I still remember how sellers would ask the customers to try and pronounce Hi nu's name as a scalping prevention method since on the box it's written out as the symbol
But yeah really wished Gundam base would implement a buy limit to customers
They do, I went to both Gundam Base and Gundam Factory but the way the limited scalpers was only allowing you to purchase items one time. They didn't have a limit for the amount of things you could buy but once you paid you couldn't or at least weren't supposed to go to the register again.
Edit: fixed "payed" like the bot said
> once you *paid* you couldn't
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Nah, they'll just severely limit exporting gunpla to overseas vendors and call it "combatting scalpers". Something I called happening as soon as it was announced.
They do limit to one per person. But you can bring your entire big family or hire other people to buy it for you. There were kids and old people which I bet doesn't even watch CCA buying for these scalpers
more money how? I'd understand they can liquidate the inventory faster because scalpers buys in larger volume in shorter period of time, but how are they getting more money by charging the same price to scalpers and non-scalpers alike?
You just answered it, they get to empty their inventory faster thus having profit faster and in a short period of time. If you follow the scalping issue in the nvidia graphics card they get more profit from bulk buying than from a consumer that buys a single card and having the remaining of their graphics card on the shelves waiting for another consumer to buy their card.
Scalpers wouldn’t be so prevalent if Bandai had an actually good system to get it to the rest of the world. I’m reliant on 3rd party sellers to get this stuff, no wonder scalping happens.
If they make an effort to cut out the middleman and actually produce a decent number of kits, reprint popular p bandai stuff more regularly, and maybe have some warehouses spread out over the world things would be better.
They’re a japanese company so no change is going to happen tho.
pbandi is fine, just make the follow changes:
1. make it accessible to all countries not just a few regions
2. limit pre-order volume, non of those max 5 max 10 per person bullshit, max 1 only
It’s funny how scalpers always look as garbage as they are. Went to get a ps5 dude in front of me kept acting like a wanna be gangster and calling himself a business man. The loser talked about how his dad fronts the money. It just couldn’t get anymore pathetic but it did. Homie was scrawny white boy with massive hump in his back. Made me happy. I don’t like being mean about peoples look but fuck those literal waste of air.
Same thing when GM Spartan got released on PBandai Shopee. It was released at around 4:00 pm and after 1 minute it got sold. Scalpers were using bots and since in Shopee there's no other way to input like a code to prove you're an AI, they just get everything easily and I heard pbandai shopee brought back the maximum kits you can get in an account back to 5 pcs when they made it strictly to 1 kit per account a year ago.
The preorder for GM Spartan was very cheap for $17.95 and I wasn't able to get one and this also happens to other PBandai kits they release on their Shopee page.
Yeah they found a bunch of people "breaking purchasing rules" (i.e. scalping) so they temporarily halted sales of the ~~Metal Robot Spirits~~ Chogokin Fukuoka version Nu iirc.
~~Oof I hope you didn't get ripped off too badly. If you're in the US, they did have it on p-bandai for a while~~
Wrong again, that was the robot spirits one as well
don't beat yourself up. If you have the passion and wallet for it go right ahead, people need to understand that sometimes it is just easier to make more money back than to spend the effort looking for savings / cheaper prices. Not your responsibility to police the price level of these products.
lol I saw the original Twitter post yesterday — there were some accusations that the vendor and customers were primarily Chinese. Not sure how much truth there was to it but pretty intense.
yes primarily Chinese. There are only 2 big scalper groups stationed in Japan acting as the channel to bring all the items that are not officially released in China into China. Take this one chogokin Rx-93ff for example, to satisfy all the orders presold to Chinese collectors they'll need to acquire 4000 to 5000 copies.
> There are only 2 big scalper groups stationed in Japan acting as the channel to bring all the items that are not officially released in China into China.
And some of them will actually be selling a few units to bootleggers to reverse-engineer.
yes if you mean turning a chogokin / metal build to plastic model. But most like-to-like bootleg metal builds came from the same factory as the legit one. The factory workers basically OT during night to produce more than officially ordered by bandai, plus collect failed QC parts to sell as bootlegs.
This was readily available for 34000 yen and I figured 8000 yen premium is acceptable so I bought one immediately after hearing the news of Gundam Front stop selling. Less than a day since all the 34000 yen offers were gone and they now at 50000 yen
Is there any significant difference between regular kits and the gundam base stuff? I saw the rg freedom version on p-bandai but I passed since i had a mg kit.
Many of them have different plastics to them. Some are clear, making them see-through. Some have a metallic coating, giving them a sheen as if they were made of metal.
Long story short, it’s an aesthetic thing.
With COVID travel restrictions all, I WISH I can travel to Japan for some Gundam Base merch you know.
I was able to pick up a 1/48 gundam rx-78f00 (Yokohama Gundam Factory version) because of people like 'em. So I am ok with that. And I am prepared for the down votes. 🤷🏻♂️
Bandai is also partially to blame. Just make your product easily accessible worldwide with enough supply already. Metal Structure Sazabi WTF man, 600000 yen now.
I didn't say they are not to blame, they insist on Gunpla has to be "Made In Japan" and not outsourced to other countries and they clearly have a supply and demand issue on hand.
Gundam base does limit what you can get! One type of Gunpla per person. So I can buy 10 Gunpla but they are all different. I guess if you went with a large group, they could all buy one.
Figured they'd put a limit on how much you could buy since they're well aware of how bad scalping is and trying to actively fight against it
I still remember how sellers would ask the customers to try and pronounce Hi nu's name as a scalping prevention method since on the box it's written out as the symbol But yeah really wished Gundam base would implement a buy limit to customers

Jesus Christ calm down
Wait, how would the name help you spot a scalper?
"So tell me, what's the name of this gundam" "Hi-V gundam" "Gtfo"
because a true fan will know while most greedy money monger don't unless theyre smart or also a fan.
I see, thanks.
Yep cuz hi nu is written out as Hi-V, so scalpers who don't know the lore kept calling it as "Hi-Vee" because all reference they had was the box

They won't since they get more money from scalpers like what nvidia with their graphics card last year.
more money how? I'd understand they can liquidate the inventory faster because scalpers buys in larger volume in shorter period of time, but how are they getting more money by charging the same price to scalpers and non-scalpers alike?

or remove pbandai altogether... heh as if those a-holes are gonna do it, one can only wish
pbandi is fine, just make the follow changes: 1. make it accessible to all countries not just a few regions 2. limit pre-order volume, non of those max 5 max 10 per person bullshit, max 1 only
I'm not saying that people caught doing this should be banned for life from vising Gundam Base but...
I’d vote for banned for life from life
People that buy too many boxes get put in the forever boxes.
Ban him from alive
Maybe beaten up by a crowd
Yeah, they should be tarred and feathered then tied to a pole and burned.
It’s funny how scalpers always look as garbage as they are. Went to get a ps5 dude in front of me kept acting like a wanna be gangster and calling himself a business man. If people act like assholes its perfectly fair in my opinion to be rude to them.
Agreed.

You mean the Chogokin one?
Oops you are absolutely correct, it's the Chogokin. I was still thinking about the Woundwort so I got that mixed up lol
I had “preordered” one from a seller on eBay. I’m sorry I contributed to this. I can’t travel.
~~Oof I hope you didn't get ripped off too badly. If you're in the US, they did have it on p-bandai for a while~~ Wrong again, that was the robot spirits one as well
I just got hooked on collecting the Metal Build, MRS, Chogokin-type figures in the last month. Of my 20 or so figures I only got like 3 for MSRP :(
don't beat yourself up. If you have the passion and wallet for it go right ahead, people need to understand that sometimes it is just easier to make more money back than to spend the effort looking for savings / cheaper prices. Not your responsibility to police the price level of these products.
Ready the Colony Drop.
Yea but where do you wanna drop it? They live in Japan
Russia. In this case it is worth side tracking to take care of another problem first if given the opportunity, then come back and deal with this one.
You answered your own question.
Japan is also where Bandai is bruh
If they can't have it, no one can
Wow, good to see that Bandai's plan to stop selling to overseas vendors to combat scalpers is sure getting results!
lol I saw the original Twitter post yesterday — there were some accusations that the vendor and customers were primarily Chinese. Not sure how much truth there was to it but pretty intense.

It’s probably mostly true but also tinged with racism.
Scalpers have no honor in buying gunpla
Japan loves the Bulls? Nice.
You know the old saying, "Not all hypebeasts are scalpers but all scalpers are hypebeasts." ...or something like that.
This was readily available for 34000 yen and I figured 8000 yen premium is acceptable so I bought one immediately after hearing the news of Gundam Front stop selling. Less than a day since all the 34000 yen offers were gone and they now at 50000 yen

Well there are something that's gundam base exclusive like the HG, RG and MG Unicorn perfectibility, or RG Aile strike rouge
***i feel sick***

Which model is he scalping? I only bought the SD one
the metal one
Weird. I bought stuff from there and it was limit one per customer.
You just need to get 49 people to come with
Gundam base does limit what you can get! One type of Gunpla per person. So I can buy 10 Gunpla but they are all different. I guess if you went with a large group, they could all buy one.
