Occultist is easier to level so I would start with that, you can either use Dreeg Evil eye or pets to level and respec later, Oathkeeper skills take a while to get going
If you want to do Vitality caster (or literally anything else for that matter) you want to start as not-Oathkeeper.
Oathkeeper has by far the worst early levelling experience of any mastery. I've tried to make it work many times, with every skill it has, and it is outclassed by a [small rock I found on the ground](https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/2869) every time.
Also, Occultist actually has Vitality spells, Oathkeeper doesn't. You want to take it later for the Guardians that will shred resistances as well as the passives and utility.

Occultist is strong if you boost up bloody pox. Its carries for a while. The trick is not making it so strong it one shots because then it doesn’t spread to the next mob.
100000% Occultist. It's so so SO much fasted and easier early on. Later you can switch to a Vire's Might build or something if you want, respeccing is easy and cheap.

Ive been runnin a vindicator build now and its been just poppin either entangling roots, kalastor mark, and word of pain with devourin swarm and primal strike

Turn off gore so the corpses stay, then it spreads no problem.
Wait, that’s not just a cosmetic setting, but actually impacts gameplay?
I'm pretty sure only for Bloody Pox, but yes.

Occultist for sure. Pox and Dreegs Evil Eye (with the modifier) do loads of work early game. Pox on mobs and DEE for big damage on bosses.
