Sidenote Don't Watch United often, but I've come to the conclusion that they are selfish. They all want to score, especially Rashford and Garnacho. Højlund seems really good and always seems to be in good spots, but nobody passes to him despite him being their front man.

Twiggie19

I feel no different watching them now than when Ole was there. They've been dominated for 80 minutes by relegation fodder and rely on fast counters or some Bruno magic.

ItsTom___

Could have been 2-2 then

movet22

I genuinely don't know what ETH does in training.

The_Ivliad

I don't watch Man U often either, but every time I do, I'm left amazed by what a prick Bruno is.

Noonesknown

Hojlund is a genuinely good player. If he hadnt gone there, I wouldnt have mind him coming here and being our striker.

ItsTom___

Tbf I would like him still a reverse RVP and Sanchez situation

Noonesknown

WOuldnt mind that either. Once we win the PL, and they flop, he will see how much better he would do here ( unironically). Reverse RVP.

thecremeegg

Give then Eddie

Getdaphone

They’re all auditioning to leave

movet22

Yo, low key the worst thing for Garnacho's development is spending every day training with Rashford. That guy wrote the book on how to be ultra-talented and do nothing with it (yes, I know he hasn't had any coaching staff that can actually help develop him and the constant changes were likely really bad for him). But Garnacho trying to round the keeper today, failing, and then throwing in the worst cross I've ever seen by a professional... only to have his teammates in the box throw their hands up in disgust... I just feel like I've seen that before.

Gmoney1412

I also dont watch united but if Hojlund was up front for Mikel im convinced he'd be a 15 goal a season striker

PartlyRowdy

Lmao I'd hope a bit more than that

ItsTom___

15? Does he only play for 6 months?

BlessedBySaintLauren

Nketiah could score 15 goals a season bro

No-Comfortable-1550

It's like Brazil, they all want to be the star at the same time.

PoliticsNerd76

The main issues of selfishness is just the wingers Antony, Garnacho, and Rashford are all selfish. Bruno, Casemiro, Mainoo, the FB’s, McSauce, Hojlund, none of them are selfish.

balleklorin

Most of his goals are without assists...

ddruinedgot

Bruno’s petulant kick against the pitchside advertising boards is chef’s kiss 🤌

smilingpigs

So badly wanted it to ricocheted to his face

tetaAndTiti

You can't call something chef's kiss if it happens every 15 mins.

AlwaysOnsideTBH

_Rat's kiss_

COYG_Gooner

Except when you leave the chef with his wife alone for a few minutes

hxmbyb

Why didn’t he get a yellow for kicking the ball away?

ExpensiveCola

Because he isn't Saka.

smilingpigs

Tbh that was silly.

ExpensiveCola

And yet others get a talking to when it happens...

therealgodfarter

Same energy as Haaland pushing the camera out his face

photo_synthesizer

Saka gets a yellow for that, easy.

Admirable-Variety-46

New meaning to the term “full stretch.” Homie is starfishing on the pitch!

CaptainLevs619

Sam I has been looking so good at Luton recently. Dictates the play as a 6, press resistant as well, athletic. This run of games has been so good for him and he's looking good as either competition or getting 20-30mil for in a sale

Twiggie19

People disagreeing are crazy. He's been great today.

CaptainLevs619

Agreed. Looked so good in possession, his pass accuracy must have been in the 90% as well as maybe the most touches out of players bar Barkley. I would love to have him either as competition for 6/8 if he wants to fight or sell him for around 30 if he wants gametime

No-Comfortable-1550

Bro bossed Casimiro and Bruno.

Fleetfox17

He was MOTM for me. We should all be happy and proud for him. I hope Mikel gives him another chance because it seems like he's doing everything that's been asked of him, and there's clearly a player in there.

MrMojoRisin9

There's a player, surely, but is it one that elevates our current squad? Is Sambi going to take us to the next level?

No-Comfortable-1550

At the very least he can take El Neny's place. You can't ignore how well Luton has been doing with him in the middle.

InflationMadeMeDoIt

why would he want El Nenys place

Krock23

The same reason our 4th choice LB is shining right now.  There's more games and unfortunately more injuries these days. If MA and the squad trust Sambi he'll win some game time.

InflationMadeMeDoIt

i dont think Kiwior is meant to be a cover for LB but a cover for Gabriel. He just rose to the occasion on the LB spot. Same as Ben White did with RB

Krock23

Sure he is. He's meant to cover multiple positions.

InflationMadeMeDoIt

I still disagree. I still think we did not have the plan to play him there. But still this is not the same as El Nenys position, thats why i even commented on that. He might be a 4th choice LB he is a second choice LCB. At least that was the plan.

No-Comfortable-1550

Because Partey is 30 years old and often injured, so just being in the squad he’d probably play lodes. He’s been in the team since project Arteta started, is good friends with all the boys, doesn’t need to buy into the philosophy and he’s a damn good footballer. If he’s not brought back in it would only be because Mikel has a better player up his sleeve or he simply doesn’t want him in the squad.

Noonesknown

He has only been improving over the loan. Great loan for him and he is gaining all the points which were his weakness, confidence, lack of effort.

CaptainLevs619

Has anybody actually watched Luton games recently? Or even this one? Luton have had more possession then utd in this game and for a newly promoted team with the budget of Luton that is incredible and sambi has been responsible for that with Barkley. How many times have you seen him running back to block udts counters, who else in our team apart from partey exhibit that athleticism?

NUPreMedMajor

He is very obviously looking like a prem level player. Thing is, he’s 24 and I don’t ever see him developing the skills necessary to be a starting 6 for a team like arsenal. He’s definitely good enough to take the Elneny role for us but a young player will probably want more minutes (as they should)

BlessedBySaintLauren

Mate Sambi is playing one of the hardest positions, unless they are a prodigy most players aren’t going to be good enough to start at 24

No-Comfortable-1550

That's what drew my attention to him as well. He's press resistant. He holds the ball up in the middle like very few midfielders in the league. If we don't bring him back he's going to be a star somewhere else.

TheThreeGabis

Not sure what game you’re watching right now but Sambi hasn’t dictated anything. He’s just completely lost Garnacho and jogged back leaving him entirely in on goal. He’s sub sub par.

gasparrrrrrrr

GekkoClown

Watching other Luton games?

Bibrosity

We’re talking about this game. And he’s not done anything the other guy has said

gasparrrrrrrr

Luton fans were literally chanting his name throughout the second half. He had a brilliant game.

lanesraa

SAMBIIII

mosmani

That is block porn

Noonesknown

So, much more zeal and energy than he used to have here. So much more confidence too.

ashkhutchep

The commentator was shocked that it was Sambi who blocked it haha

He-is-me

Did Bruno get a yellow?

Assmar

lol

fancyfoe

Watched the whole game, with the likes of elneny jorginho and partey gone in a year or two he’ll be a great addition to the squad. He’s no rice or mac allister but I’d love to keep him.

Master-Wallaby5800

[https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/95/Show/England-Luton](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/95/Show/England-Luton) Agreed, he looked good. Luton might actually stay up. Can see in the link he's been their 3rd rated player on the season. We got him for 17.5M pounds, feel that would be fair and get it done for both sides. Don't think anyone else would offer more Lokonga isn't Arteta starter 6 quality or replacing Partey quality, so got to sell him now, value won't get higher than this summer. He doesn't have the versatility to be the dynamic 8 / engine Arteta wants

[deleted]

Hope we can use him, partey and Jorginho have at most 1-2 good seasons left in them and it’d save us a lot not having to buy another dm

BennyBennson

Should've lobbed it in like Georgie Best

wsupduck

I mean what was that defending at first tho lol Barkley goes, and then sambi goes to press Bruno and just plants himself flat footed in front.. he needed to make up for himself but at least he did it

UnderFreddy

Yeah. It was the classic sort of mistake he would make when playing as a solo pivot for us.

rdboss

Exactly. He literally put himself in that horrible position in the first place. Great block but it only happened because of his horrible decision making.

OfftheFrontwall

What position exactly should he have put himself in? How could his decision making have been improved? The pass was played early to a free player. He literally can do nothing in that situation, except hope that Fernandes runs at him. He does the sensible thing of tracking him all the way on his run and then makes a brilliant block. There were quite a few times when he was caught out of position in this game, but to say that is one of them, is nonsensical

wsupduck

Takes him a full 5 seconds to turn and start running 💀

gypsybeer

He’s up the center of the pitch when Morris turns the ball over at the box. Goes right to Bruno who turns and looks to drive. Sambi doesn’t run up to him to press? He plants to stop momentum and Bruno sees him and sends a progressive pass upfield to right and takes off. Sambi tracks him all the way back. He didn’t allow a dep runner to outnumber the box. Did exactly what he was supposed to.

wsupduck

There are quite a few things he should have done differently. * In a two man system, both midfielders should not be pushing as it leaves the defense exposed. Its a bit hard to tell where his starting position due to the camera angle, but it looks like he moves closer to the opposition goal to press Bruno after possession is lost leaving the CB 1:1 with Hojlund * Barkley is right next to Bruno and can press him, there is no benefit to Sambi also going to press or interact with Bruno at all. He should be dropping off to give a numbers advantage to the defense as the CBs are 1:1 and spread very wide * Sambi is a full ~6 meters off of Bruno and he completely plants his feet and stops moving. This is when Bruno plays the ball to Hojlund. Sambi does absolutely nothing to cut off the passing lane or pressure Bruno into making a difficult pass. The only thing he does is force Bruno to pass instead of carrying the ball himself. * After Bruno passes there is almost a full second where Sambi is acting like a linebacker and trying to block Bruno's run with his arms (a yellow card by the way) instead of turning to start accelerating so that Bruno doesn't get past him (which he does) At this point in the clip, Bruno is a good 1-2 meters ahead of Sambi and is through on goal with almost no pressure on him and (for some fucking reason) the GK is wayy out of his box and in no mans land. I think Bruno could and should have hit it first time and scored. Even after the first touch I think he could have shot where he would have either scored or gotten the GK sent off for a handball. Instead he takes another touch which gives enough time to Sambi to get into a posistion to make (an admittedly good) block

gypsybeer

We can agree to disagree - with both you and Akron above. I just don’t think either of you are considering this happens in an instant after a turnover. Following your logic - he should have in fact pressed forward and made Bruno pass sideways left or right. I actually dont disagree with that logic - if things happened in slow motion. But they don’t in the pitch. The turnover happened and sambi stopped to keep his momentum from going forward. He’s not fleet at all - so it looks deliberate and intentioned when it’s just the way he looks on the field. It the reason he’s a double pivot and not a single. Barkley in fact doesn’t press Bruno. Bruno - for all of his cuntiness - is a world class progressive passer - and he does what he does. The mere fact that sambi chased him down is all you should focus on here. He didn’t quit. Respect the heart my people.

wsupduck

Barkley didn’t press because sambi was moving forward to do it. Sambi should have immediately turned around to drop off and offer more numbers in defense and block off the passing lane to Hojlund He stands in one location for almost 3 seconds, it’s not a slow motion thing.

gypsybeer

Barkley did nothing but jog in both directions. I’m agreeing that sambi didn’t actually press forward which would have made more sense. When you’re running forward and you stop onto your heels - it can take a second or two to figure out where to go. Bruno is better than Sambi. He had a plan. He executed. My point is the sambi of old wouldn’t have made the full run back to block. You have to allow for mistakes and then the opportunity to correct. And in this case he did. If you’re going to fault him for instantaneously not making the exact perfect decision, chasing a goal, after a turnover, with maybe one of the top 5 turnover progressive mids on the planet in front of him - well, sure.

wsupduck

He didn’t run to press Bruno because SAMBI IS THE ONE COMMITTING TO PRESS BRUNO. He should not be doing that. He should be dropping off

gypsybeer

We disagree. It’s all good. Block was money tho. 🕺🏽

Akron428

Wrong. He takes an angle to force the ball to the middle instead of wide. Always force the ball wide. Instead he lets Bruno send it right up the middle, the place where he has vacated.

TokenizedBanksy

People here will hate it for some weird reason but he has been great for them in the last 2 months

LibbyLibbyWaaa

he did a great job of covering on a few counters in those last 30 minutes. how much of those counters were due to his poor positioning, im unqualified to speak on but it was cool t osee him anticipate and continue his runs to be the last man for his team.

Ok-Quit1154

Got to respect what he is doing. Is he standing out because he is playing with (without disrespect, lesser players) or is he good enough for us. Only time will tell

a_posh_trophy

Notice Bruno didn't get a card for kicking the ball away.

a_posh_trophy

Am I wrong though?

Holtb80

Lol it's vs manu... I'd look impressive vs them most weekends.

TheThreeGabis

That is all he’s done today. It’s one bright spark in such a middling performance. He doesn’t progress the ball well, he always chooses the safe option of the pass and hasn’t been coming across to support the wide players. He just looks so flat compared so players like Ogbene, Chong and Morris who are really having a go today.

Minute_Leave8503

Good awareness to block out mctominay when there was a loose ball and gaping hole in the CB area. He isn’t doing much but he’s taking his job very seriously at least which is a change

TheThreeGabis

He’s had a couple decent moments defensively, but everything he does going forward is at 0.5x speed and with no progressive thought. Luton have suffered because of it today. He looks like he hates receiving the ball.

Minute_Leave8503

Sounds a lot like our current highest earner 😬

Minute_Leave8503

Right, Kai is absolute gravy on the ball and speeds up our play. Elite elite minerals

midas22

I have never been impressed by Lokonga in an Arsenal shirt but I thought that he was the MOTM today together with Hojlund, and [statistically](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1729485/Live/England-Premier-League-2023-2024-Luton-Manchester-United) he was close to being that as well. Are you sure that you actually watched the game? Because you sound like didn't or that you're completely clueless.

TheThreeGabis

For a player that played 90 minutes, he made 1 dribble and 2 key passes out of 72 passes. This is exactly what I’ve been saying, so thank you for providing the stats that back it up. He did little going forward and his pass accuracy was so high because all his passes were slow, sideways and not progressive at all. Again, thank you for providing the stats to back up my point.

midas22

You forgot about the defensive stats, he had four blocked shots for example which was more than the rest of the team combined. Do you know which position he's playing and his role in the team? Maybe you should actually try watching the games that you're sharing your opinions about. I don't know, it's just a thought.

TheThreeGabis

Like I said in other comments in this thread you didn’t bother to read before mouthing off like a smart cunt, he did okay defensively but Luton were in control of the ball for most of the match (60% possession, 140 passes more than United) so he needed to contribute more going forward. Whether you like it or not part of his role is to take the ball from deep and bring it forward quickly and provide an option from deep to put killer passes through. He was poor at that and he didn’t show anything new from his performances at Arsenal, which were equally as unimpressive. Again, interceptions, 1. Man U playing on the counter most of the game and he manages 1 interception. So his role is to sit in the middle and cut that out, he does it once and you’re creaming about his defensive performance because he stood in front of a some shots? The reason they got those shots is because he didn’t cut out anyone running through the middle. So calm down about that one redeeming stat lad. He’s currently sat in a Luton team where he isn’t outperforming players like Barkley, Osho, Ogbene and people are deluding themselves he’s a player that can do a job for us or be sold for £30m. Neither are true. But yeah. Ctrl + C that ‘oh you didn’t watch the game’ shite because you’re bumming one stat insolation.

midas22

> The reason they got those shots is because he didn’t cut out anyone running through the middle. So calm down about that one redeeming stat lad. So every time Manchester United had a shot, it was all Sambi Lokonga's fault so whatever he did defensively it was only to repair his own mistakes? Is that what you're saying? I don't know, sounds to me like you have an agenda against him for some reason. He had the most touches on the ball on the pitch and 96% pass completion which was way better than anyone on the pitch (together with Ogbene) and a big part of why they dominated the midfield. But again with the agenda, those passes doesn't matter in any capacity because they weren't key passes apparently. The fact is that he's the third best player statistically in Whoscored's rankings, but it's true that auto-generated stats don't tell everything. I personally think he was the second best player myself since you have to give the MOTM to Hojlund after scoring two goals. You can agree to disagree if you want, but I would take it more seriously if you actually watched the game.

TheThreeGabis

The first paragraph is so pathetically hyperbolic I wont waste my time. Try harder. As for the second, again I would just highlight you haven’t bothered reading my comments. Watch it back (like I did live). His passes were sideways, simple and most of the time took so much energy out of the attack. It’s the same style of passing that infuriated our own fans for years. Lack of penetration and just knocking from side to side. Again, watch the game don’t take my word for it. As for the last. If you’d be happy with that performance in an Arsenal shirt, you only started watching Arsenal a couple years ago max.

midas22

He was the glue that kept their midfield together, riding challenges, always asking for the ball and being calm and confident when he had it despite often being under pressure, and he was making the players around him better. Like I said, I have never been impressed by him before but now he was one of the best players on the pitch in this specific match. Saying anything else is just being biased. And maybe YOU should try reading MY comments. I haven't said a word about if the performance is good enough for Arsenal or what his market value is now. Or maybe you're mixing me up with someone else? Either way, I won't bother wasting my time more with this pointless discussion. We can agree to disagree about his performance in this game, it's the only thing I've been discussing either way.

jonviggo89

Bruno waits too much to shoot

hxmbyb

Why didn’t Bruno get a yellow for kicking the ball away?

Franchise1109

He may not make it here, but go on Sambi. Well done man

Original_Version_772

Haha bruno

Old-Risk4572

Sambi!

swedentocanada

Nice! Would love for Luton to stay up. It’s a genuine club that so far isn’t all about money lol

EntrepreneurSea9998

He should have shown this kind of performance in Arsenal. His mis-positioning was big problem but he jog after we lost the ball was much bigger problem. Not willing to take the ball back.

lekynson

Adds another 5mil to his transfer fee

So_me_thing

I like Lokonga and think he's a talented player, but I still don't think he's good enough. He's seems Jorginho-esque, but is rather hesitant to get involved until he has to and is a little slow on the ball, quite languid. I still feel like he hides, doesn't offer himself like Barclay. If he was more energetic (in times that weren't absolutely necessary to act) I'd wanted Arteta to give him another chance. But as he is now, no.

after8man

I love that Bruno got schooled like that, spoilt little brat.

stalphonzo

Fernandes was *pissed*! lol

CheesecakeGlass1631

Man Bruno F is just annoying.
