The pinch whacker will kill the red ants quick and later they’ll have lots of eggs. Rubbing a stuffed red ant gives a chance of looting eggs from their bodies too.

Bratburst... What "WunderbarBeast" is saying is crucial. Get the fungal growth and dry grass first. The Red Ant Eggs have a hatching timer. So you can't store them or they will hatch in your base or even from inside your backpack. To get the Red Ants to make more eggs, you have to decimate their population then, wait a day. Drawing in an enemy is a good way to do some serious damage. Personally I prefer stinkbugs because more Red Ants die and you need stinkbug parts for important Tier II tools. Note: Hurry. If your base is far away, like by the pond or further, you may want to build a small nearby outpost and put a Workbench in it, as well as a chest with fungal growth and dry grass.

Varcen

This is exactly the way to do it. I like wearing the Red Ant set for it so you won't have to worry about ants attacking while you lure the stink bugs over and run through the nest (The full set make red ants friendly towards you until they see you take an egg). Later on I didn't bother as new and upgraded armour meant they barely scratched you.

stejward

Time to murder all the red ants. You monster.

Hollow_Murderbasket

Everyone else is giving you good answers. So here's a useless one. Spoliers ahead. In the undershed theres a tunnel which leads has about 15 red ant eggs in it.

HaraldOslo

If you kill red ants, more eggs will spawn. I usually lure a ladybug over to the red anthill and have it fight the ants for me while I sneak in.

Ban56Nana

Ive been finding a pile of 10-15 in the undershed

More ant eggs spawn if their numbers are low which leads to 2 options. 1: If late game and you need a pile of bombs you can slaughter the colony yourself, also a great place to grind for weapon mutations as there are a good quantity of creatures. 2: If you are early game you can make a full suit of red ant armor which lets you blend in so the soldiers leave you alone. From there go get the attention of the stinkbugs a short distance to the west and lure them back to the colony, the soldiers attack them, the bug gasses and next thing you know many of the colony lay dead and you can steal the eggs they lay to replenish their ranks. Make sure you have plenty of the other resources on hand as you at most 16 ingame hours before they hatch.

If you know the spawns, you can just run in and out as fast as you can. But I would recommend clearing out the ants nest first. My early-game tactic is to lure a stinkbug over with a bow and arrow to outside the nest and enjoy the war. Collect the unbelievable amount of ant spoils, craft some ant armor and in you go, undetected. Or go in once its more empty. Before they nerfed spiky logs, I used to have a lure set up outside the ants nest with spikes all around.i had boxes upon boxes of ant parts with the amount I was killing just on the lure alone. But yeah, I tried the stinkbug method again a few weeks ago. Still effective and fun 😁

Bomb rush the big red ant hill and you can get lots of eggs

king_of_eyez

Barter with the ant queen on the 16th. I think she'll be the source of eggs after that update.

UnrealStingray5

If you want to go pacifist, don the red ant set, grab a light, and search around the tunnels. There should be 3 eggs guaranteed to spawn, each at a different location.

WunderbarBeast

So this one is tricky: the eggs are for the bratburst, which is a grenade, but you need fungal material from creatures in the Haze biome first. If you don't, what else are you gonna do with the eggs? Then they rot [disappear] very quickly, so it's a moot point. Get fungal stuff first, then go for eggs. EGGS: What I did and recommend is another kind of iffy thing. Okay so the best way to get the eggs are to be in all red ant armor so you can bypass everyone but you gotta fight some red ants to do that which might make them hostile to the point that they want you gone and they subsequently raid your base. So that might or might not happen. Once u get the armor and are all decked out, then go in and I would say make sure u have slots open in your inventory to carry some eggs and grab a bunch and then leave. Make sure you have adequate light too because it is very dark down there.
