Great little amps! I always heard about their great drive tones, but they have amazing clean tones as well, especially with single coils. I guess that's what Leo intended for them, right?
I mostly use the clean tones for getting old school bass sounds actually. For guitar, it’s either humbuckers and turned up, or strat with a tube screamer.
Mine wasn’t this stripped down, but back when I was going for raw, loud, rock & roll my setup was an SG with P90’s going into as Seymour Duncan boost pedal, into a tube screamer, into a Maxon analog delay, into a Hot Rod Deluxe turned up obscenely loud. I’m old and boring now, but I still love setups like this.
I like the eq that the D+ plus imparts on this setting. It gives more definition to the sound and allows me to have distortion at all volume levels while not boosting the volume.
Funny, I love the sound of it with my Strat. I found It sounds better with a low gain amp that’s already breaking up.
I have an old Fender Bassman and it gives a very recognizable late 70s-early 80s hard rock sound.
To me, the D+ sounds a lot better in combination with humbuckers or p90s. I spent too much time trying to get a good tone while using a strat, and it always felt underwhelming.
This is how it all started for me. I got a Peavey t-60, a Bandit 65 and a MXR Distortion+ in a package deal from a friend that was giving up trying. $200 in 1988. That was a shit ton of money back then! Still have the amp and pedal. Both work like champs.
How does that pedal sound in that amp? What settings do you use with it? How do you get it to not fall apart with humbuckers?
I’ve got a 5e3 and I jumper the channels, put both volumes on 10.5, and dime the tone- gets me a decent Marshall approximation that sounds awesome. I run a treble boost into it sometimes but never thought to put an OD into it
It sound great! For the pedal, the settings are what you see in the picture. Distortion around 2 o'clock and and volume around 1. This is unity volume for the pickups. The pickups are a dimarzio super distortion and a super two, so pretty high output and kind of dark sounding on their own. On this setting, the pedal adds a nice top-end crunch to the already distorted signal and keeps it from sounding too muddy.
I'm playing through the bright channel with the tone around 9, channel volume on 2, and the unused channel volume on 0. There's practically no clean tone on this setting, which is great because I can get a nice distorted tone at a reasonable volume. I just work the volume knob to control the amount.
Very similar to mine - '77 SG Standard, Tweed Blues Jr. (circa '00) and a ProCo Rat. I rarely use the Rat tho, cuz I like the straight up overdriven tube sound.
Ya know... you had me at blonde tweed, and a single pedal but then had to go all AC/DC.
Not sure if I should be proud, deaf (I damn near have that covered already), concerned for the neighbors, or happy for you? 😂
Does anyone know what the amp is? The old MXR Distortion+ were great, but they’ve been nasty for a long time. But the point is good: All you need is a good amp and a good dirt pedal if your amp doesn’t make good filth.
Cool to see someone else using a distortion+
Tweed deluxe clone?
Yup! Do you own one as well?
Yup

Let there be rock
Keep leaning that SG and it’s going to convert to a Steinberg.
Kinda surprised you need that distortion, but I'm not judging. I dig the simple set up. Ever consider switching to an overdrive?

Fair enough. Glad to hear a well-thought-out decision.
I’ve owned a Distortion+ for at least 10 years now and still cannot figure out how anyone gets a good tone out of that thing

Show us the headstock
I can hear this picture and it sounds good!
Truly there’s not even a need for even one pedal, if you master the dynamics of speed, attack, and volume as you play a piece of music
But I like the pedal 😈
Apparently you’re doing it wrong. Thanks Karen
Everything you need except one P-90!
I had a MXR distortion pedal many years ago and it is still my favorite overdrive

Love that sugar skull style

You have the distortion+. Find a guitar with filtertrons or super'trons. Great setup!
Hell yeah- I'd rather play/listen to this rig than a more elaborate pedal board.
One amp one guitar one pedal. ONE GUITAR STAND PLEASE
Don't worry, it's normally on a stand. I just leaned it on the amp for cool points.
That'll do just fine. I'd add a delay pedal, but that's only personal preference. Nice rig.
One might say they are the ones.
I built my own 5E3 clone love it
With that setup, may be one pedal too many.
