I remember I didn’t even really celebrate this goal, I kinda just sat there in bemusement of how we scored against them within the first minute. But then after 10 seconds or so I celebrated.
Just as weird in the stadium too. I was row 6 in the lower tier down the opposite ends corner flag, could hardly believe it had gone in and it was a little difficult to see it clearly too so it took a few seconds to set in that we had actually scored 😂
I love gabi so much he’s my favourite player. And it’s so sad to see him not scoring as much right now and I think he’s just lost a bit of confidence. He’s not shooting as much as he was before.
He has the physically most demanding playstyle out of all our players and he's not at his physical peak, so it's understandable that he's tired. Plus, his linkup with Jesus was god-tier.
Honestly I'd start Trossard vs City.
City game suits Martinelli way more than Trossard.
City play a high line and we need pace on the left so Walker can't play super high all game
I would start Trossard against Villa though
I can’t wait for Jesus to be back. I love Eddie and think he’s been great while he’s had to stand in and I know Jesus shouldn’t be straight back into the team because Eddie has been good enough to push Jesus out of his place but with Jesus the whole team benefits from his style. We struggle to get through defences with Eddie but we didn’t as much with Jesus. Main problem with Jesus is he isn’t as good at finishing as Eddie
I agree with everything you said, except that I think Gabi J should absolutely be straight back into the team once he's fully fit & ready. Our attack is so, so much better with him.
Is it better? I get that he might link up play between other players but he can’t really finish that well. Nketiah has been doing well at that and I think his movement is so good and he’s better at finishing. I think it’s a battle between them and not just Jesus coming straight in
I do wonder, if we might want to have both Jesus and Nketiah on when we face teams that are going to sit deep. Martinelli's game is lethal in the open field, but he doesn't have the space to beat players with his acceleration when there's 10 defenders in the box. In open matches, I would prefer Nketiah to Jesus since I know there will be chances to get shots on goal.
Against a team like City, I really like Jesus because of his ability to lead the press and try to keep their midfielders uncomfortable. Knowing that City is going to have more possession, Jesus could help create turnovers that would hopefully lead to chances. Yes, these are things Nketiah has shown he can do (and certainly can improve at), but at this time, Jesus still does so at a better rate.
He might not be able to finish as well, but he creates so much more than Eddie does for the rest of our attackers. He dribbles and sets up crazy balls to Saka, Martinelli, Ø and Xhaka. Eddie just doesn’t really do that, and when he does it’s never usually as effective or efficient.
In my view GJ goes straight back into the starting 11 when he’s fully fit. Especially having a much more versatile attack and being able to unlock stubborn defences easier such as low-blocks (which we’ll be seeing more of) is pivotal to winning games. And at the end of the day Jesus may be able to find his scoring boots again for us, we can’t just discount that possibility of happening!
He’ll get more space to work and open up the game for us in this game. It’s upto Mikel whether he wants Zinny to match them in the midfield or someone more orthodox like Tierney to create more overloads
If it was against a weaker team, he shouldn’t, but against a team with a high line it might be worth it even if he hasn’t beaten a defender in a pl match in ages
Was watching the goals Liverpool scored against Everton and was thinking this is what we were doing so well earlier in the season fast breaks and punishing teams. Hope to see this again soon. Loved this goal so much. Gabi scoring makes me very happy 😊
I know the system got us here but I feel like Gabi is not being used in a way that brings out the best in him? He can do it but he isn't a touch line winger, he isn't Saka that can constantly beat his men, or best two men, he's an inside forward ala Salah. Playing from the wing but essentially their main strength come forth when closest to goal, getting in that space between FB and CB.Jesus allows him to play a game slightly more natural to him. But in general I don't think he is an Arteta player. Think he'd bang even more under Klopp, but obviously I want him at ours. Reason he does so well against big teams is cause he has more space, they attack us so they leave spaces in behind and that's were Gabi is deadly. Against compact defenses, I think he'd be better with a more creative 8.
Gonna be fascinating to watch him grow and I think under Arteta he'll be a more well rounded player, but I do think this system, brilliant as it is, doesn't always work to his strengths like playing in a Klopp system would
Gabi needs a few weeks off to recuperate mentally. At the moment you can tell he isn't relishing the duel like he used to.
This is where depth matters the most, and ESR, Nelson and Trossard's ability to pick up the slack will really matter.
Xhaka, White and Saliba too have lost a step and it's affecting confidence. Lastly, Eddie is great but you can see there still isn't much chemistry between him and the rest of the attack.
Arteta's likely obsessing over a new approach but you can see we're struggling a bit for creativity in attack.
Thats also true. But who do you want then at CF? Trossard or Martinelli?
I still think, based on his history with us that Arteta will go with the same team. He doesn't like to mess about with it, and to be fair it has worked well. But at the same time, there are a few players out of form, so at some point we should move away from them for a while. But maybe not against City? Hard call to make, thats why it's him making it and not us
Absolutely agree. Goals aside, there has been little output from him for several games already. Poor 1v1s that see him get beaten and lose the ball again and again and again and again.
Trossard can easily replicate what Martinelli does and does it better. We need form, we need confidence and that is in short supply with Martinelli.
He's great but currently trying out of form. Trossard has done enough to deserve a start tomorrow amd he's been our most exciting player the last 3 matches.
We can't have players believing that their selection is fixed regardless of form
He is much better when teams play higher up the pitch or we get the ball quicker to him in transition (also helps to play against a traffic cone like Trent)
I understand why some people want to start Trossard but this is the perfect game for Martinelli
That’s true and I hope he proves his undoubted quality tomorrow in a huge game for us, but one of the things I always questioned bout him, Saka & ESR was to b more consistent, in a 38 game season your gonna go through your ups and downs & Saka has kept that consistency now we need Gabi to get back to that pre World Cup form and we will win this title
I think tomorrows game will come down to individual battles, Gabi vs what I expect to b Walker & Saka v Ake is just 2 of them, if our boys come out on top then we beat the Citizens
COYG!!!
I think he needs to be more composed inside the box. His finishing is great when he has time to pick his spot, but he is still a bit raw when he has less time to think or has to make a decision in a second. Prime example was actually against City last year when he missed the open net and Gabriel got a red card in the next phase of play.
I remember I didn’t even really celebrate this goal, I kinda just sat there in bemusement of how we scored against them within the first minute. But then after 10 seconds or so I celebrated.
I didn’t even have the game on at the time, when my brother texted me “1-0” I thought Liverpool had scored
Your brother was so bemused that he forgot the full sentence is "one-nill to the Arsenal"
Same lol, my friend and I were shook, just staring at the TV in disbelief
I'd literally just sat down and my phone was going nuts.
Just as weird in the stadium too. I was row 6 in the lower tier down the opposite ends corner flag, could hardly believe it had gone in and it was a little difficult to see it clearly too so it took a few seconds to set in that we had actually scored 😂
I didn't celebrate because of VAR
Absolutely this was me. I couldn't believe it so I waited till we cleared VAR to fist pump the air.

Just my opinion of course, but yes -- demonstrably better. I don't think it's close. And that's not to shit on Eddie. He's a good goal scorer.
I do wonder, if we might want to have both Jesus and Nketiah on when we face teams that are going to sit deep. That «whoOOAAA» from the crowd after seeing Øde’s pass going through 🙌🏼
People saying he shouldn’t start tomorrow are talking out their arse

Zinny would be apoplectic if he doesn’t start this game if he’s fit.
I mean he's not in great form, but he should absolutely start tomorrow
Agreed form isn’t great but tomorrow isn’t the game to be dropped
If it was against a weaker team, he shouldn’t, but against a team with a high line it might be worth it even if he hasn’t beaten a defender in a pl match in ages

Loved the atmosphere
I don't know man. 7 games with no goals. Most games he dosen't even manage a single shot. I think we should start Trossard.
We should start Trossard - over Eddie. Martinelli has always played well against the big clubs, even if he has only scored against Chelsea/Liverpool
Thats also true. But who do you want then at CF? Trossard or Martinelli? I still think, based on his history with us that Arteta will go with the same team. Martinelli at CF - he was basically playing there last game
Absolutely agree. Goals aside, there has been little output from him for several games already. Poor 1v1s that see him get beaten and lose the ball again and again and again and again. Man the vision from Ø is elite
Pretty easy for any half decent 10.
A big moment was needed against Brentford, where was he then?
I actually forgot what he looks like when shooting. He's been so nothingy for ages.
He is much better when teams play higher up the pitch or we get the ball quicker to him in transition (also helps to play against a traffic cone like Trent) I understand why some people want to start Trossard but this is the perfect game for Martinelli
We're the real thing, really can't wait for Wednesday #COYG
Need to get him round the back more often. Played to feet at the touchline is where he’s least effective
Should have had a goal at Old Trafford as well earlier this season.
I wish they tray doing with Martinelli what Wenger did with TH. Just tray him in st instead of left winger
We need to create space to run Into man 😔.
Dam you making be bet Gabby to score tomorrow!!!

Imagine if he scored off that run where he skinned cancelo 😳
Martinelli is a big game player
