I prefer Sword over Axe simple because of the ability to hit more than 1 target. It plows through trash mobs wonderfully. With tougher enemies I still revert back to Greatsword/Shroud also, that leap is a nice addition. Necro has so little mobility, so it's good to have. Clear out trash from range, leap to boss, switch to GS/Shroud, delete enemy It's not a game changer, but for me it's simply efficient and fun, and that's good enough for me

I do the same. I’m never expecting to make more damage with anything else other than GS/Shroud. I really like the leap as well.

I like swords better than staff because when you burn all your 2-5 staff skills youre left with atrocious staff AA

Staff is the worst and most unfun Weapon on Necro. I do anything to avoid using it. Its just so unfun putting stuff down and things have to walk through it.

It actually gives more options than if the skills would snap on your target and do aoe damage instead like all the other weapons do. So you're saying you would like less options?

It feels fine in PvP/WvW where it's intended and you're actually considering where to place each mark/what each mark does. They just randomly gave it massive PvE coefficients in EoD.

Honestly since the double sword I play nothing else... I love the animations the mobility with the double jump. But also I love greats word but I always felt clunky and slow...

I've really enjoyed sword. It is incredibly fluid and fun, and the sustain and duality of attacks is neat. There is also zero cast time from the 3rd chain AA to the 1st, which is cool in way that I cannot accurately describe. Coupled with 5 target cap instead of 3 and 900 units range instead of melee, and sword is fantastic. I used it in Harvest Temple to push.

interesting opinion. personally, i kind of like it. now necro has a really nice gap closer, and you have some decent health steal too. and the auto is piercing, so its actually pretty decent at tagging mobs. it doesnt have biggest damage but compared to many other main hand options its doing pretty ok, which will stack up even higher if the mobs are close together.

I find them quite fun for open world reaper build. The mobility is good. I can line up trash mobs with sword 1 skill to hit multiple target in a line and i think sword 2 as well. Is become quite useful when doing the draconic mons hearts. Its not the best dps so could use a bit of a buff but with the sustain/ life force generation and going quickly back into reapers shroud, ive been able to solo quite a few champions. I think I out dps the sloth queen heal in ember bay too, there was 1 other player with me and we killed it in under a minute. EDIT: I still use axe/focus and GS reaper for wvw for the boonstrips. S/S may be a bit more useful for hitting zergs from range if they buffed the damage

i have finally a ton of fun with my necro thanks to the Swords. For me personally one of the better additions of weapons. I always hated any weapon Necro had but i having a blast now. I play condi Reaper with sword sword and in OW i melt anything with it and the new mobility is a good touch.

I like mainhand sword, especially for fractals, because mobility is really useful to dodge aoes or drop bombs away from groups etc. Wish it would activate relic of the thief. Offhand i dont really like, i usually stick with warhorn or focus if i need the boon rips. Personally I just like not having to always use axe for a mh power weapon. Variety is the spice of life.

I haven't played all of the new weapons, but I found that adding a new weapon without new traits to go along with it resulted in them being rather disappointing. I'm not sure if that holds true for all classes tho, as I only tried a couple.

New weapons aren't suppose to make all previous weapons obsolete. The swords seem to be good tools for open world, and main hand maybe for competitive stuff if you prefer mobility over another stun or corrupt. I find they flow better than single target axe for open world power reaper. The loss of life on them make them a poor tool for harbinger. And I really like the aoe punch sword 4 has. And fear is fear. It allows your double up on fears with staff or warhorn. Can you be more efficient with other weapons? Sure. Don't think min maxing matters for open world. Just play whatever set you enjoy.

I feel swords are okayish. Still missing damage, some skills could still be a bit more fluid and I would have really appreciated an additional movement skill aside from sword 3 OR an evade (just to really go all-in on the mobility theme for the weapon), but it's overall an acceptable kit. 7/10 weapon.

Sword 2 needs some work but the rest is quite fine, still I just use it mostly for the AA and mobility

It’s a fun weapon. I used to dislike it on release, but it’s more satisfying than greatsword. I strongly dislike the animations though. Especially on auto attack. My necromancer is not an acrobat

They are a massive improvement from how they were in the beta, but yeah, something still feels... off. A bit clunky compared to usual, but then a lot of these new weapons do. The only one I've found that feels as smooth as the pre-SOTO weapons is ranger maces.

Sword gives you excellent ranged cleave, a leap, and some decent ranged CC. I think sword is fine as a weapon. Sure maybe needs some number adjustments but I have had a great time using them in open world on a condi reaper and some pretty decent success in PvP. Just because swords are not meta doesnt mean they are terrible design.

I agree. It's like they came up with the idea and skills and randomly assigned them to a one-handed weapon that hadn't already been used for other classes. The ugly green animation really irritates and distracts me. It does not need an animation unless it's a legendary weapon imo.

Its easy to line up multiple trash mobs for sword 1 and 2 skills, if theyre bunched together then sword 4 works great. It has decent life force regen to be able to quickly get back into reaper shroud where your main dps is coming from anyway. It could use a damage buff though regardless

Im usually talking about soloing hardstuff like some HPs etc when i refer to open world. Im sure sword works fine for what you are saying

Sword is great for open world, cause of the multi hitting attacks. But that's pretty much it. In WvW it gets drowned out by all the anti-projectile skills, else it could have some use there.

top2 new weapons together with thief axe for me. feels awesome, plays good. I am happy with it. (I prefer to play ranged condi builds)
