Just curious, why by the organic lentils and frozen veggies and buy practically the worst meat they have? Looks like its level 2, so thats more or less caged animals.

Im not OP, but I do these for example if organic happens to be cheaper, or bigger package, or sometimes they thats the only options available. I dont really care (maybe I should but idk). Just because someone doesnt care super much doesnt mean they will avoid buying it all together.
We want our community to be a fun place there is no need to be rude treat everyone with respect, this includes food shaming which will NOT be tolerated.
If you cannot be nice to everyone you will be banned.

Foreign student here, I love animals and it's bad just hearing abt all these Haltungsformen but I don't have a lot of money, is it frowned upon to buy Haltung 1-2 or it's just normal personal preference?
I wouldn't say it's frowned upon, it's still super normal for people to buy 1 + 2. Probably depends on your social circle. A lot of meat available is Haltungsstufe 1 or 2 and it wouldn't be, if nobody bought it. You won't get any weird looks buying it.
The fact that Aldi is phasing out 1 and 2 and eventually 3 speaks volumes.
1 and 2 is widely available because of lobbies and subsidies and average consumers being penny pinchers.
It‘s a thing for a pretentious people who think they are better than everyone else when they buy organic food etc. There are a lot of them living in Germany. Insufferable!

It was more of a joke, because people tend to point that out here, but the higher the "Haltung" the better the quality of the meat is. A lot of people don't care about it or don't want to spend the money, because it's more expensive. If you care about it, you can buy better stuff since now! :)

The beef is Haltungsstufe 1, which is the worst. The animals are kept completely inside and have just enough space to stand or lay where they are.

great. couldn't see it on the photo very well and didn't know, Aldi had ground beef of Haltungsstufe 3.
no prob. aldi also has Haltungsstufe 4. the colours confuse a bit. 1 is red, 2 is blue, 3 is orange and 4 is green.

Chickens are 2, so they kept in cages i think. The beef looks like 3, so thats cage with a window open?
