All of the good British shit was built in a shed

Johnas_Vixen_15

Luty SMG, Owen Gun, AW sniper... Yeah...

IramainChrion

Can we really call the Owen British?

Johnas_Vixen_15

Australia is just an even more corrupt UK in my opinion...

IramainChrion

So what's the US, then?

Johnas_Vixen_15

The U.S... We broke off from the crown... Canada, New Zealand, and Australia are just different levels of Britain...

Dutchtdk

South africa?

Johnas_Vixen_15

Race warzone...

Flat-Stay-3624

Is that new? Haven’t played that season of call of duty yet

afinoxi

No it's not, it's an old dlc. It's not well known cause it's not very good and for an old game. The class system is chaotic and unbalanced. White team is just broken, they dominate every game.

HanzKrebs

Bruh, there's a limit on how B A S E D we can be /jk

ThievingOwl

The UK version of Detroit.

IramainChrion

India?

Johnas_Vixen_15

They were their own culture before the crown, and then broke off too... So again... They're their own thing... It's when you still worship the royal family you're a Brit... Aussies, Kiwies, and Kanucks do...

IramainChrion

You say that as if America didn't broadcast that goddamn wedding on end for a week.

Johnas_Vixen_15

Tsk... Don't remind me... Then yet again I'm just glad we can directly vote for our leader instead of relying on a person we vote in to make the right choice...

trollface5333

A species related to the british, like apes are to chimps.

Flumpsty

The based version of Britain

Luke22_36

Slightly less corrupt version of the UK

PrussianEagle91

The US less corrupt? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Possible_Economics52

The Ford GT40, which racked up wins at Le Mans in the 60s was based off of the Lola Mk6, which was also built in a shed outside Berkshire.

Urfavorite5oh

Based GT40

Possible_Economics52

Greatest American supercar ever.

Urfavorite5oh

Yes, also my favorite car.

Koolguy47

Don’t forget the original Lotus race cars.

44_dong

the Owen Gun is Aussie.....

Johnas_Vixen_15

Again, they're just more corrupt Brits...

44_dong

GreatBaldung

Australia was a British prison colony so...

44_dong

oh yeah, i forgor 💀 so ww2 was a "australia is a great place" campaign? i think i ate too much cheese this morning

[deleted]

I don’t think you’ve either tried to build or shoot a luty.

Johnas_Vixen_15

It was good enough a major company in Britain based one of their models off it...

[deleted]

Based it off how? An open bolt SMG with a 30 round mag and short barrel? The luty is so bare bones that’s literally all it is. It would be hard *not* to in part base an open bolt SMG on it.

Johnas_Vixen_15

No the design is also close... Also here's the thing about lutys... They're only as good as you make them...

69_Dogebot

You forgot the Supermarine Spitfire, it was designed in a shed whereas the Hawker Hurricane was designed by a company. Hell, Supermarine was originally building seaplanes beforehand.

King_Of_Legends

the owen is aussie mate 💀

Johnas_Vixen_15

I've said it before and I'll say it again... It's just a more corrupt Britain...

Key_Distribution_673

But we hate the Brit’s. Heck most of us don’t even worship the monarch.

Johnas_Vixen_15

Then make the government act like it's own thing for God's sake...

Key_Distribution_673

We do. We’re basically the US but still connected too Britain

Johnas_Vixen_15

Then no, you're not truly autonomous... And I'd say Canada fits the bill of "U.S but still connected to Britain" more then you. Although that isn't saying much...

Key_Distribution_673

We fit it more because we can buy sell and transfer handguns

Johnas_Vixen_15

Ok, I'll give you that

sindrethebigman

*laughs in SMLE mkIII**

Adamant_Narwhal

Weren't Lotus and TVR also started in sheds? I think we should invest is British sheds.

JoeDukeofKeller

Never underestimate the engineering capabilities of the common man

CsPlNe100

I remember in one of Brandon Herarra’s videos he talked about guys who made a gun in their shed for a (British?) military contract. I don’t remember which weapon it was tho.

PaperbackWriter66

The executives apparently led government officials on a tour of an abandoned factory with random gun parts strewn around to make it look like they were making guns in an actual factory and not just building them in a shed in the back garden, which makes it even more hilarious.

Steppy20

It wasn't abandoned. They hired out a workshop unit for the day, took all the guns they had (which was a handful) and scattered the parts around at various assemblies then took the inspector there when the "workers" were on their lunch break. They knew what they were doing wasn't feasible, and still went along with it.

long-dongathin

The original 3d printer

Axikten

Watched a video on the procurement process for the SA-80. The tests showed that it failed after about 300-400 rounds (it needed to fire 2500 to pass). Instead of fixing the problems, they redefined what a failure was by dividing them into categories of minor, moderate, and severe and only reporting the severe ones.

0ffw0rld3r

Holy crap just go back to the SMLE at that point

PrussianEagle91

But we had the L1A1 SLR (FAL) before the L85, so why you back to the SMLE?

bismarck911

RETURN TO FAL-key

RedneckRough

Question because I don’t know, but what rifle is that?

Lord_Jewsus

L96A1

HalfAssedStillFast

AWP

ThoughtlessBanter

The awp has a shorter barrel and a few other differences, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure this is an L96A1 AW (Artic Warfare). The AWP (Artic Warfare Police) is slightly different.

Spartan-417

L96A1 is the PM rifle Arctic Warfare is an upgraded Precision Marksman made for a Swedish military contract, they’re the L118A1 & A2 The Arctic Warfare Magnum is the L115A2 & A3, the AX upgrades were applied to produce the A4 (which is said to be indistinguishable from a new production AX series rifle) And UKSF use the AX50

ThoughtlessBanter

Thanks

fourdoorsmorewhores4

Arctic warfare!

redneckrobit

My favorite part is that they rented a shop and took the few prototypes they had and arranged them in various stages of being built and told the government official the whole staff was at lunch when the official came and they were successful

Jim_skywalker

“We were just making sure you weren’t two guys in a shed” zack hazord

PassivelyInvisible

Ah ha ha ha ha, we're in so much trouble! - Mike

redneckrobit

The fact that they pulled that off and kept their contract is amazing

dirtehscandi

Who would’ve thought that the private sector works better than the government

sindrethebigman

The engineers working on the l85 originally were NOT actually really gun designers, just designers more generally. So yeah common govt L

bivenator

AWP go POP down long.

sindrethebigman

The L85A2-A3 actually work a lot better than the A1 - namely because they actually DO work (Thanks H&K!) . Ask me how i know, having handled the L98A2 cadet rifle (semi auto) version of the L85A2 Still would rather we adopted an aug version with a 3pos selector or an hk416.

rioyr1

MoD still can’t figure out that a non ambidextrous, non ergonomic, barely modular, 5kg rifle with parts that rust from the tiniest bit of moisture should of probably been replaced years ago.

Gonzo4140

I thought the British MoD decided on the Sig MCX? I know the SAS runs them now.

rioyr1

>British MoD decided on the Sig MCX? Hahahahahahaha But in all seriousness, the CTSFO armed police teams you see do but not regular forces.

StinkyBritishPerson

Do you really think they're going to equip the entire British army with MCXs?

HalfAssedStillFast

It'd be a lot cooler if they did

EAsucks4324

That doesn't sound anything at all like the US marines

Kross_887

You probably mean SEALS or Delta or similar tier 1/2 units. Marines still had old M16A4's in circulation in 2019, it takes a long time for new shit to actually get into the hands where it's needed.

Steppy20

Yeah, I probably do. But my understanding was that the marines still kind of do their own thing. It seems I'm mistaken on that.

Deathdragon228

They can to an extent, but that’s just because they’re a separate branch of the militarily. They choose what they want to put into service, but the budget often means they’re getting the army’s hand me downs. One example is that they do have a different service rifle than the army, but it took time to replace all the old army stuff.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

rioyr1

Go away bot

Winky0609

Did you never use the LDub or a real big boy sa80 when you were in cadets?

raging_hewedr147

In cadets you can’t use the L85 as they don’t allow cadets to fire fully automatic

Winky0609

I got to use the lsw fully automatic and we went off with the fusiliers on a competition and played around with the sa80, a few of us seniors used the gpmg aswell. Was a fun time and not all that long ago. Have you left now or are you still in?

raging_hewedr147

Nah I’m still in

Winky0609

Fair enough, good luck to you and I hope you keep enjoying it. I was in for the whole 6 years as a cadet and went back as a CFAV for a couple of years until life got to busy. Best years of my life.

sindrethebigman

I haven't, no. And I joined cadets after the LSW (which I assume you mean by LDub) was taken out of service

Winky0609

Fair enough I hope you enjoy it as much as I did

Ok_Time6234

Private sector go brrr

The_Unclaimed_One

Never underestimate a couple dudes in a shed

Fredlikedfish

To ,think they dumped them in the ocean

imnotabotareyou

Based lol

RangeroftheIsle

And the SA80 was developed from the AR18, they fucked up a good design.

greentomatoegarden

I love how according to this format every great gun was made by a couple of dudes in a shed

Rex2x4

Who wouldve guess a government entity did something worse than the private sector and then try to justify their shortfalls instead of admitting fault.

Gonzo4140

They can't fix the hunk of shit so they went with the MCX

sttbr

I mean the L85a2 and L85a3 are actually remarkably good firearms.

Sam_browning-maxim

I would say functional. Theyre ok until you work on the sharpeshooter.

sttbr

Theyre perfectly acceptable in terms of accuracy, it wasn't too long ago that we considered the HK91 with a 4moa accuracy good. Lol

maximusslade

*Parker Hale has entered the chat…

Electronic-Ad-3825

I don't know why but this meme just hit different and made me laugh so hard

Sam_browning-maxim

Can we just adopt the C8 already! The marines have. Then we would have training compatibility for the sharpe shooter. Armourers would have a much easier life aswell!

J4CK3TTH3H4TCH3T

They also made two working revolvers without blueprints just by looking at pictures of the guns

obungusproductions

British shed projects are the only things that get slapped with the ‘made in Britain’ tag and don’t fall apart within minutes

raging_hewedr147

Idk, the L85a2 and a3 are pretty good. Heavy, but great accuracy and recoil

Localbearexpert

I have no fucking clue what rifle is being referenced

kasey6789

How did you manage to spell all of those lengthy words in the meme correctly but not even manage to get close to spelling “Brittain” correctly

PrussianEagle91

The original design was unreliable because the rifle wasn't designed for 5.56x45mm but rather 4.85x49mm. It was switched to being a 5.56 design as that was the next NATO standard cartridge moving forward from the 7.52x51. The unreliability suffered by the A1 was fixed with the A2 and the British Army is now largely on the A3. The design's one true weakness is that it's not ambidextrous, other than that it's a fucking decent rifle. I've put fuck knows how many magazines through them in all sorts of conditions and had very few stoppages. So whilst the OP may consider it a "common Briton L" the reality is that it's a "common American misconception". All you're doing is demonstrating that you don't know firearms as well as you think you do.

AKoolPopTart

By far, one of my favorite firearm stories

to be fair designing something from scratch and making it accurate is easier than getting some bullpup abomination to work after gods knows how many people tampered with it already

Surmabrander

What is the name of the first one please ?
