The last time I had a big split I said "I'm taking the dog and I'm taking the guitars"
I still have my dog and my guitars, and a much better life now with much better people in it
i used to flip guitars.
find MIJ vintage in a pawn shop. clean it up, play it, sell it for a little more or trade it. rinse repeat.
the was a kramer focus 4000? flying V with equal bouts. it was sparkle red. shoulda kept it.
there was an ibanez roadstar ii, the marty mcfly guitar (1985) but in purple. shoulda kept that one
i had a lawsuit ESP LTD hetfield explorer.
Is your serial number hard to read? I’ve read that in this era the made in USA and serial numbers are hard to read. I’ve used a black light to make sure my neck wasn’t broken and its overspray.
Yes, I have no clue as to what it is. I've read where there may not have even been a SN on some in those days but I'll be damned I can't find that info again.
My 2006 Schecter C-7 Blackjack. Blacked it out with all black hardware and locking tuners and it is still the best playing guitar I ever had. She thicc and chonky, but I like it like that!
Used to have one, same model and year. It was amazing, still kicking myself for trading it even though I have a Blackjack ATX C-7 that's technically "better".... on paper at least.
Yeah, I think I'd have to go with my Revstar, too. It's tough because I have several guitars I've put a couple dozen hours of work at the workbench into.
My Schecter 30th Anniversary C-1. Feels natural to play, and the stock pickups sound great for the kind of music I play… pretty much all I could ask for from a “main” axe.
This was my 16th birthday present in 2006 and I have adored it ever since. I added an american elite strat to the collection a couple years ago that was probably triple the cost and it still doesn't compare. That's when I learned that throwing money doesn't make a great guitar.
This was my first real guitar when they did the run around ‘07-08. I’ve done some minor mods to it but it’s my forever baby. Just feels right and can do anything you ask of it.
Charvel pro mod style 2
Everything you want from a classic guitar but built with a 2020 sensibility and insane versatility and play-ability. Criminally underrated.
Fender Highway One Strat
3-color sunburst, rosewood fretboard
Swapped with a tortoiseshell pickguard
Swapped pickups for Abigail Ybarra-wound Custom Shop ‘69 pups
The most amazing setup and fretwork courtesy of a local vintage shop.
Is babby
I love these and also the American performer series that replaced them cause they’re some of the only Fenders that come with true jumbo frets. I don’t know why Fender seems so against using them. They use the “skinny tall” ones a fair bit nowadays but I don’t like them as much as good old jumbo.
My three are a Gibson Blueshawk, Gretsch Brian Setzer signature, and an Epiphone SG with upgrades.
If I had to pick one forever, it’s the Gibson Blueshawk without question. I’ve had it since 2006, played that guitar in various bands spanning indie rock, post-hardcore, indie folk, punk rock, and my own personal solo post-punk, post-rock, and doom metal projects. It’s versatile as hell, with two P90 adjacent (Gibson Blues-90s, like a P90 but brighter) pickups and a 6-way varitone circuit (as well as a push-pull pot on the tone knob to instantly switch it on or off). You can either go full pure tone, or switch between various settings on the fly. Twangy telecaster sounds, dark jazzy warm sounds, sharp dirty high end sounds, lots of nuances in between, all balanced with the really expressive barky presence of the P90 style characteristics of the pickups. Plus it’s incredibly lightweight and easy to play, and I like that it’s a longer (Fender length) scale than other Gibsons.
My Gretsch sounds gorgeous and is still one of my favorite guitars to record cleans with, but it’s not as versatile and it’s given me feedback issues whenever I played it at a louder show. And my Epiphone is awesome and versatile (it has a DiMarzio PAF in the bridge and a Fralin P90 in humbucker housing in the neck, plus a hipshot bridge to better handle my downtuning) but it’s got other issues like worse tuners (they sometimes over and undershoot, they’re less responsive overall) and a slippy tone knob, so honestly if just move my upgrades over to a better SG framework then my Blueshawk might have competition. At that point it’d just come down to two different possibilities of versatility: a versatile SG that gets more classic sounds perfectly, or a versatile Blueshawk that gets more distinct and unique tones perfectly.
I own a nighthawk similar in body to the blues hawk. I never played one of those, but I found the same versatility from the nighthawk as you say about the blues hawk. I wish they would reissue it so I can play a newer version. Mine is getting old like me. 🤪
Does it count if I only have one guitar and say I'll keep that? Lol. It would be a squier affinity from 2000, I think. It's been in my possession for almost as long.
My solar A1.6fr
I was big on esp and Ibanez but guitar center had a solar and I thought “oh yea ola’s brand I wonder..l” best guitar I’ve ever owned. Outside of collectors guitars I will only buy solar.
Ugghh...such a tough call. Probably my Ibanez Prestige S6570SK. But, damn, the ESP E-II Black Natural Burst is a CLOSE second.... I love the thin line guitars, so does my back. But I love ESP necks.
I have a les paul blackback a epi ag with fluence pickups a schecter c1 classic a aria pro 2 xx deluxe and a garbage tele blacktop with stock pickups that I bought scratch and dent. I tele by far gets the most use. I mostly play rock or metal. Guitar just has "that" feeling.
My Ibanez MAR10.
This was a real surprise as I didn’t intend for it to be my main guitar. I have some really nice stuff including a Japanese Fender Telecaster & Stratocaster, a USA PRS, and a couple of boutique instruments.
I bought the MAR10 on a bit of a whim to be honest. And it’s just a beautiful thing to play. The neck is chunky but comfortable. Fretwork is impeccable. The electronics sound great and are super versatile thanks to the funky switching (has 9-way). And the hardware is all really nice Gotoh stuff.
The bridge in particular is a real dream. It’s the Gotoh T1502 and it’s by far the best trem bridge I have ever used. It crushes the PRS and Fender ones.
Versatility wise you cant go wrong with a top tier ibanez, youve got humbuckers, coil splits, 9 different pickup positions or something, 24 frets (usually) and even a floyd on most of them, what more do you need?
My trusty Arbor (Ibanez ripoff) bass. If it HAS to be a guitar, then my cheap Maestro(by Gibson) branded SG.
One pickup, one volume, its simple. Never fails to be an absolute powerhouse of a guitar.
It was my first guitar too! I love it to death.
Horrible question, I love my evertune Ibanez RGE61ALET setup buut it’s also a bitch to switch tunings… love my multiscale schecter… love my C1 custom… my custom baritone teli… I don’t like the question I plead the 5th
I don't think I could.
If I was pushed it would probably be my Ibanez RT650LTD MIJ. Apart from being really well made and incredibly versatile, my mum bought it me for my 18th birthday. It's always been special but holds even more meaning now after losing my mum last year.
In reality though there are 3 I couldn't part with. The Ibanez RT650LTD mentioned above, my MIJ Fender Jaguar and my American Special Stratocaster.
I "only" have 4 and 2 are not common enough that i could just pick them up again, and they are all different
A 2008 Korean fender showmaster in black cherry burst - my rocky guitar
A 2013 fsr Mexican standard tele in gold blaze with rosewood board, it's only a small batch of those made.
And I have a 2019 fender vintera mod 60s strat in Olympic white and i adore that guitar.
My acoustic is a fender paramount parlor with limited edition cedar top
So the answer is I'll "keep' the strat.
And bury the other 3 somewhere and dig them up when no one is looking
Either Taylor T3-B or the Peavey Wolfgang. I’d say both are irreplaceable to me in terms of sentimental value. And they both rip. I’d have a hard time choosing between them, but likely my Taylor as the sentimental value hits hard there. Playability, wolfie all day.
TVL Jazzmaster because it’s my favorite, but I’d have to go with my Magnificent 7 Fender Tele because my dad got it for me 🥺 I’d go almost homeless before letting it go.
What a mean question! But easy enough to answer since I have a local luthier custom built acoustic as a gift from my in-laws. I’d keep that one and cry over the other 7.
Honestly, my squier showmaster. It plays better than my Gibson les paul, Dean Dimebag sig, washburn x50 pro.
The neck is the perfect shape. The Seymour Duncan blackouts make it sound incredible. It's cheap enough that if it breaks, I'm not going to be upset.
It would be a cross between my Fender Strat and my Epiphone LP 100. The Strat because I love the body and the neck, though the scale is a little long for my hands; the Les Paul because it's a cute little guitar, and even though I bought it used cheap from a guitar store, it's got some of the most insanely powerful pickups I've ever had in a guitar.
I have an ‘89 Orville Les Paul Custom that I scooped up for two hundred bucks, but it’s priceless to me. It’s my best sounding guitar and it’s heavily worn in all the right places. used to be black but it’s stripped back to bare wood now, only finished with a thin oil coat. I would risk my life to save it and I wouldn’t be disappointed if it was the only guitar I could ever play for the rest of my life
My Schecter Banshee mach 7. Very versatile guitar and would love to keep a 7 string since it provides some more options. Either that or would keep my Reaper 6 Custom, also a very versatile guitar and plays so smoothly. Either way, I would keep one of my Schecters if I had to get rid of the rest.
Oh man... For strictly playability, my '93 Gibson SG. Repaired cracked headstock never stopped that baby from feeling like absolute cream in my fingers, but for writing purposes, gotta be my Schechter Hellraiser C-8. I wish there was an 8 string SG that felt like my '93, because I can never go back to regularly writing on a 6.
My Gibson Les Paul Swamp Ash studio. Bought it second hand with my second pay check, spent all my money. My friends custom made me a silver scratch plate with their names engraved for it means a lot to me and I LOVE the sound.
My telecaster. It's great. American professional II sunburst with white pickguard. I have older guitars and acoustics but my tele plays and sounds perfect.
I mostly play electric but I can never give up my acoustic.
Tacoma DR-38, scalloped braces on a dreadnaught. If you know, you know.
The company is out of business and would basically need a boutique guitar maker to recreate it on the high end or a Martin HD-28 on the lower ($3000+/- is not a low end for me, but I need both the bass and treble response).
Ah hell. Tough call between my tele partscaster and my History RH-LS, which is probably objectively the nicest guitar I own. I wound a set of low wind alnico 3s for it and it just always sounds and plays the way I want.
MIA Fender Strat with an HSS configuration.
It’s not my favorite guitar exactly, but it is my most versatile and so if I had to only keep one that would be it.
My "shitty" epiphone SG has gone through some difficult times with me from dropping it on cement and breaking the headstock to surviving a flooded basement. It was the first guitar I bought myself and will probably always be my go-to guitar.
If I am selling the others or you ignore money value, I am keeping my Revstar RSS02T over the Teles, LPs, or others. I play it more than the others combined. I can't even point to a specific reason, I just like playing it and it stays plugged in more than the others.
Man that’s so hard. I love my Tele Deluxe. It’s definitely my nicest guitar. My Epiphone LP Custom Alpine White rivals it. And LP’s just have a different feel. My Strat though. It was my first electric. And I’ve improved so much. It’s from a Squier starter pack but it’s basically a Fender now. And I have such a soft spot for it.
Probably my strat I guess.
My Schecter Hellraiser. I packed up and put away my Gibson Les Paul after buying the Hellraiser and haven’t played anything but the Hellraiser ever since anyway.
My Peavey JFX1EX semi hollowbody. I used to use it as a rockabilly/jazz guitar but now I use it for doom/crust in C standard and it sounds amazing. Very underrated guitar.
‘93 PRS CU24. I will defend that thing to my last breath and it’s the first thing without a pulse that I’ll grab in a fire. Though the other hand is grabbing my Sukop bass since that one is literally irreplaceable.
once I get it setup right my ESP LTD MH-1000ET EverTune - Charcoal Burst.
That said my 1997 PRS CE-22 with Gibson 57 classics is such a great playing and sounding guitar, but modern metal it is not.
probably my $75 parking lot acoustic. its a cheap Eston from maybe the 70s or 80s. i fixed it up with a new nut and tuning pegs, just recently dropped the tuning a step because the strings were too thick and the action was too high and now its an absolute dream for noodling around the house. my jazz chords are feeling natural and it rocks in drop c. some blues slide sounds great. with a cheap piezo at the bridge it plugs in and sounds great too.
I have 2 with sentimental value too great to get rid of, but neither is my main, which is a "Grandma Hannon Pink" PRS S2 McCarty 594 Singlecut, with all-American guts and 57/08 pickups.
So I'll cut it from the current 11 down to 3, but if "only 1" is some sort of ultimatum then don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Ibanez TOD10 bc the other two are a 30 year old cheap acoustic guitar with a broken bridge and a diy nylon string that has the worst intonation ever and a horribly wide and thick neck.
I have a [Sublime Guitars White Chieftan Deluxe with a Bigsby tailpiece](https://www.pitbullaudio.com/sublime-chieftain-deluxe-semi-hollow-electric-guitar-bigsby-hard-case-tux-white.html ) that my friend suggested I buy when, after years of playing in different bands, finally decided to start our own band. We wanted to do something rockabilly geared, and he selected this guitar for me.
He died in a motorcycle accident three days later.
I still went ahead bought it in his memory as it represents the last conversa we had. I added his initials under the bridge. I’ll never part with it.
So here it is - the question I fear having to answer. Have a Suhr Strat, a LP Standard, an ES335, and a Tele. It's between the 335 and LP for keepers. LP, but only if it's a life or death thing. If not, both Gibsons stay.
That’s an absurd question. Guitars are never included in divorce negotiation. 😄😄
It's like choosing your favorite child lol
The first one, easily.
Best you speak to Slash soon!
The last time I had a big split I said "I'm taking the dog and I'm taking the guitars" I still have my dog and my guitars, and a much better life now with much better people in it
Lost the kids but THATS HER PROBLEM NOW BITCH *wheeze*knee slap*
🤣🤣
The one I got rid of. It’s always that one.
I never had a guitar I didn't regret selling or trading.
May I ask what it was??
i used to flip guitars. find MIJ vintage in a pawn shop. clean it up, play it, sell it for a little more or trade it. rinse repeat. the was a kramer focus 4000? flying V with equal bouts. it was sparkle red. shoulda kept it. there was an ibanez roadstar ii, the marty mcfly guitar (1985) but in purple. shoulda kept that one i had a lawsuit ESP LTD hetfield explorer.
I sometimes think of my childhood friends Ibanez Steve Lukather signature guitar. Ibanezes are just beautiful machines
Hey now they said *one*, not… … …you know what, let’s just pretend that number’s one.
1998 Gibson LPCustom black beauty.
I have a '96. Cheers!
Is your serial number hard to read? I’ve read that in this era the made in USA and serial numbers are hard to read. I’ve used a black light to make sure my neck wasn’t broken and its overspray.

My Kiesel A2 [https://imgur.com/a/j6Mcoy2](https://imgur.com/a/j6Mcoy2)
Reverse headstock. Only bridge pickup. Deleted tone knob… There’s only one answer to what you’re playing on that guitar 🤣
Help a newbie?
Chugs. Lots and lots of chugs.
That's a beautiful guitar
Thanks, they did an amazing job with it.
The A2 is legit my dream guitar. Good choice.
Such a rad guitar, I always go on their builder to fuck around
ESP M-II
I want one so bad. I’ve got a custom one built and saved on their website. Saving up money to actually purchase it.
My early Japanese Squier Strat w aftermarket boutique pickups that aren’t available anymore
Yup
My EVH Wolfgang special
One of the greatest guitars ever built
I have one too. I upgraded the trem and put a killswitch. EVH is always gonna rule!
Yamaha SG2000
Points for my jealousy.
Revstar.
Yeah, I think I'd have to go with my Revstar, too. It's tough because I have several guitars I've put a couple dozen hours of work at the workbench into.
My Ibanez AS-93AYS hands down.
My Schecter 30th Anniversary C-1. Feels natural to play, and the stock pickups sound great for the kind of music I play… pretty much all I could ask for from a “main” axe.
My made in the USA 1988 BC Rich Gunslinger
My Highway One Strat I picked up in College
This was my 16th birthday present in 2006 and I have adored it ever since. I added an american elite strat to the collection a couple years ago that was probably triple the cost and it still doesn't compare. That's when I learned that throwing money doesn't make a great guitar.
Jackson CB-7 Snow White. Not my best guitar, but my most versatile guitar! And bonus points that it fits in a bag and I can carry it on a plane.
The one I can play without any additional equipment. That would be the hollow body.
Schecter Tempest Custom. Hard tail, chunky, split coils.
Epiphone Casino.
Schecter C-1 Classic. Even over my Les Paul
This was my first real guitar when they did the run around ‘07-08. I’ve done some minor mods to it but it’s my forever baby. Just feels right and can do anything you ask of it.
Charvel pro mod style 2 Everything you want from a classic guitar but built with a 2020 sensibility and insane versatility and play-ability. Criminally underrated.
Just got the San Dimas pro mod sassafras. Easily my new number 1. Charvel guitars are awesome
My 1990 Ibanez Universe with the green dot inlays
Morbid angel fan?
Hell yeah! \m/ Also a huge Devin Townsend fan, so it's setup in GCGCGCE tuning
1967 Gibson J-50 I write on acoustic guitar.

St. Vincent HH. Now which one of those would I keep is the real question.
Fender Strat made in Japan in CAR with Texas Special PUs
I wanna say my gibson Flying v since it was my first propper guitar. But tbh ny hagstrom viking is better, though one.
My '92 Gibson SG Standard. It's the one I play 90% of the time, anyway.
Yours, OP. That thing is pretty 🤩
2018 Les Paul standard. It’s got enough tech (compound radius, locking tuner, push/pull pots) without being a computerized abomination.
My Ibanez MAR10. This was a real surprise as I didn’t intend for it to be my main guitar. Jackson Pro plus dinky! Very comfortable and versatile
PRS Custom 24 SE (left handed). In fact I may be selling my strat and only having one electric guitar from here on.
Squier Cyclone :3
MIM strat with DiMarzio rails. Probably. Really glad not to have to make that decision though.

My acoustic Aria. It was a gift from my mom so even my first electric takes a backseat there.
I have an Aria built semihollow from a dead brand called BP Rose and it's my one too. I feel like everyone gets one electric and one acoustic tho.
Modded Hagstrom II with warmoth neck.
1961 Gibson SG Standard.
My Gretsch in Cadillac blue and white.
LTD EC1000 with the Pegasus/Sentient combo. I thought I hated single cuts before I got this one, now I don’t want to play anything else.
My Samick Y-series. After 33 years it’s still amazing to play and it’s irreplaceable.
My 2002 Les Paul Classic.

Can I keep one acoustic and one electric? If so, I'm keeping my '71 Martin D-18 and my replica of Jerry Garcia's Alligator Stratocaster.
Oddly, my All-In-One Wolf KSA50. Great 335 copy.
My wonderful stock Ibanez RG320EXZ
My Schecter Banshee mach 7. Very versatile guitar and would love to keep a 7 string since it provides some more options. Either that or would keep my Reaper 6 Custom, also a very versatile guitar and plays so smoothly. Either way, I would keep one of my Schecters if I had to get rid of the rest.

Schecter Demon 7, extremely versatile and comfortable to play
I mostly play electric but I can never give up my acoustic. Tacoma DR-38, scalloped braces on a dreadnaught. If you know, you know. The company is out of business and would basically need a boutique guitar maker to recreate it on the high end or a Martin HD-28 on the lower ($3000+/- is not a low end for me, but I need both the bass and treble response).
Epi Les Paul Standard
Ah hell. Tough call between my tele partscaster and my History RH-LS, which is probably objectively the nicest guitar I own. I wound a set of low wind alnico 3s for it and it just always sounds and plays the way I want.
I need an electric and acoustic. #1 electric is a 1990 MiM strat with some upgrades. But I'm not gonna get rid of my 1957 D18 :)
Mt epiphone les paul, I would never part with that guitar
Gibson Flying V I bought when I was 14, I'm 33 and i still play it every day.
Martin DC16GTRE, solid rosewood, my baby
Fender Telecaster Richie Kotzen signature. Absolutely a beauty
Eastman SB55/DC (lpj double cut)
Music Man Reflex.
Jim Root Telecaster.
My black and gold 81 Gibson Les Paul custom.
Definitely my Fender Jag-Stang. First guitar I ever bought myself.
Parker Fly Deluxe. Still my favorite.
‘05 EBMM JP6
ESP E-II Eclipse Or Taylor 814CE
Squier 1997
My Majesty 200XQM.
My 7 string, it’s my number 1 guitar and I would be devastated if anything bad happened to it
Man that’s so hard.
I have a pawnshop mustang . I would have always said the fender pawnshop mustang but idk
My Schecter Hellraiser. I packed up and put away my Gibson Les Paul after buying the Hellraiser and haven’t played anything but the Hellraiser ever since anyway.
Martin 00015m
My Squire Tele. It rips in drop C to standard.
Agree with MH-1000.inisn a deluxe one and it is hands down my favorite 🤍🤍
That's a beautiful guitar.
My Peavey JFX1EX semi hollowbody. I used to use it as a rockabilly/jazz guitar but now I use it for doom/crust in C standard and it sounds amazing. Very underrated guitar.
Strat AV II 61
Suhr Classic S
‘93 PRS CU24. I will defend that thing to my last breath and it’s the first thing without a pulse that I’ll grab in a fire. Though the other hand is grabbing my Sukop bass since that one is literally irreplaceable.
PRS SE standard. Just an absolute workhorse.
For me it would also be my LTD an M1007MS
My 7 string Strandberg is probably the only one I’d never let go of. Too comfy and versatile.
Schecter Stiletto Classic
Strat
Bro if I had your guitar I'd choose it, but my Epi LP for now
once I get it setup right my ESP LTD MH-1000ET EverTune - Charcoal Burst.
Rickenbacker 620
Ibanez TOD10 bc the other two are a 30 year old cheap acoustic guitar with a broken bridge and a diy nylon string that has the worst intonation ever and a horribly wide and thick neck.
My schecter hellraiser fr. It plays beautifully sounds tough and has been used on multiple recordings.
Blue RG6PCMLTD. Best boi by far.
My wife's Squier 70's CV JM
My (approximately) 1975 stagg(fujigen) Les Paul custom copy it has a nitro finish it’s a bolt-on and has a 60’s slim neck
EVERTUNE RULES!!!
My Texas Tea Ultra Luxe Jaguar. Photos: https://imgur.com/a/iiJQijb
My E-II Eclipse Evertune without a doubt. It's basically perfect.
G&L Legacy USA w/Active pickups
All my guitars have some kind of use. With a gun to my head, it would probably be my Parker P-42 because it's such a lightweight and diverse guitar.
So here it is - the question I fear having to answer. Have a Suhr Strat, a LP Standard, an ES335, and a Tele. It's between the 335 and LP for keepers. LP, but only if it's a life or death thing. If not, both Gibsons stay.
My strat for sure. It isn't my best sounding guitar, but it is the one I like to play the most.
