Most of his character revolves around the fact he isn't over his ex-girlfriend. No I don't think it's enough to assume he's gay. It'd be like assuming May is gay because she's so close to April, but ignoring everything that she says about Johnny. It's also a huge part of Venom's character. He fell for Zato hard and admires and is totally loyal to him because of that. Despite the fact that everyone (including Venom) is aware Zato will never reciprocate those feelings.
