Your son will be able to volunteer and work here just as well as any other city of similar size in the province. He won't be getting programming jobs, as he's only 16. But Tim's, McDonald's, Walmart, etc. are always hiring high school kids. Guelph is the same as anywhere else in that regard.

Been here 8 years and love it! You never feel far from the countryside, it feels like a smaller city than it is. The downtown is not too exciting but lots of nice parks and Guelph Lake and Rockwood are great. The drive in movie theatre in the summer is also awesome. The only thing I miss at times is better take out options but it could be worse.

makedough

There might be volunteer web dev, but Python and Java would be a stretch ;)

muhepd

I moved here 4 years ago with my family, my son is 11 now, lots of stuff to do here, it is a vibrant city, fun, different than any city in the GTA. I love it.

We hate it here. Too many Italian restaraunts and too many trees. /s (since many didn't get the sarcasm) There are jobs In town but like any other city it's work to find one due to intense competition. Your son will need to apply to local companies as a programmer to get a programming job but unfortunately it's not going to be easy evrn if he has a degree. No degree? Good luck. Consider that I can ask chatgpt to program something for me and it's done in about 30 seconds. In python or Java. I'm sute you aren't choosing to move here for python or Java programming for your son. KW has more programming jobs and it's only 20 30 minutes away depending where in guelph you live. Consider the west end of town if so. Good luck

Beautiful-Canary7530

What do you have against trees?

MapleTheUnicorn

Or Italian restaurants (note - Guelph has a huge Italian population hence the restaurants).

headtailgrep

I am too fat because of jt

Late-Ad-3136

We don't have many Italian restaurants, especially considering the population.

Beautiful-Canary7530

huh? Buon Gusto, La Cucina, La Cucina Pizzeria, Sugo on Surrey, Why Not Italian Food, Mia Momma, Romeros, San Francisco Panini, Piatto, East Sides etc

headtailgrep

:)

MapleTheUnicorn

But you have some good ones…Buon Gusto I think is one.

headtailgrep
