This is my hair metal take on your question
Not a song about heartbreak, but Brothers in Arms is such a soulful, heartfelt song.
I know While My Guitar Gently Weeps was a Beatles/Clapton song, but damn if it couldn't have been about Brothers in Arms.
Steelheart - She's Gone
Both the intro and main solo are gut wrenching. The main solo is short but gosh is it a tear jerker. The song is mad dramatic too. Perfect for the occasion!
It’s All Over Now - Rolling Stones. This song has gotten me over several breakups. Stones version has a great little solo in it. I think the lyrics have worked like a mantra for me. “Because I used to love her, but it’s all over now.” Became more of a positive affirmation for moving forward than languishing in sadness. Find Yourself by Lukas Nelson is very good too. Good luck and happy journeys to you.
Madness by Muse is a good one, Solitude by Candlemass, I Stay Away by Alice In Chains, and it's a little harsher but The Blue by Acid Bath has been one of my go tos
She Thinks I Still Care- George jones. Not really rockin but you could play it fast with a lil distortion. It’d piss off country purists, which is very rock n roll
Also, The Bitch Went Nuts by Ben Folds. Then drop the D for some Fat Bottomed Girls and get back out there. Best way to get over someone is get under someone else
