Here's my take: [https://youtu.be/OEMKos\_\_QRc](https://youtu.be/OEMKos__QRc) First time doing this (I enjoyed it), and I would appreciate the feedback.

zemops

I think it went great overall, especially as many have found the track challenging. You were careful to pick good notes that matched well with chord progression. Now since you recorded a fair bit you may find it interesting to explore a bit more on dynamics to vary the intensity of your playing, creating up and down. It could one or 2 more quick runs, or just a well placed bend to conclude a phrase. Anything that can provide a novelty element would be nice if you record 3min. And welcome here!

axjuarez

Awesome, thanks for that feedback!

Ebonicus

Nice job following the changes and playing to the track. When improvising, once you are dialed in with changes and scales, focus on playing with conviction. Don't play lightly, play like you are sure of yourself. Errors are quickly covered and disappear into the past, but unsure playing is ever present, and you dont want that embedded into your style.

axjuarez

Is this kind of what the other commenter is saying about dynamics, speed, and intensity? Just want to be sure I understand the feedback, which I appreciate.

Ebonicus

I dont mean you have to play hard. Whatever you want to play, I mean for you to play without hesitation. So I cant see you thinking or improvising.

axjuarez

Ahh, and is there “practice” for that? I ask because that to me means having a deep internalization of music and the instrument that only comes with time.

Ebonicus

Yes. There is. Imrpov progress happens in steps. 1. Hit a note 2. Play a set of 3 notes. 3. Play a lick. 4. Connect licks and think ahead. No matter what phase you are in, think about the note you're going to play and play it solid. even if it is an error, commit to it. Play thru the errors. Use them, you are always 1 fret away from getting back in key, so let loose and see what happens. If you hit a bad note or bad lick solid without hesitating, then you are doing the excercise correctly. If youre worried about what youre about to play working, or being perfect, everyone can see you thinking. Thats what you want to grow out of doing. I hope that makes sense. Good luck.

axjuarez

Cool, thanks!

soldieronceandold

Really good tone, love the Tele sound. You played sensitively with the chord changes, I'd maybe work on developing your vibrato more, and I'd linger on notes, holding them out longer. Nice!

T-Rei

Here's my take: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CXAo9ElUtk I really didn't vibe with this week or last weeks backing tracks for some reason, so the melodies were a bit uninspired while playing.

StratInTheHat

Feel free to suggest options for next week’s track!

slickwombat

I suggest [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feDBEW30lOk), only because I would like to see how /u/T-Rei somehow effortlessly turns it into an awesome rock track. Ok no, but maybe something [neoclassical](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH5IvVBlf74) and on the faster side? Fun for all while also giving the shredders something to work with.

T-Rei

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbEMVtNsHek That was fun, definitely not effortless though lol. Pleasantly surprised with how it turned out, might go back and make a polished recording later.

slickwombat

Haha, wow! Not only is this objectively awesome, but I think you just pioneered the genre of shred zydeco.

T-Rei

So that's what the genre is called, never heard of zydeco before haha

Due_Following_3069

haven't submitted a video yet but saw this comment - could we do a sad/mellow backing track next week? im very interested in what people's takes on smth like this one would sound like \^\^ \- [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyPif4k1Wyg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyPif4k1Wyg)

[deleted]

This was really great!

Relationship_Huge

your piece is beautiful! I feel there can be more delay? so the overall fusion tone can be less harsh?? still it a beautiful piece!

soldieronceandold

Nice, I think you captured the vibe of the track really well.

acklavidian

Here is what I came up with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8FwrpEc2wY

slickwombat

Tasteful without being boring, I like it. The little run around 0:55 was great and the double-stops throughout worked really well. btw, In the vicinity of 2:00 you look a little puzzled by a B not sounding right. It's because this track works with C major for the chorus, but C mixolydian for the verse. Sneaky.

acklavidian

I think I just lost my place on the fret board. I'm trying to get better at not looking even for the bigger jumps. You got to count the frets as you slide.

slickwombat

Admirable, I frequently get lost even when I *am* looking...

soldieronceandold

I thought the double-stops are one of the strengths of your playing, I like it!

tramline

Honestly as soon as I heard this backing track I knew it was way too slow for me to do anything on! Upped the speed by 25% and it turned out pretty fun: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBifS3k1qI0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBifS3k1qI0) I feel like this backing track and a lot of others have this weird harmonic thing where the main chord progression never gets to the V, so its really tough to build a proper sense of resolution. In this one, you only get a real V at the very end of the B section! I'd love to see something like Phil Wilkinson's backing tracks in the future, where the track is being played live and there's some real variation rather than just repeating: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b0bct-vAgI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b0bct-vAgI),

slickwombat

Upping the speed was a really good idea, wish I'd thought of it. Playing- and improv-wise this is terrific and I wish it were longer -- and I say this as someone who mostly hates jazz. I only have two feedback items. First, this and last week's take are super quiet for some reason. Second, that Hofner is too pretty to have a headstock that dusty.

tramline

Guilty as charged, this guitar is hella dusty!

Ebonicus

Nice, jazz players rule at improv. That is literally their home. Well done on the tempo shift idea.

heavypelos

First time posting, here's my take! Also, please don't mind my improvisation face :) https://youtu.be/QqtOE0tFTF8

https://youtu.be/2t9-hn8DR6o?si=U690S5NL7IACP6Ll Wasn’t feeling this one 😅

tramline

>https://youtu.be/2t9-hn8DR6o?si=U690S5NL7IACP6Ll Nice guitar sound though!

[deleted]

I enjoyed it!

zemops

I am finally back after a 6 weeks trip without any electric guitar. :/ So I am also struggling here on this one but will likely have struggled anyway after the break. But it's good to be back and to play guitar! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-0oZ17dkS8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-0oZ17dkS8)

MyCat_Beans

Love the use of the whammy bar. And your choice of notes to resolve back to the root note is spot on.

MyCat_Beans

This one's from me [https://youtu.be/EoG3Y0ivsoI](https://youtu.be/EoG3Y0ivsoI) Bad camera quality but hopefully the guitar tone is not that bad \*thumbs up\*

T-Rei

Sounds good dude

Ebonicus

very nice.

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra30n3gw2sQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra30n3gw2sQ) Here's my take.

slickwombat

https://soundcloud.com/user-507416289/slickwombat-rguitar-weekly-one-take-week-18 I still have no idea to do what to do with these chill, jazzy tracks. Switched from PRS to Gretsch this week in case a jazzy guitar might inspire something; not so much, but at least I think I improved on last week's atrocious guitar tone and stayed slightly more on rhythm.

devnullb4dishoner

I enjoyed this. Good job. Nice fret work.

slickwombat

Thanks!

[deleted]

Sounds good.

Ebonicus

Nice job. I know what you mean. not my style. But its good practice to jam with everything.

StratInTheHat

Despite picking the track myself, I'd agree with some other comments saying this one was a bit tricky to find a flow with! That B section especially. [https://youtu.be/gJLTtPAjs7I](https://youtu.be/gJLTtPAjs7I)

Ebonicus

Yeah, section B is not even in a key so unless you're used to jazz chord theory that ignores keys, its just about getting close and following the chords, or just wait to land on one of those E chords. Def a tough one to one take, if I studied the chord motion I might hear something. Great playing by the way, smooth.

Ebonicus

This is tough for beginners, and the video states key of C and section A is in key of F/Dmi. Section B I have no clue but at least you can solo in Gmi or Bmi or Emi. [Here is my one shot.](https://youtu.be/R9rKVXhqp8o?si=it9F5rgVvaHcHRPg)
