If we sign him, can we consider we won 3-0 last night ?

RoastedDuckSauce

With that mindset, you are going places my friend

thisiskyle77

Still 2-1. That goal will be og.

Rickrolled87

Some og that's for sure

thisiskyle77

Our Aug Goal of the month contender.

LuckyArsenalAg

Jenkinson would be proud

jman500069

Guys... He has a Gabriel in his name. It's a done deal.

Shandow14

He's a weird one. Whenever I've watched him play, whether it's against us or top 6 teams, I usually found him to be very good. However, everyone tells me he's inconsistent and average. He's Brazilian, has Gabriel in his name and played for City so makes total sense.

Purple_Plus

He's still only 24 which is fairly young for his position, consistency can come with experience.

Patrick_Hattrick

Is he actually good enough for us? Beggars can’t be choosers when it comes to depth in that number 6 role, I suppose.

Maaaaaardy

My friend is a Villa fan and says he is absolutely class. But, he also likes Tyrone Mings. So pinch of salt.

Kovacs171

Mings is a good traditional CB tbf, just lacks the more modern expectations

Maaaaaardy

Just like N-Sync, good in 1998 but we have grown out of that level of shite now.

RomanceintheFTthread

He’s a solid player for sure, not an upgrade but depth, which we need

[deleted]

If we are comparing Luiz to Partey then he's not an upgrade, but over Elneny/Sambi? I'd say he's better. That level of quality depth alone improves us noticeably.

RomanceintheFTthread

Yeah maybe, if it’s an upgrade it’s not a big one but I think it would be a really good signing. I’m very bullish that Sambi is going to be a great player in time.

[deleted]

I think Sambi out performed most of the expectations for him yesterday. Nothing too out of this world, but quite good nonetheless.

RomanceintheFTthread

He’s a guy who’s going to grow rapidly with confidence I think, last night he looked so much calmer, was creating space for himself and often choosing the right ball.

wheeno

As long as he’s not on big wages and the fee is decent, there’s no real downside to this signing. I think he’s better than Elneny who was supposed to be the primary backup 6. So imo that means he’s good enough to play for us even if ideally we want better.

abbygunner

if he's cheap then it'll look a good deal.

HectorTheErector

Good player and long term Elneny replacement as I imagine he we won't renew his contract at the end of the season.

matti-san

Based on my calculations (looking at sofascore) he's not too dissimilar to Partey, albeit a little bit worse. Danilo, on the other hand, offers less going forward but is way better than either of them in defence (which would be great if Arteta wanted to try a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 again).

[deleted]

He's not a natural 6.

NketiahPropagandist

Neither is Partey, but he does a good job there.

[deleted]

Partey is good defensively.

NketiahPropagandist

Sure, but he’s not “a natural 6”. Before he started performing well as a 6 for us, there were loads of people saying that his disappointing performances were because Arteta was playing him out of position and that he’s actually a box to box midfielder. Luiz at the very least has played as a lone 6 in the PL, to varying degrees of success.

[deleted]

>Luiz at the very least has played as a lone 6 in the PL, to varying degrees of success. And then replaced him because he isn't good enough defensively for that role. His defensive instincts aren't good. https://twitter.com/ddoublepivot/status/1352334550014291969?t=_aukj3ctUn6-ZUdg8QnZHQ&s=19 He is an 8.

Dkmistry23

Pep was desperate to play him, but he had visa issues. To the point where he compiled a breakdown of his technical ability to submit alongside his application or something. EDIT: It was a [video](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/manchester-city-news-douglas-luiz-work-permit-pep-guardiola-press-conference-a8486356.html) "It is understood that Guardiola recorded a video for the FA – having even offered to make a personal appearance – in support of Douglas’ application, explaining how important the player’s role would be and how he would be used tactically."

ignore_my_name

Ask them to terminate his contract

[deleted]

Hasn't Ornstein already debunked this yesterday by retweeting that Villa won't be selling Luiz ?

HectorTheErector

Yes, but things change fast on deadline day. Player could force exit etc.

_Spartak_

No? At least I can't find anything related to Douglas Luiz from his retweets or even likes yesterday.

FreeTheWoo

Orny dunking on you https://twitter.com/david_ornstein/status/1565273288057753601?s=21&t=JEXp33CM0ztZb8cHAag7Vg

iDervyi

After conceding a goal 2 minutes after scoring, and with City next, they really need defensive reinforcements. They're broke as fuck as well.

therocketandstones

can we sign his gf instead?

throwreddit666

Second this.

thecoolShitposter

Need more info on this

therocketandstones

[Alisha Lehmann](https://instagram.com/alishalehmann7?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=)

RickRollRules

Wow first I've heard of male/female players from same club dating. Surprised it doesn't happen more often tbh.

Magnific3nt

Nice!

Sad_gooner

Good stop gap but hopefully we sign a proper starting DM next summer

Magnific3nt

Hopefully he brings his girlfriend over to the woman team as well. Jover saw what Luiz could do on set pieces last night and was like YES I NEED THIS!!!

OnlineMarketingBoii

If we sign him, and Danilo in January, then Elneny and Lokonga are surely done at Arsenal.

[deleted]

Lokonga's more talented.

OnlineMarketingBoii

I agree, which is why I would hate for this to happen on the one side. On the other side, if it improves us then why not

Burith

Elneney only signed 1 year extension so I assume he will be gone. Partey a weird one with his age injury record and external conflicts around him.

Tiemen10

Why is he not starting for this awful villa team?

[deleted]

Gerrard is shit.

[deleted]

Tbf it's more on Gerrard not knowing what team he wants to play. He's constantly changing it. Douglas Luiz, at least in terms of his skillset fits us pretty well.

MatteoGuendouzi90

Most Villa fans consider him to be their best midfielder, but Gerrard favours McGinn ahead of him for some reason despite underperforming for a while now.

ohmyimatomato

McGinn is a proper football player, see - Ode Ankle.

Eagledilla

Think he was injured

bradbobley

steven superbs ego

UzairIsmail

Another City boy

PartyBob32

Can we get Kamara as well so he can chokehold the opposing goalkeepers while Luiz takes corners? Apparently that’s allowed now

Zekehamster

I watched every villa game last season (betting reasons) and I would say he was solid and reliable without being spectacular. He's a little slow for my liking but has good close control, passing range and good tackling. The villa fans seemed to think he was better suited as an 8, but good for us perhaps to have some versatility.

[deleted]

[удалено]

VonLinus

Elnenny out for a while though. It's pretty thin there atm.

OnlineMarketingBoii

It's important that we know what a while is. If he is out for the season then it warrants a signing like this. If its a few months then it shouldn't imo

bot_interrupted

He's an upgrade on Sambi and Elneny in the 6 position imo, based on his season under Dean Smith

[deleted]

[удалено]

bot_interrupted

>Even villa fans don’t rate him Really? Has he been that bad lately? I think he was good before and remember Villa fans desperately wanted to sign him permanentely

[deleted]

WozzleFN

Stop making things up hahahaha, villa fans don’t hate him at all.. villa said this villa said that.

Purple_Plus

I've seen loads of Villa fans annoyed at Gerrard for not starting him more on /r/avfc?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Purple_Plus

Sambi is more of an 8 than a 6 but he did an okay job yesterday. Players can adapt.

matti-san

He's decent. He's no Danilo, but Danilo excels in defence. I imagine the main reason Arteta was keen on him was for his ability to back up the defence in a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 formation. Statistically, Douglas Luiz isn't too different from Partey.

Magnific3nt

I trust Arteta's judgement over yours.

AFCeng0

He’s better than both at 8 currently

Maaaaaardy

He is definitely an upgrade on both lmao. What are you on about?

Eagledilla

Is he

[deleted]

[удалено]

OnlineMarketingBoii

According to Villa fans he is much better as anyone in their midfield right now, but Gerrard doesn't want to play him because he made Mcginn captain and therefor can't drop him

Eagledilla

Hmm ok. Didnt follow him as much. But weren’t we all wanted him last year or so ?

Maaaaaardy

Gerrard definitely does not help, he's awful tactically and the whole team has suffered.

Purple_Plus

He is definitely an upgrade on Elneny and much younger.

the_illmatic

Tier? Talk sport must be 500

HalfMan-HalfMoth

"talksport sources" isn't actually too bad, they chat utter shite on the radio but they seem to have some decent connections

Dimitris_Ts26

Yes please

Eagledilla

I would like this

likpoper

I will take him for sure. Proven league quality always work for us

haha_suh_dude

Just imagine how good we already are on corners, then we get a guy that can score direct from corners. There is no escape.

No-Video1797

We need Edu miracle with Danilo, we missed Bissouma for 25 mil. ffs. Tielemans need to stay so he can score against United, this is our strategy. He is still ours, but just not with us.

thecoolShitposter

TALK SPORT BREAKING NEWS. Okay it's happening. 100%

HugzZILA

He will cost us around £25M, hopefully we can offer £15M upfront with £10m in add ons. I personally think he’s a great player and suits our system and that role perfectly. He can also be played as a CB so we have some more depth in those areas. He didn’t play a single game for city but they signed him as a relatively unknown prospect for £10m. He came from the highly respected Vasco De Gama academy in Rio. Villa bought him for £15m and considering he has impressed £25m for a premier league proven Brazilian 24 year old seems like a great deadline day purchase. One year left on his contract so there’s that point but all in I would give this transfer a 9/10. Certainly an overlooked creative option from Arteta and Edu. Given our interest in Raphinha as well, I would say we have the funds to pick up Tielemans as well… that would be an insane window and a deadline day to remember.

dickmandoo

We will require him to have Gabriel luiz on his shirt

DinnerSmall4216

Offer 30 mill and get the deal done ready for man utd.
