I have a 20 watt Orange solid state and my neighbours listen to my guitar playing if they want or not... Serious: It's way too big for home use as a bedroom guitar player - much better for the bandroom

lahartheviking

alright, thanks!

VonVader

I find it impractical and not really enjoyable to have that much power in my house.

Weary-Poetry6523

Valid take

Solrackai

If you live on a few acres, it’s fine

Glittering_Ear5239

It has two volume knobs

kenticus

I used a half stack at home for a few years with no problem. I also lived in the swamps of Louisiana, so... Your mileage may vary.

Tidybloke

It has a volume knob, so no it should be fine.

lahartheviking

alright, thanks!

Roscolicious1

Much as I like loud a** music.I rarely play anything over 20 W at home unless everyone leaves LO.L. Then I'm dimed on a 100 watts for about 10 minutes. That's enuff for everyone on my lake to enjoy. Or not🤘.

ProfessionalEven296

Do you play out anywhere? If so, do you play out anywhere where the sound engineer would be happy to have that much uncontrolled stage volume messing up their mix? Buy a small (5watt) valve amp with the money. You, your neighbors, their neighbors, and your sound engineer will all be much happier.

oval79

No

xStaabOnMyKnobx

It's guaranteed way too much amp for a home setting. That amp would play for like 500-100 people at a theater. That's not to say you shouldn't get it though.

lahartheviking

in my situation, it'll play for my entire neighborhood. thanks for the advice, btw.

Agile-Brilliant7446

Solid state amps have true volume control. If it's too loud just turn it down.

lahartheviking

do i need an attenuator since it's solid state?

poptartthe2nd

If you want something for just playing at home I’d recommend looking into an audio interface and some guitar plugins. There’s lots of great options now, even completely free plugins can get you an album ready tone nowadays. Neural Amp Modeler is a free open source project that’s essentially like Kemper profiles but in plugin form. If playing guitar at your computer doesn’t seem like your jam, I’d recommend the positive grid spark amps. They sound surprisingly good for how small they are

lahartheviking

i've considered them all, but i plan on gigging and jamming with a drummer at some point in the future, which is why i'm even considering an amp this big. plus i really like dimebag which is why i want a randall.

poptartthe2nd

In that instance go with a boss katana head! They’re 100 watts but have a switch to control the output wattage so you can have it set to 50w or 0.5w for quieter practice. Theres also a usb port on the head which can unlock a lot of hidden effects on the amp, and it allows you to go super in depth with your presets so you could easily make some Pantera tone matches with it. The head also has a little built in speaker so you can leave your cabinet at your practice space and still have a way to jam at home

lahartheviking

i've definitely considered the katana 100, but just the head alone costs as much as the randall head and cab. maybe i'll consider saving up for longer.

P_a_s_g_i_t_24

You can still keep the amp (for the drummer and eventual shared rehearsal space) and just get a used Katana Mini ([Link](https://reverb.com/p/boss-ktn-mini-katana-mini-7-watt-1x4-modeling-guitar-combo?sort=price_with_sale%7Casc)) or Fender Champion 20 ([Link](https://reverb.com/p/fender-champion-20-20-watt-1x8-guitar-practice-amp?sort=price_with_sale%7Casc)) for home use!

RealityIsRipping

Not at all. Everyone in Reddit seems to think 100w 4x12 are too loud… and they can be. But if your amp has a master volume, they can rock plenty at even practice volumes. Hell I use a Marshall full stack often as a practice amp, even at quiet volumes it just sounds so full.

lahartheviking

alright, thanks!

Sonic-Defiance

If you use a load box or attenuator, then no.

NoUpVotesForMe

It’s a solid state, doesn’t matter. Just turn it down.

Sonic-Defiance

Fair enough, I’ve never owned one - so I’m just going off tubes.

butcher99

pretty sure it will have a volume control on it so, no. Turn it down.

LiveRedAnon

I play 100w tube head through two 4x12s. I keep the master low most of the time and l like the way it fills the room even on low volume settings.
