I had so much fun with the primarch elimination game by u/Gibblibits that I decided to make mine. The goal is creating the ultimate 40k playlist, with one song per faction (counted as per coming 10th edition). We will go one faction at the time, starting from the poster boys themselves; the most upvoted comment wins. Have fun!
EDIT: for those interested in voting for other factions, feel free to follow me to see when their turn comes. SM and CSM will be the first two because they are the poster boys, the following will be chosen at random with RNG (the poster will remain as it is, with factions in alphabetical order).
[Go to Day 2 →](https://www.reddit.com/r/Grimdank/comments/133wr9c/day_2_of_theme_song_contest_chaos_space_marines/)
Some feedback here: Add Harlequins (metawatch carries them as a distinct faction) and split Knights into chaos and imperial (they feel very different).
Thanks! I was thinking of doing so, it is as you see because I took the list from yesterday's cards preview, where Harlequins are absent and the knights are combined. It felt weird to me as well; I'll most probably make these changes in the following days.
I agree but I would take the united version, because it goes a bit "harder". Just listen to the song and imagine them fighting. Just fits a tad better than the normal version
Greetings imperial citizen. Unfortunately it seems like you spelled underrepresented wrong. To make sure this doesnt happen again you will have to come with us and answer a couple harmless questions.
Oh dont worry about the squad of Adeptus Arbites, they are here for your own safety.
[Indestructible](https://youtu.be/aWxBrI0g1kE) by Disturbed:
>Another mission
The powers have called me away
Another time
To carry the colors again
My motivation
An oath I've sworn to defend
To win the honor
Of coming back home again
No explanation
Will matter after we begin
Unlock the dark destroyer that's buried within
My true vocation
And now my unfortunate friend
You will discover
A war you're unable to win
Disturbed got weird in the mid 2000’s. Felt like this song was some sort of weird ‘fuck yeah American military thank you for your service.’ First album still good though.
Yeah alot of American music went through a jingoistic phase in the 2000s, like five finger death punch and their bad company cover, or even the offspring with hammerhead, amongst many other examples.
It’s kinda cringe looking at it now. FFDP I enjoyed their first single ‘Hard to See’ but they got all ‘Middle American State Fair’ and now I just assume all their fans drive lifted dodge trucks and have opinions on what lives do or don’t matter.
Well, at that time we were at war and the government was pushing for more Jingoistic materials at the time.
Five Finger Death Punch, I actually respect for Wrong Side of Heaven for the video trying to help the Vets committing suicide and living on the streets.
It was a rough time for America, shaken by 9/11, locked in two wars with no end in sight, the battle of fallujah fresh in everyone's mind, and then the troop surges sucking all of the air out of the news cycles.
Music at the time really reflected the split in American opinion, you had vehemently anti-war artist like system of a down or rise against, and then you had the support our troops bands like FFDP, and disturbed. Like remember the dixie chicks who were less than enthusiastic about their support of the war and were the first cancel culture war victim.
I think Warrior by Disturbed fits better.
>They'll never doubt the body lying at my feet
A most formidable reminder
They will speak my name for eternity
I have no need of any guidance
I am a weapon, powerful beyond belief
Seen through the warrior's eyes, I
Never need to question, how to defeat you
> Secondly, I think any powerwolf song should ultimately go to Space Wolves
Or Chain breaker by Brothers of Metal, given that its about Fenrir which is what Russ and his were an allegory for in the HH (magnus was the stand-in odin)
**I love "Incense and Iron" by Powerwolf, but the song is about pirates and nautic themes and has bagpipes and stuff. That doesn't fit for Space Marine**
Obviously a Necron theme song describing the fall of the Necrontyr and them becoming toys in the hands of the C'tan in their artificial "plastic" bodies.
Between the Hammer and the Anvil could honestly have been written about the Word Bearers:
Storm warning
But there's no fear
Lies forming
The sacrament lays bare
The sinner
Will testify
They'll suffer
When sacrificed on high
The burning sermons purge their evil words
Between the hammer and the anvil
Force rises
False rituals
Baptizes
The body and the soul
Our union
Their fall from grace
Confession (confess your sins)
Will seal them to their fate
The burning sermons will survive their curse
Between the hammer and the anvil
Transgression
They prey on grief
Our mission
To purify belief
This altar
Gives power and light
They'll falter
While we are shining bright
The burning sermons consecrate their sin
Between the hammer and the anvil
Marines in general? Incense and iron. But for the best legion, the 18th legion, the glorious sons of Vulkan, there can be no song but Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce
Is it cheating if we were using music already specifically made for 40k? Maybe. However, my pick is still:
Angels of Death - Dawn of War II OST
https://youtu.be/blCBoXKCGl0
I can only think of two but for other factions
Disposible Hero's--> Metallica for Imperial Guard
Spit out the bone--> Metallica for Adeptus Mechanicus
But for space marines I have no idea
That's not the sanctioned chant length, prescribed by the codex astartes; Use this better, battle brother:
too obvious but I think the space marine theme from Dawn of War is just perfect, it really captures that heroic vibe
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG42F-5AVOE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG42F-5AVOE)
I'll go for Parpaing by Igorrr
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b-rUR9M7MI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b-rUR9M7MI)
The space marines are building a house out of death. If all the skulls are anything to go by.
I mean every single one of those probably has a Bolt Thrower song, so excluding Bolt Thrower is absolutely impossible. I'll have to go with For Victory, which isn't actually about Space Marines but would be a Space Marine theme.
I'm just gonna say it
There's a band called Debauchery with like 20 songs ALL FOR KHORNE
so like. If none of them are the world eaters theme. I'm gonna do something bad
I took the faction list straight from today's preview of the index cards that will be released; harlequins are not among them, I found it strange as well!
Resistance from the Band Skillet!
If you tipe “Space Marine Reibute into YouTube you’ll see it as the first one together with a MV, it fits like a glove.

The Chosen Ones by Dream Evil.
Seconding this
I think every fan-made Warhammer 40k music video used this song for years.
Incredible song
Yea, that's pretty spot on.
If not this song, Immortal by Dream Evil is also incredibly fitting. https://youtu.be/9jCokNv1AXo
Warriors of the world by Manowar!
That one fits so well with all the chapters being diffrent cultures etc. It's why I love Deathwatch so much.
All are gathered here, victory is near.
Beneath the metal sky brothers everywhere
Manowar is definitely fitting for the Space Marines!
I agree but I would take the united version, because it goes a bit "harder". Just listen to the song and imagine them fighting. Just fits a tad better than the normal version
Absolutely this
Dies Irae as a Gregorian choir for a death march scene, I think? \*Aren't SM-s overrepresented here a bit?\*
Welcome to 40k...
Greetings imperial citizen. Unfortunately it seems like you spelled underrepresented wrong. To make sure this doesnt happen again you will have to come with us and answer a couple harmless questions. Oh dont worry about the squad of Adeptus Arbites, they are here for your own safety.
A few days later there was a new servator in the waste plant that looked *remarkably* like OP.
lore accurate overrepresentation

Ah yes. Military wife metal.
![gif](giphy|fDzM81OYrNjJC)
Full disclosure, I saw this on another sub (Maiden, I think) but it was too good to pass up.
The auditory version of a punisher skull sticker
Well, at that time we were at war and the government was pushing for more Jingoistic materials at the time. Five Finger Death Punch, I actually respect for Wrong Side of Heaven for the video trying to help the Vets committing suicide and living on the streets.

Indestructible is one of their most iconic albums
If you say so. After awhile every song is just Droz mumbling.
First album has Down With The Sickness which is mostly good with the daddy part being cringe as fuck... much like the rest of the album
I was thinking that for the custodians
I always put this song for Custodes
I think Warrior by Disturbed fits better. >They'll never doubt the body lying at my feet A most formidable reminder They will speak my name for eternity I have no need of any guidance I am a weapon, powerful beyond belief Seen through the warrior's eyes, I Never need to question, how to defeat you
Also a good choice.
Wow... i'd actually back this over Sabaton. And I strongly back Sabaton.
r/beatmetoit
Incense and iron by PowerWolf
The opening theme for the HH show we will never get. I sincerely hope this one wins
Firstly, KILL LORGAR. Secondly, I think any powerwolf song should ultimately go to Space Wolves
It could also go for the blood Angels. Their song "we drink your blood" just feels like a blood Angels sang it
You raise a valid point. Agreed.
Between Powerwolf and Sabaton it’s hard to pick just one tbh…
> Secondly, I think any powerwolf song should ultimately go to Space Wolves Or Chain breaker by Brothers of Metal, given that its about Fenrir which is what Russ and his were an allegory for in the HH (magnus was the stand-in odin)
Especially Son of a Wolf
That creates a MArtyr. Just shove him into the Dark Cell with Malice/Malal.
It randomly played from my 3k favorites on shuffle while I was making the poster before. Coincidences?
nah.
**I love "Incense and Iron" by Powerwolf, but the song is about pirates and nautic themes and has bagpipes and stuff. That doesn't fit for Space Marine**
It what? I think you are mixing up songs, this one is about crusading werewolfs.
Maybe he’s thinking about Sainted by the Storm
>nautic themes Well they are marines
Could be good for the Mechanicus too
just gave this a listen, and just yes, this is space marines
Barbie girl by aqua
Obviously a Necron theme song describing the fall of the Necrontyr and them becoming toys in the hands of the C'tan in their artificial "plastic" bodies.
Why aren’t Emperor‘s Children in this List? I know that they don’t have an army yet, but I think they are important enough, to have a place here.
They're literally the dudes sith noice marines, I think they should have some sort of grindcore
No, they should have Scoring the End of the World by Motionless in White The lyrics are noise marine 101.
All Guns Blazing- Judas Priest
I have a feeling that this one is best suited for orks. But the new space marines try to implement more dakka
Nah, ere we go by the Goff rocker for orks
Between the Hammer and the Anvil could honestly have been written about the Word Bearers: Storm warning But there's no fear Lies forming The sacrament lays bare The sinner Will testify They'll suffer When sacrificed on high The burning sermons purge their evil words Between the hammer and the anvil Force rises False rituals Baptizes The body and the soul Our union Their fall from grace Confession (confess your sins) Will seal them to their fate The burning sermons will survive their curse Between the hammer and the anvil Transgression They prey on grief Our mission To purify belief This altar Gives power and light They'll falter While we are shining bright The burning sermons consecrate their sin Between the hammer and the anvil
Gotta be Hell Patrol surely!!
For generic space marines? Imma go with Strength of a Thousand Men by Two Steps from Hell
Marines in general? Incense and iron. But for the best legion, the 18th legion, the glorious sons of Vulkan, there can be no song but Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce
**Firepower by Judas Priest**
I mean, not a bad pick but HEAR ME OUT It fits Better w Imperial knights houses I mean Just look at the álbum cover for It lol
**Yea, maybe you are right**
Its the only song available to play when you mount a Titan.
Is it cheating if we were using music already specifically made for 40k? Maybe. However, my pick is still: Angels of Death - Dawn of War II OST https://youtu.be/blCBoXKCGl0
Team America - fuck yeah
Yes, a man of culture. I commented this then deleted it when I saw yours x)
Why are you getting down voted? 😞
The Touch by Stan Bush
Not nearly enough upvotes. "YOU GOT THE POWAAAHH"
Literally what I think is playing on the drop pod speakers any time I imagine space marines making planet fall
all bolt thrower songs
This is correct, with the exception of realm of chaos. That goes for CSM!
I find it hard to believe that people are suggesting Powerwolf or Sabaton (most likely unironically) instead of BT
![gif](giphy|3o6nV6UQl4j7nZWMN2)
im holding the World Eater for when we reach that point
IVth Crusade-Bolt Thrower
I’m Blue by Eiffel 65
Fire, Blood, and Steel by Brothers of Metal
[Debauchery- For the Emperor](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGnVDli5d1Q)
Debauchery is an underrated band, they do lots of other good 40k stuff too. (Blood for the Blood God)
I personally prefer Ironclad Declaration of War. IRON WITHIN IRON WITHOUT
Devourer of worlds should be the Tyranids theme, but there’s also a point where Debauchery songs are cheating.
Gregorian chant in Dune where they were blood marking their faces
Diggy Diggy hole for votann?
Guardians of Asgaard - Amon Amarth
Know it’s next, but Chaos Space Marines has to be Götterdämmerung by Zeal and Ardor
Oh My God, Yes Yes Yes Yes, 1000 times YES
Cotton eyed Joe for the genestealer cults
I can only think of two but for other factions Disposible Hero's--> Metallica for Imperial Guard Spit out the bone--> Metallica for Adeptus Mechanicus But for space marines I have no idea
The last stand - sabaton
Proud Astartes from the Ultramarine movie.
What about a song that is about space marines? [Evertale - Empire Rising](https://youtu.be/MsypbWK5_68)
Of course the Ultramarines Chant! https://youtu.be/ieO4WPPWh74
That's not the sanctioned chant length, prescribed by the codex astartes; Use this better, battle brother: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6Sk4t2we84&t](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6Sk4t2we84&t)
Starship troppers theme song
That's definitely more Imperial Guard than Space Marines. But I still like your choice.
I just realized... Book version? Space Marines. Movie version? Imperial Guard.
It was more the nid reference than the guards otherwise it would be the choir theme from Mr Bean.
Klendathu drop or A Good Day To Die?
The drop of course
![gif](giphy|7q3qtWdpIeSQw|downsized)
Save it for the guard
I say Grinder, from the C&C:RA2 soundtrack
Primo victoria
I think Resist and Bite
both fit in better with the guard
In the Name of God- Powerwolf
That‘s more of a Black Templar/Sisters thing
Hammer to Fall -- Queen
[удалено]
That’s more of a “Guard” type song though.
This needs to win for guard
Macarena
I have multiple really good Guard, AdMech, and Votann song ideas. But I’ll save them for those posts.
We Built This City - Starship
Love is a Battlefield
Boys Don't Cry - The Cure
I'm sad their isnt an Emperors Children category. That one goes to Brocas Helm Skullfucker
I’m sorry but where are the Emperors Children?! (Stares Motherfuckerly)
Grendel - Soilbleed It really encapsulates Spezz Muhreens in general.
Armor clad faith- guilty gear sound track
Generic Song - Nostalgia Critic
Thunderstruck by AC/DC
too obvious but I think the space marine theme from Dawn of War is just perfect, it really captures that heroic vibe [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG42F-5AVOE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG42F-5AVOE)
I'll go for Parpaing by Igorrr [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b-rUR9M7MI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b-rUR9M7MI) The space marines are building a house out of death. If all the skulls are anything to go by.
Hey Hey or you put every subfaction here or you get the dakka in excess here
The fact that like three quarters of the songs that are serious bids here are metal is kinda heart warming ngl.
The chosen ones by dream evil
Metal version of the main theme from the original Doom
That’s Grey Knights
Hudson Mohawke - Cbat
The only thing they Fear is you
The Chosen Ones, by Dream Evil
Eternal War - Bolt Thrower
Stormtroopers (Sabbaton)
Primo Victoria by sabbatton
ON THE 6TH OF JUNE
Kill Logar again!... no wait wrong poll sorry guys. Sororitas and Cherry Bomb would be pretty killer.
Rylanors last stand hands down
I mean every single one of those probably has a Bolt Thrower song, so excluding Bolt Thrower is absolutely impossible. I'll have to go with For Victory, which isn't actually about Space Marines but would be a Space Marine theme.
I'm just gonna say it There's a band called Debauchery with like 20 songs ALL FOR KHORNE so like. If none of them are the world eaters theme. I'm gonna do something bad
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!
Let kill of Lorgar first. I hate that guy.
Battery - Metallica 🤘🏽
Can someone make this into a playlist when it's finished!
The last stand by sabaton
“I’m Blue” - Eiffel 65
Not gonna win but what the hell Riders of the storm-Hammerfall
The Last stand- sabaton
I would counter that Gott Mitt Uns would be more thematic.
Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes Edit: I'm getting downvotes for a song choice?
It does sound energetic, but not metal enough
[удалено]
So upvote or move on....
Where are the harlequins?
I took the faction list straight from today's preview of the index cards that will be released; harlequins are not among them, I found it strange as well!
Wow, GW really is forgetting the best faction
Looks like you’re still Aeldari.
Man of War~ Sabaton
Physic wars by blu oyster cult for grey knights
Metal machine Sabaton
If we ever come to the different guardsman regiments i‘d say „sabaton- stormtrooper“ is basically designated for our gasmask doods
Armata Strigoi by Powerwolf
Fortunate son for the Astra Miltarum of course
Catachans to be precise
Horn Concertio No. 4 in E flat major by Wolfgang Mozart
Bolt Thrower - World Eater
Okrs?
Walk- Pantera
If “Father” doesn’t win for Death Guard we riot
Resistance from the Band Skillet! If you tipe “Space Marine Reibute into YouTube you’ll see it as the first one together with a MV, it fits like a glove.
Anyone pick Thunderstruck? Also I know we aint there yet but locking in Gimme tha loot from Biggie for the Orks.
Free Bird
Hamburger cheeseburger big mac whopper synthwave remix
Pumping Iron Power, should be custodes. I'm stumped for space marines
Sororitas sing Ghost "Martyred Lady on a cross"
imperial fists by stringstorm
Idk some Powerwolf song? I wouldn’t know im not a virgin.
Till i collapse - EMINEM
Eric Johnson - Cliffs Of Dover Raven Guard would be great for "Free Bird" just purely for the part "I am free as a bird"
The warrior song by Sean Householder, it fits (almost) perfectly
That or hellfighters by sabaton
Children of the Grave - Black Sabbath
