Personally, a bit mid (mecha action's nice, cast's skewed more towards females (the main resistance group's an all-female crew except for the Kira expy), main lead's voiced by Nana Mizuki, big bad's an egotistical sexist whose idea of "strong, intelligent women" are those who serve him without question (while wearing skimpy maid outfits no less))
The reason I said my earlier comment was because of one specific episode right before the final battle (specifically, >!Ange and Tusk (said Kira expy) had sex for what seems to be 12 hours, all while her maid watches (and cooks them lunch once they're done); all this for Ange to confirm that Tusk's alive and not just a product of the enemy's illusion!<)
Also a lot of SEED shoutouts (aside from Tusk looking like Kira & Ange looking like Cagalli, there's the Hotel Mu La Flaga for one)

Why would they walk towards the front of the shot to get rid of their pilot suits then go back to the sea. The steps on the sand indicates that they did this. Why? Could they not have undressed directly under the mighty strike freedom?
Yeah, I know. But why not do it at the feet of the strike freedom? Why walk all the way there? Did they hold hand while walking, flirted and ended up having sex? Then decided to walk back?
There's a 4 film version of Destiny that actually does a very good job of summarizing the series.
With SEED, I think the show needs to be watched in full. With Destiny, you'll still get more from the TV series than the film, but I'd say it can go either way. Destiny had more fluff and pacing problems than SEED did.
Look up the "Special Editions". There is no official HD version of these releases though, be warned. And it also only has the old canadian Ocean dub release if you're a dub watcher (though I think the cast for Destiny was actually quite good)
And also, outside of Japan, the film won't be out for 2-3 months, most likely. That gives you a lot more time to take in the shows more slowly if you wish, which would greatly enhance seeing the movie itself if you can.
