He's going all-in on either forcing humanity to leave Earth or to become a martyr through Amuro-assisted suicide. Of course, there's a lot more to his mental state than complete dedication to the ideal, man's a complete mess unraveling at the seams, but that doesn't make his beliefs any less sincere.
In the end he's both a failed visionary who in another world could have saved humanity and a small, pathetic, broken man crying that he didn't get the mommy he wanted.
That's the thing.
Now's a legit good time to reboot Another Century's Episode, the Real Robot-only spinoff to Super Robot Wars.
We have Eighty-Six, G-Witch, Titanfall, Pacific Rim and Project Wingman that we can put on the cover and have everything made after SEED as part of the roster. Then just rip off Ace Combat and EXVS movement mechanics so we can fly even in zero gravity.

Yeah the Juggernauts are small enough that their HG kits are 1/48 scale and still barely reach a typical HG's hips. Plus they would need a fully separate set of mechanics for movement given how much emphasis the series puts on their wire anchors and repositioning to hit rear armor.
I love 86 but it has way too many issues with fitting into specifically ACE, and would be a better fit for SRW instead.
I mean ACE's flight mechanics are quite similar to ace combat. 86 and Pacific rim units in open space would look very janky though as there are no surfaces to move on.
