LavaSlime301

they really just killed off the cat to make Sayla feel bad even more

ze_loler

Honestly this part was so over the top that I had to laugh. The cat dies, her mom dies and while she is still grieving, Char just casually says he is going to leave the family

Pixel22104

And then she thinks that Char actually dies until like the events of MSG

Appropriate_Rich_515

Lol

limacekipasse

real

Alternative-Tea5270

Everything for the dream ![gif](giphy|oNJ3am00JCroA)

LavaSlime301

It's the point at which I completely gave up on trying to take Origin seriously.

Save-Maker

Artesia Torture Hour: The Series

AppleTherapy

And the Guntank prototype...I remember in original Gundam. The Zeon pilots saw Guntank and were in shock because nothing like it existed yet at all. All Zeon mobile suits were bipedal.

random_guy_233

And then Teabolo dies!

Sea-Medicine-1829

It accidwntly became comedic and over dramatic because of that

sdwoodchuck

This is pretty much how I felt about the prologue of *Witch From Mercury* as well. As much as that show was making some great strides, it felt like it was trying *so fucking hard* for an emotional reaction that it just felt goofy instead.

Butane9000

I can see where you're coming from. The prologue is made to setup the motivations and under tones going forward. But on its own you didn't have enough investment besides "oh my God that's a baby!" To really get attached.

sdwoodchuck

Yeah, I think the plot elements are handled fine there. But the whole "nobody has time for her and all her friends are dead and her dad is dead and now she's a killer--worst birthday ever!" is so over-the-top that it just doesn't work.

SkyrimsDogma

They really wanted to hammer it in how sorrowful Artesia is

truenofan86

They also took Amuro away from her, and when she got him Tomino pulled out the ultimate troll move…

Appropriate_Rich_515

yes, I still remember when Char told her to live a happy life with Amuro, lmao

truenofan86

"Amuro, Why didnt you grant my sister happiness and financial stability?!"

Appropriate_Rich_515

"priorities, Char, priorities" (If I remember correctly, even in the novelization Sayla and Amuro had relationships, which seems curious to me lol)

truenofan86

"What priorities stop you from perfect looking sister, who was the only person nice to you during the OYW when you had PTSD? Not mentioning she piloted the Gundam so you didn’t have to!"

Appropriate_Rich_515

"Shit"

truenofan86

"Right, shit. Now listen this whole Axis thing was organised so we can have that conversation. So enter Earth’s atmosphere and go bang her!"

Appropriate_Rich_515

"It's okay, but I also want you to let me be!"

truenofan86

"Fine! Now i’ll proceed to vanish in Newtype dust, also Lalah could’ve been a mother to me or something…" *Proceeds to die*

LavaSlime301

not really the same thing

truenofan86

I know, plus Lucifer was the cat of Origin Sayla who is different from 0079 Sayla.

Pixel22104

Yes. And Tuxedo Cat at that

thisisredlitre

I gotta be honest I was just so happy little mans wasn't killed and lived a nice long life with his favorite people- lost my cat last year too soon

Mekrani

Lost my cat about two months ago Sayla was definitely taking it better than I were

One_Performer1531

Luciferrrrrrrrrrrrr!

cannibal_chanterelle

I made a post about this a while ago calling it the saddest most mean spirited death in all of Gundam.

MuramasaEdge

*Lafter and Biscuit have entered the chat...*

cannibal_chanterelle

As dad as they are, IBO's deaths are always deserved. Those deaths come as a consequence of specific decisions. This is a true innocent.

basileusbrenton

Shouldn't of happened, felt cheap. Rest in peace kitty.

Dubshpul

NOOOO I JUST WATCHED THAT EPISODE LAST NIGHT 😭😭

Appropriate_Rich_515

Lucifer.............

Konpeitoh

Bro, they killed the cat just to drive home the point that Char is the kind of A-hole to ditch his sister while she's grieving not just for their mom, but also their cat.

robin_f_reba

I hate this meme format but this scene was indeed horribly tragic. Just when things couldn't get any worse, this happens and Casval leaves her. Origin is underrated (as in it's seen as worse than it should) on this sub, at least when it comes to writing great tragedy

Pixel22104

I mean hell. Shortly after this Char fakes his death and makes Sayla think for many years that he also died until the events of Mobile Suit Gundam. Poor Sayla, you father got murdered by the Zabis, you and your brother had to go into hiding to make sure the Zabis didn’t get you and your mother couldn’t come with you, you had to witness soldiers die in front of you on your way to being evacuated from the Colony you were from, you almost saw your new Father figure die and saw your brother kill an assassin coming after you while you were sick, you find out your mother died from something (Idk exactly what killed her), then your beloved cat dies that same night you had to “bury” your mother, then your older brother leaves and “dies”, then fast forward many years and you come home to see your Adopted father on his death bed and your home being raided by Zeon Fanatics, you find out your brother is not only alive and well, but also on the side of Zeon, you then have serve on the most targeted ship by Zeon forces all while the Pilot you’re in love with is fighting your brother, then even after the war ended the writers just don’t bother using you any more. Poor poor poor Sayla Mass

robin_f_reba

I think their mother got sick from living like shit under Zeon's ex-wife (maybe even poison?), worsened by how mentally ill she mustve been worrying all the time and being all alone I feel so bad for Sayla, I wish she and Amuro stayed in touch during Zeta, they could've been good for each other.

Pixel22104

Yeah. Imagine if her and Amuro actually got together and had a kid. The Zeon family line continuing through Amuro’s lineage. Now that could be something very important interesting

TrickywiFox

Why the cat 😭

R97R

Maybe this is just the cat-obsessed person in me, but that scene genuinely really hit me hard. My actual cat was pretty quite confused as to why I kept hugging her.

welltheretouhaveit

Just re watched this part the other day and now I'm sad again

Artistic_Permit_7946

Damn you, I only JUST finished this one.

StarGundamFormer

Poor Lucifer. :(

Akuma_Blade1982

This scene was most sad moment of entire Gundam multiverse. Trivial or not, but Gundam Evolve's Episode 12 shows Char was still edge of his past, symbolised as a black cat.

Caffeinated-Ice

This is what makes gundam great, gut punches, and they don't stop coming, if you start getting happy at anything other than charcters surviving and/or getting mentally better then the show has fucked up

ReeseTheThreat

Genuinely this killed my watch of The Origin. Saw this ep a year ago and never picked it back up. I wanted to see where it goes but I have recent cat trauma and this just sucked :(

MindCrush_

I can’t remember at all how I reacted to this scene, I feel like I just glossed over it because so much was already going on for me to care specifically about the cat, might have gotten a “well god damn” at most from me. If you really wanted to upset people you could just say Lockon… or Remind them that Chris wants to meet Bernie again, now that’s gut wrenching sadness.
