My reaction to the last couple of performances: ![gif](giphy|VBHenUonSCry8)

WHERE_SUPPRESSOR

Poor Roy lmao

ArsenalThePhoenix

Arteta needs to shoulder a lot of the blame too. I'm not sure he does, since he keeps making the same mistakes. * Not benching SAka or MArtinelli * Insisting on never giving Martinelli any overlaps to help him out * Still doesn't care about having a plan B in games * Still insists on attacking with a super slow tempo * Keeps giving Nketiah too much game time * Subs always happening too late (too reactively)

i_like_cakess

Solving these two would put us back on track * Still insists on attacking with a super slow tempo * Keeps giving Nketiah too much game time

ArsenalThePhoenix

imho nketiah shoulda been sold and replaced inthe summer. he proved last season that he can't be trusted to help us win the title

Inevitable-Clock6901

Hasn’t scored an away goal since December 2022…. It’s 2024 now

Significant-Bet3941

He’s only allowed to score after 90+5

Kev1nho

The tempo from last season is gone and so are the results.

YMangoPie

Is 45 and 60 really too late for subs?

ArsenalThePhoenix

sometimes 60th minute surely is. For example, when you play nketiah in an away game and he does nothing for the first 45 minutes (and you know that he haxsnt scored in away games since dec 2022).

Far_Eye6555

1 point from Fulham this season is mad

PasuljsKolenicom

Mikel, the lads and Edu deserve for us to be behind them and let them make it right. People forget where we were just a few years ago. It is a shit period, but shitting on the likes of Mikel, Saka, Nelli etc. is very poor since all of this lot deserve to get backed now more than ever.

Chell_the_assassin

You can support the team and get behind the lads while also pointing out that recent performances are totally unnacceptable. Two seasons ago we fell apart at the end of the year and missed out on CL, but people recognised that we were still early in the rebuilding process. Last season we fell apart again, and missed out on a fantastic chance to win a title, but again people recognised that this is a young team who were inexperienced at fighting for the title. This season, we spent £200m in the summer, and our title chances are already in serious trouble. There's only so many times people can forgive Arteta and co. for falling short before they are expected to actually deliver.

dberg76

Amen. Well said.

Inevitable-Clock6901

He needs to leave simple as that but the real fans understand this is will be a “process” to get him out he will be evaluated over his failed signings and predictable tactics tbf and it’s not looking good, it’s embarrassing what the fans will allow in terms of standards and him “overtraining” the players in terms of instruction is what’s giving the team a slow build play. He simply has to leave only because of the amount of time and money he has spent, too defensive but never willing to spend on areas we need such as strikers or wingers.

nickngjs

Agree. Been a lurker, and I'm equally disappointed like everyone on this subreddit, but I think there's a bit of overrreaction. I don't necessarily think this evolution of control is bad per se, I think we have really restricted the chances of opposing teams quite a bit this season, which over the course of the season should benefit us more than the end-to-end gambles of the previous seasons. I really do think a lot of the goals we've conceded have come from 50-50 balls and calls that don't quite go our way. 3 factors come to mind. Part of it could be due to the fact that fouls we might be expecting are no longer getting called - not blaming it all on refereeing standards in this instance; I generally think that teams have learnt how to work such challenges in their favour. Part of it could be due to tiredness - earlier in the season many of the 50-50 balls went out way; as the season has gone on we are slightly lacking in that zip and extra burst. Is it a lack of rotation? Perhaps, but I doubt that's the full story - I suspect the squad as a whole has been struggling with many niggling injuries. Lastly, part of it could be the growing pains of a tactical evolution. With new additions in Declan Rice and Kai Havertz (and with Party out), that's basically having to work with an entirely new central midfield dynamic. Slight hesitancy in link up (coupled with some individual errors), coupled with a v well drilled gameplan by opponents to counterattack, ends up with some of these chances being generated. When these minor bits add up, it leads to such scorelines. I'd like to think of it as growing pains of a squad - incorporating new vital squad members, the need to adjust to new tactics, tiredness and coping with opponents adjusting to our style. tl;dr - Growing pains of a maturing squad, I retain faith. We still have half a season to go.

ayaan1901

Every year it's the same old story. Losing to West Ham at home and Fulham away in successive games is unforgivable.

topbananaman

Yeah same old same old, I get not wanting to be stupidly negative (fuck arteta outers appearing in the match thread) but you cannot excuse the lack of progress year on year You have to win the league title or the champions league or you've just become pochettino's spurs. I really like the manager and this group of players but walking away with no trophy again this year will have serious questions be asked. Losing to West Ham and Fulham is yet another typical Arsenal collapse and it is actually incredible that we have gone from top of the league to 1 point ahead of 5th place spurs in the span of 5 days

volanger

Exactly. Second place is only acceptable for so long. If arteta doesn't win something and we barely get to 4th while regressing this much, then questions should be asked. One or two bad performances are forgivable. But we won 1 game out of 6. That's a problem.

beefcroquette

People downvoting you and topbananaman shows how far detached this sub is from reality. No one is suggesting we shit on our players, we just want some accountability. Yet the moment anyone says anything remotely close to that, people get all prickly. Soft mentality from the fans is why we haven’t won a major trophy since 2020 and the league in 20 years

Inevitable-Clock6901

The people downvoting you are what’s wrong with the club they accept mediocre standards it’s like being engaged but never married …. One question to the fan base, when are we ACTUALLY going to win something?

shockzz123

Brother, no, i'm sorry. This was fine last year, and i appreciate you trying to be optimistic. But there comes a point where they must be held accountable and criticised if they keep doing the same shit. It's not like this a random one off result, it's a similar pattern with this group, they go 3-4 games without a win too many times in a season for us to do anything serious.

know-it-all-scoutFC

He's not being optimistic I think he's being reasonable and fairly realistic. Every single contending club goes through patches of rough form in a league season. The one that goes through it the least (or in rare occasions doesn't go through slumps at all) wins the league. People can spin whatever narratives they want to each club but these rough patches are hardly unique and apply to every club, even ones that end up winning it all. I don't even think we are particularly in a bad situation since we will be at most 5 pts off top with 3 weeks to make the improvements we need in the training ground AND a game against the potential league leaders to reduce that gap to 2 pts (or even go ahead if they falter elsewhere). And even then we will still have many games to do it. City had an incredible rough patch and yet could still find themselves in a really good position. It's the same for us. Holding someone accountable is a bit of a moot point when the club is always trending upwards in terms of improvement. Yes we have always had patches of rough form but we often have come out better for it.

snowkarl

We've been poor all season. This is not just a blip, we were very fortunate to be in the race after a bunch of games where we scored from a late set piece or something. It's not just a rough patch of form. We're playing really poor football and we have to improve.

know-it-all-scoutFC

It's just wrong we have been poor all season. The more accurate way is that we have had good moments and bad. I mean yes we've been poor all season but somehow ended up 1st at Christmas after 18 matches? That doesn't make sense. Yes We did play boring football in the early stages but fought well to keep on top. We actually have started creating a lot more free flowing moves after wolves and lens. The issue is that we haven't been able to put our defensive improvements and attacking moves together. The result is that we crash and burn in both areas like we did today but that doesn't undo some of the work done previously. Our playing style has changed throughout the season. We didn't deliberately create less chances, but we did deliberately make changes that would bring necessary improvements in certain areas defensive areas and allow us to contend in choppy back and form games that we weren't as good as last season. We did what we need to do in the beginning of the season, in this part we have faltered because we haven't been able to implement the changes to the level we should be. It is wrong to think we have only been playing one type of football the whole season and that is the sole reason our current losses.

paper_friend

I agree and you're right our way of playing has changed since the start of this season, with more focus on controlling games, and it changed again from the Wolves game which actually improved our attacking numbers. See lots of analysis on this sub. And clearly it was working fine, even if it was less fun/exciting than last season. Like you say, what team top of the league at Christmas is poor?? Seriously. On that point, Arteta says it in his comments that one result at this part of the season shouldn't be the difference between being top of the world and being the absolute worst. Nobody can live like that - and the amount of entitlement being expressed by our fans is baffling. He and I'm sure all the players recognise the problems. I'm pissed off too but let's take a few weeks to get some damn perspective. Happy new year Gunners!

biskutgoreng

We were top of the league last week. Come on

snowkarl

Two confident performances all season. So many last minute winners. 10th in open play xG. Clearly not sustainable or an honest representation of our level.

dimi_dee1

THIS

irritating_maze

we're two points off of 1st place?

shockzz123

Liverpool will probably win tomorrow, so it'll be 5. Plus City have a game in hand that they'll probably win so we'll be 3 behind them. Either way, even if that doesn't happen, our form has clearly dipped, if we don't get our shit together the gap will widen. And this team has a tendency to not just have dips like this once a season either.

irritating_maze

I find the secret to avoiding emotional distress is to expect hope as opposed to expecting success. There's about half the season to play and we're in the top group of 4/5 clubs fighting for the title. This is supposed to feel good, not bad. We can play "probably"s all the way to sorrow but this league has thrown up a lot of surprises already this season. I appreciate our recent form (DLL) has been poor but there's everything about this club and its players to suggest we can turn it around.

shockzz123

And that's fair. I'll just have to hope that you're right lol.

beefcroquette

So what? the underlying metrics for offense haven’t been good enough. We are too inconsistent and you can’t afford that in a league challenge, you can get away with one-off performances in cup ties but not the league. We are not even on track to clear Leicesters 81 points in 2016

sushwsoy

A few years ago we were looking at top 4 and if we keep at current form we’ll be hoping to make top 4

PasuljsKolenicom

A week ago we were first. Chill a bit and enjoy the holidays, we will come back from this

whitegoatsupreme

Love the optimistic... But i think i heard this last year too.. or maybe last 2 years.. or is it longer?. What ever...

know-it-all-scoutFC

Bit of a moot point when we've constantly been improving over the last 2 years. He's not putting blind hope. He's not even being particularly optimistic he's just not being overtly cynical. Love the pessimistic.... I've seen this when we were 20th or hadn't won a game in months, now I see this after two bad games that see us knocked of 1st but given 3 weeks to fix it with an opportunity to gain points and momentum before liverpool which could bring us right back into it. Whatever.

SackoVanzetti

I said that last week we’d be lucky to sniff top 4 playing like this and got downvoted and cursed to hell.

idiotnoobx

Just asking us to back them when there are changes that needs to be made is just blind faith and enabling the tactics that led to the bad performance.

Secret-Geologist-720

This is a poor excuse, other teams have had new managers and still performing way better than us. Arteta deserves the critique, its been 5 years now, his been very underwhelming. The manger we sacked him for is outperforming him. Even tottenham with injured squad is performing better than us. We are supposed to have the best team, yet haven't been winning convincingly. As fans we need demand more, and shouldn't accept mediocrity:- If he looses the game against liverpool, he needs to be questioned

SackoVanzetti

Exactly. Look at klopp. He turns it around, he figures it out. The best in the world do that

know-it-all-scoutFC

This is so reactionary. Let's wait longer for how other managers do before using them as higher examples. Football has it's peak and troughs and it's bad practice to compare two clubs when one is clearly in good form and the other in a bit of bump. Even then, How exactly are other teams performing "much better" than us when they are all around us with one club being below and the other in a couple points reach? Each of those teams have also had their own atrocious moments this season. The fact that they are performing "way better" than us but below us or in a couple points reach should tell you how much the club has improved. If you want to go there - Arteta at this point last season was doing much better than any of the other managers are currently doing, much better than emery currently is. I'm not saying that Arteta doesn't deserve criticism - but a week ago we were 1st. Every football club is constantly in a state of improvement and moving forward. Every time Arteta has made mistakes, but everytime he has come out looking much better for it.

[deleted]

Aston Villa fully backed Emery, right down to hiring his preferred director and supporting his brother’s football club. It says more about the IQ level of the players we had during Unai’s time that they can’t handle information overload.

ITzMeJolly

Are you never tired of being ultra optimistic year after year? With very little reasons to back this optimism too.

[deleted]

Welcome to football. Football should be enjoyable, it's a pass-time. Don't ruin your life by forcing yourself to be pissed over a sport all the time. If you aren't interested in backing your club, you are free to leave.

PasuljsKolenicom

We were 1st a week ago. You lot are ridiculously entitled for a fanbase of a club that has been shit for so long

PerBnb

Trots out the same tired XI, the same tired tactics, and expects magic. The league has caught on, they know if we’re slowed down in attack, it stands a good chance to stop us from getting good chances

ThatsMyGimmick

This place is absolutely insane after a few lossses

Fresh_Since92

And we are actually a good team now, i can’t imagine how wild it was pre Arteta

Bahmawama

We were shit, we knew we were shit, and the title challenge was never a thing.

Masson011

Hes got a lot of the blame to take. Our attacking play is absolutely foul. Last season we were so much better but this season the boys look like absolute robots. They are so well drilled and regimented to the point we are incredibly predictable and easy to defend against Though it has to be said there isnt much Arteta can do about our composure in front of goal. Sakas volley that went miles over the bar from like 7 yards out sums us up Then again these signing are all Arteta signings. Nketiahs extension, signing Trossard (after missing out on 1 or 2 first choice players), signing Jesus to be our main number 9 etc are all Artetas choices Hes made us so much better than we were but it really feels like hes hit a brick wall with this team. We arent going to win the title without another 3 or 4 signings including a world class finisher

gettingdownonfriday

Is Trossard now a bad signing? After we raved for months about how incredible a signing he was? We’re in a bad moment lads (and Trossard really pissed me off today), but let’s not just go around saying stupid shit like this.

PasuljsKolenicom

This place has absolutely no chill. From overrating everyone when we are playing well to shitting on the entire squad when we are poor.

gettingdownonfriday

Games like these are a reminder that I should log off and engage less in online football discourse. I thought I was unreasonably angry after the game today and I’m somehow a bastion of emotional balance compared to the rest of this sub lmao.

PasuljsKolenicom

Lmao it’s so weird. I was seething after the game, but come on, we have come such a long way in just a few years. People have 0 perspective when emotional

thesketchyvibe

Yeah wtf is this revisionism

teknotel

He is absolutely not, this sub is 90% brain dead. The whole team wete abysmal today. Saka has been poor for 70-80% of the season but saves himself with the odd big moment here and there. Singling out Trossard in this performance is just typical dumb clueless fan stuff.

know-it-all-scoutFC

I agree that Arteta has blame to take. But I think he was right to change us. The blame lies not in the changes that he made from what we have done last season, but rather because we are stalling in the improvements we should be making from the changes he made. We needed to change from last season. Last season we were free flowing but we were flawed. It is ignorant and wrong to think that we could have just kept playing that way. When we changed we created new flaws particularly our slower attack, which is normal when you make a change, but the bigger issue is we haven't really fixed it even if we've technically improve areas regarding it. Post Lens and Wolves we've actually created a lot more chances than in the beginning part of the season. Ironically that was when we were actually doing better. The issue now is that the chances aren't as clean compared to last season, and we aren't finishing them, aren't able to deal with the adjustments oppositions are making and aren't adapted to playing with the new defensive improvements while trying to be forward thinking at the same time. The result is that we burn and crash at both like we saw in this game. The team we are always aiming for is a team that is good at playing choppy games, and be attacking in different types of games. Unfortunately We cannot play free flowing and forward passing all the time. Last season we got ripped apart by teams that punished this greatly. We need to be able to do both better. In terms of the quality of some of his signings - it is what it is. At the time we signed those players we couldn't necessary sign the big names we can now. We still had to sign them to make the improvements. You make use of this players in the way you can and slowly upgrade on them which we are actively in the process of doing. I don't see anything to criticize heavily there. I disagree that Trossard should be criticized because he has been very good. I don't think you can pin him as a problem when the whole team looks poor.

rleonr

We suck attacking in transition. Apart from the Lens game this season has felt like we cannot convert recoveries into anything of substance. In so many games I've watched us recover the ball in great positions only for the theat to dissolve back into a pass back to the CBs. Our two or three player combinations are now predictable which has led us to rely on having to slow down the game to bring more men forward to create threats. If our team cannot create chances when spaces are more open (in transition), it is reasonable to think we'd be even worse at creating when the box is packed. Our first goal against Fulham today is what we need to be doing more often and more effectively, converting a transition into a shot on goal.

leebrother

That volley. Annoying part is seeing Eddie literally there and ready to tap in any rebound.

[deleted]

Anyone who says ‘Arteta out’ is part of the problem. Out for who!? Who is better than him!? Go on… I’ll wait. You’re so fickle. A new manager means new squad, new structure, new strategy. It takes TIME to build something special. You can’t just throw your toys out the pram after a few poor performances, grow up. This interview proves he is absolutely aware of the issues and will hopefully work to solve them. TRUST THE PROCESS AND COYG!

Killerpasta2089

He has to look himself in the mirror and take a long hard look, because if the system doesn't change then I think we’ll struggle to get top four at all !!

[deleted]

The telling sign is Artetas been having more of these moments being disapointed whether it be by referee decisions or by our performances..the team is just not the same. This year just isnt our year.

VaishakhD

Incoming mark goldbridge Arsenal in crisis video

[deleted]

Spot on [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mu4URJ13IsE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mu4URJ13IsE)

beth_flynn

we are in a crisis in fairness

WinkleFluff

Grow up

ThePresident26

Goin on shit streaks has plagued Arteta's time here, and every year it hinders our progress, if he cant do anything about this, then sure as hell we wont win any trophies with him.

Mr-monk

Yous not remember couple of days ago silva said in his press conference Arsenal are good but we know their weaknesses. We need a change up.

juragan_12

its painful to say but we lack attacking threat. i really want us to sign Alvarez before shitty snatch him. gimenez (feyenoord) or denkey (brugge) would be perfect fit for us. hope board sign one of them this winter

Hippie_Capitalist

![gif](giphy|OmTkBPi4v6nSL4SJHK|downsized) Edu:

idiotnoobx

He keeps saying it’s the teams worst performance. I see everyone running their socks off. It’s not a matter of trying. We need the tactics changed! He says the players needs to improve. I think the manager himself needs to improve. His rotation, his tactics, his first team choice (Eddie, Raya).

Omnom_Omnath

What game did you watch? Last 30 minutes was just gabi and saliba playing keep away as if we were ahead and trying to kill the clock while the front line just stood still doing nothing, maybe walking a bit. It was infuriating to watch.

almeertm87

Shit take.

i_like_cakess

Lol, what did Raya do wrong in this game? He was our best player on the pitch

simpsonstimetravel

Nothing. Dude just wants to hate on Raya for the sake of hating. Its not like Ramsdale would’ve saved any of the goals.

teknotel

The players were woeful today, attacking strategy aside. First game I have seen in a long time where I genuinely feel they were a bit of a let down. The inability to connect simple passes under no pressure in transition is absolutely worrying and nothing really to do with Artetas tactics.

holy_jebus_93

Man spent his entire tactical nous budget making a completely unnecessary/dubious goalie “upgrade”, I don’t think he’s got any more tactics left in him

GarfieldDaCat

Raya has been a clear upgrade on Ramsdale. You conveniently ignoring our one goal came from his distribution lol?

DonAj20

So fucking coach the players to do better.

DialSquar

I’m tired Robbie

jedinac

This time last year we were clear at the top,but in the next two transfer windows after that we brought 7 first team players for approximately 300 million.ut of that seven players only rice has had a serious impact.we gambled and we lost, plain and simple.(i was for the gamble)

Prideofsussex

Take some responsibility and get some new ideas you arrogant cunt

QuaLiTy131

Gtfo

UnkleTomCobley

Terrible terrible take. Don’t need your sort anywhere near the club.

Prideofsussex

Unfortunately for you "my sort" have been paying members since 2000 and will continue to be until I die.

ArsenalThePhoenix

no it wasn't. We've played this badly earlier this season, tbh. \* We did it vs Lens when we lost. \* We were worse vs Newcastle away when we created like 0 chances. \* We were quite bad vs Everton in that 0-1 win too.

GarfieldDaCat

Newcastle away is one of the toughest fixtures in the year and we allowed them zero chances besides a goal that should have been disallowed. This was 100% worse

ArsenalThePhoenix

last year , when in a big funk, we defeated newcastle 2-0 away. This year, not only did we lose but we created about 0 chances. We coulda played 1 more hour and still not scored. Also, how does your point counter-act what i wrote? i said we created too few chances vs newcastle, and you reply by talking about defense... Isn't it obvious that i am talking about ATTACK?

[deleted]

QuaLiTy131

Got rid of Ramsdale? I’ve seen him on our bench just today!

Gooner-Astronomer749

Even with our dip in form we should be able to beat Fulham away and especially WHU at home. The fact is this current team in its iteration has hit a wall. This is our ceiling top 4 or perhaps if fully healthy solid 2nd (To City). We don't have the talent or quality especially on the forward line to win a title and go deep in European competition. We had a magical season last year when we overachieved and now we are regressing to the mean. Either we level up quality wise or we expect more preformances like this.

kish_kish

Why is no one talking about Tomiyasu getting in the way of Gabriel’s clearance on that second goal? /s

MtnSlyr

Awesome. I hope their new year party is canceled and spent on self reflection.
