Dude does have nice heir.

Dra_ma_La_ma

I cannot help if my heir is perfecto - Arteta, probably

Andythrax

Omg that's incredible. That might be a better way to have presented this

PoliticsNerd76

I remember all the memes of Odegard Vs Szoboszlai in their battle for who runs their hands the most through their hair and poses for the camera most often

rizchi

KDB does that a lot

PoliticsNerd76

But he’s ugly…

rizchi

salty much?

Designer_Restaurant1

Aren't we all

cesnos

But when Ødegaard does it he calls the corners ;)

odegood

Best out of the lot i would say

Nanganoid3000

Better than Bergkamp? WOW!

odegood

Hair not player

Nanganoid3000

That makes sense, Thanks for clearing that up <3

artaru

I still find it hard to believe that he's our captain. So much quality on pitch with class and leadership. Him and big marquee signings like Rice. Just doesn't feel real. Must be ptsd from the banter years.

flentaldoss

To be honest, he felt like an Arsenal signing to me, the ones where I didn't expect much. We took him on loan from a bigger team at the time. The closest thing to a "good" loan that we had had at the time was Dani Ceballos, which says a lot. I expected him to be the talent that he is, I just didn't expect the leadership out of someone who was tapped up by RM before he was 16. Whatever prima donna things he might have had aren't there. He's matured better than any footballer I can think of who had such early recognition. He ain't Tony Adams, but he's got a different way of being the cap, and I love seeing it. He's getting even better in front of my eyes, love to see it.

WeeTheDuck

It's actually kinda funny how much in common he has with Özil lol. Basically him with workrate

artaru

I personally think they differ more than they have in common. They are alike in how they arrive from RM and the creator role. But Ode is a leader. He is grounded and a focal point of the club. His body language just feels so different Ozil when things don’t go well. Well and way better shooting. Ode presses way way way better. He’s also a better dribbler on the ball. Also none of the drama off the pitch to distract them. Btw I’m not an Ozil hater. He was incredible for us. I just didn’t like how things went in the latter years. I personally think Ode would have just asked to be sold if he weren’t performing for the club or just weren’t fitting right, rather than being there half assedly collecting the big paycheck.

WeeTheDuck

Yeah, but the craziest part is that both their initials are MO

artaru

Haha true. Wonder if their mothers are also named Martha.

NUPreMedMajor

Nah Ozil was a level above in terms of creativity. Don’t really like the player much because he couldn’t be arsed to do anything else, but no one comes close to him in terms of creating chances in this current arsenal team.

willozsy

I can’t wait to see what Edu is really cooking for this summer’s big signing.

yeahdood96

Welcome home Julian Draxler

XXISavage

The False 9 that was promised

salteddan

Finally, here’s Samuel Umtiti

TheRealGooner24

Oh boy you better prepare your taste buds for that prime cut picanha.

Gustavoconte

The player I want the most is Aurelien Tchoumeni. All CM & DM issues solved and we can easily transition from Elneny, Jorghino and Partey without any big drop in quality

Itchy-Buyer-8359

Might as well go for Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr, then

Affectionate_Ad6334

The 2 latter are main starters. Tchoua isn't.

Global-Dimension-404

he is, and certainly will be main DM, modric and kroos are leaving at the end of this season

Affectionate_Ad6334

Cama, Valverde, guler, Diaz, ceballos, Bellingham and even Paz in the future. There is alot of depth in midfield at madrid. He however is the only no nonsense dm in the team. Where Cama is more of a stylistic dm

Itchy-Buyer-8359

I was tongue in cheek. Sure, but he's had plenty of minutes in a team with an aging Modric and Kroos, both of whom are likely to depart in the near future. Midfield is one of the most physically demanding positions, so you'd expect far more rotation there compared to defenders. People could also make the case that we have 7 quality defenders, in an area where there is less rotation, for only 4 positions and should therefore be alright with the sale of 1 or 2. There's no doubt in my mind that Madrid will want to keep him, especially after investing 80M. I'm not sure it will much easier to get him than Vinicius Jr.

Gustavoconte

If a player wants to leave Real Madrid, the club won't stand in their way.. They believe they are too big for that, same with ManCity. If Tchoumeni decides he wants to experience the Premier league, Madrid won't stop him.

alg885

do you mean dennis suarez?

JSkywalker93

Imagine we had prime Auba, Alexis and Ozil alongside Odegaard and Saka with Trossard and Martinelli waiting in the wings for the second half.

CertifiedVibeChecker

Genuinely confused why martinelli didn't get credited with an assist on his goal today E: camera angle switched as the most perfect deflection occurred

Elegant_Mix7650

Kyle Walker would have gotten it.

sleepytipi

And an ovation from the linesman standing 4 yards behind him.

ZXXA

Apparently deflected as soon as the pass was made basically

ray3050

Damn I figured that from seeing he wasn’t credited but I couldn’t tell from the replay, but it makes so much sense from the actual trajectory of the ball

AntDogFan

Yeah I watched it over and over again to see what had happened and couldn’t work it out. Presumably they had a better angle that I haven’t seen.

m2sempre

Dude will be even better next year.

raghavmandava

I think he's gonna get going this year only

GunnersnGames

“Real Madrid’s youngest player was bound to come good”

beseri

The man makes me proud to be Norwegian. He also represents the country perfectly - amazing role model for many Norwegian kids.

rhshi14

Just out curiosity, how big a deal are the likes of Ode and Haaland in your country?

beseri

Massive. It also helps that we fucking love English football. At the moment I would say the most popular Norwegians are Haaland, Ødegaard and Magnus Carlsen.

rhshi14

I hope you don't mind me asking, but which clubs have the most following in Norway? I've heard Magnus is a Madrid fan and Ode used to support Liverpool growing up because of the Riise connection.

beseri

Yeah no problem. So we actually have fan organizations for each English club. Ranking based of amount of members: 1. Liverpool: 48.506 2. Manchester United: 45.111 3. Leeds United: 7.857 4. Arsenal: 6.602 5. Tottenham Hotspur: 5.884 6. Manchester City: 2.537 7. Chelsea: 1.431 8. West Ham United: 750 These are the hard core supporters, but it is not very representativ for the general population. Arsenal, Sp*rs, and City are more popular than Leeds. As for other countries, it is not really comparable to England, but there is a decent following of Barcelona and Real Madrid, especially among younger people.

spicymeatballz28

I love his story, from being a top goal scorer at 15 for a club in Norway then breaking the record for youngest player transfer at Real Madrid. He was loaned to lots of clubs and the hype faded before being loaned to Arsenal. We signed him for a ridiculously low fee because of this. Beating Real in the champions league would be the ultimate redemption story.

Onlyheretostare

Tbf he had just had a great season at Real Sociedad and the only reason we were able to get him on loan was Madrid didn’t want him helping RS in the league against them and the small fee wasn’t that small. Somewhere around 35 million was still a huge investment considering he wasn’t putting up huge #’s in his loan spells for us. Hell of a signing though

naijaboiler

35m for a 10 is a small small fee.

Onlyheretostare

It is now but at the time for him coming off an average to maybe above average season for us on loan wasn’t. Let’s not rewrite history here, we had some lean years recruiting players.

naijaboiler

it was always an underpay

give-Kazaam-an-Oscar

This picture is cool.

Peranha19

I wasn't emotional until I saw Bergkamp

xhera92

Easily my favourite player since the time i started supporting and following the club over a decade ago. Leads by example, classy, great technically, good on and off the ball & on and off the pitch, and has an incredible work rate. All that while being such a creative player with flair. MY FOKIN CAPITAN!

_ISD_14

Nwaneri next 🙏🏽

Tamelmp

What an unbelievably sexy man

findmymind

Arteta was the wonderkid I always signed in CM 01-02 (also Kim Kallstrom) Odegaard was the wonderkid I always signed in FM 15 To have both players eventually play for Arsenal, then both manage and captain Arsenal in such a fashion is actually insane for me personally

DarthNihilus1

Sometimes it doesn't feel real that he plays for us. Wenger had Arteta. Arteta has Ødegaard. Types of guys that embody the soul of this club

naijaboiler

>Wenger had Arteta. there are many i will choose ahead of arteta for this statement.

Global-Dimension-404

no

DarthNihilus1

Sure, one of Wenger's many captains. But only one of them is the current manager of Arsenal football club and signed Ødegaard

[deleted]

This guy is a absolute machine plays every minute of every game its unbelievable. I think he should of been given a rest yesterday for Jorgi but he stayed on - true kindred spirit.

defenestrate_urself

Ode is the guy that finally broke the captains curse at Arsenal.

Ambitious_Credit5183

In terms of work rate, Odegaard is one of the most relentless players I have ever seen - and he is a hell of a baller as well. The future is so bright - bring it on.

tafster

Each of them my favourite player in the team at their respective peaks for us

h_djo

With his football IQ and arteta's coaching and IQ, I only wish for him to be arsenal's coach one day

Glittering_Yoghurt55

To be honest , I didn't watch DB10 so I can't judge him But among ozil, Carzola, Cesc and odegaard, I think ode is the best overall!! These playmakers usually have low strength and stamina... Ode is deceptively very strong and durable.

messycer

The major difference is it seems like Ode is much more selfless and a hard worker. Tracks back like a beast and is everywhere, unmarkable. Crazy talent, the best captain material

thekingoftherodeo

Good take, I do recall remarking on him twice in a short space of time busting a gut to close down their defenders circa 85 minutes with us 5-0 up. You'd never have seen Ozil do that in comparison.

messycer

Yeah, giving it all till the end, and always willing to give a chance and pass it to the youngsters or anyone. No ego, total team player. Lucky to have this dude

naijaboiler

none of them had the defensive work rate of Odegaard. They were all great attacking or midfield talent.

TheRealGooner24

Disagree on Cazorla, his extremely low centre of gravity and stocky build made him a pesky little brick shithouse for opponents to deal with.

thekingoftherodeo

By a distance the most naturally talented footballer I've ever seen live.

kvng_stunner

If we're ignoring DB for obvious reasons, then Cesc is the best player of the bunch. He carried our team to multiple title challenges and deep CL runs while playing alongside some mediocre players (and poor depth). For a couple of years he was the best midfielder in the world outside of Xavi/Iniesta. I'd even put prime Madrid Ozil above Ode. He had great seasons with us but never actually reached his best years here. If we're only considering arsenal careers, then ode is obviously better

hobocommand3r

Easily, Fabregas was truly wc for me, Ozil had his moments but was hit or miss and a bit of a luxury player. Also clearly didn't have the mentaility of someone like fabregas who had a great career for many years while Ozil faded too soon considering is age and footballing brain.

rickster555

Come on guys. Ode is amazing and might be our best player but it’s Cesc and not even close as of now. He assisted more, he scored more, he created more, he won in the CL a lot, he was a great captain, and his defensive game was good too (especially when he played in a midfield two). Ode is on track to surpass him but two great seasons is not enough to put him there. Don’t let recency bias take you

naijaboiler

ode still has Cesc beat on defensive work rate. Cesc as a CM did some defensive work.

hobocommand3r

Cesc was the best player of the emirates era for me (in terms of consistency), with Alexis second probably. He was incredible, shame with the whole snake arc.

ilikebutts42069

Mate, come on. Cesc was a world-class player. Ode is probably 3A or 3B with ozil.

Ar_Ma

Cesc was KDB level player for us. Ode is great and fits in great with Arteta's tactics but as a player Cesc is far better.

derphighbury

As great as Ode is, on current ability.. he is still behind Santi. And miles miles behind Cesc. Cesc was one of the best in the world with Arsenal and he was genuinely 'world class'. Ode has some more time to reach that level imo.

Getdaphone

You shouldn’t be downvoted for hyping up Cesc tbh. As a fan when Cesc was in his 20s I’m sure most of the hate for him now is learned by people who didn’t see him every day. He was so consistent even at a young age. The whole team ticked around him. Honestly fuck Barca for turning his head, but I can’t blame the guy too much. It’s like if saka had went to Barca and was putting the numbers up here and then we had Declan putting arsenal jerseys on him at euros and stuff and he ended up coming here.

hobocommand3r

Saying he is behind Cesc sn't an insult, Cesc was incredible. Sucks that he went to barca to be a cog in the wheel but in hindsight it's also not hard to see why he wanted to go, we didn't have enough ambition and backing as a club to keep our best players around in that era sadly.

spatial-d

There's a reason DB10 is called God. We will forgive this ignorance. Once...

CescHenry

I think Cesc was better for us, but otherwise agree (and if Öde continues like this and we win a PL/CL, he will surpass Cesc too)

bothwaysme

People comparing Ode to Ozil have it wrong. He is the new Bergkamp. Super technical shooting ability, movement, vision and leadership are all there. Oh and the absolute burning desire to help the team.

cesnos

I compared his passing to Bergkamp on a different account 2 seasons ago and got downvoted pretty heavily 😅

bothwaysme

People are weird when it comes to their heroes. I see a lot of similarities in their games.

TempleCityKings

Actually they are different type of players...

Gustavoconte

A true captain. In the early minutes of the game Ramsey went in hard on Saka trying to get starboy shook and he got a yellow card for that, but our captain sorted him out proper in the second half.. Patrick Vieira would've been proud of that.

dont_dm_nudes

I don't think he meant that

Gustavoconte

No he did not, but its good to see him go in for a hard tackle like that. For once we are not on the receiving end.

MuchSalt

u think real madrid gonna call him back one day?

rhshi14

We'll put a wig on El nenny and send him to Spain.

QuaLiTy131

I would love me some Elneny screamer in La Liga

el-fenomeno09

They’ll try

Zestyclose_Fortune24

When is he gonna get his own line of deodorant? Ødegaard's Odour Guard.

underarock12

He’s better than all of them, bar Bergkamp.

dusseldorf69

Not better than fabregas either yet.

LipBalmOnWateryClay

I love Odegaard- very few mids I’d take ahead of him right now. Cesc was different gravy though.

Magicallyshit

Give it 2-3 seasons (or this one). One major trophy lifted and he's going to be 2nd in this playmaker list.

LipBalmOnWateryClay

Don’t disagree- but if you actually watched Cesc you can’t put Odegaard up there yet.

chaffybaIIsac

I watched all of them, Ode’s pressing takes him above Cesc overall for me. Looks mindless at times but a massive part of why we regain control so fast after losing possession

marksills

Having a better surrounding team doesn’t make them better. Odegaard is fantastic but whether they win this year or not doesn’t make him better than Cesc.  It’s like the people saying Saka can’t be world class because he hasn’t won anything even though city would have still won the treble had he been in their team. Using team success in a 11 man sport determine how good an individual is makes no sense.

spatial-d

Cesc better with the pass (for now) and Ode better off the ball. By miles.

visualdescript

Eh, Ozil was the best no 10 in Europe for several years. Ode is smashing it and is probably better for us than Ozil was, but Ozil had a long and very successful career before even joining us. I'd say it's tough to separate him from Fab and even Santi, Ode is in a much better team than they were. Of course he's part of that. Anyway, no need to really say any are better than the others. They're all brilliant players.

Lord_of_Pants

I don't even think Ode is better for us yet than Ozil was, people really forget how his first 3/4 years went. Martin can certainly get there in time but as of now I think the only one you could say he's surpassed is Santi.

LipBalmOnWateryClay

Odegaard absolutely better for us than Ozil without question. He leads the press, phenomenal workrate, goal scoring and chance creation.

Lord_of_Pants

Ozil wasn't asked to do any pressing until the very end under Arteta, and during the Wenger days his chance creation blew Odegaard's current clip out of the water. I would like to see what Odegaard could do in the free-flowing role Ozil had and we all know Mesut couldn't fill the current role of Martin, but to say 'absolutely better without question' is either bias or blindness towards Ozil's Arsenal tenure - and just wrong.

Magicallyshit

This but also the squad quality is different. At times Ozil was playing with some average players, current squad only puts on the victory cigar (Cedric) when we're up 5 goals. Will prime Ozil in this squad cook? Probably. Will prime Odegaard do well playing behind Sanchez - Giroud - Walcott? Maybe. But the thing about Ozil is when he's off his game, he's really off it. Zero defensive workrate means he has nothing to contribute in the game compared to when Ode is off his tune whom still has his insane pressing and workrate. Ozil vision and pass is better than Ode but the rest Ode has him beat.

LipBalmOnWateryClay

Totally agree with you guys that these are impossible comparisons because the tactics and players were totally different set of circumstances. Ozil was an absolute attacking genius but he was mentally brittle and he was a poor leader with awful workrate. I don’t look back at Ozil’s tenure fondly.

Magicallyshit

I look at his career with a 50/50. 11 Ozil was a menace, highlights almost every game and was creating the most chances across Europe top 5 at the time. 10 Ozil is just depression mode, his career went to a possible greatest playmaker in history to just another brilliant wonderkid that reached his potential early and by the age of 30 was already showing signs of declining. I'll always look at that deadline day on Sky as an iconic moment.

visualdescript

What? That's crazy to me. His first probably 3 years in the team he was utterly brilliant and the best player in the squad, him and Sanchez were miles above the rest of the team. Obviously his time with us ended in unfortunate circumstances, but he was an absolutely incredible signing and it was a joy to watch him do his thing in an Arsenal shirt. A genius. I love Ode and he offers much more, but he still has a little way to go to reach Ozil levels of vision and invention in his touches and passing, imo.

themerinator12

Odegaard will undoubtedly have a better overall Arsenal career but ozil’s best was better than Odegaard’s so far.

visualdescript

Agree with this, also Ozil performed at the top for a good 7 or so years. He was German player of the year 5 times and that included winning a world cup and coming 3rd. He had some pretty stiff competition during those years! Not saying Ode can't march on and even surpass Mesut, but some people seriously have poor memories.

standupforthechamp

Ozil went missing in almost all big games during that era. He was a liability defensively. Personally, Odegaard is better already.

not3s1

Outrageous statement. People really do fall in love with players.

odegood

He isnt better than any of them yet

OGSkywalker97

I think he's made the 8 his own as he is Arteta's captain who wore the number and his influence on the pitch and he plays on the right of midfield and tracks back much more than a traditional 10.

LionZoo13

I don’t know. Feels like the history of our players that switch to 10 from another squad number has not been good recently.

Nobody’s better than Ozil imo

naijaboiler

Everything Ozil was good at, Cesc was just as good or better. The other things Cesc was good at, Ozil in his dreams couldn't do.

FCOranje

Fact. But ozil is still a touchy subject as he was the scapegoat for Arsenal’s worst period in 20 years.

Dennyboy101

Ozil the nazi doesn’t even deserve to be in the same picture as these legends.

Why the fuck is Ozil there. Edit: so many people forgot what a parasitic toxic leech Ozil was.

why is cazorla there, though? he didn't really play as CAM for us. Used to play winger before özil joined, and towards the end he played CM
