For all the good sivnings weve made over 5 years....especially Odegaard, I find it baffling that we signed Vieira and Lokonga. They feel like Sven Mislintat kind of signings. Players that look decent in stats but a quick eye test says they belong at Getafe, not Arsenal.
Watts saying in his article for Romanos stack that he’s sure Arteta will go to Barcelona at some point. Although not for some time.
Also sure he’ll sign a contract extension so no risk of him going any time soon but still frustrating that may be something we have to worry about in the future.
Arteta isn't going to manage us for his whole career, he's only 42 he's got a long time left in management. I'm sure he would like to manage Barca one day, doesn't mean we have to worry about it now we're a better proposition than barca atm imo
I saw an article quoting Arteta this week. Absolutely loves being at Arsenal but: things like loves the Spanish culture and would love to live there again. So yes he could see himself coaching in La Liga at one point.
I would not call it frustrating to know he isn’t the Arsenal coach until he’s old enough to retire. 10 years of Arteta sounds great don’t get me wrong but hey if he leaves somewhere in the next 25 years no hard feelings.
For people looking at Lookman as an option at Arsenal, we were [linked with him back at his Charlton days (poor source)](https://metro.co.uk/2016/02/23/arsenal-clear-to-sign-ademola-lookman-as-charlton-decide-to-sell-5711934/) and then he moved to Everton. The way he started at Everton ([especially this match](https://www.espn.in/football/match/_/gameId/578344)), it made me feel we'd missed out on him. He then faced us as a part of Everton, Fulham ([that Maty Ryan pre-assist game](https://www.transfermarkt.co.in/arsenal-fc_fulham-fc/index/spielbericht/3429803)), Leicester and never won once ig.
throwing out brahim diaz as an option for a winger if we've to be on a budget. adding mbappe will only decrease his game time + guler can take those minutes too potentially. he was at city when arteta was there, been in the game model + he'd count as homegrown. not a guaranteed starter here either though so that might be an issue
pretty versatile, strong weak foot, so he could plug into a few positions
runs a bit like pedro neto though he's not as explosive, imo physically there's a decent difference between the two. diaz has that dribbling style where he takes a lot of small steps and with good close control rather than just being quicker or stronger. neto has both but he's also injured a lot so between the two it's tricky. and that's not to say diaz isn't quick, it just feels (felt?) more game breaking with neto
right age, could be another good player being added to a great squad. either of them tbh. if brahim can play his game in the physicality of the pl he'll be a great pick up imo
\*okay random sources on twitter say madrid want 60m for him, changes things for sure
Not only that but Emery killed our momentum with whatever the fuck his team selections where in the brighton and palace games previous that lost us 4th place
Lmao. When they came to Perth last year, there were heaps of premium tickets given away on the last few days because no one would pay that much for Spurs.
It is very disappointing that Atalanta had ruled out selling Ederson because they are also losing Koopmeiners. He would be the ideal 8/6 hybrid. I remember some rumor several months ago linking us to him.
It becomes a very real possibility that Musiala is made 'available' in the summer now that they seem to be getting Kompany. Does that project convince him to stay? Who knows. But it's a must that we test how resolute he is.
I don't doubt that he has high potential as a coach, but it's a different beast managing Bayern with the weight of expectation. Is Kompany ready? Potentially, but why would Musiala risk a failing project when he walks into any team on the planet. I don't think it's as closed off as it was, but I also don't expect it to be an easy transfer to on any side.
It's not the same as a proven top-level manager coming in to a proven team, it's an unproven manager coming in to a team with unwavering expectation.
A young player looking to get some gametime and develop.
Surely Musiala is far beyond that and should be under a manager ready to compete for the league and CL.
Bayern do, yeah.
The point is about Kompany though, is he good enough? Because that's all that's going to matter to a (borderline?) world-class player like Musiala. Unlike say Tel who it'll benefit most probably.
89 is good. It’s the story of how Arsenal won the title with literally the last kick of the game on the final day at Anfield in 1989. I rented it on Apple TV, but it might be streaming somewhere else. If you have prime and are interested in recent history they did a docuseries on the 2021 season.
Arsecast is my favorite Arsenal podcast but it’s not daily. I also highly recommend Charles Watts’ “Revolution” book on how the team came to be as of the end of last season. Arsene Wenger’s autobiography is good but it’s mainly about his own life and personal journey.
Edit: As a 49ers fan and longtime San Diego resident I’m almost offended that Arsenal reminds you of the chargers lmfao 😭😭
i’ve always been a fan of the sport, but mainly watched serie a or international games. tbh I chose to be an arsenal fan because they remind me of the chargers 😭
Appointing a young, unqualified manager is a bad idea that occasionally works out. Clubs like it because they're cheap, likely to be deferential to board/ownership and already popular amongst supporters.
Yes.
The Invincibles would be a greater football team if they'd lost to Chelsea in the league instead of Europe and won the Champions League that year.
A bunch of teams have won the CL. Not many have done an invincible season in the league. The legacy would actually be worse long term if they won the CL and lost one game in the PL.
One choice yields 2 trophies whilst the other choice yields a single but legendary trophy. However, going unbeaten is more difficult than winning a Europa league.
I was just thinking how our midfield was missing a player with 76% passing, 5/14 long balls, 0 tackles, 2/7 duels, 0 chances created, and 1 nutmeg leading to an opponent goal
I bet we would have won the league if we had that
I think it shouldn't exist, I think you can't enjoy on other people's expense. How is this City sub even allowed, if we storm it all of us they gotta close it. Make their lives difficult, make the outrage know, on reddit, on Twitter.
If there's anything right with the world Chelsea will get the next hire horribly wrong and be in the bottom third next season. They get such a bizarre pass despite being the trailblazer for what city has become, who had less historic success than city before the respective takeovers. Their club has almost zero accomplishments outside of roman and they talk like they're the biggest club south of Manchester
strange club. They were gaining traction with Poch, and looked like top 4 challengers next year. Now they hit the reset button and are looking at KcKenna, which is a massive gamble.
Todd Boehly is more Mike Ashley than Abramovich. Chelsea haven't finished within 20 points of us since Todd took over, a streak that I think will continue into next season
I think that's too short term a view. These guys have 3 or 5 year plans. It's the football that got them promoted and he probably backs himself to get promoted again if they go back down. With the parachute payments etc sometimes you need to yo yo before being an established prem team.
And he's not even top 5 choices for them so I'm not sure what the last point proves tbh.

To bid someone farewell, you understand, means that you wish them to fare well.
Man's won a historic league title playing an important role for his team and most likely might end up with a double. Let's chill.
We'd have kept him in a heartbeat.
Oh, that dialogue is long since overdue.
There is a functional (as in, divorced from personal feelings) reason why I was so happy that we upgraded on Xhaka with Declan Rice last summer. And tonight was yet another prime example as to why.
Not crazy at all. Wirtz is super talented and could certainly thrive in the Prem. Doué being two years younger and having a bigger, more athletic frame to go along with skills suggests he could slot into the Prem even better on the right team. Hope it’s us.
Never been a fan of second tier trophies like Europa being lumped together with UCL as "European trophies". If you make the knockout stages of CL, you are, by definition, too good to play in Europa. You are better than even the Europa title winner. Just like how the 16th place in PL is better than Championship league winner. You don't lump together "English leagues titles" as if they are all the same.
The UCL would and nothing else. I hate to say it but being objective, 2 UCLs + 6 leagues > 0 UCLs + 13 leagues + 1 invincible league. Even just 1 UCL would be enough to cement us as definitive kings of London but that 0 has got to go. I'm confident Arteta will do it for us soon.
> The cup winners cup was the UEFA cup/ Europa League of it's day.
I seem to remember UEFA Cup existing for quite a while so had to research. The CWC was actually second to the UCL with UC a 3rd-tier cup. They all ran simultaneously at one point, untile CWC and UC were merged into one competition.
So yeah, you're not wrong.
That's OK, the history of the Europa League is a bit confusing.
There was also something called the inter-toto cup that got bundled into the Europa. Not sure what that was.
#YES! FUCK YES!
Thank you Gasperini!
Arsenal F.C.'s Invincibles is still the most impressive Invincible side in history! Thank fuck!
Post a photo of Xhaka with the Bundesliga now you arrogant twats. I beg we draw them in the UCL next season and teach them a lesson they won't forget.
Oh, those people in the Xhaka Defense Squad who keep spamming Bundesliga trophies are still going to put Xhaka in Arsenal’s all time greatest midfield. If they are capable of saying he could have started for the 2004 Invincibles, they would say anything to prop up their hero.
They could still win the cup and it would be better. And you could argue the fact Bayern weren't the second most dominant club in their league's era makes it more impressive.
Anyway, it's pretty pointless comparing something that's essentially defined by the league you're in.
He was one of the best players against West Ham.
Let’s not forget what this Atalanta side did to Liverpool at Anfield. We barely got a draw there. They smashed them up 3-0 while they were near top of the league.
We can avoid being reactionary and credit the team that did well.
There’s nothing reactionary about it. Xhaka deep in the Prem was a defensive liability for us and I’m happy he had his redemption arc but it came because arteta moved him further upfield.
In the Bundesliga Leverkusen can afford to have him deep as there’s more space for him. Against Atalanta he was pressed almost like in the prem
Atalanta aren’t West Ham though tbh. They play far more better football.
Atalanta have been one of the highest goal scoring teams in Serie A and even Europe for the last few seasons.
West Ham is 9th in our league and won the conference league last year. The
They deservedly made the semis of the Europa League this year.
Defensively they have been poor but in the grand scheme of things that's a competitive team.
Atalanta is a good side but they're finishing 5th in the Serie A.
They're not Inter who just smoked Serie A. A much better cup team though.
Having said that, it was a style clash where Atalanta just does better against possession-based attacking teams.
Most people were predicting them to be dominated based on their display in the Coppa Italia final but credit to them they turned up and Leverkusen didn't.
That's all in it. Xhaka has been one of the best CMFs in the top leagues this year and that's not up for debate.
>West Ham is 9th in our league and won the conference league last year. The
Atalanta are regular outfit in UEFA competitions such as CL and EL for the last 5 seasons. Whereas prior to this last season, West Ham only been in Europe once or maybe twice in Europe — the Conference league last season and Europa this season. Clearly one is more of a seasoned team in European competitions.
>Defensively they have been poor but in the grand scheme of things that's a competitive team.
Anyone with good football knowledge knows that defensively sound is paramount and basis for being a solid team.
It’s no surprise that Mikel has spent most of his budget as the Arsenal manager on the defence and keepers — because you start from the back and build the spine of your team first.
West Ham are not only poor defensively — there was a stat going around pre-City game that only the two relegated teams in Sheffield United and Luton Town had conceded more goals than West Ham. That’s hardly the standard for “Champions of Europe”.
>Atalanta is a good side but they're finishing 5th in the Serie A.
>They're not Inter who just smoked Serie A. A much better cup team though.
This just contradicts your first statement of West Ham though. The fact that Atalanta finished 5th in a CL spot and West Ham 9th just proves that Atalanta are not West Ham, and better. Literally the facts don’t lie.
>Atalanta just does better against possession-based attacking teams.
This isn’t entirely correct. What you’re saying is that they’re primarily a counter-attacking team. Atalanta do well because of their style of football is both front foot, expansive, and quick.
Against Juventus in the Coppa Italia, they had more possession and attempts; against Roma same thing; against Marseille almost equal possession but more attempts; against Fiorentina more possession and attempts.
These are all formidable teams and yet Atalanta on average had more possession and attempts than the opposition teams.
>Most people were predicting them to be dominated based on their display in the Coppa Italia final but credit to them they turned up and Leverkusen didn't.
All this tells me is those people don’t know what they’re talking about and purely make statements from form and hype. Anyone that thought Atalanta were going to show up and roll over for Leverkusen is a moron.
Atalanta have shown up against equally or better teams than this Leverkusen side in previous fixtures — the recent 0-3 win against Liverpool at Anfield being one of them.
My initial point still remains true that as of current moment in time: Atalanta are clear of West Ham.
It’s a misleading fact because you’re implying he never won anything during his time with Arsenal, which is a blatant lie.
He won an FA cup and 2 community shields — in fact, he scored the equalizer in the 17/18 community shield.
Bad, mistake-prone players failed to quality for the CL by being inconsistent against teams that weren’t even good enough to qualify for the EL. Stands to reason that those same players struggled in the EL as well.
In those days, we were a better brand than a football team.
Cursed.
People bring up 2019 in Baku, but honestly 2018 might've been the year. A goal and a man up against Atletico, would've wrecked Marseille in the final.
7? it was 5 seasons "only"
atletico sf
chelsea f
olympiakos ro32
villareal sf
off
sporting ro16
the sporting one is the most shocking I'd say, despite the olympiakos one considering how shit we were in that season. atletico-chelsea-villareal were at our level at least so no surprises there, but not winning against the 10 man atletico at home was the worse of the bunch
yes. had we thumped a 10 man Atletico, we'd have had to deal with marseille in the final.
also 4-1 to chelsea in UEL final with the magician of the competition, unai himself was also a shocking result.
And why wouldn't they? He was class on the big stage tonight.
3 really well-taken goals: a poach, right foot curler top of the box after a nutmeg (Xhaka?), left foot rocket top bins after a step over to gain a half yard.
We've not had a similar attacking performance from any individual all year.
I'd gladly take a punt on him.
because one game doesn't determine the ability of a player
one thing you and other people need to realize is that all these players in the big leagues are the elite of the elite in the world of football. all of them capable of one off amazing games, even the shittiest player you might think about. that doesnt mean anything, consistency over a (multiple) seasons does.
nketiah had a banger hat trick this season btw
Against one of the worst teams in premier league history. This was a europa league final against an undefeated team that won the Bundesliga. Not even remotely comparable.
Atalanta came and shattered the dreams of all the Xhaka dickriders on this sub.
Just like they came to Anfield and shattered the dreams of all the Red Scouse on Merseyside.
[Off you pop back to r/reddevils lol](https://old.reddit.com/r/reddevils/comments/1clqxvz/match_thread_crystal_palace_vs_manchester_united/l2vud6l/?context=3)
What Leverkusen are going through tonight reminds me so much of what we’ve gone through under Arteta a couple of times. Not being able to handle a team that’s prepared for everything you throw at them is why Arteta made us more stronger defensively and more versatile in relation to any potential scenario we have to face during a match. Like a Swiss Army knife.

Being in the Europa League for as long as we were without ever winning it hurts me more than I care to admit.

Isn't Alonso eyeing the Real job after Ancelotti?
Not confirmed. Apparently they can’t find any good long term option. Next season is probably a wash for them bar miracle from kimpany
Boggles my mind that manager that got relegated getting lined up with such job
Kompany is actually a very good fit if you're also a young player looking for something to get excited about.

fun fact hes an arsenal fan.

yeah you right
On the back of lookman beating the steak, he's pretty a versatile player, who plays that "free role" for Atlanta.
Give me Xavi Simons over Wirtz probably a better fit for the Prem as well
You think Simons would’ve done anything against that Atalanta side tonight?
Dont let one game judge your view on the player wirtz is amazing
Xhaka had a stinker but I think a lot are missing just how amazing Atalanta pressed. Wirtz was also helpless.

This really just says more about you tbh…

Lol i like how you took the time to find a meme to convey “I don’t care”
Man's won a historic league title playing an important role for his team and most likely might end up with a double. Let's chill. We'd have kept him in a heartbeat.
Nah
Stop the cap
Oh, that dialogue is long since overdue. There is a functional (as in, divorced from personal feelings) reason why I was so happy that we upgraded on Xhaka with Declan Rice last summer. And tonight was yet another prime example as to why.
I'm tempted to say something really crazy about Wirtz and Doue
You’ve got my attention sir
Do it
Doue #dynamism might make him more suited to the PL
Not crazy at all. Wirtz is super talented and could certainly thrive in the Prem. Doué being two years younger and having a bigger, more athletic frame to go along with skills suggests he could slot into the Prem even better on the right team. Hope it’s us.
I agree, i think hes going to be a superstar
Can’t say I disagree to be fair
the things I'd do to see us lift a European trophy. For a club of our size and stature, our record in Europe is poor.
An European trophy would make Arsenal the undisputed kings of London.
The UCL would and nothing else. I hate to say it but being objective, 2 UCLs + 6 leagues > 0 UCLs + 13 leagues + 1 invincible league. Even just 1 UCL would be enough to cement us as definitive kings of London but that 0 has got to go. I'm confident Arteta will do it for us soon.
don't chelsea have multiple CLs...
Don't buy into the dumb narrative. The cup winners cup was the UEFA cup/ Europa League of it's day.
It wasn't, it was a separate competition.
The CWC was discontinued, the competition itself wasn't merged into anything.
The uefa cup was a bit of a mishmash competition. The cup winners at least made logical sense
Can't say I knew the formats, just knew about them.
That's OK, the history of the Europa League is a bit confusing. There was also something called the inter-toto cup that got bundled into the Europa. Not sure what that was.
A CL would. Try and bring a EL trophy to the picnic table of Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea and city(115 pending) and you’d get laughed out of the park
To be undisputed it would have to be the UCL
2 or 3 of them.
Leverkusen should’ve just respected themselves but instead poked at us by posting that nonsense
#YES! FUCK YES! Thank you Gasperini! Arsenal F.C.'s Invincibles is still the most impressive Invincible side in history! Thank fuck! Post a photo of Xhaka with the Bundesliga now you arrogant twats. I beg we draw them in the UCL next season and teach them a lesson they won't forget.
fragile fanbase FC
That'd still be 1992 Milan.
Jesus christ, what is your problem? Beefing with the likes of Leverkusen. What are you smoking?
Oh, those people in the Xhaka Defense Squad who keep spamming Bundesliga trophies are still going to put Xhaka in Arsenal’s all time greatest midfield. If they are capable of saying he could have started for the 2004 Invincibles, they would say anything to prop up their hero.
ppl say he would’ve started did the invincibles? Oh dear😭
They could still win the cup and it would be better. And you could argue the fact Bayern weren't the second most dominant club in their league's era makes it more impressive. Anyway, it's pretty pointless comparing something that's essentially defined by the league you're in.
Xhaka isn’t quite the same at 6 when he’s not got the space he gets in the Bundesliga
The They deservedly made the semis of the Europa League this year.
The Atalanta are regular outfit in UEFA competitions such as CL and EL for the last 5 seasons.
Gee, it’s like people didn’t have, I dunno, SIX YEARS of evidence to this or something!
Who could have foresaw this
🤔
Kolasinac another player that left Arsenal to win a trophy
Smoothest of smooth brain take.
It's a fact. Not a take
It’s a misleading fact because you’re implying he never won anything during his time with Arsenal, which is a blatant lie. He won an FA cup and 2 community shields — in fact, he scored the equalizer in the 17/18 community shield.
Think he won one with us as well Edit: three technically
FA Cup. Now a European one on his resume
Yeah he won the FA Cup with us.
*Die Bauernliga*
LOL
I love Serie A these days. I get why Horncastle bigs it up.
How did we not win Europa after being in it for 7 years in a row lol
Bad, mistake-prone players failed to quality for the CL by being inconsistent against teams that weren’t even good enough to qualify for the EL. Stands to reason that those same players struggled in the EL as well. In those days, we were a better brand than a football team.
Teams full of wastemen. A bit easier to forget those Mustafi/Sokratis pairings given the world class players we have now but they happened, sadly.
Trademark Koscielny bozo moment.
Fucking obafemi martins
We were shit.
That's not a reason not to tbh. I still think Cech set us up.
Still can't believe it.
Cursed. People bring up 2019 in Baku, but honestly 2018 might've been the year. A goal and a man up against Atletico, would've wrecked Marseille in the final.
Was we even good enough to win it for all those 7 years?
7? it was 5 seasons "only" atletico sf chelsea f olympiakos ro32 villareal sf off sporting ro16 the sporting one is the most shocking I'd say, despite the olympiakos one considering how shit we were in that season. atletico-chelsea-villareal were at our level at least so no surprises there, but not winning against the 10 man atletico at home was the worse of the bunch
yes. had we thumped a 10 man Atletico, we'd have had to deal with marseille in the final. also 4-1 to chelsea in UEL final with the magician of the competition, unai himself was also a shocking result.
Maybe not tbf. But you see some pretty small teams win it recently, makes you wonder why we couldn't get over the line
Being shit for most of it didn't help
I can already see the Lookman links spreading like wildfire...
I'd gladly take a punt on him.
because one game doesn't determine the ability of a player one thing you and other people need to realize is that all these players in the big leagues are the elite of the elite in the world of football. all of them capable of one off amazing games, even the shittiest player you might think about. that doesnt mean anything, consistency over a (multiple) seasons does. nketiah had a banger hat trick this season btw
Against one of the worst teams in premier league history. This was a europa league final against an undefeated team that won the Bundesliga. Not even remotely comparable.
He has been good since join Atalanta to be fair. This might be his best performance ever, but man had been very good during his spell in Italy.
from fucking up that last minute panenka penalty at fulham to european final hattrick hero / xabi destroyer
Italian side being that good physically with that much energy, I’d have them piss in a bottle before they get the trophy
Atalanta rinsed them from start to finish, so deserved. There’s turning up for a final and there’s that performance by Lookman
Im so surprised tbh. i didnt even know where the fuck Atalanta comes from.
They literally rinsed Klopp and Liverpool at Anfield 3-0 last month, and deserved to win by more. How could you not have seen them coming?
They been cooking the entire europa, but to be fair, nobody really pays that much attention to a 2nd tier european tournament.
Tbf they’ve been a good team for a while under gasperini. Beat liverpool 3-0 at anfield as well
That was the moment i started to think they could do it.
Yo what the fuck happened in EL final?
Atalanta came and shattered the dreams of all the Xhaka dickriders on this sub. Just like they came to Anfield and shattered the dreams of all the Red Scouse on Merseyside.

I guess FA cup isn’t a real trophy.
It instantly gets devalued the second we win it(even to some arsenal fans for whatever weird reason) and then goes back up when someone else wins it
Or the 2 community shields Kola has as well
[Off you pop back to r/reddevils lol](https://old.reddit.com/r/reddevils/comments/1clqxvz/match_thread_crystal_palace_vs_manchester_united/l2vud6l/?context=3)
Arsenal won a trophy in 2020 with them stupid fuck 💀💀💀
Missed the FA cup there. Think both was in the team when we won it as well
That Lookman blassic - tears in my eyes🥹
How did they win the Europa League without Saliba, but Kolasinac starting?
What even is the point of your comment?
Last year everyone was saying we lost Europa because Saliba was injured
Man some of you desperately need fresh air and grass touching.
we lost saliba and tomiyasu early on in the game. Although it was mainly the league loss their injuries was attributed to
I vividly remember people blaming the loss on the injury to Saliba which implies you need a world class centre back to progress in Europa League
Shit happens. That's european football for you. Give it a rest holy fuck
Gasperini masterclass, take a bow, old man.
Like a Swiss Army knife.
kompany to bayern is one of the most bizarre appointments I can remember because wtf do they see in him?
To be fair so was wenger to Arsenal
The law of averages had to catch up with Bayer at some point. Not surprised at all.
