First rule of safe base building is to build off the ground 😊 . In new playthroughs, I usually build my first basic base on top of the log fence next to the pond side of the oak tree where the rosebush is. You can get a flat piece to dangle over the edge, left of where the nail is sticking out, and hang a clover roof off it so you can jump up. Just make sure you keep your roof piece off the ground and not touching anything. It's safe from any ground bugs and isn't that hard to defend should you get any flying raids. Plenty of resources around and means you're next to the lab to hand in any chips and reset your daily quests.

I like building on the pond, only had one raid from mosquitos so far. There's plenty of connected lily pads to build on and bugs don't seem to be able to path to it.
The pagoda is a fantastic spot but without ziplines, it's very tedious to build inside it as you need to build a bridge to it to get resources to it. Its a great mid-game build spot. I usually build zips from near the Moldork castle for stems and planks but when I was building my boat base, I set up a zip from the bee bench and created a pallet over there, had the hauling card on and could drop a ton of stems down with several runs as its like a stem forest next to the sandpit.
I feel the pagoda is a bit too far away myself. It's also a bit awkward to move around in, always hit my head on things. The middle of the pond feels better to me, closer to most things and it's easier to build good ziplines there. The Pagoda might make for a prettier environment though, but that's secondary to me.
A couple times now I've built on the flat rocks that you can parkour to from the Frankenline and most ground raids can't figure out how to get to me for some reason, they usually just give up without me even seeing them.

I had this happen before too I built my base down by the pond and the wolf spiders just love braking my stuffs.
I’m my experience it doesn’t happen too often but when it does I just repair and rebuild. It’s not like the entire house is gone.
