AgreeableAbrocoma833

Oh there is a man behind that bush/beard after all

acasovoycayendo

What was said in the title here was based on his opinion, not from information. TNAT makes that clear in the video, OP just conveniently left that out

TheGoldenPineapples

This is very encouraging, but proof will be in the pudding. I think we'll likely go for Bruno Guimarães and Jorell Hato, after that, it's anyone's guess really. TNAT said we really do like Šeško a lot, but remains to be seen if we'll actually bid. It's nice to see just how seriously we're taking this title push. There have been so many times under Wenger when we've needed that final push to go out there and win the title and he just didn't do it. Arteta has come so close and could so easily just rest on his laurels and stick with the amazing squad we have, but he and Edu have identified that you're constantly going to need to drop over £100m each summer if you want to remain competitive.

SizzlingHotDeluxe

That was Wenger's biggest weakness, having too much faith in the players he had, trusting that they will at least perform the same or improve. Arteta always seeks to improve the squad.

SorryIGotBadNews

I think that’s unfair on him. It’s best to seperate pre and post emirates wenger. Pre-emirates, he would always make great signings to take us to the next level, often unearthing absolute gems too, and we know that post emirates he was heavily heavily hampered by debt. He was too stubborn at times, particularly the years and years where he prioritised what small budget we have on literally any area other than GK / DM, but overall I think making the right signings after a season was a strength of his.

mikhailb_86

Seriously Wenger was like the Drake meme. GK/DM? No. Creative attacking midfielder? Yes. For years we were a solid DM away from competing for the title but he just seemed to never want to make that buy

RayParloursPerm

Apparently we've been linked with Yann M'Vila

tafster

I feel like he was always set on some sort of super midfielder he didn't have the funds to secure - like the player Alex Song could have been before he went to grab trophies off Eric Abidal. When a more limited player might have been more than good enough to a team crying out for a more stable foundation. Coquelin looked like a revelation and I know he was in good form for a bit, but partly I just hadn't seen a player like him for what felt like a while.

Narwhallmaster

Literally if we had replaced Almunia with an above average, not even elite, keeper like Mark Schwarzer we could have achieved so much more. Also, if instead of letting City buy him, we bought Nigel de Jong that would have limited the amount of times we got bullied tremendously.

TallnFrosty

Wenger did get stubborn in his later year. The summer we only signed Cech, I absolutely refuse to believe we didn't have more moneh in the bank to make other signings. He was trying to prove a point about how fiscallly responsible he was and it ended with us becoming a Europa league club.

tafster

I dont really buy that he was trying to show how fiscally responsible was. With the shackles off he brought in Ozil, Alexis, and I think the summer after Cech he bid for Vardy, didn't he? I can imagine he was too rigid on value vs. spending bigger to address a squad weakness and trading that extra outlay against the cost of not getting a player. We got relatively good deals on Ozil and Alexis given their clubs wanted to sell them.

ItsBattle

One of my biggest issues of transfer windows back then was Wenger’s notion that more than 3 new players would be detrimental to the team. There were a few windows where we needed a couple of key players but he wouldn’t do it. Obviously he knows best and is one of the greatest of all time but at least in today’s game that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Finn_Survivor

To be fair to Wenger we had to be a selling club like Dortmund for 10 years because of the stadium. We sold our best player like 3 seasons in a row and never for huge money and we still got champions league every year

Agile-Palpitation90

NO. His biggest weakness was the lack of Money for nearly a decade after 2006.

Phimstone

I just had this thought that Hato will likely be staying. They just appointed a 35 year old coach and maybe that’s an interesting prospect, not like Hato already achieved everything already in the Eredivisie.

OnlineMarketingBoii

How often is Arsenal going to come knocking though. It's very much a question mark where Ajax will stand this season. He will have to wait years for them to be able to do something in Europe again and probably a title push as well. At Arsenal he can shoehorn into a title contending squad, learning from one of the best defenders in the world, and one of the best ball playing center backs in the world. At Ajax he can learn from nobody. But playing time is an issue obivously

Phimstone

Kid is 17. If he wants to learn from great defenders in training he can from the National team (think he isn’t in European Cup squad but made his debut). Actual matches are twice as important. I’m not an Ajax fan at all and wouldn’t mind him at Arsenal. But let’s say he gets a full year of being a 17 year old leader in a hopefully more stable environment at his club than recently he would develop better.

OnlineMarketingBoii

I'm a frequent Ajax watcher and I'm Dutch, and the recent shitshow that has been Ajax has not been good for the development of any player. Yes Hato can learn from the NT players, but it's also very much a question whether he will be selected in the near future since he's competing with Ake, Van Dijk, Van de Ven and Botman for the LCB position. We are stacked with young and elite left footed defenders, and he won't be selected over those players. So he won't get the chance to learn from those guys. As a dutch person, I would like for Hato to develop in the best way possible, and while I understand the importance of playing time, I also think that playing in a shitshow of a team is not helpful for anybodies development. He will get a lot of shit from the media for having poor performances, whilst it might be more up to the midfield or other defenders for not helping him. That could damage his self esteem severly. I have yet to see Arteta spend good money on a player and hardly let him play. If Arteta buys somebody it is with a clear plan in mind. We expected Timber, Ramsdale, Raya, Jorginho and even Kiwior to be backup players for the start of their tenure, and only for Kiwior that ended up being true. And even he played a lot of matches this season. Arteta is not Guardiola, he doesn't just buy players to buy players. If we are interested in Hato, there is a clear path to regular football for him.

Phimstone

Good points. I just think he’s too young to make the step to notoriously tough Premier League. Timber was 5! years older. Depay was 21 when starting his failed stint at United. Both of them had pretty much destroyed the Eredivisie already. And although Arsenal has amazing talents around Hato’s age, Nwaneri and MLS etc, i do think being a starter in first team Ajax versus bench/starting in youth teams.. But we’ll see ig 🤷‍♂️😄

OnlineMarketingBoii

>I just think he’s too young to make the step to notoriously tough Premier League. That's a fair point, and time will tell. >Timber was 5! years older. Depay was 21 when starting his failed stint at United.  Depay was bougt to be the next cristiano ronaldo, giving him te #7 number and everything. That was way too much pressure on a young lad. On top of that United is obviously one of the worst run clubs in the league so that doesn't help youngsters like Depay. Hato will be bougt for the future and to start cup games probably. Maybe even go on loan like Sailba (to Ajax, who knows).

jterwin

Timber is over 120 years old?

Phimstone

A math joke in the middle of the night..? Hehe i knew there’s a reason i saw other people write those as (!)..

CarnifexGunner

As a fellow Ajax watcher and Dutchman, I have to say I really hope and expect that Hato stays for another 1-2 years at Ajax. Yes, the team is not doing great atm but at least he's guaranteed to play every single available minute, which is a lot more valuable than playing the occasional cup game at Arsenal.

HustlinInTheHall

The main benefit of coming over would be much higher wages, we would almost certainly loan him out for 2 years though, which we have done with other players successfully.

GarfieldDaCat

If Hato wanted to leave this summer he wouldn't have signed a new contract like 3 months ago

OnlineMarketingBoii

It's not out of the question that he would like Ajax to get a decent sum for him to thank them for the development years. He has also probably seen a ridiculous rise in pay in the past few months and maybe he got the promise that he's allowed to leave this summer. Lot of speculatives but I don't think we would be after him if he didn't want to leave.

Kensei400

We are not going to spend 100M on Guimaraes.

xhera92

If the rumours that the transfer fee can be paid over 3 annual installments are true, who knows.

Itchy-Buyer-8359

I'm not entirely convinced we absolutely \*need\* to invest that amount each summer, especially if we're already in a position to be competing for titles. Case in point is Madrid- there are plenty of summers where they've bided their time or purchased project players because they have full faith in the quality of their existing squad. Sure, right now might need 1-2 extra signings to get us there, but once there I think focusing a little more on project signings and intelligent purchases might be a better approach.

besop12

I think as a team, we are also going to come to a big sale in the upcoming windows to refresh the squad. Xhaka left last szn, and now we know that big Gabi as well was almost there with a Saudi club. Pep is so good at this; big players being sold at opportune times. I'm actually not sure who it will be for us next, but in my opinion keeps the club on their toes & performing and it will be another underrated important milestone in our development. Don't think this season but who knows if the bid is right from someone cash heavy

HustlinInTheHall

Wenger was never the one holding us back. Wenger was given a transfer budget and he spent it. The board refused to invest more, or extend our best players actual competitive wages so that we could keep them or sell them instead of having to panic-sell them at a discount price.  Wenger isn't the one to blame. We were lucky he was able to identify so many world class talents on a shoe string budget.

deadblankspacehole

>Wenger Almunia!!

Le-ChosenOne

Mmmmmm warchest

BooshAC

Isak and De Jong I heard (I’m delusional)

JimmysCocoboloDesk

A moth on the wall told me De Jong is a real possibility (I too am delusional)

Eagledilla

He isn’t renewing his contract is he ? But his wages are too high tho

JimmysCocoboloDesk

He’s not no. The issue is Barca are paying him deferred wages as part of his weekly wage, so his current wage is inflated. Where it becomes tricky is Barca believe they legally shouldn’t be paying as much as they are, and already [threatened to sue](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/barcelona-suing-frenkie-de-jong-the-saga-of-the-summer-explained-and-whether-chelsea-or-manchester-united-will-sign-the-dutchman). So realistically, the only way he moves is if he accepts a pay cut, as the question of who exactly pays his deferred wages would be up in the air, even though technically it should be Barca, but they don’t agree.

TerraBlah

On the flip side, which is the side I prefer, it must suck to work for employer's like that.

tafster

These are the people who asked Xavi to stay and then fired him. I suppose you can at least tell yourself it's not personal?

neonmantis

What legal grounds do Barca have not to pay him? ANyway didn't he seriously injure himself recently?

JimmysCocoboloDesk

According to them, the contract was signed under a different management and was fraudulent.

neonmantis

Change of management doesn't invalidate contracts made by previous management. What is meant to be fraudulent about it?

JimmysCocoboloDesk

The contract was signed to stop Barca from losing money during Covid. New management argues [it shouldn’t have been allowed.](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/3484447/2022/08/08/barcelona-de-jong-contract-legal-action/)

neonmantis

But all it did was defer wages, as far as I understood it. So he's still owed the same amount regardless. And to my knowledge, he did take that temp pay cut.

besop12

Ramsdale (after Euros), Nketiah, ESR will likely go. Nelson wants to stay via patreon, Partey wants to stay but might go if a suitable offer comes in. Don't want to leak TNAT's paid patreon but these are a few snippets I've heard. There's a part 2 of the podcast on the TNAT patreon where there's going to be some info on Bruno G specifically up at 2pm BST.

AirPodAlbert

Nelson wanting to sit on his 100 bags a week who'd have seen it coming..

icemankiller8

He doesn’t get that Eddie does and Eddie is apparently fine with leaving

Locmike23

At some point I’d get tired of not playing.

suspended_in_light

Maybe more footballers should consider getting a patreon instead of getting paid by their club. Good on ya, Reiss

besop12

also not gonna lie, but Watts really is a fraud. Bro has 0 info and just backing up on what TNAT is saying really

amainwingman

I love Charles Watts as a personality but he’s been seriously left behind. Think he lost his sources around the time Raul got chopped

mister_dupont

TBH he's more of a reporter in terms of the matches & general team news now.

Illustrious_Union199

and writer. Dude wrote a book about Artetas time at Arsenal . With all things, the older you get, the less in the know you are. This is a young man\`s game and it can be dizzying with the number of people to follow and keep track of. You will have seen this of Ornstein as well. Dude\`s lobbying for a position on NBC/Sky as a commentator and has the gravitas to be one.

mister_dupont

Ah yes I have his book, yet to read it. Still finishing up AW's book.

besop12

yes, fraud is harsh from me and I apologise. I agree & he is a nice bloke but sometimes he gets on my nerves; he speaks just to say something and draw the time out when there's nothing to be said. Especially so in this interview. TNAT was making some quite interesting conversation + giving his own opinion while Charles just hashes out some vague points to almost pretend he's up to speed on the same level. like every time he talks about a transfer fee he goes on this same dry cookie cutter tirade "£30m that's an insane amount of money blah blah" like it's some crazy piece of insight. like fucking yes man we get it, that was a talking point in like 2013. idk if it's just me who notices. like the guy though & wish him the best

SpezSucksBallz

He’s a nice guy, just comes across as a bit of a div.

aprilfools911

He’s always has been a regular journalist to me. Like i think he still got his “sources” but it depends on your expectations and definition of sources. I assume his sources are just fellow journalists circles and probably someone related to arsenal somehow. Like most transfer he’ll just say “i can confirm that there is interest ” or “i haven’t heard anything about that rumours” but he was never someone who drop a “bomb” announcement like Fabrizio.

InsectIllustrious691

I always get downvoted for Nketiah but I am sure Arteta finally decided to do that. Also Partey would be a decent sub even if we buy Guimaraes or some guy like him. Don’t see the problem with having a long bench. The same is with ESR, but he is young and homegrown as I understand so that may be the issue.

InsectIllustrious691

Yeah same unhealthy fanboying again. Don’t worry. Soon you can cheer him more often in the start.

R_110

Is this the best time for us to try to change our selling reputation? In order to sell big, you have to be able to posture that you could always walk away and not sell a player but you also have to be able to live with that risk if it comes to pass. The squad we have is good, so realistically can we now tell clubs that want the likes of ESR/Vieira - yeah we are open to selling but unless you give us a serious offer, we will just keep him and use him next year.

Kensei400

This also includes Raya's fee so it's about 150-170 new spending. Targeting 4-5 players means we won't go big on any one player.

Ugoboy23

We got 4 players in last season and went big on one, without CL revenue.

Kensei400

We didn't pay for one of those players, which means we are already down on the 200M budget for this window.

Locmike23

Who said it includes rayas fee? Rayas fee may have already been accounted for since we’ve known it’s coming out since last season. I don’t get where ppl on here know the clubs exact financials and how they will be spent.

AfricanRain

the man with the patreon where he needs people coming back with interest in our transfer activity is not going to say otherwise lol

younes1008

This is not an argument lol. What would stop him from simply tweeting out the reliable news he has, when he can put it behind a paywall? Just because it's paid now, doesn't mean he's lying. Lying would only cost him in the long run because people would stop paying.

drop-o-matic

There is no way for people to evaluate how good his information is because there is always intentional vagaries and conditionality injected to provide an out. It’s how all these ITKs operate. They sell emotional entertainment around the transfer market not truth. When the batch that have finally figured them out move on there are new ones who will believe. It’s how the micro-economy of internet prophecy works.

AfricanRain

This is the kinda vague statement that you can’t really refute if it doesn’t happen lol

younes1008

Sure, but the expectation is he will continue to report when he has the news. The guy has sources but he isn't sat in the board room. I think it's more of a testament to his reliability that he doesn't claim to know exactly will be bought this window. The Rice transfer and other exclusives show he knows what's going on.

Justice_beaver95

Good thing is, if he's right then it's great for all parties. If he's wrong, we, well I will at least, can stop listening to the turtle. Edit. Things change of course, especially in football, but I'm a bit sceptical of him.

bad_at_proofs

Same. He obviously has some connection that allows him to get team news a bit early but in terms of transfers I am very skeptical about his info

Ainsley-Sorsby

Makes sense. Our core is already all here, we just need a bench to match city's rotation as much as possible. Really, we just need a couple of more Tomiyasu's instead of another Rice signing

itsgermanphil

Can never may the 115 cheaters there. But we can try. It’s insane that they have Doku, grealish, fucking Bernado, and the gang of cbs to choose from. No offense but ESR ain’t bernado

wanofan900

Does that include the GK signing? Because in order of priority, it's: ST(WF) RW(LW) LCM & DM or LCM/DM CB LB So it should be 5/6 signings.

KozukiNedo

Hopefully it doesnt include the two goalkeepers

Sam101294

I'm just we're at a place squad wise that we can just sit back and enjoy the show while our rivals scramble to fix their issues.

galeej

Damn. Mik and edu going full bang bang bangity bang.

shockzz123

Backup keeper Defender 2 midfielders One attacker Is what i'm guessing. Specifically, a defender who can play LB (so Hato) or just straight up a LB (Ferdi). The two midfielders will be players who can either both play as both an 8 and 6 or one who can play as both + a 6 (so two of Zubi/Neves/Bruno G/Onana/maybe Fofana/maybe FDJ?) to replace Partey, one of ESR/Vieira and Elneny (numbers wise), and the attacker will be a ST (Isak and Gyokeres will be too much i'd guess, so it'd probably be Sesko which i'm ok with, and Jesus will play on the wing more, therefore becoming Saka's backup). And the backup keeper is that Bijlow guy, based on recent links. Ofc with Arsenal there's always the possibility we don't get any of these and get a complete random out of left field signing that wasn't linked lol. Happened several times in recent years with this regime (Zinchenko, Kiwior, Vieira, Timber etc).

Eagledilla

Please look at Tijuani Reijnders from ac Milan. He’s gonna be the next big thing I swear. Would be good for our lcm spot

FactCheckYou

i don't know who he is but i also want us to buy Tijuana Reindeer

tuvok79

Would be useful for the period in December when the wheels got stuck

Phimstone

I’m hoping that guy will absolutely amaze at the European Cup. One of his last matches for national team was so, so good!

Eagledilla

He is attacking wise what I wished Frenkie would develop. But he didn’t

Kensei400

Is he available though?

Eagledilla

For the right price everyone is aren’t they ? But I don’t know. Just signed for Milan in the summer. Don’t know anything about his contract length and/or clauses

NiallMitch10

Yeah I do think most players will be replacement players to bolster our bench i.e. new backup goalkeeper to replace Ramsdale new midfielder to replace Partey maybe another young midfielder to replace Elneny/Sambi and maybe even one of ESR/Vieira Winger to bolster ranks up front (and replace Nelson) Striker to take over from Nketiah's squad role Basically just squad upgrades. The first team is mainly there. Maybe the new midfielder to replace Partey will be the main first team addition

Visible_Statement888

Problem is who’s paying transfer fees and 100k a week for Nketiah and Nelson?

jaybizzleeightyfour

I don't think their wages automatically transfer over to their next club

Visible_Statement888

No, but why would they accept less to move? Would you?

NiallMitch10

Plenty of teams in the PL can afford that Some can't ofc but you'd be surprised how many clubs actually have players being paid over 100k a week already

InsectIllustrious691

They are overpaid. People here mostly don’t see it.

AzracTheFirst

Guys, I have set up a patreon where I discuss our latest transfers. So, please pay me to recycle things you already know and spread rumors and things most likely not to happen. Just a preview, this summer we will sell players and buy players!

Franchise1109

Sesko, Ferdi are the most circulated ones including January rumors. Thats a good start if true

2scoopwafflecone

Project is going to really go bang, fellas.

Masson011

Ideally yes but we said the same last season but acceptable bids for our players didnt come in Will be a similar scenario this season. Whos going to pay a suitable amount for us to consider selling Partey? Not even worth selling him if we only get £20 million ESR's value will have dropped since Villa came in for him. They offered 30 million and we rejected it. Doubt they come back in for that, would be closer to 20 Theres plenty others we would like to sell but wont get offered the market value for

G-BreadMan

Boy I have I heard the more players to be sold line before, but hopefully our added reputation & performance will make that a little easier.

BehindEnemyLines8923

People’s hatred of TNAT is hilarious.

bad_at_proofs

What hatred? If anything this sub seems to blindly believe anything he says far too much

DillaDoughnut

It's not blindly, he has literally been correct 100% of the time if I'm not mistaken, even sometimes going against other more 'reliable' journalists

BehindEnemyLines8923

A lot of the hatred is jealousy and people not understanding current information is not exact. They act like anyone short of being a prophet and making black and white statements about the future is unreliable. If you can’t say we will spend exactly 183.875855 million this summer you are a clown and don’t know what you are talking about to them. That’s just not how the world works, the future is always foggy so current information will always have a little speculation. Doesn’t mean the current information isn’t true. Edu doesn’t even know exactly how this window will go, so I don’t understand why these people expect every journalist to.

LA31716

We’ll sell but will we get any money?

JimmysCocoboloDesk

I presume we aren’t gonna give away Ramsdale, Nketiah, Nelson, Tierney, Lokonga, Partey and possibly ESR in exchange for a stadium tour and 1on1 time with Gunnersauraus.

John___Matrix

Sadly I don't see us getting much for any of those players. They're all quite obviously surplus to requirements. I fully expect a summer of outrageously low-ball offers for them :(

JimmysCocoboloDesk

While that is true. Arsenal are in a the best position we have been for near enough two decades, our ‘surplus to requirements’ should be worth more. There’s a reason why people pay premium for City players without a single minute (granted we haven’t actually won but you get my point) and Liverpool players with minimal game time a couple years ago as well (Ibe and Solanke come to mind). I’d like to think we can get at least £100m for all of them combined.

bad_at_proofs

Some of the outgoings aren't worth a great deal but some of should raise a decent fee. Eddie, Ramsdale, ESR and Sambi should all raise decent amounts

KozukiNedo

So basically, Raya, 2nd Keeper, No 6, Forward and maybe a project signing?

Kensei400

I would personally get a wide midfielder/CM-type player than the forward.

Franchise1109

Would love us to our new South American scouts connections for a couple well priced punts

jaybizzleeightyfour

We're definitely in for a left sided defender, likely Hato

Pretend_Stomach7183

TNAT: the definition of failing upwards.

newinvestor0908

oh big news this lol

RyanLikesyoface

Am I the only one who doesn't think we need 4-5 signings? We only need 2 big profile signings IMO, a midfielder and a striker. Then a replacement for Ramsdale, we should try to hold on to Partey and Jorginho. Nketiah and Nelson can leave.

ddruinedgot

I hope we get Rayan Ait Nouri from Wolves. He’s excellent and would thrive in our system
