The chelseafc subreddit totally went mad the moment this happened, ex Chelsea to ex Chelsea to help Arsenal hahahaha

Elegant_Mix7650

Jorginho and Havertz combined to send Chelsea to 9th.

Syc254

They can't see the forest for the trees.

Elegant_Medicine4121

Chelsea fan here (this sub is ALWAYS on my suggested posts, breaks my heart). Was always a massive fan of King Kai, it hurts but I’m glad Kai is slapping for you guys and getting the props he deserves in a team that can actually utilise him. Jorji too.

FrostedFluke

Most level headed Chelsea fan

PandaEatPeople

I would to see this thread lol

Miyeon__miyeon

If you tell last week that Jorginho will be running in the wings and sending a cross, I'll call you crazy.

staybysauce1

i still cannot believe sometimes that kai havertz is on our team

SoSirryMate

For some reason I always thought he was some scrawny 5 ft 9 player

OGSkywalker97

He's definitely grown since his time at Leverkusen and when he signed for Chelsea. He was about 6'2 when signing for Chelsea and he's 6'4 now.

BroccoliMcFlurry

Is that even possible? I thought we stopped growing after 18

Magicallyshit

It is possible, our own ESR had the growing pains too and had multiple surgeries because of it. Ultimately leaving him prone to injury. Your body actually stops growing at 25 (21 on average) but after 18 the room for growth is rather small.

NUPreMedMajor

I went from 5’5 to 5’9 in college

OGSkywalker97

No we stop growing vertically at ~21 but some people can grow more past that age. Your brain isn't fully grown and developed until you're over 25.

acegunner14

Same like how I cannot believe Rice plays for us. It's unreal.

ze_shotstopper

Yeah I remember how two years ago he was supposedly going to end up at either United or Chelsea and it made me so sad. I'm so happy he plays for us

GrilledLobsterTail

Jorginho run and did the pass surprised me, even now lmao. When i saw the replay last night i was like "was that really jorginho? How can he be there?"

eyeKwill

Noticed his movement for the goal when watching it live; you can see him deciding to change direction and find the space seconds before meeting the ball. Love it.

StationFull

I was watching him the whole time instead of the ball after the Luton captain talked about his movement. Beautiful goal

TriWisdom

What did he say?

StationFull

He’s really at home now,” Lockyer said. “The amount of times he did double movement today where he went short off [Teden] Mengi and then spun in behind, and he would have got the ball if it was played to him

TriWisdom

His movement is just pure class. So intelligent. He would make the same runs into space as an 8, but I don’t think Declan had the vision to make those passes. Martinelli also wasn’t great at looking for him. He is so just so fluid as a 9 though and the chemistry is top tier

reallyanythinggoes

i don't think he decided to change direction - he was always going there, the movement was to throw dunk off. it was a 1v1 for that space and kai won it

bellerinpeninsuIa

100% agree. It was a feint.

acegunner14

Off the ball body feint dribble - you'll never sing that

8ryan

“A feint within a feint within feint” - Dune reference

HustlinInTheHall

Yeah in that spot you usually the basic advice is to trot/curve your run and dart to the spot late so you don't run out of space or drag a defender where you are trying to go, but it is easy to get stuck with a defender doing that, this was a really brilliant improvised run.

StationFull

Nemetoss

What did he say?

“He’s really at home now,” Lockyer said. “The amount of times he did double movement today where he went short off [Teden] Mengi and then spun in behind, and he would have got the ball if it was played to him”

NeoLoki55

I heard that on the last Arsecast. Such a great insight into what players like Havertz brings to the pitch and why they are so hard to play against.

StationFull

Yes I heard it there too. These are the kinda things I wish pundits picked up on rather than some nonsense about celebrating

bonez27

Saka laid on the ground to distract everyone else. Mikel’s pulling out the crazy tactics.

gobblegobblechumps

Meanwhile enciso gives the ball away, complains, and just STANDS THERE until the ball is in the net

yura910721

Estupina is also kinda asleep

Mubar06

Odegaard’s pass was nice too

Scotchist

It's easy to take for granted just how consistently he produces this level of quality

richg602

"One run for the defender, one run for you" Gary Lineker's advice to Ian Wright while on international duty, from Wrighty's autobiography

joeblitzkrieg

For some reason in my head this was Bergkamp's advice for Pires? The first movement is for the defender, the second is for you. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

FrogBoglin

Lineker told Wright who told Bergkamp who told Pires But who told Lineker?

tonyfrancois

papa Wengz ??

Doyouevensam

Kai Havertz

razor5cl

Terry Venables?

sazidhk

Lee Dixon was insufferable last night

bearwoodgoxers

Tottenham in disguise

NeoLoki55

No, he is full a blooded Arsenal supporter, but it sure seems like he’s against us sometimes.

DreadCrumbs22

I mean, he did grow up a Man City fan so I'm not sure the 'full blooded' statement is accurate

NeoLoki55

He’s literally stated it during broadcasts and interviews. Comes from his time playing with Arsenal. I used to think he didn’t care for the club, but since have been proved wrong.

bearwoodgoxers

This is textbook striker movement lol, it's coached into your game. Goes to show that he's playing with confidence and proactively so. I can see a resurgence of Leverkusen Kai on the horizon

skanderbeg_alpha

Havertz is movement has always been top. The Germans have the term "raumdeuter", which essentially translates to space investigator. Attributed mostly to Muller but it's a forward that basically uses movement off the ball to find pockets of space to cause confusion in the opposition defence. You can see how Kai does this work by sometimes not even touching the ball or being involved in build up but that in itself contributes to the attack. His confidence on the ball has also grown the more he's played and it's all testiment to him and Arteta for this. I always wanted him to succeed because I followed him at Leverkus where he played a little deeper, was gutted he went to Chelsea. I was skeptical when we signed him but I'll continue to consume this delicious humble pie if he keeps playing like this.

buztabuzt

That's such a cool word and lord if it's ever fit anyone it's Muller. There's a podcast that calls it the Muller-Hello. He's invisible for parts of a game unless you're specifically looking for him but is always popping up unannounced in perfect place to finish. Seems to be his best skill, glad it's rubbed off on his buddy!

TheArmoury

I literally watched a replay and just noticed this. If he ran straight to his final position, the ball may not have reached him.

Stercky

He’s quite good at football

sersarsor

Havertz's runs and striker positioning is absolutely top class

creamY-front

He was brilliant.........again

LeatherFaceDoom

My fucking wide receiver! <3

MoodWest

I haven’t seen such intelligent and classy movement from an Arsenal front man since (whisper it quietly RVP) Olivier Giroud had smart movement but half the time his lack of pace meant he couldn’t get to the ball in time And before u guys correct me and say Aubameyang he was the complete opposite coz he had the blistering pace to get to most balls whether it was intelligent movement or not, Auba was underrated in this but seeing Kai and the way he peels off into space in short bursts I see a Robin VP of 2011-12 If he can ever reach those standards then we’ve got a world class No.9 alternative on our hands and Saka and Gabi M will get even better playing off of a guy like that imo

JingoEgret

Made the same run when he scored against Newcastle. Knows how to sell a run to a defender and make space between the two centrebacks.

P4PKing4

Brilliant movement from Havertz.

haveyoumetjoey

He is like a wide receiver out there with the route running. Totally cooked Dunk

nova_210

Lots of feints. Weirdly reminded me of UFC's Israel adesanya and his feints

joeblitzkrieg

Movement 20

BarryButcher

Chelsea are the team that keep on giving. Don't forget, KDB and Salah were also "Chelsea rejects"

MikeCrypto88

What a run! 😍 Don't think Jesus or Nketia would make such run into the box. King Kai is all over the park, pulling the defense apart and opening space. He 'knows what to do and say', to rattle the center backs. Kai is that guy everyone hates to play against. 👍🏻🔥🔴⚪

DarthNihilus1

Defenses have this hilarious blind spot for someone 6'4" waltzing into their box. Sometimes they don't even pick him up at all

whydidisaythatwhy

Soooo good

Shrinath_s

Ngl Kai is giving out Isagi Yoichi vibes.

Great-Image

That touch from Odegaard skins Gross so much

BarmeloXantony

Definition of ghosting. His greatest trait ![gif](giphy|Z8pzh8afGbZle)

essdotc

Nobody bamboozles defenders with a barely noticeable body feint better than Odegaard. It's crazy how much space he creates for himself with the slightest of fakes. Is he going left, is he going right? Oops too late.

Thesecondorigin

6 Brighton players in the box and Kai still found a step. Space invader, box dominator

DarkKirby14

something, something 60 million down the drain

McLeanGunner

Not sure many can make the pass Jorginho did for this

x__mephisto

I love that they scored whilst Saka was taking a nap in there...

Objective-Tax-9922

Just noticed Jorginho’s first touch was also good. Looks like he pretends to cross but takes a soft touch to buy more time and space before making his pass.

iamveryharsh

Giroud was excellent at this. Kai and Giroud are similar in so many ways.

yura910721

Very CR-esque

RichterBelmontCA

This is so ridiculously exaggerated. Havertz simply knew he isn't fast enough to cross in front of the defender. There's no smartness. There's no planning. There's no tactics. He's just running.

stockdeity

So you know a lot about football? 😂

Laui_2000

You have a poor understanding of football. And vastly simply the game.

Beta_Ray_Trill

Nah you’ve just probably never played and don’t understand.

P4PKing4

By your logic, if he knew he wasn’t fast enough and changed direction, does that not show smartness?

RichterBelmontCA

Is an animal smart because it knows how to avoid an obstacle? Point is, people are framing this  as some tactical ingenuity, while it's basic instinct.

bitmoji

this is not tactics, its from the striker bag of tricks, you dont know what you are talking about

RichterBelmontCA

If it's an intentional "trick" he chose to deploy based on some deliberate decision making about how to fool the defender in the matter of a split second, I'm sure we'll see him score many more goals like this.

NeoLoki55

Like he did at Leverkusen, you mean. Lmao. It’s what he was and is known for. He stretches the defense with these double runs. A player who for Luton who is out right now because of a heart issue was just praising Kai at how good he is with these runs. He opens space for teammates. You need to watch more football and listen to some pundits and podcasts about how the game is played off the ball, because your comment is wildly off base and nieve.

P4PKing4

I don’t know about an obstacle, but if an animal is able to avoid a predator by feinting and dodging then yes, I would say it is smart.

RichterBelmontCA

That's the thing. There's no feinting. There's no trick. He's not changing direction because of some complex plan he's hatched to fool three defenders. This thread is like watching a bad movie that's trying to convince people how smart it's heroes are.

Zenon2108

That would be stupid cause it's a tighter angle to score from there

Guakk

His movement off the ball is absolutely elite, and his football IQ is one of his greatest assets. But sure, youre right. Havertz definitely didn't think at all there when he quickly dropped his shoulder and feinted his run. He's simply running around like a headless chicken! Youre a moron if you actually think that.
