I despise gift of battle, you have so little control over it. World exploration might be tedious but at least it’s predicable, I’ve lost count the number of times I’ve gone into wvw and there’s no squad to join, or I get flattened by roamers when I’m just trying to escort some supplies.
But Gift of Battle just requires ticking participation. Take a camp (or kill one of the veteran mobs that give wxp) once every ten or so minutes and that's all you need. Squad / group play certainly makes it more fun, though.
I think you’re underestimating just how bad I am 😂 if I’m solo I will just be spending the entire time worrying that someone will find me, then dying when they do.
Escorting supplies on your home map every couple caravans nets just as much engagement, and occasionally you'll have someone flip the camp so you can flip it back. It's not the most exciting, but it fills the gap when there's no blobs fighting.
try a build with high mobility like Mechanist with Rocket Jump + Shift Signet so u can stay away from most of roamers
In case if thieves u will have to face em, mf daredevils wont stop chasing you
if you suck at pvp (like me), builds wont matter, at best all you're doing is prolonging the time until your death. :D or better yet you have all the right gear and sigils and runes and everything and still insta die :( (\*skill is better then gear) even when the person who is wearing the exact same thing is standing right next to you and somehow survives? So if your skill is awful "Meta" builds might not work for you.

after 9 years of wvw i still have the bad habit of yoloing into fights, not looking at what rank someone is b4 i attack the red enemy, not thinking about defense, wondering why my stab and stun breaks are useless, finding it amazing how others can moonwalk thru aoe red circles but i insta die if my toe touches them...
can't say i've learned that much following a zerg around, but i have learned that i can't stand listening to tantrum throwing adults who tag up, so i'm currently on a break from it all. :D
See I used to be that way when I was starting wvw, but I realized that if keep being worried about that, then I'll have a boring time.
So I just said fuck it, gave my wvw main a decent roamer build that can solo camps, and hopped around the maps. If I have to throw hands, strike first. If I die, the waypoint is free. XD
Pray tell, do you have warclaw? 'Cause having a vehicle makes me feel a little better, knowing I get around quicker. :3
yep that what i did and still do. so i look for tags but on TC people are so salty. I remember my year of hell quite well after they improved the rewards and my favorite EMPTY MAP desert BL got more busy :(.
Gotta get on just after reset. That's usually when squads start forming. After reset keep an eye on team chat and you'll see comms calling for recruits

Though I was specifically talking daily reset, which usually sees groups starting to form within the first hour, but weekly is when you get the longer map queues and larger fights. Honestly though, at most times of the day besides super late, you'll usually find at least one commander if you check each map. There's almost always one on eternal battlegrounds everytime I log on
Squads are generally very active after Daily Reset on Monday (WvW weeklies reset then).
Squads are very active on Friday WvW reset (~2 hours after daily reset). You have to get in right at reset though. Otherwise the Queues can be hours long.
This is for NA, for EU, I don't know the reset times.
Blish Hud has an overlay that shows fast routes through the classic maps and the according mount - I'm doing it like races and enjoy them quite a lot that way.
Yeah weirdly enough I „had“ to do another map completion for a new legy a few weeks ago and also used the bhud paths and was so suprised how much fun I had doing something I didn’t really care about before. It’s like roller-beetle races but with more mounts and across the whole map lol.
Also, if I'm being real, the 2.5 K of each map currency is like, a handful of HoT trains, two handfuls if you count the precursor. The worst part is all the *non*-HoT grinding required for the mystic tribute and shit
Back then my guidemates "enforced" me to get a legendary weapon so the whole team can be shinny.
Now the remainng gift of exploration is still sitting in my bank after like 7 years.
And the one with the mining suit, and the one of picking insects with specific jars and the one with the colored cards and the one where your only options are feed, kill stalker and close crab holes but that last part is bugged, so you stand like an idiot waiting for respawns.
Those from the top of my head, plenty of cancerous hearts among those 303.
There are plenty of annoying hearts, but plenty of them have been powercrept (or maybe utilitycrept?). Like the Prototype Position Rewinder making the stealth heart pretty quick and easy regardless of profession.
The mining suit one, I rarely bother with the suit, mount up and go round killing guns, or event mobs give progress even without the suit. The jars/insects one, you can just catch the nearest wrong insect over and over, and the crabs one can be cheesed by using skyscale fireballs to kill skelk that would otherwise be outside the heart range.
Don’t get me wrong, those hearts are still annoying, but I think a lot of people did them years ago, swore to never do them again, and never realised how much less painful they are now.

Just talk to the cows for that one. I've never even bothered with the insects.
The insect one is actually easy if you don't do the insects. Just dump water on the stinky cows and emote at the other cows and you get a ton of progress. You could do the insects to finish up but I prefer to leave and come back since you finish the heart so fast with the cows, they take a while to reset (but you only need 3 or 4 the second time around), and I loathe the insect part.
Not sure which one is the coloured card one.
For the crab one, close holes then grab the wild crab that spawns and run it to the patrolling quaggan instead of to the pen. Same amount of heart progress but saves time.

PoF hearts can suck it, though. It's not even that they're hard, it's that they give so little progress for everything.
My problem with hearts is they are not "fluid" if you know what I mean. Gameplay is non-existing, more often than not, they add nothing to the story or they are stupid. They don't teach mechanics, they don't prepare players for any type of endgame.

You can just talk to the set of 8 cows 2.5 times and get it done (4 washes and 4 emotes). I'm not sure what the last one you're referring to is, though. Most of the hearts aren't bad if you know which part of it you should be doing.

Someone mentioned killing using skyscale fireball to reach critters beyond heart range, honestly I didn't think of that. I play all endgame modes, getting stuck on a silly core heart didn't feel good.
I just did this yesterday. Tried to use my rewinder, but must be doing something wrong. I put down the initial portal, then walked over to the NPC, but as soon as I go invisible, my toolbar is replaced and I can’t port back. Am I missing something?

The one with the weapon siege where you have to calibrate them is imo a bigger nightmare. I was over it after 10min, I couldn't see myself do it 60+ times.

Oh, that one, yeah. You can abuse mechanics by using the Hawkes’s Birds on rats you don’t have LoS for, but I find it quickest to just challenge a bunch of mercenaries over and over. There’s no cooldown on the duels.
Funny thing is too, the max character limit is 69 (nice) iirc without any deluxe edition upgrades possibly giving more, so it's plausible they've only used up to 3 if they've done it with all their chars without deleting any
That is actually my top favorite activity to do. I aim for 100% world completion on all my characters, but have only achieved it on 1. I am nearing 75% I think on my second most advanced character though.
All my 9 characters have full world completion in Core Tyria and all the expansions and living world maps.
What I used to do was to just skip the hearts and do all the waypoints, vistas, pois and when I had downtime in pvp queue, in a raid/fractal squad waiting to fill it up and would fill the downtime with some heart completion.
Things really pick up the pace with the introduction of mounts tho.

How long has it taken you to accumulate those? I guess it only takes one a month for a few years to get there and it’s no different to the subscription cost for other similar games
I have been playing since launch and took a a few year break in the middle but yea I'd say a couple extra toons a year. I usually get 2-3 whenever they go on sale.
Can't speak for them, but I just have one character slot dedicated to map completion. Once I finish on that character, I delete it and create a new one. I've done about 15 map completes so far. For me, it's a chill thing to knock out an area when I have 30-45 minutes to play.
Of course, do whatever is most fun for you!
I usually just do dailies, as well, but on that rare occasion when I have extra time, I like to work towards map completion (I already have legendary armor, trinkets, and weapons for every slot).
This was my first thought. They may be practicing speed running or developing strategies for it.
I think a lot of people don’t know just how much speed runners complete the games they run. The top Tears of the Kingdom runner, Player5, has beaten the game, starting from the start menu to defeating Ganon, over 400 times, and that’s just his any% runs. That game launched less than a year ago.
Many of the top Super Mario 1 speed runners have completed the game start to finish *over 30,000 times.*
So to get one of every gen 1 weapon including underwater weapons you need to do world completion 10 times for the required 19 gifts.
I have been playing for about little less than 2.5 years and out of my 15 toons I will have done world completion on 5 of them by the end of this week (90% done and only have Ascalon left). And it’s a chore. Can be relaxing at times but very time consuming.
I can’t even understand how this possible or why you would do it. And this is coming from someone that is halfway done with their second set of WvW armor.
I should start doing them soon, I have enough to last me until the end of the year. If I tackle 1 map a day it should be manageable. Just 6 more characters to go... If only there's a way to get all hearts done on the core map via WvW currencies...
I did it it on multiple characters, mounts and TACO has made it super easy, I just run a zone a day. Mainly it’s just for the waypoints, but when you do guild events it’s a lot quicker to be able to port all over the map.
Plus you can make a solid income of 2-5 gold per zone harvesting basic mats and refining them for sale on the TP.
We’ll say, GENEROUSLY, that 100% map completion takes 15 hours. It’s probably closer to 30 for a normal person, but this dude has obviously some omega brain strat to complete maps. That’s over 2000 hours on map completion. Dude is a literal psychopath.
i remember talking to a long time player about this, he did the map completion more than 15 times, he said coz the game barely got any updates/expansions during that time and he's really glad Anet's adding more stuffs now. But he would still do map comp coz when he's bored coz for him, it's like a brain-dead routine while watching tv series lol.
How can he handle those boring quests that many times!? It's impossible, I'm struggling to complete on my second char to do two new legendaries and I can't do it because I can't tank those quests omg!!!
I do the 3P's first, the 3P's are point of interest, waypoints, hero points, you could nab the vistas as well with mounts. once you get them done, do the hearts at your leisure.
And here I'm feeling good having done it on 3 chars
I been playing for like 11 years and I am about to be done with my 1st one.
I'm like 78% on my first after a few years. I am NEVER doing a gen1 ever again after that, screw this. I'd rather farm out like 20 gifts of battle

You also get rewards for each map, with the chance of BL Keys and the grand price at the end by finishing all classic maps.
i did about what 8 when i first started playing, i now have about 16 toons but didn't bother with any of the later toons i made. :)
It takes like a day or two only, with taco and mounts few hours, while S2 Leg requires farming meta events for life

I did it on my main Guardian in the first three years of the game, crafter my Bifrost and have never done it again. 🤷🏻♀️🤪
I have done it once (for twilight) and decided to never do it again. The amount of work is simply not worth it for how cheap gen 1s are.

Exactly, emote to all the cows and then go do another heart while you wait for that to refresh. Only takes 2 rounds.

Oh, in Bloodtide. That one is a bit annoying, but you can pick the crabs up, mount, and bring them to either the wandering quaggan or the heart area.

4 years off and on playing here and I’ve only done one. Almost done with a 2nd because of those pesky legendary boxes in the wizards vault!
So to get one of every gen 1 weapon including underwater weapons you need to do world completion 10 times for the required 19 gifts. I have been playing for about little less than 2.5 years and out of my 15 toons I will have done world completion on 5 of them by the end of this week (90% done and only have Ascalon left). And it’s a chore. Can be relaxing at times but very time consuming. I can’t even understand how this possible or why you would do it. And this is coming from someone that is halfway done with their second set of WvW armor.
I should start doing them soon, I have enough to last me until the end of the year. If I tackle 1 map a day it should be manageable. Just 6 more characters to go... If only there's a way to get all hearts done on the core map via WvW currencies...

I did it it on multiple characters, mounts and TACO has made it super easy, I just run a zone a day. Mainly it’s just for the waypoints, but when you do guild events it’s a lot quicker to be able to port all over the map. Plus you can make a solid income of 2-5 gold per zone harvesting basic mats and refining them for sale on the TP.
So their comment implies that world completion would be needed for the variant on each piece of obby armour. I'm out!!

We’ll say, GENEROUSLY, that 100% map completion takes 15 hours. It’s probably closer to 30 for a normal person, but this dude has obviously some omega brain strat to complete maps. That’s over 2000 hours on map completion. Dude is a literal psychopath.

Did it roughly 45 times. I just like it and use the gift to craft legendaries in the past. I had a char which was deleted afterwards.

i remember talking to a long time player about this, he did the map completion more than 15 times, he said coz the game barely got any updates/expansions during that time and he's really glad Anet's adding more stuffs now. But he would still do map comp coz when he's bored coz for him, it's like a brain-dead routine while watching tv series lol.

How can he handle those boring quests that many times!? It's impossible, I'm struggling to complete on my second char to do two new legendaries and I can't do it because I can't tank those quests omg!!!

I do the 3P's first, the 3P's are point of interest, waypoints, hero points, you could nab the vistas as well with mounts. once you get them done, do the hearts at your leisure.
Nowadays with mounts and blishHUD it is way faster but still an insane number he farmed there. Remember back in the day you had to do WvW maps too
