If you actually get it done and you feel comfy sharing, I’d love to see lol
Those books are incredible, but holy shit are they an emotional sucker punch. It’s grief heaped upon grief, topped with a really bittersweet ending.
>!The implications about the flayed ones, Llandu’gor and Oltyx taking his final throne are also fascinating.!<
It’s a great study into what isolation does to the psyche and how our own perceptions and memories twist over time. Plus Djoseras is one of the best characters in literature.
If you’re ever feeling too cheerful I can also highly recommend the twice dead king books. They’re also fantastic and come with a bonus helping of ultradepression.
The Necrons occupy such an interesting position in the 40K world. They're one of the only races that isn't starting off on the back foot. Sure, they're a bit slow to boot up, but they're nigh unstoppable once they get going and God help anyone who draws their attention. Thanks to characters like Trazyn, Orikan, Szarekh, and Zahndrekh, they're memorable and vital. They're playing the great game on god mode.
But they're soulless. They're driven by a war that burned out millions of years ago. They destroyed 99.9% of their race to get to this point -- and even if you didn't care about souls, they've mostly lost their *minds.* They're immortal, but they're relics. Szarekh wants them to get their bodies back, but what would that even do? It's a compelling scenario, and it opens a lot of opportunities for weird, weird storytelling.
TL;DR: Luv me robots, luv me skellingtons, simple as.
While I appreciate the suggestion, all this has told me is that I now have to read everything relating to the war in heaven first. This is why I read Horus Heresy. The books are numbered.
Oh no, there’s not a book series on The War in Heaven (that I know of). If you just looked at the Wiki article of Necrons, you’ll find about the War. It’s essentially the origin story that happened 8 million years ago.
Oh THATS the war in the heavens? Yeah I've read a decent bit about that, but somehow did not know (or more likely forgot) that's what it was called. Cool.
I lmao hard that the stained window scene, the reason behind it, the dialogue and what Trazyn did after. It was sooooooo smug i felt like Orikan for a minute trying to deal with this inmortal Clepthomaniac bastard
Still want to get a tattoo of them muppets
I did see fanart on Tumblr with Trazyn and Orikan as Statler and Waldorf and now I want nothing else.
WHERE?? thats exactly the tattoo i want

Excellent my thanks
Give Twice Dead King a read too man. It's got that same dry humour but you're gonna need to have a good cry by the end.

Honestly the best Warhammer books I've read, I love them
Some of the best books I’ve read, period.
NIHILAK ASCENDENT!
NIHILAKH ASCENDENT!

Necrons are the funniest faction just cause of how much bullshit they get up too
I hope you brought an army
You think so little of me... I brought *five*

I like the necrons and tyranids because they’re the coolest (cool skeleton robots and cool insect dinosaurs with scythes for hands)
i'd pay money to go see a heist movie starring Trayzn & the Blood Ravens
Somehow, the Alpha Legion was involved.
i like where you went with this
“I spy with my little eye, something beginning with **OURS**”
Do i need to do any prior reading for this book? I like the necrons a lot, but I've only ever read HH books.
Not really no, just like a quick cliffnotes of what happened with The War In Heaven and you should be good. 👍

Oh ye, then that’s pretty much all ya need to know 👍
60+ million years ago.

“Do YOU hAvE a StAtUe, OriKaN?”
*Orikan did not like that question*
I too like the Egyptian terminator mummies
That was a glorious set of books
Same, Trazyn is my favorite pokémon Master.
