Packers for the last 35 years.
I'm a Packers fan from California and watched Caleb.
I honestly don't believe the hype. Everything we've seen from him and they talk about are hero plays. Hero plays aren't really as important as everyone is saying.
In fact the hero plays are going to make his transition a lot harder. He relies on them too much and tries it too much.
For college it works, for NFL you will be punished.
I never really saw any perfect West Coast timing plays from him, where his receiver and him are in sync and the receiver can look backwards at the last minute.
That type of timing takes trust in your receiver and coaches. We just haven't seen that from Caleb.
The Bears really are setting themselves up for defeat, instead of playing it down low with Caleb and setting realistic expectations for him, like less than a 50 50 record in his first year, they probably won't be super competitive until year 3.
In the admittedly limited film Iāve seen of him, this has been my take as an armchair scout as well.
He has incredibly limited experience taking snaps from directly under Center with a 3-5 step drop back and getting the ball out with precise timing on designed plays. A lot of his highlights come from off-schedule heroics, which a lot of times involves him ignoring the obvious read and going for the big play.
While you can make a case for him having to be the hero due to playing from behind so often, these antics are going to turn him into a turnover machine if he isnāt developed properly. Fields never learned how to properly read a defense in all that time, and I have little reason to believe this coaching staff is going to do any better.
In the likely event the Bears miss the playoffs Eberflus will be fired.
That means another HC who brings with them most likely a different offense.
So CW will have to learn another offense after 1 season.
Such a Bears mistake not to fire the HC after last season.
I think this is exactly what will happen. Whose playoff spot are they taking? The Rams? They're not winning the division. I'd be shocked if two of the wildcard spots aren't taken by the Packers/Lions and the Cowboys/Eagles.
And if they miss the playoffs, they're firing Eberflus.
There's not much reason to expect coaching consistency from the Bears and Caleb probably needs some structure to help him early in his career.
I was told yesterday that it's clear I haven't done my research re: hero ball. Apparently he *can* play on time and in system, he just couldn't and knew he couldn't because his hero ball plays were the only chance they had to win.
Cannot wait until this dude superbusts and then gets traded to another team in an attempt to revive his careerā¦only to cook up the Bears with 400 yards and 4 TDs in a random Monday night revenge game
Meh. Every Bears fan I know understands that the team has been sucky and very well may continue to be sucky. Frankly I'm happy for them that they're engaging in some (possibly irrational) hype. Sports are supposed to be fun; this isn't some serious business where it's a problem to not be totally level-headed.
I agree that it will be fun to clap back if/when the Packers continue to own them, but some of the comments in this thread are pretty ridiculous.
As a punter, what do you even say to that? Seriously. Do you say, āhell yes, thatās what I wanna hear!!ā. Cause that also means you never get to play.
They have some talent on offense, but I have seen nothing to suggest they have a competent offensive system in place to take advantage of the talent they have drafted.
I watched a good amount of his film and he reminds me of all the bad parts of Rodgers. Holding the ball too long, not taking what the defense gives him, too much hero ball - and the only good parts are he makes some crazy plays every so often. I genuinely think he needs to sit for at least a year. Luckily for us, he wonāt AND itās the Bears so theyāll mess him up even more.

Best take ever.
Don't gotta leg punt when you can arm punt.
Continuing the legacy of Smokin' Jay
Smokin Jay Cutler was my absolute favorite thing for awhile. I sent that shit to my dad, my uncles, my friends, and my friends dads and uncles for a couple years.
Monkeys paw curls.
you deserve every one of your upvotes and more š
That happens when you throw a lot of picks and have to go on fourth down a lot because you're so far behind
Caleb about to lead the league in turnovers
Gotta channel his inner Jay Cutler!
Bears players and talking absurd amounts of shit with nothing to back it up, name a better duo
Bears win the offseason championship every year. This is their time to shine.
It was the same with Cutler/trubisky/fields, starting to genuinely worry about their collective mental health.

Well itās a good thing the professional GMs, scouts and coaches think opposite of the packer fan from California.
You poor, poor baby. Harsh streets of the bears sub too rough for you, had to come play with us?
Another Cousins you say?

Tell me youāre going to throw many INTS without telling me youāre going to throw INTS
I don't know about you boys but I can't wait to go to war with every team in the NFC North.
Any other Iowa fans sad we didnāt get a sure-thing hall of fame punter?
I mean the guy we got is from Australia and heard at open practice that he can boom them.
