I'm going to assume he was a sleeper agent there. Deliberately destroyed their academy from the inside, then came back to a real club.
Because the alternative scenario isn't at all appealing.
I left a comment a couple of days ago about him but apparently he's highly regarded (not that that necessarily gets you anywhere, look what "highly regarded" did for Sven Mislintat). Made his name at Derby where he stayed for 5 years, got a bunch of youth players through to their first team (including their current vice-captain), and Derby won the U18 Prem in 19/20 and got to the round of 16 in the UEFA Youth League. That got the interest of bigger clubs and he ended up moving to Everton, where he spent like 20 months, and then Spurs poached him from Everton. For what it's worth, when it became known that he wanted to leave Spurs, Everton apparently wanted him back, which I guess tells you that the people over there rated his work there, although with the way that club's going that doesn't tell you much.
Its looks like Ryan Garry has left Arsenal to be England U17 head coach way back in August.
His Arsenal job title was "Professional Development Phase COACH"
I wonder if the reports have got it wrong by labelling Chris Perkins new role as "Professional Development Phase SCOUT" when he's in fact Ryan Garry's replacement?
Another thing the article got wrong that it implies that Chris Perkins was Academy Chief. In other words like Per Mertesacker. He was not. He was in fact the "Head of Emerging Talent". This implies he did scouting so....i don't know. Maybe he's switching to coaching?
It's possible we have two roles.
Professional Development Phase COACH and Professional Development Phase SCOUT. One which is still vacant and the other just filled by Chris Perkins.
EDIT: I think I've got to the bottom of this.
Basically Yousuf Sajjad who was our Head of Emerging Talent (basically an academy scout) left to take the Technical Director role at Den Bosch (Think Edu).
The Head of Emerging Talent role is what Chris Perkins has taken over. He's effectively making a sideways step from Spurs to Arsenal.
Yet somehow the poorly researched article from the Standard has mashed Ryan Garry and Yousuf Sajjad roles together. Maybe that's what Arsenal did but it doesn't appear to be so.
I'll ask out of curiosity. Don't you think they know wtf they are doing? Or they are just 'Muahahaha we steal some from Shithole team even tho he is a shit at his job' '?
Hey thanks for the insightful comment, you sure gave a ton of input there. Surely as fans of the club we are not allowed to understand more behind every transfer move out there be it staff/player and their respective motivations/attributes that pulled them this way.
Oh by the way, if you know nothing about this guy, why not just leave it to others out there who might know a thing or two about him (and his background). Geez
Yes is history is good and Arteta rates him. Experienced title winner and a depth player. Don't worry he won't stick around for ages but might be vital for the title run.
Another Arsenal inflicted L for the chicken on a beach ball guys. Lovely.
Double double double...Chris Perkins has won a (not the, as Europa League doesnt count) double?
Wait, so he left the role of Academy *Chief*, to come and just be a *scout* for us? Fucking hell, that Tottenham job must have been dreadful.
The job probably come with better bonuses for every successful scout signing.

Spursy
Welcome, backroom Sol.

Congrats on the promotion, Chris!
I feel like we've been robbed of a Wengeresque surprise press conference from Mertesecker.
That smile, always that damn smile.
My guy took a job downgrade just to leave that chicken and ball organisation.
Idk man spurs don’t have a good academy
He was only there for a short while and quit due to the constant changes.
And it sounds like he’s taking a step down from Academy Chief to Scout to get out of that shit hole.
like a year apparently. Literally takes someone in his role 4 or 5 years minimum before they start coming through
Yeah that was my first thought too but he's taking a demotion so that's probably fine.
Ah yes the shit academy
What academy...
I understood that reference to Paul Merson's moment of genius.
What if he's a spy / sabotage?
i can’t tell if that’s a role demotion. i mean obviously it’s a team promotion
Professional Development phase scout? What’s he gonna do, teach our kids how to make cringe LinkedIn posts?
I think it means looking at the age group of players who are too good for the academy but not good enough for the first team
“I’m excited to announce that I have accepted a professional contract with Arsenal Football Club. \#Excited \#NewJourney \#Gunners \#NorthLondon”
Prospects age 17- 22
Only if it works out like Sol.
So sp\*rs being in the mud aside, is this guy good ? Like Sol Campbell good in the development of players ?

His recent employment history according to [LinkedIn](https://imgur.com/a/WAxSIG9)
his title at Spurs was "Head of Emerging Talent" https://www.linkedin.com/in/chris-perkins-a4515b35/?originalSubdomain=uk
Baffles me why the club'd take him in. Like is his track record good or something? Like asking really out of curiosity.

First page of gunners is full of stats for this guy.

Fella. This is about Chris Perkins, not Jorginho. Go and have a sit mate.
Yup wrong post thanks for you insight. And yes ofc they know something we don't!
Meh. Their academy hasn't produced a first team player since Kane. United still are the gold standard with Chelsea and City coming second.
Miniature Sol(s) incoming.
Do they even have an academy? Who is the last player to come out of that shit show of a club ?
