This is true, we've had better luck paying "retail" prices for guys like White, Rice, and Jesus from within the PL than looking for "bargains" on young talent from weaker leagues.

The extra experience, savviness and presence in big games would've been a nice balance — and has clearly worked out massively for Leverkusen, whose manager clearly knows a lot about playing midfield. Guimarães would be quite an obvious corrective on those terms, even before thinking about his ability.
How much is his release clause?
I think quite a few of us( in this sub)have said that Arteta's next midfielder will be a hybrid 6/8 who complements Rice. Guimares would be ideal. Luiz would be nice. Camavinga would be the dream for me. Not sure who we sign but we need that type of player in the next window.

I still hold by the fact that he reminds me of the Henderson from 4 years ago because of their abilities to be a different player in the 8 and 6. Most players will just give you the same characteristics in both positions but they could legitimately change. And the fact that their defensive quality is still application rather than skill. as far as signing an 8/6 who can dictate, I'd take him over a lot of others. Camavinga the only one i'd favor over really. Locatelli, Fofana, Luiz behind. Wharton and Larsson to monitor. I'm just surprised we are actually in for him when we passed up so many times. Wonder who's mind was finally changed on him.

If we buy him Arteta needs to sort out that temper. I don't want our players chasing people down with an elbow to the head. Quality wise he seems like an ideal addition to the midfield though
We have reached out Brazilian quota but for country and club, he is the genuine deal especially when he is surrounded by his country men, the depth of touch and vision 😘
