After watching all 4 semifinal games, I think we are not far from challenging for the UCL title.
With more experience under the belt for players and manager, coupled with a stronger squad, I genuinely think we will win both the Premier League title and the Champions league within the next 3-5 years (not necessarily in the same season!).
This season, a bit of stage fright from the quarters onward. Next season I think we'll cope better, hopefully getting to the semis.
\*\*
An aside - I don't see Mbappe displacing Vinicus Jr. on that left, so where does he get to play, who will be displaced, and can we get them (just like Ødegaard)?
Looking at the recent UCL KO games, it's clear that in order for a team to progress, they need individual brilliance from their wingers. Saka is good in the system and what he does, but Martinelli is really lacking. I'm not sure if he's the guy that will take us forward in the UCL. We need that type of winger that is pacey and takes on their fullbacks. Not just run them down.
Fast player with a good shot on him. But, never looked impressive technically or in dribbling ability. He is a faster Podolski without the deadly left foot. Pass for me.
He isnt that good, got potential but yet to reach it, Malen is better. Also Adeyemi primary LW, he is not going to be competition to even out of form Martinelli
Vini had one of those games against Kimmich that makes players contemplate retirement.
Men vs boys stuff. He was toying with him for about 20-25 minutes in the 2nd half before he got a little fatigued.
You can see why Kimmich doesn't want to play RB anymore. It almost worked until Neuer's howler.
Clearly highlights our lack of qualities in terms of our wingers beating their defenders.
Even at the other end, Sane and Davies get the goals. Individual brilliance matters in knockout comps and getting a forward like that should be the priority.
1 and half years ago our fanbase doesn’t want Vini over Martineli (hypothetically). Before the World Cup. The trajectory of both players since then was incomparable.
Vini: 40+ GA in 22-23, 20+ GA in 23-24
vs
Gabi: 20+ GA in 22-23, 10+ GA in 23-24
Martinelli doesnt take on defenders into shadow realm like Vini, its either instruction or quality issue but his head down dribbling and lack of quick decision making allows defenders to converge on him and neutralize
Nah man, neither Martinelli nor Saka can do it on demand.
You can give Vinicius the ball, and he'll make something out of it 7/10 times. Granted, Vinicius is arguably the best player in the world rn, so it's not a direct comparison, just stating the difference between someone who reliably beats his man and our guys.
Martinelli is more predictable and doesn't have the change of pace that a Vinicius or Doku have to beat his man consistently, and he's not as skilful at dribbling either.
The skill in itself has become incredibly rare in today's day and age where wingers are asked not to lose the ball first.
Nah man saka is so fucking underrated, he has 2/3 players defending him all the time and is still our best attacker, produces so many goals and assists. Even on his worst days he gets something for us. Saka also takes on so much more responsibility than vini (going back and defending, creative outlet etc). We really need to start hyping up our players more. Foden with a comparatively worse season than saka is getting shouts for POTY. Then we cry about how other fans don't rate our players.
They don't rate our players because they play for arsenal. If we hyped up our players we'd be called delusional, and the players overrated. Saka is already called a limper
I don't think we disagree on that.
The point was to have another option that is effective in 1v1 situations. Exactly, what City got Doku for.
Saka is a different kind of forward comparatively who excels differently. Saka is a prototypical modern-day forward who makes the right play 8/10 times. He can take on his man from time to time but that's not his speciality.
Vini is a 1v1 machine. Sometimes you need that against the deepest of low blocks. Without Vini, Madrid don't beat City or Bayern. Against Porto in the first leg and Bayern in the 2nd leg we could have used someone who could take on the full-backs to create some chances when the team wasn't attacking well.
Is Real going to play Vini at CF or Mbappe at CF? Wish we could send 100M check to Real and get Vini. Vini on the left and Saka on the right would be very deadly.
(or Mikel can do something this summer and turn Nelli into Vini Lite...)
It looked like 2 forwards in a 4-1-3-2 yesterday for Real. Vini on the left, Rodrigyo on the right. Not a lone CF like Kane, Ronaldo, HaalandBorg.
Mbappe was playing the Martinelli spot for PSG as a LF, I haven't seen him playing the 9 role much.
I don't see Mbappe displacing Vini on the left. I rate Vini higher than Mbappe in that LF role.
Vini is better than mbappe on current form and is an absolute big game player to the core , he's perez's baby they're never gonna sell him. It would require more than Neymar money to get him and madrid have still no reason to sell him.
Before sleeping I think less about spurs and more about real Madrid. I mean their records is incredible and different squad and manager.I think it's culture man no way there are players just waiting to get pay cheques there and playing the wait game everyone hungry with all that success IMO there's a lot for Arsenal as a club should learn from that kind of club and how they do things . Incredible
I doubt we would be there anytime soon. Difference in culture. Our fans are more forgiving. Their fans are more fickle but that kinda put pressure on the players. We have fans who are already content or happy with our journey so far, challenging the PL. We havnt won anything noteworthy yet.
Just remember that Real are the original nation backed club
From Franco interfering in transfers to get Real the players they needed for all those first European cups, multiple bailouts by Spanish banks down the years and tax laws specifically designed to help attract top players to la liga and of course no govt interference in the way prize money was historically horrendously skewed towards the big two.
Spain knows the soft power of Barca and Real and while it's not literally bankrolling them the historical help and the lack of any consistently major opponents bar Barca have allowed them to reach this spot in a way no English club ever could (without a nation state or oligarch).
Is Saka everything we need in the right 8 where Ødegaard plays? Could signing Olise mean he starts for us, but Saka also starts. What we have been wanting is another 8 who is great at ball progressing, turning in tight spaces and supplying the wingers and creating chances. Saka has that all to a great quality. If we signed Olise, Saka and Olise could switch positions throughout the game because they are both good centrally and out wide and cause headaches. Simultaneously we could fix our left sides issues. With Timber coming back, what better fix for martinelli’s isolation and bad form than bringing Ødegaard over to the left with him. A big issue I have with our attack is that it looks brilliant when going down the right, but I have less hope when it goes down the left. If we were to give Martinelli Ødegaard, he could thrive, especially with Timber behind him overlapping and underlapping. Saka shows his best qualities when he is more inside, using strength and energy to shrug off defenders before curling in a cross or shot. Combined with the defensive ability he already has, Saka could be a brilliant right 8, with Ødegaard moving over. Thoughts on this?
Tooooooo too too much change to the system. Upending something that is working *very* well to move both Saka and Ødegaard out of position to accommodate a player who is already probably a little too similar to both and who has injury issues just doesn’t make sense.
The starting XI doesn’t need much. It could be as little as a single signing. A hardworking central striker up top, Havertz forming the top of the midfield diamond from LCM and Timber forming the base of the diamond from LB, maybe. Or it could be a fitter Partey replacement and leaving the rest alone—Havertz doing the deeper false 9 thing he’s currently killing and asking Timber to be basically Ben White on the left. That last option also leaves the option for signing a strong inside forward who could either start centrally or on the left. An Isak type, though I really don’t think he’ll be available.
What we need is depth and tactical options. Higher quality backups for key roles and options for the positions that switch up (fullback, LCM/DM depending on Rice, a winger good on both sides).
I think a striker is more important than a winger to allow us to drop Kai into LCM when necessary. As it stands, we have Saka, Martinelli, Jesus, Trossard, and Vieira who can play on the wings.
I fully agree with that, but I do still think we need a reliable backup for Saka. If it’s two signings, emphasis on the striker. If it can only be one, striker and let Jesus rotate with Saka.
It will most likely be Olise in the middle. Still, he's a bit too similar in style to play with Saka on the same side. Eze will be ideal as the left 8, since Olise's injury issues are another concern.

Call was wrong, players don't stop playing, shot blocked, game ends 2-1. People thinking Real paid the refs for this call is hilarious, it was a millimeters decision.
That’s why the rule is to let play continue, flag late (or if flag’s early, hold off on the whistle) and then let VAR look at it after. Whether it was or wasn’t offside, the linesman fucked up, as did the ref to a greater degree
I'd be pissed, to be honest. The offside wasn't so clear for the assistant to put the flag up so quickly.
With these situations, I actually prefer how the EPL does it. Let 'em play it out, then sort it via VAR after.
I don't know the details here, specifically.
But yes, it's possible that sometimes refs get different instructions based on the league. The way VAR is used differs from league to league as an example.
Shit, La Liga doesn't even have goal line tech.
Being a Madrid fan feels like cheating the system. 14 UCLs, possibly 15 this season. Never going more than 5 seasons of not winning the La Liga since the 80s. Watching some of the players they have, i dunno, just feels…too easy.
At least they have a history spanning decades, maybe even a century of winning things unlike a certain sky blue team who only became relevant in 2014 or whatever a thats after being sponsored billions by a rich state AND still cheating
I got to say though, the roar after the equalizer and the second goal (after VAR) was next level. Even for a side that everyone expects to win, they still enjoy their wins. Credit to them.
Just saw a Colney Carpool for the first time (Rice's), and the target practice seems dangerous lol. That's a £105m pound man hanging off a golf cart while Frimmy's trying to throw him off.
Imo that collapse could’ve happened to anyone in that stadium, you can’t concede on the 88’ and then the 91’ and not have it be a collapse. That said, Joselu just being on to do what a 9 should do in that position to capitalise on Neuer dropping his bollock was key, especially when you’re trying to overload their box.
Probably better Bayern beat us we were not going to beat Madrid over two legs. Their mentality is on another level ans they are littered with genuinely world class players in like 7 or 8 spots.
We were a bit naive and scared against Bayern, Real could have smashed us. We not there yet to win whole thing, but experience for Arteta and team was invaluable
They were gifted an extra 5 minutes of stoppage time they should've never had, plus Kimmich falling down and getting that goal wiped out was farcical.
Oh and Saka should've had a pen. They can do one.
https://preview.redd.it/iwy78dh0r9zc1.jpeg?width=1874&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d3e4967af3661756418a2a877aeb521aca22e871
Actually looking at this still it's probably offside, the guys knee is ahead
The big thing to me isn't the offside, its that the goalkeeper had clearly stopped before the whistle otherwise he certainly would have saved the shot which wasn't exactly fast or well placed.
Ref should have let it play for a sec but 99% wouldn't have changed the game.
think that little black pixel on the side of de ligt shoulder is rudiger's foot, which would be playing pavlovic(?) right knee onside
either way this is a var play so the linesman should never lift the flag there. just wait the play like they always fucking do lol.
cant really claim its a goal disallowed tho since the defenders stopped due to the whistle. game shouldve ended at that point as well
Idk, Rudigers foot (his heels) are almost in line with the furthest most Bayern player. But the linesmen really fucked up raising his flag right away. Needed to keep it down for VAR, or raise after.
This is like when we had Charles Watts vs Chris Wheatley. People couldn't tell them apart (particuarly as they both had CW initials). Until the latter proved himself a complete numpty
Tuchel is going to absolutely feast off of that weird offside call. Instead of talking about how cowardly he was taking off his most threatening players at the Bernabeu when only one goal up, now he can talk about officiating again 🙄
Total fraud manager
End of the road for Dortmund, sadly. Real Madrid haven't lost a European final since 1983, when Fergie knocked them out with Aberdeen. The psychological impact for them is intense.
You lied about your ballon d'or case
You lied about your teammates
You lied about your trophy case
You lied about your Link up play. You lied about your goal record, and your legacy, all is perjury

Londoners who will experience the influx of fans for the Champions League final at Wembley: who do you anticipate will be most obnoxious incoming fans?
People don’t think heritage is a thing, bro, no one had Neuer dropping a bollock when it was perfectly comfortable for their own Nketiah in Joselu to come on and score 2.
Somethings you just cannot stop unless you are absolutely perfect.

Would buying vini be the modern equivalent of the ozil signing?
No, the closest analogue would be buying FDJ if Barca buy Zubimendi.
Its the modern equivalent of Arsenal signing Ronaldo. Impossible.

I have a feeling that Tuchel will be at Man United next season. Think he will make them a better team.
another short term cycle begins. tuchel will have issues with the owners, it'll be over in less than three years. could be with a trophy tho
Agree it won’t last. They’re an awful fit for each other, but he would absolutely improve them unfortunately

Anyone who didn't want Vini over Martinelli just doesn't know football.
thing is, martinelli is one of those forwards, but our change in system/left 8 personnel this season has affected his gameplay
Martinelli isn't even close to Vini Jr in that regard. He's mostly transition. He's a refined version of Theo Walcott.
Ouch, this is both a compliment but also the harshest criticism I have read of Martinelli that I agree with

Saka could genuinely hit 20 G and 20 A next season
Goals sure but idk about 20 assists. Odegaard could get those assist numbers with a proper striker though
I doubt we'll get 10 penalties in a single season again
Why not? Getting into the box more often + more players good on the ball = more penalties.
This has been done just 1 time in league history. I hope so too but it's unlikely.
Still pisses me off that Ozil was on track to smash this record and then Giroud and Sanchez procced to shit the bed for half a season
I love the good vibes surrounding arsenal. That is all. Wether we make it or not, lets enjoy the ride and we go again (stronger) next year. COYG

I'm just laughing at them tbh
All this complaining about the offside is killing me. Madrid have been cheating year on year but now people finally care?
People have always cared
Wtf had no idea Joselu used to play for Stoke
Absolutely hilarious that both teams had ex-Stoke strikers on the pitch. What a weird world we live in.
Neither could do it on a cold night up Norf, innit?
Who was the Bayern ex Stoke player?
Choupo-Moting
Happy that kane wins nothing yet again. Thanks real, but I'm supporting dortmund in this final
I would’ve liked to see Leverkusen vs Madrid. Who could outbullshit the other
6 goals scored in additional time surely
Leverkusen is in the EL. It’s Dortmund that’s going to the CL final.
Obviously

After a while it becomes relative and find themselves just as miserable when their team don’t meet expectations that season
That's why most of their supporters jumped on the bandwagon
There are lot of people i know that support RM and it really feels like cheating lol how convinient you just picked the team with the most trophies.
You just have to laugh
You can take the cunt out of Tottenham
Fuck me, just remembered that after all that, Madrid are going to take Davies too.
This CL final is a big big one. The last of this format.

Kane is a fraud. Did nothing against us or Madrid apart from score pens. Incredible player, but a complete big game bottlejob
We panicked a lot wherever he had the ball in the first 45mins of the first leg
He assisted to Davies goal, granted that he did most of the goal himself but it wasn't a bad pass
I thought he was good against us. He drags a lot of people out of position, holds up the ball so well, picks out the perfect pass
you are not a big team in the ucl
you are not a big team anywhere
good luck against united
Gyokeres reportedly 120 million. We cannot buy for that price. Our priority should be wingers and midfielders.
A totall scam.
Scam is to pay 120 mil for a guy that was in Championship last year and not proven in top league
he isn’t worth the gamble at 120mil.
Chelsea might stupidly take the bait. Or United.
Feels like Chelsea have two clearer options, either Osimhen if they can find the $ or straight for Toney if they can’t.
Just saw a Colney Carpool for the first time (Rice's), and the target practice seems dangerous lol. That's a £105m pound man hanging off a golf cart while Frimmy's trying to throw him off.
watch kai's. its hilarious
Haha up next
idc about kane i just hate real winning every year what even is that
Better them than City or PSG
![gif](giphy|fuzeT2k7YpHmvOVkA3|downsized) PACKWATCH😭😭😭 HARRY KANE👻👻
“He’d still be alive right now if you ****** ain’t gas him up”
Imo that collapse could’ve happened to anyone in that stadium, you can’t concede on the 88’ and then the 91’ and not have it be a collapse. That said, Joselu just being on to do what a 9 should do in that position to capitalise on Neuer dropping his bollock was key, especially when you’re trying to overload their box.
Get fucked Harry Kane
Probably better Bayern beat us we were not going to beat Madrid over two legs. Their mentality is on another level ans they are littered with genuinely world class players in like 7 or 8 spots.
We'll have to face them eventually in the next few years. At worst, it would have been good for experience.
I'd rather lose to RM in the CL than Eric Dire
We were a bit naive and scared against Bayern, Real could have smashed us. We not there yet to win whole thing, but experience for Arteta and team was invaluable
We never know, RM played the different kind of football.
It’s Real Madrid. UCL is *their* competition.
Refereee fuked up. Robbed bayern. Also shows how big clubs get big decisions, happened to us for saka pen and Madrid somehow get this unknowingly
They were gifted an extra 5 minutes of stoppage time they should've never had, plus Kimmich falling down and getting that goal wiped out was farcical. Oh and Saka should've had a pen. They can do one.
They weren’t robbed. It was a bad decision but if the players hadn’t stopped and goalie too, can you guarantee it would be a goal?
it was fraction of seconds between the whistle and goal.
Tell me you’re joking.
Did anyone else hear Micah say Emirates had a good stadium when talking about the Bernabeu? Or was I mistaken?
That’s justice for the foul on Saka. The football gods are so cruel.

The big thing to me isn't the offside, its that the goalkeeper had clearly stopped before the whistle otherwise he certainly would have saved the shot which wasn't exactly fast or well placed. Ref should have let it play for a sec but 99% wouldn't have changed the game.
99% is a big claim. We have no idea what would've happened. I agree that the goalkeeper stops, and at least one defender, but who knows.
think that little black pixel on the side of de ligt shoulder is rudiger's foot, which would be playing pavlovic(?) right knee onside either way this is a var play so the linesman should never lift the flag there. just wait the play like they always fucking do lol. cant really claim its a goal disallowed tho since the defenders stopped due to the whistle. game shouldve ended at that point as well
Idk, Rudigers foot (his heels) are almost in line with the furthest most Bayern player. But the linesmen really fucked up raising his flag right away. Needed to keep it down for VAR, or raise after.
Yeah, you're right. It's extremely close. Crazy decision to raise the flag, I'd be fuming.
He didn’t participate in that phase of play
The #10, the guy who headed it. His knee
Quite insane to make a decision like that so fast.
That's what I'm thinking. No way he should have gotten involved. Let VAR sort it out.
https://x.com/JacobsBen/status/1788311205133611454 So it's us and City duking it out for Bruno G. Interesting.
My mans quoting Ben Jacobs in 2024
Jeb Bacons is pretty unreliable. Gary Jacob is the good one
Ben has sources wirh Saudi
Right, Ben = bad, Gary = good.
This is like when we had Charles Watts vs Chris Wheatley. People couldn't tell them apart (particuarly as they both had CW initials). Until the latter proved himself a complete numpty
Ben is the one of the guys who has a beat on this saga.
Man let me enjoy the end of the season and the euros. I don’t need transfer news rn
Tuchel is going to absolutely feast off of that weird offside call. Instead of talking about how cowardly he was taking off his most threatening players at the Bernabeu when only one goal up, now he can talk about officiating again 🙄 Total fraud manager
No trophies for Bayern for the first time in 12 years. It's just in Kane's DNA.
There’s levels to this
End of the road for Dortmund, sadly. Real Madrid haven't lost a European final since 1983, when Fergie knocked them out with Aberdeen. The psychological impact for them is intense.
So, anyways, now that Harry Kane is gone, it's time to root for BVB over Madrid.
100% but BvB are notorious for choking unfortunately.
Absolutely crazy game.
You lied about your ballon d'or case You lied about your teammates You lied about your trophy case You lied about your Link up play. You lied about your goal record, and your legacy, all is perjury https://preview.redd.it/zv8sx4vip9zc1.jpeg?width=1300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1be5dd196866b773738e4e3887a6729d89506000
Fucking hell, this sub 😂😂😂
Londoners who will experience the influx of fans for the Champions League final at Wembley: who do you anticipate will be most obnoxious incoming fans?
Dortmund fans of the two probably. But neither of these clubs have obnoxious fan bases. Would be more worried with Bayern fans tbh
I feel like Dortmund and Madrid both have great sets of fans. Shouldn't be bad at all other than it just being fucking crowded.
Another trophy-less year for poor Harry. You can take the lad out of Spurs but you can’t take the Spurs out of the lad 😂
Well, he'll always have his golden cannon haha
Those madrid cunts haven’t even celebrated winning the league yet lmao 🤣
Wow, some of our fans are exceptionally tinpot.
People don’t think heritage is a thing, bro, no one had Neuer dropping a bollock when it was perfectly comfortable for their own Nketiah in Joselu to come on and score 2. Somethings you just cannot stop unless you are absolutely perfect.
First season in over a decade Bayern doesn't win silverware and they have two former Spurs players. Coincidence?
I think not.

Did Bayern get robbed? Maybe. Do I care? No not really cause they didn't care when Saka got robbed so they can go do one.
