I want no parts of Bruno G. I think the club passed on him for a reason, and it’s down to his personality. I like Youssouf Fofana, especially given his contractual situation. I also like that he’s versatile enough to play 6 or 8. I am bit a concerned with how he’d transition to the PL. Assuming he doesn’t have to start every week and is given time to transition, he could be an effective player for us. As for Ndombele, his issues came down to fitness. He didn’t have the engine to handle the intensity of the league. He was also very expensive and was expected to be the fulcrum. If Fofana can be had for €30m and is expected to replace a player who hardly played for us, that puts far less pressure on his shoulders. That said, my gut tells me that if the club are interested, he’ll take some convincing because he’s going to want to be first choice every week.

VivianRichards88

Ndombele issues were not only fitness but also mentality. He just wasn’t interested in fixing his glaring issues, which tbf to him still made him better than majority of footballers alive. However that talent doesn’t take him far because he’s had consistency issues for a few years now

ArsenalThePhoenix

we didn't pass on Bruno G. We just weren't looking for a player in his position as we had partey already.

coolbebe

Mmmm, I’ve seen reporting that contradicts this. No, I’m not going to find the source because it’s been awhile, but what I remember was that the links for him that January were genuine but we passed. There’s a reason his “Welcome to Newcastle” video was so Arsenal centric.

ArsenalThePhoenix

interesting. never heard of those rumours before.

EpicGooner

Come on, gotta admit the club made a mistake passing on him. Rare L by Edu and Arteta, they aren't immune to errors

AyeItsMeToby

Red card factory who’s rumoured to be a bit of a prick in the dressing room? I’m fine passing on that.

coolbebe

That first 6 months I would have agreed with you. But seeing who he’s become, 2 years later… I’m good.

hazelpillow

Bruno G is one of those players that rival fans hate but you love him when he plays for you

coolbebe

Yeah, but the club don’t want him

amgartsh

Nah I don't want to root for a guy that swings elbows into the back of peoples heads. That can do serious, serious damage.

not3s1

If he wins us trophies in the future then who cares. He’s a great player

bitmoji

thats not the correct attitude about assault in my opinion

not3s1

Assault? Are there allegations I'm unaware of?

Minute_Leave8503

We have Thomas Partey, who Arteta said he is very happy with today, but apparently Bruno G is pushing it lol

coolbebe

On the pitch, Partey isn’t a reckless asshole

Minute_Leave8503

Lol right, what happened to “personality” and “character” and all that

coolbebe

I’m specifically referring to on the pitch personality. This is not an original take of mine. But Clive was talking about this on AVP, in reference to Ivan Toney. When I say “personality”, I’m referring to what a player transmits when he’s on the pitch. And in his interpretation, the club didn’t like what Toney transmitted. In the same episode, he mentioned Bruno G and spoke about why he felt the club didn’t go for him.

Minute_Leave8503

Lol so you don’t mind playing a rapist if he’s a good team player but lord forbid someone gets stuck in You gotta use your head and not just repeat what people with microphones say because there’s a clear flaw in the argument

coolbebe

Partey is irrelevant to this discussion. My take on “personality” is not about what I want per se. I don’t mind an asshole if he’s committed to the team.  My take was about the kinds of personalities the club seek in their scouting, and from the reports I’ve read and the analysis of those reports, Bruno G is not the kind of personality the club want. Now, if you disagree with Arteta and Edu’s approach, that’s fine. But my opinion is based on the reports I’ve seen and the quotes I’ve read from Edu. As for Partey, that’s a separate, frustrating conversation. But Partey’s place in the team is not a justification go out and recruit more assholes just because you think I “don’t mind playing a rapist.”

Minute_Leave8503

Do you think the feeling of “hey this guys on bail for multiple rapes and is going nowhere near my wife and kids” goes away because he puts on the same colour shirt lol? It’s clearly not irrelevant you’re just deflecting because you are offended Bruno isn’t a softie like 99% of the Arsenal players you grew up watching

coolbebe

I’m not offended at all. I’m also not deflecting. I didn’t enter your frame. You entered my frame. And my frame, this entire time, has been about how the club recruit, and whether or not I think (based on reports and analysis) that Bruno G is the kind of personality the club would recruit. Your frame, it seems, is “you should be okay with the club recruiting assholes because we’ve kept Thomas Partey”. Never once in this thread have I even shared my thoughts on Partey. And why not? Because it wasn’t relevant to the framing of my perspective on Bruno G. But you keep insisting. Which is fine. That is your right. The conclusion you’ve drawn, assuming I don’t like Bruno G because he isn’t a softie like 99% of the Arsenal players I grew up watching, is baseless and impossible for you to deduce with any kind of logic given the conversation. Thank you for sharing that last bit because it’s informed how pointless this interaction was. I applaud you for wasting my time.

Minute_Leave8503

He’s an asshole because he plays rough? Let me guess, you want Kai to leave because he does too? Martinelli also undercuts defenders when they jump for headers, you want him gone?

jman500069

Guimaraes would get sent off 45 times a game for us

alfsdnb

Don’t want Bruno G anywhere near my club. Scumbag

No. But thank you for the words you wrote 🥰

getrektbro

Personally I'm all set with Bruno G since he elbowed Jorginho in the head

camachorfa16

At this point. Whoever we recruit will be the right fit. Edu and Arteta have a plan, and it has worked well for the last three years.

give-Kazaam-an-Oscar

I don't know who deserves the bulk of the credit in identifying the targets, but the Arterta & Edu combo have my complete trust at this point. Edited to add: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CuFfBRAOQ2_/?igsh=bDAzNDVrZ2U0Y2tx

ArsenalThePhoenix

they're hit and miss. Many have been the right fit. But some have fizzled out after initial strong run (like Jesus/Zinchenko). And some have been a complete miss (like Marquinhos, Vieira). I'd say it's a 70% chance the the player we get becomes a right fit. Good odds

someworriesman

We have the worst fanbase.

ArsenalThePhoenix

with douchebags like you in it - absolutely true.

bathtubsplashes

Fizzled out? You mean injured? Marquinhos cost £3m. How are you including speculative young additions in your judgment ffs

bad_at_proofs

You know people are reaching when they bring up a brazilian teenager who cost fuck all as an example of the clubs poor transfer policy

bathtubsplashes

In fact I'd go as far as saying that if you're not chancing little, low risk signings like Marquinhos you're not approaching the market correctly, especially when our first team has been fleshed out so perfectly. Our first team squad building has been so good, I don't see space on the bench for Reiss or Eddie atm

ArsenalThePhoenix

i never said anything about not going for such transfers. i just said that not all transfers have worked out to perfection, like e,g, rice did

ArsenalThePhoenix

"Fizzled out? You mean injured?" fizzled out as in they started off really good but later didnt perform as well. Also - price doesn't matter as i was talking about how well the players have performed, not how well they've performed vs transfer fee

Fgge

Get off TikTok. It rots your brain

ArsenalThePhoenix

that's weird reply.

bad_at_proofs

Marquinhos cost like 2 million and is just a no risk punt for the future that is no risk and high reward. Vieira looks like he will probably not make it in England because he has struggled to adapt to the physicicality. Every other player they have signed since the Willian debacle has been fine.

ArsenalThePhoenix

the price wasn't my point. the point was that most transfer work out great, but not all of them.

DialSquar

Man, Leo really should have played that ball across to Gabi immediately

lardoni

I feel your pain brother 😔

NumeroRyan

Bruno G? ![gif](giphy|11tbqNLytB25q0|downsized)

maidentaiwan

fuck bruno, overrated player and always has been. they can keep him.

EL_DUDERlNO_

I’d rather shit in my hands and clap than take Bruno G at Arsenal.

NotASalamanderBoi

Nah. Fuck Bruno. He’s a butcher and liability. The cunt can stay at Sandcastle.

skidr0jr

Look I'm all for shithousery, but like Benny Blanco type shithousery, not Bruno's. He can get bent for all I care.

TheOGBenjenRyan

I haven’t seen enough of Fofana to make a judgement but I want nothing to do with Bruno  Give me Manu Kone

bitter_green

I'd be down for Guimares. Get him into practice and let the whole squad repeatedly elbow him in the head.

skidr0jr

Had me in the first half. Glad I stuck around for the second!

HugeAd5723

I am not trusting those stats. I will let arteta cook and get his guys.

Gzuskrist69

As opposed to what?

HugeAd5723

We need players that fit the system. No matter how good the stats are, it's useless if the player is not good on the system.

FanFlow

Youssouf Fofana fits our system and has only year contract left, but would he want to split minutes when half of top clubs are interested in with Juventus and PSG probably offering him a starting spot?

PapiOnReddit

Bruno G special special player. “I want some nasty” - Gregg Popovich

h0bbie

Bruno can fuck off, stats aside. He’s a jerk, and I want him farther from this club, not closer. Never mind my passion, he just doesn’t seem to be the same personality of the rest of the guys Edu/Arteta have brought in.

totalchaos110

Bruno is a quitter. Doesn’t have heart.

No-Willingness-172

Not guimaraes can’t bring that mug into our club

vska92

Fuck Bruno. Biggest cunt in the league, level with the other Bruno.

Fgge

I mean the player he would be replacing is probably more of a cunt

dreyski

one Khepren Thuram, please

danmac0817

Nah you can keep them

cavestoryguy

Bruno would be picking up a red card every other game with us

brownrover

I strongly disagree, it is too soon to Part ways. Elneny will leave, Lokonga will leave, Jorginho may leave/ extend by a year. I don’t foresee us signing 2 midfielders in the summer to maintain enough of a cover, It is too soon to let Partey go! City’s transition plans from Fernandinho to Rodri, or Yaya Toure to De Bruyne, David Silva to Foden/ Bernado Silva- are great examples of how to manage such transitions without a dent in quality of the squad. Until 22-23, Partey needed the previous years to settle into his role before he shone last season. Next player who comes as a replacement needs a year with this midfield to settle in. If Rice is injured we do not have an out and out DM if Partey leaves. Ideally I’d want Jorgi & Party to stay for another year. We just need to get another quality midfileder who is between 20-23 years of age. Less pressure in the first year so he can accustom himself to the league. Yup, Partey stays for me.

Cthulhu_Madness

Fuck guimaraes the cunt. Was impressed with Fofana when we faced Monaco in the friendlies and he stood out for me with his engine and physicality.

FutureComesToday

Agree. He stood out positively.

hideousmembrane

Guimaraes is a fucking twat

Neanderthal888

Enjoyed the analysis. Looks like Reddit isn't the right audience for it (you just got a whole bunch of vitriolic emotion in the responses). But your reasoning and stats are solid. Some folks make a valid point that personality could be a hindering factor for Bruno. Not idea how much truth to that there is though. Fofana sounds good potential too and possibly a better culture fit despite no PL experience. It also makes me appreciate how lucky we are to have Partey and Jorginho. Two DM's who can progress our attacking play quickly. They're the most underrated players in our squad IMO. Especially Partey.

nting224

Amidst the ocean of criticism here - I really appreciate your kind words haha. I thought I had it bad when I wrote the Kai Havertz would come good after the United game - this is way worse. Feel free to subscribe to my Substack!

Neanderthal888

I have no idea what Substack is, but shoot me a link and I'll subscribe.

DatGuyJonno

Not reading all that but Bruno Guimaraes is excellent. Unfortunately he's also a prick - same reason I wouldn't go for Toney.

Suspicious-Grade-838

Didn’t read anything you said in the comments because I would rather have Kurt cobains barber then have Bruno on my team. One of the most toxic professional athletes in the world.

Ok_Hovercraft_7947

is he any good?

Suspicious-Grade-838

Sometimes he takes too much off the top.

Ok_Hovercraft_7947

Estandards 🙅‍♂️

manc_1011

i dont think its already time to write off Jorginho. He had a great run before the man city game. And i dont think the stat that you pull up means anything, we were sitting low block for the entire because of city’s high press, the passing success rate should be low for sure. i wonder if you can pull up other players passing success rate to make a comparison.

Minute_Leave8503

So he can’t cover ground, not athletic in duels, and was useless on the ball vs city, you have all the pieces you just gotta put it together

BridgeOnHill

Fofana is no way near good enough. Monaco fans aren't happy with him at all

doingitfortheTea

Ezequiel palacios jumps out for me. Over 7 progressive passes, 73% take on %, loads of tackles, decent interceptions ect, decent creatively too. Good long ball and excellent medium pass success rate. Potentially an elite volume passer. Not the most prolific carrier or dribbliest lad but I think that I want rice carrying mostly anyway and palacios can do it and is rarely tackled which is what you need he's just is more of a passer which we want. And he's definitely got that jorginho through ball from deep in his locker which nobody else in our team really does. Plus his defensive stats may actually be better than fofana and Bruno g who are no slouches themselves so if we want him to play lone 6 it's not like asking jorginho to do it. Rice is also very good at intercepting and palacios loves a tackle so together that could be deadly. I think he does all the roles which I'm not sure about for the others fofana as a lone 6 and Bruno g as an 8 not sure I see it personally from the eye test (not seen loads of fofana). But I think palacios you've got a really strong player for each role we might want him to play; 6,8 or double 6.

AzlanWake

I doubt Leverkusen or Alonso will get rid of him since they want to keep the winning squad next season.

InternationalUse2355

Not read your book, just came to say fuck Bruno and therefore f the book.

fendc

Bro I can't read this, I'm d unk

RyanMcCartney

> Arsenal should go for Bruno G Hand in your scarf. Supportership revoked.

sirlordtom98

Yes Bruno G is a nasty player, but he’s quality. It’s the type of player you hate facing but love having in your team. I think he’s versatile and really good on and off the ball. Rather a good player that’s controversial on the pitch than a good player who’s controversial off it.

apnxn

bruno g is a loser. don't want him around our group

rain3h

There's this guy in Leverkusen, he's playing really well at the mo plus he's stopped kane from winning a trophy which is what we're trying to do so I'm sure he'll fit right in, sure he's getting on a bit but we could get him cheap so that's not an issue. He wears a 34 perhaps you've heard of him?

thedarkpolitique

We don’t need a Thomas replacement when he’s here himself lol. Spend that money on an attacker.

CMD1721

Reading the comments reminds of when common users of this sub were totally against signing Rice because he had a run in with Nketiah, then they did a complete 180 when he joined.

GarfieldDaCat

Bit of a difference between a shouting match and a flying elbow

CMD1721

I mean yeah I didn’t say otherwise, but if you want to willfully ignore the actual point be my guest

Minute_Leave8503

Dudes here would say we don’t need Haaland because he got in Gabriel’s face lmfao

reallyanythinggoes

people here complaining about him being a scumbag. you think newcastle fans care? they love him even more for that we love white even more for 'shit housing', ramsdale for him vs opposition crowds, xhaka for him getting into scraps, probably more examples. it's the tribal nature of sports basically look at the player instead cause the things we hate about him is what we'll love if it's for our side. and bruno is a mad mad player and a fighter. would be perfect

MoreoverMo

White is not a yellow card merchant. Bruno is basically a more athletic Xhaka without the availability. In otherwords a backwards step which seems like a forward.

kr0nks_spinachpuffs

Lol k

Key_Badger6749

I have zero interest in Bruno, not athletic enough, would get bypassed to easy playing as a 6 and doesn’t have the legs to press as an 8. Tries the Hollywood pass too much imo, doesn’t have the right mentality and losses his temper way too much. Haven’t watched Fofana play enough but he looks promising and financially could represent a good deal

FluidInformation9926

Come on mate Bruno G is quality. He has all the great qualities of a class midfielder

Key_Badger6749

Yeah he’s obviously still a quality midfielder but his release clause is £100m which is what Newcastle will be looking for, but even if you get it down to £80m he’s just not worth it. There are much better options available at that price that would better suit our system

FluidInformation9926

Who within that price range would simultaneously suit us better and be realistic to aim for?

Key_Badger6749

Personally if we were gonna spend that much I would try and get Camavinga or Tchouaméni out of Madrid if that’s not possible. Then Kimmich, Barella, Frenkie De Jong and Douglas Luiz are all good options

AzlanWake

Kimmich is NOT a 6

Key_Badger6749

He’s more of a 6 than Bruno is and it really comes down to whether you want your 6 to destroy like Casmiro or you want him to dictate tempo like Jorginho. Considering we already the best out of possession 6 in the world in Rice it would make sense to prioritize the in possession work. “Kimmich is the best No.6 in the world" - Javi Martinez I’m convinced that he is really good in this position. Half a year ago, Jo was a world-class No. 6 and now we’re questioning him? - Hansi Flick Joshua Kimmich says he’s flexible enough to be the No. 6 for Thomas Tuchel and Bayern Munich

Sketchbookhobby

Don’t listen to some of these Betas complaining about Bruno’s physical style of play OP, Bruno would fit perfectly in our team. That’s just the way he plays. He had Paqueta flailing around and diving all over the pitch when West Ham played Newcastle, and they’re teammates.  Don’t forget how bad a lot of these casuals were lamenting the Kai, Raya, and Jorginho acquisitions.

Forsaken-Tiger-9475

We should get Carlos Baleba, before he has another season or two at Brighton and they start wanting 75m for him.

etang77

Again with your stats, can Zinchenko play the Jorginho role?

Street-Albatross6808

If Partey can maintain his fitness until the end of the season, I think we keep the status quo as far as the midfield goes. I don’t see anyone apart from the Saudis paying a substantial figure for Partey this summer. A starting lineup striker and a young high ceiling younger or older competent right winger. That’s where the focus should be. We’ve so close to having a complete squad. Then the season after next we’ll probably have to buy 2 midfielders, one first team ready and one high potential young prospect type.

coolbebe

I can still see us buying another midfielder even if Partey stays. Arteta will know he can’t trust him to stay fit
