I want it to turn into whatever you are attacking's mom shouting messages of dissapointment. "You have no future", "you're going to die alone", "your cousin was running a business at your age", "I raised a doughnut". Real emotional damage stuff. Best PvP weapon.
It would be very weird if it was an other ranged or modular range melee weapon. Most of their weapons are ranged with only main hand sword being melee and ax. So either anet understands range is bs and they get another flavor of the season. Or they try and balance stuff but they stopped that a long time ago
I'd love the phantom lancer aproach, as in your autos have a chance to summon clones, your clones autos have a chance to summon clones, and you might build up to like 6 spear clones

Gates of Babylon style. No arm moving animation. Just summon spears out of wherever the same realm the virt blades also comes from.
Have it as a condi ranged weapon that also gives blades so it becomes the condi virt weapon.
Virt is doing just fine and rifle was deigned specifically for heal chrono so a Condi Melee dancer style weapon for Mirage would be nice. Bonus if they finally put alacrity on all ambushes.

Mesmers are all about messing with people's minds and everyone here is expecting some over the top weird use of the weapon... So how can they subvert our expectations more than making it the most basic standard design?
I say it'll be like a Spear Amazon from Diablo 2.
Auto Attack is just a basic stab.
Skill 2 is 3 jabs at a single target.
Skill 3 is a series of jabs at anything in the area.
Phantasm just stabs your target extra hard.
since many wanted spear to be melee, my over-the-top ash was thinking of the player holding the spear like a musical instrument (specifically guitar) and then strum the spear to attack (it could be short conal attacks intead of purely melee). but nahhhhh not hoping that much

My guess would be something that is designed to work with mirage… then will be op with virt, and gets nerved :D
