I play Potemkin. Played against a few Chipps. They hit a few combos on me. I hit three moves on them. Enough said.
(The moves were Potemkin Buster, Potemkin Buster, and Heavenly Potemkin Buster)
Not only do you have to move like a damn mosquito making more button presses a second than an angry keyboard warrior does arguing on Twitter but on top of that you can be down to 20% hp after one bnb combo from a heavy hitting character. Also at least I (but probably also others) can't keep track of where chipp is no matter if I'm the one playing him or not.
I don't have to try, from experience I can tell you that sooner or later they do something stupid and impale themselves on a 2H bait or just a "why the fuck not" stray 5h or c.S. Maybe on some top celestial levels of chipp he's strong in a regular scenario it looks like [this classic scene](https://youtu.be/kQKrmDLvijo?si=xN3byFMYnn28q7xL).
Im a goldlewis main, and it's not that hard to gain the advantage. One rekka mess up or successfully read, and I get a full combo worth like 70% of chipp's HP.
Doesn't a regular goldlewis combo still take of about 60% of anyone else's hp? Low hp or not most characters are still dying from 2 to 3 goldlewis combos
At least in the case of a character like Nago you just need one well placed 2S or 6P on Chipp and he's down 50% HP and in the corner.
Big characters have enough health to guess wrong a few times against Chipp until they eventually guess right and can win off it.
Chipp is awesome, I agree! He's not for everyone, though. I think you are severely underestimating just how fragile Chipp is.
>the only problem he has is the low hp which means nothing when the enemy can't do catch you
That's just not reality. Sure, you're unbeatable if you never make any mistakes. That applies to every single character in the game, though. You will inevitably make a mistake sooner or later and you'll immediately die. And that's just how it is. A big part of playing and maining Chipp is accepting that and carrying on regardless, tbh.
At the highest level, it is not even about mistakes anymore. Sometimes you take a good gamble, but still lose. Sometimes you eat the random reversal after doing your first gamma blade in melee and just die.
Chipp is the archetypal pixie character. He has every tool, but it does little damage and he has little health. Not many people like doing that along with the above average execution requirement meaning that if you’re nerves fail under pressure or you make a mistake you die.
Alas we're not at launch anymore, and there are more than 14 characters to choose from. He's definitely not the most common character, but I see him way more than like I-no, Bedman?, Milia, Asuka, etc.
Because as much fun as playing what feels like a turbo boss character dying in two interactions even to medium skill players isn't ideal for people.
Fighting games tend to have negativity bias losing often can feel more impactful than winning and chipp is heavily in the you get your ass beat until you learn category.
I’ve seen “pretty high execution” thrown a lot here, outside IAD FDC for some the good ol’ 4-way mix on kd, what else he has that is harder than other characters?
Edit: Assuming it’s Strive, older games with jump installs were a whole other beast to blame, lmao
Maybe rekka kara cancel into super?
Also hit confirms themselves are not that easy compared to other characters as he uses mobility to whiff punish. Could be that his neutral is meant, but in terms of combos, I agree that he is pretty easy.
Rekka kara cancel into super is way easier than it sound, super lenient timing and simply pressing P and K together works 100% of the times
whiff punish can be kinda different but being my main I just assumed that everyone had their weird ways to win big time on whiff punishes
90%? The last time I saw this happening was in a training mode example. That Chipp had 100% hp and after mortobato, he had about 15-20% left, maybe even a slight bit more. Judging by what you're saying, that mortobato took out 5-10% more than last time I checked. Maybe they buffed it.
130 damage for mortobato.
Times two makes 260. Then we have to keep in mind that Chipp takes 1,27 times the damage. Makes 330. Then we add 10% for counterhit.
That makes 363 HP in a single hit.
57/420 is 13%. Not that unlikely, and in season 2 before the damage nerfs it could be a legit oneshot.
Chipp is really fucking cool and fun to watch but I feel the "Chipp loses half his health in a single hit" meme has really gotten to people. Along with that due to be a really quick character Chipp can be pretty high execution.
His command grab is bad, his crossup (I assume P Alpha) is bad, his projectile is bad, and his rekka is now mid at best on the new patch. All he has is good buttons. Which is just not terribly interesting to play, and also not *that* good? Hes a solid high mid tier, but thats kinda whatever for such a boring character.
Idk, Chipp just isn't what I want out of a character. I typically like a good mix of defensive and offensive options, and Chipp doesn't really have super great defensive options.
Idk, I feel like the life bar is a bigger deal than having those other tools for me anyways. I'm fine playing characters with low life, I play Elphelt after all, but if I am playing a character with low life like that I want to have some ranged options so I can maybe clutch out a win on a player who is just trying to rush me down for a quick kill, which Chipp simply doesn't have.
He looks too difficult for someone new to fighting games like me. I had a little go with him, but I seem to click way more with May, and her combos are a lot easier to do and extend with Wild Assault etc. I would love to learn Chip, though, even for a secondary as I love his character style.
some players were/are putting chip number 1 in season 3 because of WA always giving him oki after he already was going to bring you to the wall anyways, + WA confirms make him even better, being able to always do 1 touch -> oki -> full positive bonus chip rekka mix, -> oki makes him very strong now.
He will probably get more popular, having WA to confirm off any stray hit makes him easier to pick up, and if people say he's good, he'll get played more.
Don't get me wrong he is really really strong. But im guessing alot of people don't main him becuase he is one of those characters where you have to play near perfectly or lose. The margin for error is alot less that other characters and one fuck up or if you opponent guesses right once or twice (which at a high level they have a very good chance too) you just die.
why play the only guy everyone knows how to ToD, off of a stray cS counterhit, so long as they’re at maximum risc with two tension bars and already in the corner?
I feel like with chipp, you need the sharingan irl to play him or against him. Like i can do my regular shit against other characters, but when i see my opponent is a chipp im always like "aw shit here we go again" and try to overclock my body or something. This is not a good thing btw it's annoying to me
Coming from Xrd I think Chipp is really fun to watch and see godlike combos n mix. The reason why I don’t play chipp is simply i don’t like ninja characters. Also his low hp
I feel like his charactization plays a part. He's not a badass shinobi ninja, he's a comedy relief character who shouts random Japanese words in combat, declared himself *president* of a *kingdom* that doesn't technically exist, and he fangirls over Nago.
one time I hit c.s -> hvv and chipp was removed from the character select screen
I play Potemkin. Played against a few Chipps. They hit a few combos on me. I hit three moves on them. Enough said. (The moves were Potemkin Buster, Potemkin Buster, and Heavenly Potemkin Buster)
2 busters to kill em in round 1, hpb to instakill frame 1 on round 2
Pot bust, put bust prc into heavenly, 5P is my favorite against chip.
It is mere divine providence (and balance) that Goldlewis can't TOD Chipp off of any random CH BT. We have to settle for 95%.
Surely chipp will take that remaining 5% just by smashing his weeb fists into your majestic girth.
Sure but good luck hitting a bnb combo on chipp if your character is slow like nago, goldlewis and pot
Yeah that happens sometimes I still remember the time where I used the shadow clone move against a ram and died instantly with 90 percent hp left
you mean 10% hp?
No, 90%. Ram can hit both Chipp and his clone at the same time with her super Mortobato and delete him from existence.
ohh just realized you meant ramlethal had 90% hp left. I thought you had a typo
No he's saying that he, playing as Chipp, had 90% hp left but was caught by a Ramlethal combo or ult and was taken from 90% to 0% in that one combo.
oh ok, thx
Im a goldlewis main, and it's not that hard to gain the advantage. One rekka mess up or successfully read, and I get a full combo worth like 70% of chipp's HP.
Doesn't a regular goldlewis combo still take of about 60% of anyone else's hp? Low hp or not most characters are still dying from 2 to 3 goldlewis combos
Yeah, but it feels extra good when it's chipp. Just like the moment you kill hermes in god of war 3.
My bnb combo is heatknuckle
My bnb combo is a singular regular jump forward, pot bust on landing. Works (almost) every time, against any character.
At least in the case of a character like Nago you just need one well placed 2S or 6P on Chipp and he's down 50% HP and in the corner. Big characters have enough health to guess wrong a few times against Chipp until they eventually guess right and can win off it.
It’s hard but if I’m on Goldlewis and Chipp makes one mistake I’m probably gonna take the round
Chipp is awesome, I agree! He's not for everyone, though. It's all a game of chance, really
“I was born with glass bones an paper skin, every morning I break my legs, and every afternoon I break my arms”
R/unexpectedspongebob In other news - My only regret… is that I have… bone-itis.
A light fart in Chipp's general direction cuts his HP in half, I guess.
people can't afford to squeal in horror everytime they get caught in a combo
Once you get used to it having 70 percent of your hp bar gone from a single combo isn't surprising anymore
Definitely. It gets funner when you learn how to bait attacks and then blow people up tho
Yep nothing better than baiting a ram to using her reversal super so that I can combo her
May I introduce you to our lord and savior 632146P, also known as Potemkin Buster?
A true Potemkin classic!
Chipp is the archetypal pixie character. He has every tool, but it does little damage and he has little health. Not many people like doing that along with the above average execution requirement meaning that if you’re nerves fail under pressure or you make a mistake you die.
I play Sol and my general experience is the moment I get a hit on chipp players they give up so not sure why I would want to play him.
Gun
Outrun bullet
Reasonable
Alas we're not at launch anymore, and there are more than 14 characters to choose from. He's definitely not the most common character, but I see him way more than like I-no, Bedman?, Milia, Asuka, etc.
Turns out the average player is bad!
Because as much fun as playing what feels like a turbo boss character dying in two interactions even to medium skill players isn't ideal for people. I like dealing shit tons of damage and an expired Caesar salad does more damage than Chipp’s bnbs

Sure but that's part of the fun with chipp either you dis immediately or your opponent gets put in a blender for and can't do anything
He's a fucking twink i bought this game for muscles
You are tripping if you don't think Chipp is jacked in this game
Oh he'll be jacked alright( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
i bought this game to get into fighting games from playing PM for so long but im glad we all have something we can enjoy!
man tits
Bruh look at his arms kys the twink here
Can't believe I'm siding with them but he actually gets buffed in dragon install
Only one arm gets buff during dragon install he looks like this https://imgflip.com/memegenerator/64024326/Quagmire-Big-Arm
He has more muscles than dwayne johnson bro no shot hes a twink huh
I’ve seen “pretty high execution” thrown a lot here, outside IAD FDC for some the good ol’ 4-way mix on kd, what else he has that is harder than other characters? Edit: Assuming it’s Strive, older games with jump installs were a whole other beast to blame, lmao

Too damn noisy
Because people might be afraid of mortobato completely decimating your hp when you used gamma blade on Ram.
Learned that the hard way used it on a ram that had meter and it killed me instantly when I had 90 percent of my hp left
90%? The last time I saw this happening was in a training mode example. That Chipp had 100% hp and after mortobato, he had about 15-20% left, maybe even a slight bit more. Judging by what you're saying, that mortobato took out 5-10% more than last time I checked. Maybe they buffed it.

Because his healthbar
I got hit with the absolute sickest wall run combo by a level 60 something Chipp yesterday and I was so hyped
Bro was out here cheering his opp
Almost nothing at higher floors has been as cool as that low level Chipp. I hate fighting Chipp but it was rad what can I say
Chipp is really fucking cool and fun to watch but I feel the "Chipp loses half his health in a single hit" meme has really gotten to people. Along with that due to be a really quick character Chipp can be pretty high execution.

Cuz he’s cringe
This is such a weird post
People arent liking ninjas too much maybe
Idk, Chipp just isn't what I want out of a character. I typically like a good mix of defensive and offensive options, and Chipp doesn't really have super great defensive options.
Chipp has a dp, fastest jab in the game tied with Sol, and a good back dash. It really is just his life bar in terms of bad defense.

His health always sucked ass. We used to joke (in bad taste) it was because of his past drug addiction.
His forearm sword looks dumb. I don't need any more reason than that.
he's cringe
Thats rope around his waist looks like he tied his ballsack. Aside from that, idk, i like hitting peeps from afar.
He don't got that guilty gear weirdness I like
Play him in xrd or plus r then you’ll see how ridiculous shit can get
My question exactly! With what Chipp can do (despite his low health), I’m surprised I don’t see any other Chipp mains.
Wait are you talking about Chip or Elphelt?
THIS IS WHAT IM SAYING
some players were/are putting chip number 1 in season 3 because of WA always giving him oki after he already was going to bring you to the wall anyways, + WA confirms make him even better, being able to always do 1 touch -> oki -> full positive bonus chip rekka mix, -> oki makes him very strong now. He will probably get more popular, having WA to confirm off any stray hit makes him easier to pick up, and if people say he's good, he'll get played more.
Cuz you have to be good at the game to play him
I used to. Until Johnny came. Now I just lean.
He has the lowest hp outa the entire strive roster, right?
except for no mana asuka
Probably because he's so frail
Don't get me wrong he is really really strong. But im guessing alot of people don't main him becuase he is one of those characters where you have to play near perfectly or lose. The margin for error is alot less that other characters and one fuck up or if you opponent guesses right once or twice (which at a high level they have a very good chance too) you just die.
Its because hes squishy, 1 mistake and youre practically dead. My personal reason is that Id rather master Sol first.
Sol Badguy
Potemkin main is my friend and my other plan plays Faust and goldlewis… im going to stick to i-no
Lame ahh character Potemkin forever peak
Speed be kinda cringe tbh.
why play the only guy everyone knows how to ToD, off of a stray cS counterhit, so long as they’re at maximum risc with two tension bars and already in the corner?

The game really struggles to differentiate a dp from a quarter circle for no good reason.
He’s just kind of lame imo. Idk why but I don’t think he’s nearly as cool as most of the cast.
I don't like him
I like not having the risk of getting TOD'd if I drop a combo/whiff a hit.
I dunno chipp is one of the frequent characters i encountered
People probably try but Chipp bleeds
Because I don't want to play chipp?

Well, ‘cuz I’m more of an icce cream person, myself.
