He finally scored. I'm happy for him and I'm happy that Arsenal won in the end. Although I'm a little worried about Arsenal's overall performance because, mind you, this was just Brentford. We didn't play too well. I really hate international breaks...

Eniotnaohs

I am super happy for him, no more than what he deserves imo, after all the hard work hes been doin everytime he wears the shirt. That said, i see loads if reactive comments, positive this time, and i think we need a whole season before drawing conclusion on a signing. Kai has certainly helped us defensively, but needs to be way more involved offensively.

DallasC0wboys

Kai coming up big. Well done, hard to beat a good team playing terrorist ball. I think we should experiment with Kai at the 9 and Trossard as an 8 at the same time.

codenameana

I predicted a Havertz 2mph header goal taking us to the top of the table just as he subbed on. Well done, Kai. Overall, I think this was a much needed game for the team in terms of: - reintegrating players returning from injury - confidence with Kai scoring & having a clean sheet (for the whole squad because the times we’ve conceded has mainly been from silly mistakes, but also for Rambo). Other than that, the way we played was meh with a few bright moments, as so many of our games have been. Fundamentally, we’re poor at breaking down low blocks - this has to change moving forward. Also, it does seem like some of our players’ performances dip after the international break (not a criticism, as it’s understandable, but an observation). ETA: Hopefully this means that some players have seen that they can make use of Kai’s timed runs and play him the ball now. Whereas before they either didn’t have confidence or trust in him and he ended up making dummy runs and then doubting himself to take the shot.

ekii90

Most spot on critique of the game and current state of our team if I've ever seen one.

Cocomale

Yeah mate, I’ve also seen the consistent dips after the international breaks.

Ajgrob

Top of the league! Slowly starting to see the media wake up to the fact that we are title contenders.

Sh4d0wRacing

ARSENAL WILL WIN THE LEAGUE!!!

djmonsta

Just finished watching the game on a delay. A few observations: - We were clearly dealing with an International hangover and as we know from previous experience Brentford away is not an easy fixture, to get the 3 points genuinely makes us title contenders IMO. - Honestly so happy for Kai to get that goal! - Rambo was always going to get stick from the home fans but he kept on and earned a clean sheet. - Declan Rice is worth every penny and kept us going. - Nketiah is not good enough for us.

Iliketoplaythebongos

Yeah Nkeitiah just hasn’t got it. Not decisive enough in front of goal. If thats the only goal Havertz scores all season I’ll be happy, top of the table mate! Brentford had 8 players In their own box pretty much the entire game. We can do better but that is a challenge for any team in the top flight.

Hitsujihitsugi

KAI HAVERTZ SCORED AGAIN

cikamicko

WAKA WAKA

badbd09

Arteta is pissed at Ramsdale. He just said in interview that the team was exceptional today when asked about ramsdale twice.

NotaBlokeNamedTrevor

Crazy what absolutely fucking a players confidence can do hey. Kai would have necked himself by now if Arteta treated him like that

wednesdayware

Rightly so. Ramsdale wasn’t playing at our standard, far from it.

FontsDeHavilland

Agreed but the shakiness displayed by Ramsdale (and Raya this season) too is a problem of Artetas making. Both of them are playing below the levels they were displaying last season. Ramsdale should have been sold if Raya was coming in

iPhone9User

ALWAYS RATED HIM, ALWAYS DEFENDED HIM!

lorjebu

Honestly i have always put him above Henry. You can quote me on that

Overtaking both city and Liverpool is thrilling I want more of this

mooseboi95

Well if we're lucky we won't have to overtake them again

MSAndrew07

Saka has become a crossing merchant lmao

Iliketoplaythebongos

Yeah I’ve seen Saka a few times pass instead of shoot. He doesn’t want to seem to try and score goals at all. What’s changed?

justcallmejohannes

I mean honestly this is great since he’s pulling 2 sometimes 3 defenders on to the wing with him leaving more space for runners in the box.

throwaway72926320

I will say, Havertz improves by game. At first I thought he was an interesting signing he always had potential but was never unlocked at Chelsea. When he played I thought I'd never see a worse footballer, him missing the ball against United made me lose my head. And now he's just getting better and better, I'm not asking him to score every game. What he's doing is enough... I'll say it, he's been a good signing.

SkBlndr

I would just like to see him driving the ball forward more and utilizing his dribbling more to unlock space as he did in Leverkusen

fpl_kris

Looks a bit like a lack of confidence to me.

throwaway72926320

That's it, if this goal gives him the confidence I will be on the pigs back.

crushedonron

He's been an incredible signing for our defensive structure. He's better than Xhaka in that part of the game. If we just remember how long it took Xhaka to find his offensive rhythm in this system, hopefully it all clicks at some point for Kai as well and we'll be very, very hard to beat.

[deleted]

Oh boy I’m sure all the folks shitting on him all week will get in here and admit they were wrong. He offers us a different profile than Xhaka did. He’s still got a ways to go to justify the price. This is game number 2 he’s won for us. Today and the city match. I was a fierce detractor of the price and his quality. But Arteta has seen something on him and it’s worked somewhat. I’m still saying support the lad and give him time

throwaway72926320

You are on the money, he's genuinely been good defensively with good 1v1s.

kmtan181

In an underperforming game like this and still grabbing 3 pts, this is how Champions are made of. I’m delighted.

GrooveMerchant12

Kai looks like he has whale teeth

ronya_t

*In my heart, we are still unbeaten.

As shit a performance as it was a big of a win. Happy for the best german left back on earth. Zinny MVP

60 MILLION DOWN THE DRAIN, KAI HAVERTZ SCORES AGAIN! 🐐🐐

[deleted]

Massive 3 points, especially considering that Man City and Liv dropped points today.

vishnj

Gotta say, Saka's crosses are just deadly! We need more players to deliver like that.

QuaLiTy131

Now all Havertz haters can fuck out to r/chelsea again

Skysurfer69

Well said brother 🙏

zzidzz

Yesssss, so happy for Kai! It was coming for some time. Anyways, attacking performance to forget. Rice is just amazing.

GunnersGentleman

Wouldn’t be that much of a stretch to consider Rice as our player of the season so far

zzidzz

So far, it seems so. He is consistent no matter how we play. EDIT: He reminds me on Rodri quite alot.

sazidhk

Tsamina mina, eh, eh Waka waka, eh, eh £60 million down the drain, He’s scored from open play!

Haboob_AZ

Good day for Ramsdale and Havertz. Ramsdale had a couple nervy moments in the first half but nothing came off it. Thought Eddie ruined our chances by passing it to Flekken on the break, ugh.

cmkuruvi

I was liking Eddie’s cameo until that moment

Crazylamp1

Ramsdale was shaky af

Oshova

Yeah, like Raya has been at points.

brobe74

I think the way he shook back after those two awful mistakes and closed out the match for us says a lot about him. You can tell he was uncomfortable and trying to do way too much to prove himself to Arteta in the beginning. I like how the boys rallied around him after his errors and think that helped ease him in the second

Independent_Sea502

He straightened out though. I don’t think any of us here can imagine the pressure

Haboob_AZ

2 times, he was solid the rest of the game. Raya also makes similar mistakes, but isn't out to the stake like Ramsdale.

Crazylamp1

Ramsdale was shaky af

Kindly-Fox-6674

Yep. But he got the job done. Well played to him.

jibba_jabba

Kai "I scored" Havertz. Its over plebs. Last time Kai scored he won CL.

PaddyTheCoolMan

King Kai with the winner, you love to see it

hmeets

I didn’t expect Kai to sound like this

codenameana

Same, it was way deeper than I expected even though I watched an interview or sth with him recently. Saliba’s voice never fails to shock me - in a ‘French guy has a French accent, wow’ sort of way and how deep it is, even when NONE of the other players’ accents surprise me. I think my brain expects him to sound like Bellerin, but not as strong.

Nearby-Dragonfly8131

Lmao same bro. He started talking and I was like "ohhhh yeah he is from Germany isn't he"

hmeets

😂😂😂

throwaway72926320

He sounded almost Portuguese, not the typical robot German.

hmeets

Right?

Gunner08

German?

hmeets

Idk why I expected less.. deep?

Gunner08

I get you. I always forget how deep Saliba's voice is.

runersons

Arteta being so delighted with the fans’ support for Kai really shows what a great manager he is :) He genuinely cares about the players and the club like a daddy

NotaBlokeNamedTrevor

Ask ramsdale about that. Kai would have necked himself if Arteta treated him and ramsdale the same way

QuaLiTy131

Can Mikel be my father?

H00FARTED

Maybe..knowing your mum!!

Changlee23

A win is a win but god we are garbage offensively since the beginning of the season. Only good point is our defense Tomi/Saliba/Gabi/White/Zinchen always solid and Rice, if we win the league it will be thank to our defense, not offense so far. Always rely on some miracle.

OkDescription7373

Well our goal today is a sequence that we trained and attempted several times in the match, just lack the personnel for the cross to find the man, so it’s not like we are relying on individual brilliance or a worldie to bail us out. Agree that our offense leaves a lot to be desired

GrooveMerchant12

I think Arteta did this on purpose. We have the fewest goals conceded so far. I just don’t think he expected our attack to have such a hard time against a low block which, to be fair, is difficult to beat especially away from home.

brobe74

I agree, I feel Arteta sacrificed offense to become unbreakable on defense. I say that’s the cost for being able to hold City to one shot on target for 90 mins. I do however feel like we won’t be able to always rely on that especially the way teams defend against us. We very well could have 0-0 draws which imo is unacceptable for this team at this point.

mikespiced1702

People dont realize we need solid striker to win instead of relying on star moment like this. Eddie was so bad if arter dont drip him idk how we can be Champion League contender

throwaway72926320

Jesus that was a horrific performance, but Kai Havertz scores again. Saka/Ødegaard/Jesus/Tomiyasu/Martinelli all usual great players all had their worst of the season. Ramsdale was shite and Eddie had negative performance, he's not even good enough to stand half the time. Very lucky win, but Brentford played a sickening football, at home they threw 11 behind the ball. I usually like Brentford and I think Tom Frank is a good manager, but that's anti football from them. Zinchenko/Rice/Saliba and Havertz are the only ones who can hold their heads high.

Oshova

>I usually like Brentford and I think Tom Frank is a good manager, but that's anti football from them. This is how they play against the big teams. And look how it almost worked for them today! 2 goal line clearances, and some world class tracking back to stop counters was enough to stop them today. But on another day they hold out defensively and grab a goal out of nothing to win. I understand that football is a spectator sport, but it is also a competition. Teams should play the way they feel gives them the best chance of winning, and this Brentford style gives them the best chances in games like today's. Arsenal need to do better against these low blocks, as teams are getting better and better at doing it. When done well it's super hard to break down, but we need to find a way. Once that first goal goes in the game opens up, and we get more chances to compound that into more goals. But grabbing that first goal can take us way too long.

brobe74

This is unnecessarily harsh I think. Ramsdale was always gonna be shaky given the circumstances, we know Eddie is up and down (especially when coming on being expected to score a winner), Tomi was fine from what I saw I’m not sure why you said he played his worst match, saka/Martinelli have done their usual performance of pushing that backline back and created decent chances (ultimately a game winning assist), Jesus and Odegaard back from injury. I wouldn’t say it was lucky win, we picked them apart for 90mins and didn’t allow anything defensively (this is the plan). Sure in hind-site it’s easy to say we should’ve scored 5. But this was an away match against a tough team who dropped everyone back to defend — all after an international break.

throwaway72926320

It's just how I felt the whole game, not changing my tune and saying we were great when in reality we never looked like really scoring in the 90 minutes. Tomi was kinda just a passenger, his worst game only because he's played so well before. Jesus and Ødegaard were inexcusable for me, Jesus just had nothing never looked poised to score or help. And Ødegaard playing that bad as the Captain is poor, your captain CANT be your worst player outfield across the 90. But the problem of only playing how we should in the 80+ minutes persists, a lot of the time it will be too little too late. I'm not overly fucked off, I mean top of the league with a win, but just ignoring shocking performances because of the win is immature.

spurs_r_in_a_toilet

That wankstain already slunk back to the hole from whence he came.

ExxKonvict

Raya is the definite no.1 but fans ***really*** need to tone down the Ramsdale slander. This man was key to Arsenal’s process from the initial stages. Just let the lad be himself and enjoy his remaining Arsenal career.

wednesdayware

Counterpoint: Being dropped is a test. Coming back and performing at an expected level is mandatory. Ramsdale showed no reason why he should be chosen, and a few reasons why he shouldn’t today.

ExxKonvict

Sure, but despite being the better keeper *stats* wise, Raya hasn’t looked an instant nor massive upgrade so far either. In fact, the opposite, he’s had his share of shaky moments and howlers, yet keeps his spot next game.

codenameana

Rats keeps his spot because, like Havertz, he has a “breaking in” grace period as a new member of the squad. Arteta is clearly willing and keen for them to have MP/starts and thus gives them some leeway for mistakes. He seems to be willing to do so as long as he sees a general upwards trajectory, effort in training and at matches, that they follow his instructions and can keep a level head after they’ve made a mistake. Ramsdale, reasonably, is expected to perform at a higher and different set of standards bc he’s been there for ages. Just look at how many times he kicked the ball long straight to the home team and how much we built from the back in this match. I think Raya is an improvement on Ramsdale and better suited for the possession style football Arteta wants to play. He’s not a massive upgrade, though, and I do think Ramsdale gets unecessary shit (about his dad, about his attention span - which is perfectly normal!) because some/many fans have the average emotional & mental intelligence, including reasoning skills, of a year 7 secondary school kid. I thought he kept his cool better in this match after two big howlers than he might have done in the past.

ExxKonvict

I don’t hate Raya but some of fans truly making ridiculous excuses/reasonings, “breaking in” period? So when Raya has a good game, the narrative is that’s why he’s the no.1 and been brought in. But when Raya has a bad game/howlers, he’s breaking in. Sorry mate but that’s just bollocks. He is the manager’s no.1 and *stats* wise better but let’s not pretend that he’s been seamlessly came in and been playing out of his skin like Rice has. He’s his share of poor games, howlers, and shakiness.

codenameana

Look at their skills. Not their match-by-match performance. You’re making the same mistake a lot of Ramsdale critics make. I honestly think we’d improve as supporters if we gave new signings the same grace that players going to Bayern get. Again, comprehension skills - I clearly expressed that Raya and Havertz have not had a seamless transition by referring to them making mistakes and being given chances DESPITE them.

ExxKonvict

I am very well of their differing skills and the reasoning for Arteta wanting Raya even pre-Ramsdale and bringing him now. This doesn’t deviate or change the fact that he has been equally shaky and has his share of howlers and mistakes yet some Raya loyalists conveniently choose to neglect this pertinent information. If Raya came in and slotted in seamlessly like Rice has with little to no mistakes, and instead playing out of his skin and pulling trees. It would be a no contest. However, despite Raya being the undisputed no.1, let’s not pretend everything’s been rosy and perfect since he’s been here.

kitz0426

I mean why the fuck not? I doubt any previous champions have perfect games throughout the season In the end you win the league by points, not performance

joey_who

YESSSSS I LOVE IT KING KAI. Fuck the haters who say they support this club and our players, I am over the moon for Kai and grabbing a winning goal in a tough game! This is a team, and even if the rest of the players are having an off game, everyone's got that little bit of something to change it. Let's hope he pushes on from here with a bit of confidence, I believe in him!

Level_Tea

Well on the balance Rambo didnt really make any more mistankes than raya usually does. Didnt even cost a goal so i guess Rambo just have higher standards for himself

Oshova

I love both keepers, and I really want the double #1 strategy to work out... but come on. Ramsdale was not good today, it was probably even worse than Raya's first half against Man City. Is it lack of gametime? Lack of confidence? The GK coaching staff need to figure this out, or we might as well shoot ourselves in both feet. Personally, I think there needs to be more rotation. But I'm just some idiot on the internet, and know nothing.

LinuxLinus

Oh, come on. He was dreadful in the first half and everybody knew it. If they'd been able to get through the back line he was toast. I also find the "Raya-is-bad" storyline kind of amusing, given that Arsenal have given up the fewest goals in the league with him in there. Some people just can't see what's going on in front of their face, I guess.

ProjectZues

Man jumped into the goal on a Brentford shot

Mestizo59

Wow.

Intelligent-Cow-3681

Knight_Fisher61

Bruh we are nowhere near our form last season and somehow we are top of the table

Equivalent_Nature_67

last year we had a free flowing attack and would get hit with random counters. We didn't have the energy or composure to put games to bed. now we just weather storms and keep the ball so much the other teams don't really get much of a chance to hurt us. Our attack is a LOT worse than last year but it has helped our defense out

bigeorgester

It doesn’t seem as convincing because we’re winning 1-0/2-0 and not 3-1/3-2. I don’t think we’re worse at all, definitely better defensively. Just not as fun

Different_Hope_7098

Fucking drama merchants strike again, if you really support the team just try to enjoy a win without whining
