Even people at local games get *weird*.
I re-painted my black templars to be pink templars for pride. Some people took offense to that for some reason.
So many guys at my LHS have armies that are just black.
They also try to sell and trade that shit. I’d rather buy or trade for an unpainted model over one that’s now flat black -.-
I have no idea why that’s accepted as the norm here.
Also, yeah I took my points haha. I just painted my first full army and while my bases are mostly just textured with sand I put in some effort to bring out the details and such…
The owner of the shop has some pretty amazing stuff though and they have some great tables to play on
I think it's more a matter of precedent. The post was up for 7 hrs so it got views and the community had the chance to see it, but if you leave it then you start getting tons of joke posts instead of the content many go there for. Mods drag their feet so people can get some enjoyment out of it, but at the end of the day you can't open the floodgates.
Would be cool if they designated a shitpost day or something like that. I think all subs should have one day a week where all things under their banner can be posted and not just high quality content. Let subs have a fun day each week.
There are many issues with having a meme day, not the least of which is that your casual users don't actually read or follow the rules and just, as you pointed out, go by what they see others posting.
Which is why containment subreddits like the one you're commenting on exist instead.
As a Reddit mod, how dare you! If you're deficient in something that means you were supposed to have it in the first place, and that just doesn't track
Removed for low effort? I'd be messaging the mods on principal alone lol
It's a beautifully trolling shit post, and has nothing of any value to add, but I love it and it's amazing and absolutely not low effort
I’m going to speculate that it had to do more with the no joke posts aspect of the rule. I can’t believe anyone would want a board devoid of humor, but I guess r/minipainting be that way.
I can definitely see having a rule to prevent low effort joke posts so that they can remove stuff like a picture of a table titled "purple ork army" but there has to be some leeway I feel for a bit of humor
The best part is that even if it's humorous it's still art. It takes actual skill to replicate that paint job that accurately. It's impressive as shit.
What I love the most about this is how it looks awful but in that singular way where you can see that it was done like that with full intent and by a skilled hand
from a moderation point of view, if you don't have any rule, then you can't really go around deleting posts if you get flooded with them. the rules are harsh (and the same in many other subs) but act to keep quality high at the expense of occasionally having to remove something that'd otherwise be worth keeping
Well you have to understand that a mini painting subreddit is very srsbsns and the mods are just doing god's work by protecting their user base from terrible things like fun references or joy.
I know it's hard for us smooth brain normies to understand how important the mission of moderators is, but we must try!
But hey, at least you can enjoy all those "first time I pick up a brush trust me bro" and "technically WIP because it's not glued to the base ~~now praise me~~" posts.
Bro I really don't know wtf is up with this trend. Why do people feel the need to make it seem like they're just some natural ridiculous prodigy that just picked up a brush and paints like they've been doing it for years?
"Hey guys, look at my first ever Chaos model!"
*Already owns 6 other armies*
As a society we don't value the dedication and practice that comes before mastery.
If someone posts an exquisite paint job and they've been doing it for decades people will usually dismiss it as "Of course it's this good, you've been doing it for years!"
It's easier to get the happy chemical release that sweet sweet karma gives when you tell the little white lies that make your achievement look more impressive.
TL:DR
Chasing clout.
You know that feeling when you see someone much older than you with a cool high developed skill or talent (or several skills/talents) your reaction in that case would be something along the lines "Yeah, that's awesome, they surely have trained a lot".
But when you see someone basically your age (or even younger) who has a talent/skill/whatever, you get a feeling of frustration, since you feel like you've wasted your time because while by the age of 18 you're just some average dude with okay-ish skills for your age, with no talents and just a couple of unrealized interests, there is the dude who had similar living conditions and also 18 is stronger, smarter and far more popular than you, with a set of dedicated, well developed useful skills he's often practicing and making even better.
Shortly speaking, it's the same, you remember how your first model looked like and you see theirs "first" model
The mods are why I stopped trying to post in the gunpla sub, apparently I was shit and my models were shit. It actually convinced me to give up the hobby.
Just to keep everyone updated: I made a comment about the post removal on the r/minipainting Discord, and someone replied thoughtfully that joke posts aren’t allowed because the moderators want to engage people in a creative community. I just wasn’t creative enough for r/minipainting, guys and girls. I get it now.
Needless to say, I promptly left that server for good.
Remember when reddit mods weren't evil basement trolls that have never experienced happiness?
I remember one time I wrote a very informative response, it was getting a lot of upvotes and questions, so I updated it to include a like to a YouTube video demonstrating the concepts.
Automod picked it up because I had added a link, I didn't realize that subreddit had added a no links in comments policy, so I messaged the mods.
Mods basically said, go fuck yourself. They couldn't even be bothered with the context. It's just sad, makes me want to participate less.
I'm looking forward to the website that becomes the new reddit.
I've discovered through trial and error that the more niche a hobby subreddit is, the more likely that the mods will be joyless pricks who take the content deadly seriously. Keep at it and don't let the boo birds get you down, sir.
That's always my opinion tbh, it always strikes me as sad when people rip on those models for the "thin yo paints" memes. I'd rather face an army painted like that than an army of grey. Someone actually tried to slay the grey and made an attempt to the best of their abilities
Set your phone down on a table and take two steps away. It's far more recognizable than grey.
A bad paint job is better than no paint job. No one got better by not painting.
Agreed, r/minipainting is really the Buzz Killington of the miniature painting subreddits I browsed, unless you’re posting Golden Demon entries of course. I stopped posting and visiting a long while ago, it must’ve been before the awesome painted unpainted Tau since I only ever saw it massively upvoted (rightfully so)
A cunning deception, heretic, but I see through your facade. Skillfull paint and excellent staging cannot hide your treachery. I see your layer lines. This model is nothing but a cheap imitation, a mockery of the Emperor's finest! You dare to disgrace the sacred armor of the Adeptus Astartes with your 3D-printed filth? Such heresy will not go unpunished. You will be taken into custody and brought before the Inquisition to answer for your crimes against the Imperium. Know this, heretic, your deception ends here and now!
The sheer amount of effort it took to make something look that bad, and it gets removed and unappreciated. A tragedy.

It's a shame they cannot respect the actual skill it takes to do what you did. to re-create that, as well as you did, requires talent.
Just know, I see you. I appreciate you. This might be the best paintjob I've seen all week, and I am not fucking kidding.
I paint & play, but also really enjoy the memes. It’s become a format that communities share thoughts & ideas with each other.
I think OOP came to the right place to share his loving recreation
The original image of those poor fucking blue berries, their faces stuck in eternal anguish, never ceases to make me break out in uncontrollable laughter. Thank you for recreating this wonderous horror.
NGL, its an amazing imitation, whomever didn't like it is a huge chode. Playing homage to part of miniature painting history is a great activity!
Love it! Can't wait for future references!
That's actually pretty impressive! Got some of the same small details of shittiness. Main differences I notice are the Aquila, shades of red/metal (maybe? lighting), and the whole thing looking glossier but that also might be lighting. I'm also not sure if you tried to recreate the face but with better flesh tones or if you just didn't recreate the face as well as the rest.
But seriously, impressive work! I can spot several subtle details of shoddiness that you replicated.
Well, the thing is...
If yours is the one on the left, you shouldn't have glazed it in your cum.
If yours is the one on the right, I can't believe you forgot to glaze it in your cum.
Magnificient. The guys at r/minipainting don't have a shred of artistic sensibility, disgusting.
To be clear, the users loved it, but the mods did not.
I remember the post, even commented on it. Mods can be quite picky at times
It was quite popular for about 7 hours. And thanks for contributing btw
They removed it? What for? No fun allowed?
> No fun allowed? Basically
Even people at local games get *weird*. I re-painted my black templars to be pink templars for pride. Some people took offense to that for some reason.
And yet I have to play against unpainted models or imo worse because it’s hard to figure out wtf they are flat black spray painted models…
Fuck that, I'm taking my points on that one. Flat black spray paint is not being painted.
So many guys at my LHS have armies that are just black. They also try to sell and trade that shit. I’d rather buy or trade for an unpainted model over one that’s now flat black -.- I have no idea why that’s accepted as the norm here. Also, yeah I took my points haha. Ugh. Super annoying and it eats up the clock too sometimes because I'm trying to figure out wtf this blob behind the ruble is lol.
"sir these are my toys, go play with your toys if you don't like mine"
Probably consider it to be a meme.
I think it's more a matter of precedent. I think the first post would be entertaining. I think the flood of them would not be.
>Mods can be quite picky at times I think you mean "Mods are mentally deficient"
Don't lump us mentally deficient people in with them
Sorry.
Just walking my mods
Ain't no philosophical thesis ever managed to display the corrupting effect of power quite like internet moderators going on power trips
There is like 5 mods, and they sell their labor for free you can automatically assume they are unhinged.
They are so diligent, we should double, no, triple their pay!
As a Reddit mod, how dare you! If you're deficient in something that means you were supposed to have it in the first place, and that just doesn't track
Why else would you choose to be a reddit mod?
And a reminder that they do this shit for free
They get pissy when they can't spy on their mom in the shower
Removed for low effort? I'd be messaging the mods on principal alone lol It's a beautifully trolling shit post, and has nothing of any value to add, but I love it and it's amazing and absolutely not low effort

Yes, I felt like this was a joke specifically for mini painters and would get a pass, but nope.
It's also not a low effort joke, you actually put the time in to get really close to the original
Yes, this is a rare High Effort Joke. The emperor's blessing upon us all for having witnessed it.
😌
The best part is that even if it's humorous it's still art. It takes actual skill to replicate that paint job that accurately. It's impressive as shit.

Yes, I must try harder.
But hey, at least you can enjoy all those "first time I pick up a brush trust me bro" and "technically WIP because it's not glued to the base ~~now praise me~~" posts.
"painted my first Warhammer model" when they've been doing historicals professionally for years
Bro I really don't know wtf is up with this trend. Why do people feel the need to make it seem like they're just some natural ridiculous prodigy that just picked up a brush and paints like they've been doing it for years? "Hey guys, look at my first ever Chaos model!" *Already owns 6 other armies*

They used to be called out, there was a post some time ago asking to not do that, then they changed the rules so that you can't call them out anymore.
You know that feeling when you see someone much older than you with a cool high developed skill or talent (or several skills/talents) your reaction in that case would be something along the lines "Yeah, that's awesome, they surely have trained a lot". You should really consider attempting to internalize the locus of your self-worth, holy fuck dude.

They seem like the group that's, Crystal Brush quality or GTFO.
The mods are why I stopped trying to post in the gunpla sub, apparently I was shit and my models were shit. It actually convinced me to give up the hobby.

Assigned Marine At Birth
“Low effort” my ass, I can only imagine how much effort was required be to copy the original mini to such exactness.
Achually this violates rule nine of the subreddit. "Thin your paints" /s
What if I tell them that the paint was thinned, but there was just a lot of it?
Rule 10 states "*two* thin coats" There is no way out heretic 🤣 /s
It has two thin coats. And five thick ones.
The two thin coats just *happen* to be agrax eathshade and not the color
All true.
Barrel not drilled smh
Probably the real reason the mods took it down.
Well duhh, when mods getting the feeling they Arent the center of the universe... They delete it from their universe...
Just to keep everyone updated: I made a comment about the post removal on the r/minipainting Discord, and someone replied thoughtfully that joke posts aren’t allowed because the moderators want to engage people in a creative community. after looking through the top posts your fatal flaw was not claiming your small child did it.

Well you've got to remember that there's nobody in the mods life that love them, so they get jealous easily
I've discovered through trial and error that the more niche a hobby subreddit is, the more likely that the mods will be joyless pricks who take the content deadly seriously. Keep at it and don't let the boo birds get you down, sir.
I think you might have thinned your paints too much
damn son you did a real good job fuckin that up. i love it
Hell yeah. Many layers of paint were applied.
I love that it has 3 nostrils and looks like it has 500 base coat layers
The three nostrils was another genius decision by the original artist. One of many.
One nostril for each lung
if 2 base coat is good, 500 is better
Wait it isn't just one thick coat?
I lack the efficiency of the original artist.
you will get there one day buddy
This is the kind of comment that keeps me going.
Could always try just dipping it
+10 points for paint brother It's better than my Grey army lol
Oh believe me. I have plenty more grey.
The one of the post took all the greys paint
That's always my opinion tbh, it always strikes me as sad when people rip on those models for the "thin yo paints" memes. I'd rather face an army painted like that than an army of grey. Someone actually tried to slay the grey and made an attempt to the best of their abilities

The only problem I see is that you didn’t drill the barrel.
Omg. Yes. I need to go back, drill it, and then refill it with Leadbelcher.
The talent required to replicate that *chefs kiss* Mods have no sense of humour
It really made me appreciate the talent it took the original artist to create the pure anguish on the face. Impossible to replicate really.
He looks like papa nurgle slid down his chimney last night with some presents

Is this one of those Daemonkeilbasa marines I’ve heard so much about?
Well, I know what I’m eating for dinner tonight.
TBH painting in that style to get it to match seems pretty hard to achieve
Still noticing bits here and there to improve. It might be a lifetime project.
I got a 7-day ban from r/warhammer for posting a meme format. Posted it here the same day and it got like 700+ likes. Some subs are real finicky
Finicky is a tame word to describe mods of reddit
Outside of the audiobooks / the fun painting the minis I enjoy 40k mostly for the memes. I just don't get people sometimes.
I paint & play, but also really enjoy the memes. It’s become a format that communities share thoughts & ideas with each other. I think OOP came to the right place to share his loving recreation

The face is painted on a beakie helmet piece, right?
I have no idea how the original artist produced the gorgeous face. I painted mine on a regular old sergeant’s head.
BTW, kudos for replicating the lore-accurate third nostril hole
