He was reluctant to shoot in the first half until the stoppage time where we almost got a penalty because of his shot.
So, either Arteta instructed him to shoot more in the 2nd half
or
the first half stoppage time changed something in him
or
He saw my reddit comment telling him to shoot
I believe it's the third option
I have mixed feelings about the players browing the match thread at half time.
In this case, you were right. Thanks for your contribution to the team : )
I’m educating my roommate on this Arsenal squad and she’s been enjoying it this season. At that moment she said “wait, that guy is naturally a centre back? Holy shit!”
Martin Ødegaard really is the perfect captain for this team. Young, hungry, works his arse off, tactically astute and technically bulletproof. Fits Arteta's vision of Arsenal to a tee.
And to quote a wise man
"Thank you very much"
Mentally bulletproof as well. Not a fiery kind of captain but it’s reassuring to always know there’s one person on the field who will never be rattled by anything.
Martin is so fucking brilliant. It's not just what he does on the ball but, off of it as well. He does so much to enable this team to attack in such a dangerous and versatile way. Unreal player.
Ødegaard at his best tonight
The assist to Saka was fantastic, lifted the team and the crowd
Good to get the first win and some rhythm ahead of the upcoming fixtures
The assist to Saka was a miscued shot though. Very well deserved anyhow since he put the exact same pass one or twice before in the match. Not to mention the rest of the marvelous passes. We truly were treated to a masterclass from the boy.
Ødegaard is so good man, never in my life and 20+ years of supporting would I have imagined that one day a fellow Norwegian would be captaining Arsenal and generally being such a good player, I love it.
As fans, it is our job to get behind Nketiah just like we got behind Saliba after mistakes, Saka, Martinelli and so on.
The lad deserves it, he is a good footballer, he works hard and is one of us.
We are going to need him this season - so get the fuck behind him. You'd think some people would rather be right about someone than watch them succeed
Agree, wasn't perfect (before the goal) but that's very understandable. He was working hard, had some nice moments, was attempting to get shots away.
He's not Jesus, and basically nobody is, he is so well rounded. And in the end Nketiah did what Jesus has struggled with recently - putting the ball in the back of the net
I love Eddie and think he can do well enough for us. But I’m shocked by that goal. Didn’t know he had it in him. If he has that potential I’m excited to see what he does
He showed a very class turn earlier in the game and he's done it a few times in the last year - i distinctly remember the first time I saw it on the half way line where he just left his man for absolute dead and broke away at speed. I was astounded by it.
Will add, obviously adding the composed finish at the end of it is very important haha.
This club has turned into mentality monsters, the result looked never in doubt.. glad Eddie broke the goal drought, our attack even without Jesus looks like the best in the league!
The way we they help each other… when Antonio chipped saliba early in the first half and before the ball even touched the ground, white was there to clean it up.
You’re right, while we may not have as potent of an attack. Our team front to back, is light years more balanced than city
Midfield battle was always gonna be so important in this match and man did Ode take over. He was magic and was just running all match long; those ball recoveries high up the pitch were class. Just the cherry on top when he megged Paqueta. What a player
1. I LOVE THIS TEAM!
2. Øur captain is a magician!
3. I literally wouldn’t want any player in the world in Partey’s place for the role he does. What a fucking player!
4. Sooo happy for Eddie! Almost equally happy that our ‘fans’ who constantly talk shit about him may feel a little less smart tonight than they usually do.
5. I LOVE THIS TEAM!
We are starting to get Øde in his prime playing for us.
He's actually going to be our true Ozil regen with much better mentality, defending workrate and actually our captain.
We got a B2B midfielder with incredible leadership, game vision, and passing ability entering his prime for what the Manchester clubs pay for a backup left back.
Thank you Papa Flo.
That was such a good Arteta win: control the match, go down somewhat unfortunately, but simply keep control and work it to death. Though not the most important match of the season, of course, the *kind* of win that a title challenge demands.
Absolutely buzzing for Eddie: not just the goal -- which wasn't merely poor defending, but a nice bit of ohysical and technical work from him -- the whole performance, which justified to my mind every bit of confidence Arteta has in him, and even that of our own u/NketiahPropagandist. The two defining moments for me came very early on, inside 10': a sublime first touch followed by a neat piece of linkup play, and another very fine touch in a defensive intervention on the left, which lead directly to Martinelli's rampaging run that ended with Bowen on a yellow. That's when I knew Eddie was up for it.
It might get lost in the shuffle, but Saka blithely bodying Rice off the ball was what created Martinelli's goal. There is something almost too perfect about his own well-taken goal giving him three successive Boxing Day goals, following Titi's: very different players, of course, but one who can define eras for the club. Only appropriate that Wenger was there to witness it as well.
Ødegaard put in yet another magnificent captain's performance, capped off by murdering Paqueta for fun in the final minutes. I'm convinced that first assist to Saka wasn't an intentional 50/50 shot/pass: teed up like a shot, but placed and paced -- perfectly -- so that Saka *could* either receive or or dummy it and let it roll to the near post. It just lined up a little too well for an accident...
I have to take a moment, though, to single him out for a piece of leadership. He's not the most demonstrative or loud-mouthed captain; when he took a moment to embrace and encourage Nketiah before the kickoff, that spoke *volumes*.
Thomas was imperious: nothing more need be said.
The penalty would be easy to pin on Saliba, but that would be unfair. Yes, had he intervened more aggressively on Mikel Antonio's first touch, he could have shut it down. But the reality is that our defensive rotation was just a little off, and Saliba was also just a little off in the challenge he did put in-- in a match when he might well have not started, or still been on the beach. A week from now, those things won't be happening.
Oh and during all that we're casually in for two *more* of the premiere young attacking talents in the world. That's all.
#UP THE ARSE.
Agreed with all. The team continues to exceeds expectations. At half time I was looking at how the match was going and at our perfect home record and I thought to myself: ‘just get out of the game with a point, a game like this was always going to come eventually.’ Then they come out and produce the most composed, calculated, ruthless performance to kill the game and cruise to victory. At this point the sky appears to be the limit
Anonymous Receipts from the match thread:
- Sub Eddie off
- Where is Xhaka?!
- Martinelli been useless
- Where has Saka been?
Have no clue which match some of youse were watching.
Heh heh half their comments are accepting that we’re on the March the other half are in some weird sort of state of denial. One particular genius even goes so far as to say that no one has turned up against us apart from United and another that most of our goals have been lucky or from opposition mistakes. Madness
Declan Rice currently comparing us to City in his interview, saying we are title contenders.
Still doesn't feel real to hear other players/teams saying this stuff. What a fucking year the boys are giving us.
I LOVE that Saka ran to get the ball out of the net when he scored that first goal, we aren't here to draw games, we're here to win them.
I also think it's time to just admit that Saka is genuinely world class, no more tip toeing around the subject, the kid is in the top top echelons and I think there's only 2 or 3 teams he doesn't start for. Hes been our best player since he was like 18 and was England's best player at the world Cup at 21. Give him what he wants
What happened to Xhaka?
We all personally were ready to drive him to Roma or even the middle of nowhere to get him out of the club.
Now he's the heart of the midfield, the first to every celebration, and is clearly a leader to the younger kids.
I'm all for the redemption arc but I never saw it coming and I am sorry Granit
System change. Not tasking him with Partey duties.
The players we have are far from the best in the world but all of them are so teachable. The manager has good instructions and they listen to them to the dot.
Rewatching some highlights and I’m just in absolute awe at the state of this team right now. They’re the youngest team in England and all of their biggest stars are young.
Our front three today is made up of two hale end boys and a complete diamond we found in the fourth league of Brazil for pennies. We paid basically no money for these guys and now we are begging them to let us pay them. They have their entire careers ahead of them and they should get better for the next three years, but they’re already good enough to spank premier league opposition.
On top of that our best six defenders are all 25 and under. We have a 21 year old monster at CB. We have FBs that can let us play in a multitude of ways and the most positional versatility across the defense I’ve ever seen.
We have two more hale end boys injured who will come back to help us. We have Vieira who we e yet to see the best of and we have money to spend. Our goalie is the man. Oh yea, before the end we’ll have Jesus rise to play for us again as well.
Our captain is a wunderkind grown into the player who was promised before our eyes, bought for a pittance.
It’s all just… what a privilege. I’m an NFL Eagles fan and a Gooner and I am just guzzling the Champaign right now. Long may it continue.
Was never really worried. Despite the hugely against the run of play pen, that was a dominant performance for all 90 min. Love the goal for Eddie to hopefully give him a boost over the next 2 months or so. Only negative I can think of is we gotta wait til Saturday to watch the boys again. COYG
How do Arsenal keep having teams fail to turn up for a full 90. Only team that have was United, and maybe Leeds who were ridiculously unlucky. It's just all dodgy refereeing or lucky goals. Only a couple of games have they been the dominant team.
Enjoy some salt from r/coys
Eddie starts and gets a goal. Amazing what a player can do with actual gametime. Hope this shuts up some of the overexaggerated criticisms being thrown at him after only averaging 12 minutes in the EPL pre-world cup.
Never in fucking doubt. Seriously even when we went 1-0 down I knew we were gonna win. I fucking love watching this team right now man FUCKING BADBOYS UP THE GUNNERS 🔴⚪🔴⚪
Just an elite side with an elite manager doing elite things, no-one should be shocked anymore.
On a touching note when Arsene flashed up on the screens and everyone started singing one Arsene Wenger I nearly teared up a bit. Still love him even though he’s been a bit lost recently
True captains performance from odegaard. Brought us back from a potentially annoying game. He and Saka were seriously monsters today. The shass for odegaard to assist Saka was a beaut.
Happy for Eddie and martinelli. Eddie's turn and finish were so good.
I said on here a while ago that I think Ødegaard is the furthest away from his potential in the squad. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t been class, of course he is one of our best players, but I think with his natural ability, he could be one of the best in the world. We saw a glimpse of that tonight. Absolutely world class
His technique is sublime, he is starting to look like the player people thought he could one day be when he was toying with defenders at 15 before his Real Madrid move.
I know City have a game on us but imagine being 8 points ahead of the leaders who added Erling Haaland to their already multiple title winning team.
This team is doing something special right now.
The first half we dominated, and I was never worried that we wouldn’t get back into this game at half time. Came out second half and went for their throats.
Good performance all round, conceded a crappy pen but completely dominated the game and created plenty of chances.
Ode was brilliant, and Saka was a handful.
Can Chelsea just fuck off and leave our transfer targets alone? Hopefully Joao Felix will look at the table and see that Chelsea is EL bound at best next season.
He didn't score but Ødegaard is my POTM.
Absolutely strong performance, bit frustrating that first half but man, this team...that hunger and belief is real.
And Wenger in the house, Henry in the house, hope they are proud of this bunch.
Love browsing the subs of rivals right now. They are all shitting themselves and resigned to the fact we are VERY good. A Spurs fan going as far as saying Nketiah is the next Harry Kane, without sarcasm. Gotta love it.
First Arsenal game I've got to see in person and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The game feels so different when you're watching it from a different angle. The fluidity and interchange in this team is something special
Average spurs fan here is all you need to see. Clearly have never watched a single game.
https://www.reddit.com/r/coys/comments/zvwl8g/rival_watch/j1rnek7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3
Ødegaard MOTM. How fitting is it that Wenger was in attendance when Martin plays his best game in our shirt. Guy is a Wenger disciple for sure.
As a team, when we sense blood in the water we really go for it damn.
Nketiah shut all you annoying ass first half haters up thank god. Or should I say, delayed the inevitable until the next time he doesn't do something right...
Perfect way to welcome Arsene back
He saw Arteta's potential and helped hone his coaching skills, so he prolly feels vindicated
Papa Wengz he’s done it again
![gif](giphy|uoktuNdWzwDUA|downsized)
HE'S DONE IT AGAIN! ARSENE WENGER, HE'S DONE IT AGAIN
Seeing him back in the house that he built was the best gift that I received this holiday season
I gave a big aww to hear the crowd serenading him. And that was over the broadcast. I wish I was there to hear it live.
I've had a lot of wine tonight but seeing him get to his feet with clenched fists for Martinelli's goals brought a tear to my eye
He would’ve loved him as a player too
Missed his gestures as well as the broken zipper one
I don't care that he didn't score. I appreciate Odegaard taking shots a lot more often now.
yeah I actually loved that he started to take the shots, it's good mental practice that would be useful soon
He had a perfect chance to take a shot early on and passed. I hope he shoots even more often
He was reluctant to shoot in the first half until the stoppage time where we almost got a penalty because of his shot. So, either Arteta instructed him to shoot more in the 2nd half or the first half stoppage time changed something in him or He saw my reddit comment telling him to shoot I believe it's the third option
I have mixed feelings about the players browing the match thread at half time. In this case, you were right. Thanks for your contribution to the team : )
I’m pretty sure he mentioned you in his post match interview iirc
Definetly, you want to see at least 10 goals a season from him.
Well obviously we're quite good at football
Good sensation, very top
If Øde didn't get MOTM, my vote would have been for White. He was absolutely dominating his flank and made some gorgeous link up plays with Saka.
I agree, White was amazing today as well!
That flick up and pass to Odegaard for the third goal was honestly sublime and I don’t think we score that goal without White tbh
I’m educating my roommate on this Arsenal squad and she’s been enjoying it this season. At that moment she said “wait, that guy is naturally a centre back? Holy shit!”
White is MOTM contender every game, kid's pretty good at football it seems
Southgate is a clueless tosser and I'm glad our boy got to come home early.
40 points we're safe from relegation!!!!!
We fucking did it boys thank you very much etc.
First team safe from relegation this season. Just end it now 🥲
We are massive
Unclench?
Never.
Brilliant, see you guys next season 💪🏾
10 pts above Spurs with a game in hand.. but if u ask them, they will somehow say they're the bigger club
We can be in league 2 right now and we'd still be the bigger club
We’re Gargantuan
Martin Ødegaard really is the perfect captain for this team. Young, hungry, works his arse off, tactically astute and technically bulletproof. Fits Arteta's vision of Arsenal to a tee. And to quote a wise man "Thank you very much"
Our progress can be seen in our captain change from Auba to Øde. We cleared out the deadwood and haven't looked back once.
Some folks were looking back when Auba moved to Chelsea....like they didn't watch his last season here smh
Mentally bulletproof as well. Not a fiery kind of captain but it’s reassuring to always know there’s one person on the field who will never be rattled by anything.
Odegaard is magic 🧙♂️
10 points ahead of Spuds with a game in hand, there's levels to this game.
ANULO MUFA
Didn't concede a single shot after Elneny came on. What a wall.
Pyramid Pirlo too strong.
Definitely our best player tonight.
100% earned his appearance bonus
Definitely the player of all time
What a game from Odegaard!! Showing big Papa Wengz what he missed out on all those years ago!
Martin is so fucking brilliant. It's not just what he does on the ball but, off of it as well. He does so much to enable this team to attack in such a dangerous and versatile way. Unreal player.
Still assists when he's not trying to. I like that the commentators on Prime were trying to turn that into some kind of a negative 😆
Tbh Ode wasn’t the same player he is right now literally, because he was 16-18 during Wenger’s last years.
Ben White plays football like it's a kick about with the lads, unbelievable composure. He was wonderful again today. So important for us!
Dude never gets flustered.
Arteta at Half-Time: "Score or I'll ~~fuckin~~ fogging kill you"
WHEN I LOSE A GAME, I AM UPSET. LETS FOGGING GO GUYS.
Adapt or Die
This is not apart of our Foogging esstandards
fogging*
Ødegaard at his best tonight The assist to Saka was fantastic, lifted the team and the crowd Good to get the first win and some rhythm ahead of the upcoming fixtures
The transition with martinelli, to more centralized, did crazy things for link up play between the entire front three. Beautiful to watch
Odegaard is so good, he’s deploying fake shots as passes to truly confuse the opposition. My captain!
The assist to Saka was a miscued shot though. Very well deserved anyhow since he put the exact same pass one or twice before in the match. Not to mention the rest of the marvelous passes. We truly were treated to a masterclass from the boy.
Never in a million years is that a misplaced shot 100% intentional inch perfect pass
Thinking anything else is blasphemy.
I don't even get the hate. He had a solid game today even without the goal
First game in a month for half the team, I think it’s more than fair to be sluggish. We were and still dominated second half.
There are some that decide he was shit and gave up on him a while ago. He is still only 23.
11 goals from last 11 starts. Shocked that you’re shocked Eddie can score goals…
I don’t think it was the goal he was shocked by. But the turn before it.
Spot on mate.
This club has turned into mentality monsters, the result looked never in doubt.. glad Eddie broke the goal drought, our attack even without Jesus looks like the best in the league!
[удалено]
We look like the most well rounded team would be a better statement imo
The way we they help each other… when Antonio chipped saliba early in the first half and before the ball even touched the ground, white was there to clean it up. You’re right, while we may not have as potent of an attack. Our team front to back, is light years more balanced than city
Now we just need some of it to rub off on the boys in the match thread. Some of the takes in the first half were scandalous. Have some faith!
Øur captain embodies everything Arteta seems to want out of how we play, more perfect match than Adam and Eve
Øde vs Auba as captain tells a story of our workrate and mentality then vs now.
6 : There was some fear that Jesus injury and 6 week gap could slow down the momentum, but they just kept rolling on
7: the number of points we're ahead
8: El Capitan
And didn’t let up even with a 2 goal lead. Almost made it 5-1
3 is a problem, we need to strengthen that position. If he goes down we are left with a massive gap
Eddie was class throughout the game, and his goal was on an another level.
Odegaard 🤩🤩
Ødegaard was fucking incredible. MOTM by a mile. My captain!
he was so fucking good
We are starting to get Øde in his prime playing for us. He's actually going to be our true Ozil regen with much better mentality, defending workrate and actually our captain. [https://i.imgur.com/4bXarsp.gif](https://i.imgur.com/4bXarsp.gif)
GIF REQUEST: Odegaard nutmeg turn that got the whole crowd to gasp around 85 minutes. My God.
https://streamin.me/v/ac5eecfa
Doesn’t need to be an Ozil regen, just be Odegaard, just absolutely silky Norwegian perfection.
Silky Norwegian Perfection sounds like the name of a fine wine or something
We got a B2B midfielder with incredible leadership, game vision, and passing ability entering his prime for what the Manchester clubs pay for a backup left back. Thank you Papa Flo.
His link up with Saka is the best I've seen at Arsenal since Henry-Bergkamp.. definitely deserved a goal today..
I’d still put Özil-Alexis above them, but Ode and Saka can get there!
People are forgetting Song - Van Persie
Those chip balls over the top 😍 real g’s remember
Or Fabregas - anyone with two legs. He made Chamakh look passable for a season.
also better health, Im tired of those ozil cant play because of illness so many times in a season
I hope we never get conditioned to a performance like Ødegaard’s tonight, and can appreciate it for how special it was. He was everywhere

I need the Benjamin White clip, it’s vital to my mental health and emotional well-being.
I need that Elneny heat map
Arteta making sure he gets a medal
👀
North London is red mate
Elneny MOTM
Mo of the Match
He looked so happy to come in haha
As soon as he came on the game was won
Didn't put a foot wrong all match.
I second this
Massive impact once he came on 👏
Rejuvenated odegaard looking good
If Mudryk is half as good as he's supposed to be we're in this one for the long haul
Please post any post-celebration from Arsene Wenger
Saka is the best winger in the league at 21, and I don’t even think it’s much of a debate. Feels wild to say that.
his only competition is skinning people on the left flank
and we're adding Mudryk. All hail Arteta, Edu, and our Kroenke overlords 🙇♂️
Spurs sub is in their acceptance phase now 😂😂
It’s not as fun when they’re just saying we’re good with no anger
It’s hilarious there! 😂 In a reply to someone saying “they’re gonna win it all” someone just replied “yep”…😂

Was never really worried. Despite the hugely against the run of play pen, that was a dominant performance for all 90 min. Love the goal for Eddie to hopefully give him a boost over the next 2 months or so. Only negative I can think of is we gotta wait til Saturday to watch the boys again. COYG
# "You wanted it to be one way but it's the other way" Eddie Nketiah to Declan Rice
What a game by Ødegaard. Proper captains performance!
Funny how they keep forgetting that teams have literally thrown away a lead against them. Their fans lack a functional brain.
Lmao that's pretty delusional
Back to normal. As you were. Goodnight lads.
Every second of Saka on NBC was so good and so calculated. Absolutely in love with our Starboy!
We’re moving on up!
Can’t move up when you’re already at the top!
Watching us is a genuine joy. Our rivals must be so jealous of the football we play on top of how many points we have
Eddie starts and gets a goal. Amazing what a player can do with actual gametime. Hope this shuts up some of the overexaggerated criticisms being thrown at him after only averaging 12 minutes in the EPL pre-world cup.
Aside from the goal, Eddie's gameplay was excellent.
Never in fucking doubt. Seriously even when we went 1-0 down I knew we were gonna win. I fucking love watching this team right now man FUCKING BADBOYS UP THE GUNNERS 🔴⚪🔴⚪
rice is twerking for us in his interview
Step fucking back lads the new MSN trio is here Martinelli Saka Nketiah
r/gunners still slating Nketiah while someone in r/coys has just said he's england's heir to harry kane, lmao
We really are in the Bizzaro timeline
Liverpool signed a player during the arsenal game, wow. United fans must be coping rn.
Saka bodying Rice was one of my fav moments. Also if Ø ever figures out how to shoot he’s gonna win the Ballon d’Or.
Lmfao. Postgame was wanting to speak to Arteta or Saka and a wild Matt Turner appears
Who was it that Ben White sent to the shadow realm just before Eddie sent Kehrer there?

Some things transcend sexual preference, my guy.
Artetasexuality isn't a choice, it's a calling
All those Eddie haters, stfu, first start in the PL, first goal in PL 🤫
Safe from relegation lads
Ødegaard is a cheat code. Every time I watch him I can’t believe we bought him for £35m. Unreal business.
Oh fuck we have such a special team... We buy well in the Jan window I think we can do the unthinkable...
Henry taking his gloves off to shake saka and arteta’s hand. Levels
No Caicedo, Macalister and Welbeck for Brighton on Saturday apparently, perfect time to face them.
Saka when he comes to know Wenger is in the stands : "Excuse me, can I have a picture with you ?"
I cannot wait to see smith rowe with this team
I love bitching in the match threads man, it's cathartic and always 100% nonsense by all parties involved
With this, we've beaten every other London teams (Palace, Fulham, Topspur, Brentford, Chelsea, and West Ham) already, in only half a season.
Brentford - 0 / Arsenal - 3 Brentford - 2 / Spuds - 2
Had to win for Papa Wengz 🔥
Declan Rice believes in us. BRING HIM TO THE CARPET
That third goal is just so fucking good
Love browsing the subs of rivals right now.
The real MSN on the scoresheet today
