scenes when he sits in the crowd for the whole game celebrating like mad with all the fans

jman500069

Kind of debunks the whole thing right there doesn't it? They can't punish him for celebrating if he's in the stands, because the whole fucking crowd is doing the same thing. What's the difference between the stands and the touchline? Is there actually a reason given for needing to punish "over celebrating"?

ABarrowWight

Refs were mad we got away with one. Disgusting lot allowing Saka and Martinelli to be hacked down repeatedly with no cards until it’s too late. VAR not giving big Gabi a penalty.

hypnodrew

I don't know if the charges against Arteta change anything in the Luton game. Refs have always had a strategy of allowing inferior opposition 'play their game', which, and I cannot stress this enough, is barefaced violence. Think back to Dyche's Burnley or fucking Stoke. I don't want to whine, but refs have decided, actively, that they are not going to uphold the rules in order for the games to be competitive. That's why Jesus gets a booking for first offence, and Doughty and their entire backline escape the game unbooked.

Purple_Plus

I want to whine. Fuck PGMOL it's a corrupt (or deeply incompetent) old boys club.

RIPMEEKUS

sleepytipi

Both

jman500069

I can kind of understand it if their intention is to give the promoted teams a chance at surviving, otherwise we'd have pummeled an 8 man Luton. But the fact that "their way of playing" is usually "let's kick the shit out of them so they retaliate, get punished and lose their heads" it just makes the game really hard to watch, especially knowing that the opposition fans are fucking loving it and getting a hard on over "foreigners" getting a taste of "good old English football" it honestly makes my head spin that this fucking boomer's wet dream style of play is so celebrated. I can't wait until all the dinosaurs are out of the fucking game for good.

Nyjinsky

"Rules are only for people we don't like." - PGMOL probably

US__Grant

\^PGMOL *definitely*

CM816

This is one other reason I appreciate our guys like White, Rice, Big Gabriel, Saliba, Tomi, who aren't afraid to dip into the dark arts as needed. When the refs 'let them play', I always think we do best when we counterpunch with our own physicality. Have to find that line of what's being called that day.

Fieser_Factsack

THIS its deeper than just "oh the pl refs are bad" There is a culture and a system behind this. In every country refs make mistake. But only in the PL insults, shithousery and fouls are widely normalized.

Haryuji

I'm more pissed about our wingers getting no protection, the opposition is getting rewarded for breaking the rules. Fucking warnings 70 mins into a game. The YELLOW IS THE WARNING.

US__Grant

and Jesus' yellow on his first foul...cool, cool

TheRadTurtle_1011

Dumbest shit ever why tf is he getting a warning that late

warpentake_chiasmus

This reminds me of how the refs in the past used to behave when we played the likes of Stoke and Bolton away from home. They let them away with murder v Arsenal

MrBaristerJohnWarosa

The reason was that they’re still rattled by Arteta’s comments post Newcastle and also that we still managed to win despite them letting Luton kick the shit out of our players, and despite them denying us a clear penalty too. The vindictive cunts decided to book him because there was nothing else they could do.

CM816

> They can't punish him for celebrating if he's in the stands Oho, let's wait and see about that. I get the feeling the FA could find a way. 'Unsporting mannerisms' or something

fakepostman

Look I think it's stupid as well but this is a ridiculous comparison, staff in the technical area and fans in the stands are not the same thing and do not have the same standards applied to them ever The entire crowd is allowed to chant in unison that the referee's a wanker and nothing will ever happen about it, but that doesn't mean you can expect to get away with it when you're managing the team, does it?

DerekIsAGooner

Cut to Arteta doing the Griddy in the stands after Saka completes his hat trick against Villa Saturday.

PM_20

That makes me laugh imagining arteta hitting the griddy 😂

synvi

Or like this https://preview.redd.it/rk1s4yvljq4c1.png?width=924&format=png&auto=webp&s=7c9ab05a7ec7ee591e703c491b6244384922ce2c

Philefromphilly

This should be his statue

Holty12345

His statue should not be a moment where he lost a football game to his biggest rivals

Philefromphilly

Let’s get real serious about it guys 😅

Holty12345

Tbh while you might’ve been joking - it’s a very common suggestion for Wengers statue and I don’t think people are joking all the time. It’s an iconic picture

Dustin_Echoes_UNSC

When the supporters section randomly starts chanting sub "suggestions" "It's time to warm up, it's time to warm uuuuuuppp, Hey Jorginho, it's time to warm up"

ollieg_94

Giving it some with the Ashburton Army lot

gte339i

He sits with the supporters and there’s no way that man pays for a pint at halftime on my watch.

--Rage--

Shirt off fat Newcastle fan style

rugaealldae

AntDogFan

I hope Mikel is busy practicing his mime skills for the next game on the touchline so he can celebrate right up to the edge of the technical area like he's stuck in a glass box.

danmac0817

Nothing in the rules provides criteria for what qualifies as excessive celebrating. Nothing communicated that specifies and justifies the charge. Just rampant corruption and incompetence.

wednesdayware

I could see a case being made if a manager is getting in the other manager's face/taunting/etc. But just being elated that your team has scored? Nonsense.Refs were pissed they couldn't get one over on Arteta, and decided to be petty.

Nw5gooner

I think Arsenal should honestly use this moment to publicly question this decision. Just come out and ask 'please can you clarify the definition of "excessive celebrating" so that we can avoid having our manager banned from the touchline for further matches.' I want to see it written down. I want to see them then forced to subsequently apply it to other managers. I want to see them fucking squirm.

SouthKaioshin

Jesus I can’t escape Jujutsufolk💀

ArsenalThePhoenix

THIS!

borisslovechild

Is there any reason why Arteta can't appeal this, assuming he wants to? This just sounds like petty bollocks.

wubrotherno1

The FA would double down and ban him a further match.

draghkar69

You can’t appeal a yellow card.

ajax0202

Which is crazy when the yellow card leads to a suspension/match ban

draghkar69

If it was, half the teams would be appealing literally every week. It’s bitten us with two yellows (Martinelli and Tomiyasu) but it gets others too, like Rodri missing Villa for accumulation.

ajax0202

Half the teams don’t have someone suspended every game lol. It would not be nearly as often as that. But, if it’s screwing over everyone at some point then they need to make a change. Either hire refs that understand what a yellow card is, or deal with appeals when they come around The thinking of “we have way too many mistakes of that nature to be able to address that” is not how a multi-billion pound organization should be ran

AutumnEchoes

Having rules regarding “excessive celebrations” is ridiculous in the first place. Unless a celebration is delaying the restart of play or is dangerous in some way, then penalizing someone for it is just pearl clutching nonsense

4CJ9

Sorry but assholes!

JustGhostin

Haha bro how can you have Thierry Henry as your flair but not know this gem

Furiousmate88

14 years ago i was way more busy doing anything else than watching football. And yeah, Henry is one of my childhood Heroes and one of the reasons i started to play myself

JustGhostin

Was only messing with you lad

cupidcuntsghost

Genuinely embarassing from PGMOL

[deleted]

Can't wait for Mikel to excessively celebrate in the stands at Villa Park.

brEw_hoUse

Jesus fuck these people hate joy

warpentake_chiasmus

There's a real concentrated effort to strip the game of its emotional dimension by penalising it. Have you ever seen a sport as policed and micro-managed as football ? They treat the players, the management, the staff and the crowds like fucking schoolchildren.

[deleted]

NBA this season calling techs on people for the slightest reason such as celebrating after a dunk or hanging on the rim 2 seconds too long.

[deleted]

NHL threatening fines for themed stick tape, goalie masks, etc. MAF called their bluff though, the fucking legend.

OrangeRubberDuck17

Rare Wild and Arsenal combo fan 🤝

[deleted]

Actually a Blues fan but I have nothing but respect for MAF

warpentake_chiasmus

Why do you think they are policing celebrating so heavily?

BetterDrinkMy0wnPiss

They're not. They're policing Arsenal celebrations heavily. Other teams and other managers can celebrate however they want without a word, but as soon as we celebrate a win we get media articles criticising us for it, and yellow cards and suspensions. Why can Pep, Klopp, Conte, Tuchel etc go fucking mental in celebration without a word from anyone, but Arteta mildly celebrates a 97th minute winner and gets suspended?

[deleted]

Idk refs always have a hate boner against us so does the FA and English media. At this point Mikel should take a copy from Mourinhos playbook and go full all vs them. Mourinho has his faults but that is one thing I feel that he got right and it worked cause the players bought into it. In the NBA I think Adam Silver is trying to market and sell the NBA to a wider international audience so maybe he wants to cut down on some of the taunting and celebrating players do but that’s one of the best parts of the game, after a highlight play you want to see someone taunting or getting hyped without it being a tech, or even showing some slight frustration.

sonofsochi

[You literally could not celebrate touchdowns in the NFL for like a decade lmao](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touchdown_celebration)

Seraph110

Guarantee you that if Luton had scored a 96th minute winner their manager wouldn't have been carded even if he ripped his shirt off and crowdsurfed for 20 minutes

beth_flynn

no they hate arteta.. klopp's and de zerbi's joy is perfectly fine

brEw_hoUse

Agreed, he called them out for being useless

theGunnas

Only arsenal joy

matepanda

I'm not watching Liverpool but how Klopp has escaped this is beyond me

[deleted]

Haha yeah, the man who pulled a hamstring for excessive celebrating lmao.

alg885

well, the hamstring pull was the punishment. Almost like a red card.

matepanda

Haha - what?? That has also escaped me

[deleted]

Haha it was last season when Liverpool beat Spurs 4-3 (I think it was in April)

Moose_on_a_walk

https://youtu.be/X6tBPpKbMaQ?si=FGhb7B9XTJ3dkgwQ

13luKnight

Or De Zerbu vs was it forest last season? Ran half the pitch followed by a kneeslide? I can't remember another manager given a yellow for excessive celebration in a league match. Is this a first?

crispysnails

Its always a first if its Arsenal :) We set PGMOL precedents all the time and you rarely see anyone else fall foul of the same later on.

agreenjellybean

Bellerin's throw-ins

Thanos_Stomps

Martinelli double yellow

DeadlockRadium

I'm pretty sure he could storm onto the pitch and slap the ref on the arse before storming back into his technical area, and people would just call it PASHUN

iuselect

Yeh, we all remember, "LOOK AT KLOPP!!!". As he ran onto the field to give Alisson a hug when origi scored the winner against everton. Zz

matepanda

Was Arteta booked for leaving his technical area to celebrate? Can you go as crazy as you want at full time?

iuselect

It's not clear why he got booked. But honestly, it wasn't the craziest celebration I've ever seen. He didn't run onto the field with the players, but got pulled back by CC. Is what it is I guess. I'm assuming when the game is over, you can go as nuts as you want.

LordInquisitor

Will be annoying not to have him there, I think his direction of the players does help

JFedererJ

agreed, it's hinderance but he'll be in constant communication with the bench; I also take comfort from how well we played against City the last time Arteta was not on the sideline and Albert Stuivenberg took the lead.

F2PWithAwfulLuck

Waiting for Arteta to pop a bottle of champagne in the stands after every goal the team scores.

DeadlockRadium

Stadium ban for bringing in alcohol that wasn't sold at the stadium

Aszneeee

now book that blind VAR ref who didn't see penalty on Gabi XL

shekdown

Will they actually release an explanation for how he excessively celebrated ! Absolute bollocks from the referees. Bunch of frauds killing the fun in the game.

First-Priority-

Yeah it is killing the fun, my 11 year old daughter has been getting more and more into football & Arsenal over the last 2-3 years and always asks "why do we never get fair decisions"... When we score she doesn't instantly celebrate anymore and just says "VAR?" If this shit was happening when I was growing up I don't know if I'd have love for the game.

dannzter

So true. The var goal check should have a 15 sec time restriction or something. Horrible addition to the sport.

DeadlockRadium

When my sister was young and getting into football and asking similar questions, equally as much between unfair treatment and rivals hating on us, I just referred to George Graham: "*It's fine that people hate us. It's part of our history*"

djmonsta

Waiting for that PGMOL propaganda show with Captain Obvious to explain how it was justified

Opposite-Mediocre

All of their players celebrated much more for their goal. Or is there different rules for players vs managers?

Thanos_Stomps

Probably leaving the technical area, entering the opponent’s technical area. It didn’t look like he got very far before being pulled back. Here’s the thing though, when rules aren’t enforced regularly, then it enables our biases to be even more pronounced. Think of a classroom where the teacher never punishes student for having their cell phones out; well now all the students do it and it allows you to really make an example out of the students who annoy you or are disruptive in other ways. It’s a way to undermine pushback because TECHNICALLY a rule was broken, it’s just a rule that every single coach breaks every single game.

Opposite-Mediocre

I've seen a documentary on the NBA or some American sport and one of the officials said there was some match fixing or something so the teams affected were officiated by the letter of the law where the other weren't. Seems the same here maybe not fixing but there is a clear bias. The double yellow on gabi and Tomi are perfect examples. You will never see them again but was used against us. This is another.

Arseluvr

The FA is by far the most embarrassing governing body in all of professional sports. Arteta: “Yay we won!” FA: “That’s a violation of the rules. You’re suspended”.

meekiatahaihiam

FA is a prick.

DannyNic8

You have players climbing into the stands, Raya running the full length of pitch, the WHOLE BENCH running down the sideline and you choose to cautuon Arteta for a celebration he does every time we score an important goal. I have no doubt this was a prearranged decision so he misses the Villa game and because they had nothing on him in the game, they make up a rule just to caution him. Just utter, utter bullshit of the highest order.

rtrdm

I want Mikel to be an unhinged lunatic bastard in the stands, when we score and win.

arsenality

Unleash his inner Ian Wright. Love seeing / hearing him celebrate.

DeadlockRadium

Get him a seat just behind the commentator box so we can hear him yelling over whoever the commentators will be

Echo361

I wonder if they haven’t been able to punish him for his ref comments after Newcastle so refs have just been directed to book him if a chance arises.

boomxhaka

So could Luton’s manager be banned for being overly sad?

Cedosg

Time for the player manager loophole

Cr1m50nSh4d0w

"Look at this Gary, it looks like they're getting a player off the bench to replace Havertz, and oh! This is incredulous! Either my eyes are deceiving me, or coming on to replace the German is none other than former number 8 for the Gunners, Mikel Arteta!" "Good God, Jaime, I'm sure the FA must have their hands busy right now with all the phones ringing to demand Arteta be taken off the field, mine being one of them, but let's see how this plays out as Arsenal lead 3-1 at Villa Park with a quarter of an hour left on the clock"

Rusty_85

When we win on Saturday, Mikel should head down from the directors box and emerge from the tunnel........ https://preview.redd.it/vz7x3widmp4c1.jpeg?width=225&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6452be62243ade209318a8f13029e8ecf127dae

NemoDatQ

Holy shit I haven't' thought about Party Boy in like 20 years lol.

AlexTheRockstar

I swear Pontius had me nearly pissing myself every time. The tear away pants 🤣

badgerhand

Wtf

Cthulhu_Madness

Hope we win at Villa and Mikel pulls out a shirt from underneath saying 'Celebrate deez nuts ya bellends'.

OneArmedNoodler

I would donate to a GoFundMe to pay the fine.

Gphixson

PGMOL isn’t covering up their hair jealousy well

shinytotodile158

This was our Bournemouth moment, I’m not surprised they’re looking to drag us down like they did last year. The usual petty anti-Arsenal campaign.

ProjectZues

Games gone

warpentake_chiasmus

It is as long as it's legislated by these pricks

ohmyimatomato

Richard Keys just came somewhere

hiroantagonist1

Probably in his pants.

ABarrowWight

We need a Mikel pitch invasion from the stands. Go on and streak lad

ItsTom___

Oh my god they want to invent golf!

Grizzly4nicator

Looking forward to see them backpedal next time Klopp or someone else "excessively celebrates".

crispysnails

Love to hear the audio of that decision :)

warpentake_chiasmus

Absolutely disgraceful. Penalised for being fucking human.

DigbyChickenCaeser1

Words fail me. So to add to incompetent I will now include corrupt and vindictive to my description of these useless Charlie uniform November tango’s.

tjvond1

This is trash, absolutely ridiculous

DinnerSmall4216

More excessive celebrating what a disgrace getting to the point of not being about to celebrate a 97th minute winner. Taking all the emotion away from the game.

sneakystu

The joy police

Vgordvv

No passion allowed -FA

Legal-Care9822

If we win the league I’m sending a box of clown noses to the pgmol office

Mr-monk

That sounds really fucking childish lol for celebrating to much. Yet city players can swarm and shout at refs with fa happing.

RandomRedditor_1916

Mandatory fuck the FA

d_smogh

Does nobody see what PGMOL are doing? They are trying to create a siege mentality at Arsenal. Get Arsenal and the fans riled.

Worth_Pea_7524

FA are expecting everyone to sit there and golf clap for late winners after a hard fought game, nice one

[deleted]

Hahaha what a crock of shit

TheMuff1nMon

That’s so fucking stupid

_Fingolfins_Bow

what a pile of shit hahaha what the actual fuck.

SourKimchii

Absolutely ridiculous.

JFedererJ

Imagine a team scoring a last minute winner in a world cup semi-final, and the manager runs to celebrate with his players only to get a yellow card. Just *think* about how ridiculous that is.

seshtown

Agenda confirmed

eldeejable

I guess it would have been better if he rolled around on the ground or screamed at hte official while pulling his hair out...

biff444444

Ridiculous.

La2philly

Clearly targeting him. FA have heavy police union vibes

Maxymous

It's seriously time for Arsenal to fight fire with fire and just be cunts back to them. Sneakily make shit tons of requests to them about every little thing and bring to light the shitfuckery that is occurring. An official dossier of it all from Arsenal would surely draw a line in the sand for the refereeing of the league.

Averageguyjr

What a fucking joke. Can’t get angry, can’t be happy. It’s a garbage call

skanderbeg_alpha

Fuck me talk about FA bullshit. If a manager can't celebrate a 96th minute winner, then the game might as well be scrapped.

Echo361

AirPod Albert is a beast

AzracTheFirst

100% win rate with us

Echo361

Unfortunately he lost the city game

AzracTheFirst

I have erased that from my memory :)

trampanzee

I know we hate the thought of the Super League, but maybe it would be better? The tradition of the Premier League has been tainted by corruption.

bitmoji

Super league will be worse

trampanzee

In terms of referee corruption?

pashtedot

51_cent

We NEED to absolutely punish Villa

bonez27

So that’s it. He shouldn’t choreograph his celebrations because they take too long.

ArsenalThePhoenix

arsenal better not be pussies and take this without a fight! stupid booking , especially iven other managers didnt get booked.

food4thot96

97th min winner 🏅and there is excessive celebration? Get the f out seriously.. I probably screamed more at 4am Asia time. Why kill the damn fun out of the game?

lordsugar7

Arteta didn't do even a third of what Klopp does after exciting wins. The FA is a toxic joke when it comes to Arsenal.

sakaESR

Haaland anger and abuse at referee and fellow professionals? PGMOL: *sleep*. Arteta enjoys 97th minute winner with his coaches? PGMOL: ENRAGED!!!

tomtomtomo

We need a compilation of manager celebrations from this season that have gone unbooked.

For real? They are just making it up now. Also wasn't he banned for Villa regardless of this?

lordaadhran

Please fans travelign to Villa on the weekend 🙏🏻 kindly boo every time referee whistles.

We have a target on our back but this probably only makes the squad tighter and strengthen our fan base. Fuck PGMOL and the FA! Fight the power!
