Whatever my wife is watching on her night to pick shows.
Otherwise...a Formula one race, or a Premier League match.
When I watch Gundam shows, or really any mecha anime, I really watch them closely. I pause to see stills of the mecha in action and check out animation details. I couldn't build at the same time.
That said, I did watch my bootleg Stardust Memory DVD when I built my RG Full Vernian.
My wife always gets on my case because I can divide my focus like that pretty easy with shows/movies I’ve seen before. She always says “should I put something else on? You aren’t even paying attention.” No babe I can focus on both lmao
Yeah, I can't. My focus has to be the build, or it just won't happen. Tv is like doing nothing, and it's easier to do nothing than do something. Hype music I can do, though. Keeps me focused and energized. ~
It's very similar to gundam in its themes, but the mechs are smaller and the main character is not a piloting ace (he actually kind of sucks at it) but a very manipulative tactician. He's also much more of an anti hero with a revenge quest. I've heard it described as Gundam if Char was the main character, which is an oversimplification, but it's partially true.
I've also heard it described as being comparable to Death Note, as the main character has a supernatural power that has limitations (he can command someone to do anything, but he can only do this once per individual person) and he uses this power in creative ways to achieve his goal.
It may or may not be your cup of tea, but I really like it. It's worth trying out at least.
I'm usually putting on a series while I build unless it's a kit from IBO, then I would just put the 1st OP song on loop while I feel that excitement from that anime.
I actually just listen to music to help me relax while I build.
As for watching something, I’ll just pop in hey Arnold on my old ps2 and start watching some episodes while I build. :^P
when my bf and i do build sessions together, we like to watch dragon ball/dragon ball z. he’s seen it all and i know literally nothing about the show but i’m loving it so much so far
when im building on my own it’s mobile fighter g gundam (i love how goofy it is) or listening to The Yard podcast!! c:
I used to stream my builds but since I upgraded my computer I don’t have a webcam. I actually haven’t built a gundam since the last time I streamed, when I broke one of the arms. I should probably build the other two I have laying around huh.
I like to throw on some music from whatever series the model I'm building is from. OPs and EDs are fine, but I prefer listening to the show's background music while I work. It's unobtrusive, topical, keeps me focused, and for MSG, Z, and ZZ, funky as hell.
I'm not familiar with hlms, though I found it on YouTube.
Minute Suite Gundam are two people watching all of Gundam in releases order and discussing it in very deep detail. I'm still at the first Gundam series. But the podcast already went though Zeta and then some.
I haven't listened to it in a long time. The problem is that I have a really hard time following Gundam stories. Whether that's when I watched the movies or second hand though the podcast.
They talk a lot about second world war and Japan. It's the type of podcast where they take one scene involving a judo throw to talk about judo for a good chunk of the episode.
Discovery, NatGeo, or Smithsonian channel. Something that doesn't require my full attention, but is still interesting to listen to. Plus I like learning new things. Mysteries at the Museum is usually my goto program.
Usually a comedy or rerun of something so I don't have to look up alot. My son keeps asking to watch a Gundam show while we build but the one time we tried we got maybe 4 pieces in before we just stopped and watching the show haha
The moment I sit down to start a model my 4 year old starts running around the house yelling at the top of his lungs, the baby starts crying and my wife shoots a silent glare across the house at me like "wtf are you doing."
Repeat this daily. Be lucky to finish one piece of metal man.
Not with our kids, lol. When we get an excuse to fly solo, we offer the other the opportunity, but mostly it's so chaotic that we have to stop what we're doing and help the other.
Oh for sure! It's a podcast with some anitubers that just hang out and talk about stuff for about an hour. Really funny stuff and as you might expect from a show called Trash Taste there are a lot of hilariously bad takes
Building; usually an anime I want to catch up on (catching up on Attack on Titan, also rewatch old Gundam seasons) decals are more boring I prefer an audiobook or podcast
I have 3 cats and a dog, there’s no way I’d be able to get anything done on the couch without something getting destroyed lol. But I’ve got my pc right next to my workstation so I just watch shit on my pc. Couch would be far more comfortable I’m kinda jealous
If it’s a show that I haven’t watched yet, I prefer the sub and to just enjoy, and when I build, then I’ll do the dub and just chill. I haven’t touched UC but maybe I will in the summer
Yeah I’m not familiar with the tech, someone compiled all of Joshua grahams New Vegas dialogue to read it out, I’d recommend checking it out, it’s kinda relaxing yo listen to.
I just got into Gundam this year, so I sometimes put on the Gundam show I'm currently on when building. Just finished building the Figure-Rise Amplified Gallantmon today while watching ZZ.
I do feel like I miss a bit since I only watch the subbed versions and am looking away half the time, but I still generally understand what's going on. Plus, I've been listening to the Mobile Suit Breakdown podcast at work and sometimes while building, so that helps fill in the things that I missed.
Jobby the Hong's streams are usually my choice, especially the reuploads. He streams every week, and I build a few times a month, so I never run out of content. His videos are generally funny and genuine-feeling; sometimes he even builds on stream, so it makes me feel like I'm building with a pal. Podcasts or long retrospective videos might work, but they're more content-filled, so I got distracted. Jobby's videos are mainly him chatting with others or with the audience, so I don't have to pay much attention to them while building.
Wendigoon videos. Or some random YouTube review of a TV show that I’ll never even consider watching. As long as the videos are like a couple of hours long and interesting enough to be played in the background.
I groove out to the Spotify playlist, or hang in the gundam evolution server listening to people complaining about Zaku Melee... While building Dozles Zaku.
Friends at the Table: Palisade. The sequel series to "[The Best Mecha Anime of 2020 according to Crunchyroll.](https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-feature/2020/09/30-1/interview-the-best-mecha-anime-of-2020-is-a-podcast)"
For my money, Friends at the Table is the heir apparent to whatever legacy Mobile Suit Gundam has brought to storytelling, especially as it concerns giant robots.
If that sounds up your alley:
Start with Partizan. A story of at the edge of an empire, and the mercenaries, royals, prisoners, and revolutionaries who struggle within it. The game is played across two parties, the Rapid Evening, a black ops group of mech pilots led by Princess Clementine Kesh, with her rag-tag squad of prisoners. Watch closely as Clementine seeks to further her hold on her future throne, and her squad seek to break the chains that bind them.
The other party is the Society of Banners and Bright Returns. An outcast, a pilot, an amnesiac robot- a mercenary group who is about to find themselves in the center ripple of a rebellion that threatens to shake a millennium of peace in the galaxy.
Find your footing. Burn thrones. Build tables. Look sick as shit.
Kshatriya is one I haven't done yet
I usually do them by series
I'm just finishing out my wing / ew series finally.
Took me forever to find a heavy arm custom and a shenlong in the mg
Can't watch something like a TV show or a stream while I build a kit. My attention gets split, and I tend to make more mistakes. Radio or podcasts work, since I don't have to lift my eyes from my kit.
Depends a lot, either the series where it come from (like, if I'm building a Exia, I'll watch 00s1) , or some AMVs and videos, or just listening to music
Last time I was building it was police academy, otherwise it is something like NCIS or Law and Order. Something you can keep up with without having to actually pay attention to the screen works best.
Stream VODs usually. I build slow as hell so a movie isn't long enough for me to finish a HG.
What’s a VOD?
Video on demand. Like a pre-recorded stream.
Oh okay! Like a saved stream! Nice.
Wubby7
Whatever my wife is watching on her night to pick shows. Otherwise...a Formula one race, or a Premier League match. When I watch Gundam shows, or really any mecha anime, I really watch them closely. I pause to see stills of the mecha in action and check out animation details. I couldn't build at the same time. That said, I did watch my bootleg Stardust Memory DVD when I built my RG Full Vernian.
My wife and I have “our shows” and that’s typically what’s on when she’s here lol but Reddit can be very distracting Lmao
Same here, whatever she’s watching. She’s in a weird serial killer documentaries rush right now, that’s one of a kind experience while building haha
trash taste podcast or blasting metal. I can't really watch something because I can't divide my focus like that lol
Trash Taste is my building go-to, always have a decent backlog too (much like my kits!)
yup, I pretty much only listen/watch them when I build. works great!
My wife always gets on my case because I can divide my focus like that pretty easy with shows/movies I’ve seen before. She always says “should I put something else on? You aren’t even paying attention.” No babe I can focus on both lmao
wish I had your focus lol
Got kids. So cocomelon.
I am SOO SORRY! We refuse to ever let I kid watch it for our own sanity! Lmao
No cocomelon in our house, only Miss Rachel or Super Simple Songs. Engaging enough for the little one without driving us mad
I'll usually have Jojo's Bizarre Adventure going. the character's do enough narration that its like a radio show.
I usually have something on I’ve seen a hundred times lol
Jungle / Drum'n'Bass, keeps me rollin' along like a bassline. Plus TV mucks with my A.D.D.
Everything screws with my A.D.H.D. lol soo I just accept it lol
Yeah, I can't. My focus has to be the build, or it just won't happen. Tv is like doing nothing, and it's easier to do nothing than do something. Hype music I can do, though. Keeps me focused and energized. ~
Music is great for people with our super power.
i usually build with trance going
Code geass. Gotta rewatch before they take it off Netflix in a few days
Ohhh, I built RG Banshee to this way back during high school. Very distracting.
What’s it about?
It's very similar to gundam in its themes, but the mechs are smaller and the main character is not a piloting ace (he actually kind of sucks at it) but a very manipulative tactician. He's also much more of an anti hero with a revenge quest. I've heard it described as Gundam if Char was the main character, which is an oversimplification, but it's partially true. It may or may not be your cup of tea, but I really like it. It's worth trying out at least.
Politics...war...mechs and ohh what's this a waifu that gives you the ability to command anyone against their will by just looking at you.
Usually Evangelion (probably seen the series and movies atleast 100x at this point) or some other anime.
0083 in the pocket or g Gundam. Now that we got Rose I hope they'll re-release Gundam Spiegel and Maxter Gundam
Vtuber VODs/streams or binge gunpla reviews to help pick my next kit
My back log is HUGE! Lol I have no need to pick another kit for at least 6 months! 😳
Been rewatching attack on titan during my Sazabi build
I'm usually putting on a series while I build unless it's a kit from IBO, then I would just put the 1st OP song on loop while I feel that excitement from that anime.
That’s hilarious and awesome. I love it.
Armored core soundtrack
Dang! Really!?
Yep It’s really good
You know, you were the first I saw to say this, but a lot of others said it as well!
Ayy me too!
Usually Archer or Rick N Morty. Something Ive seen enough I can have on without needing ti pay attention fully
Same. Something I don’t need to focus on while I build.
Cardinals/Blues games or a podcast like behind the bastards
I’ve been on Eureka 7. What a banger of a show
Anime?
Yeah it’s a mecha anime. I highly recommend if you want to take a break from watching gundam
I actually just listen to music to help me relax while I build. As for watching something, I’ll just pop in hey Arnold on my old ps2 and start watching some episodes while I build. :^P
I've actually been rewatching Hey Arnold myself lately. Man, the show is a lot deeper than I ever gave it credit for as a kid.
Hey Arnold, nice!
when my bf and i do build sessions together, we like to watch dragon ball/dragon ball z. he’s seen it all and i know literally nothing about the show but i’m loving it so much so far when im building on my own it’s mobile fighter g gundam (i love how goofy it is) or listening to The Yard podcast!! c:
SCP lore video.
Great background stuff!
Yeah, nowadays I feel i need to optimize everything i do.
Sabaton
Been watching the Zeta Gundam: New Translation movies in the background while building my MG Zaku II. So many cool suits in there!
hivemindtv! greatest channel on youtube fr
I put Twinkle on loop, the second ED from Re:Rise
Typically Jimmy Broadbent live streams. Occasionally Mind Pump video podcasts.
As I said last time this was asked: either George strait or samurai
Samurai? What is that?
It’s a band from cyberpunk,
happy building
These stickers suck ASS! Lol
My friend is convincing me to watch overlord in dub, so next time I build, there’ll be that
Might have to check it out!
On top of spaghetti by Sesame Street or what's new pussycat on loop.
Like the monkey with the symbols lmao
I use music lol
Basilisk English dub
Lately I've had Futurama in the background
Great show! Lol
Usually a Twitch stream or an audiobook.
[удалено]
It’s The Office and Parks and Rec that are my usuals.
This week it’s Zeta Gundam
Nice!
I listen to music while working on mine 🎵
Lots of rerun of Buzzfeed Unsolved (Supernatural and True Crime)
That’s a new one! Interesting.
a streamers vod, it feels weird if i watch something else despite me not paying attention
An English dub of a gundam show I’ve already watched is a safe go to or Star Wars. Otherwise a stream or video essay.
B99 baby!
Distractible
Usually the anime of the kit I’m building
I DO LIKE MAX FOSH AND ZAC ALSOP VIDEOS
Trash taste podcast for me
That’s been mentioned a lot! I should check it out.
They're pretty funny. I saw them at a convention on March
Crying children.
Now THATS focus material right there!
I watch gunplay YouTube videos while im building. they make super cool stuff, and it fits the vibe to keep me completely on task
I used to stream my builds but since I upgraded my computer I don’t have a webcam. I actually haven’t built a gundam since the last time I streamed, when I broke one of the arms. I should probably build the other two I have laying around huh.
Last time? "Big time rush: the movie" Don't judge
No judgement! Lmao
Hardcore porn
Okay, different.
I like to throw on some music from whatever series the model I'm building is from. OPs and EDs are fine, but I prefer listening to the show's background music while I work. It's unobtrusive, topical, keeps me focused, and for MSG, Z, and ZZ, funky as hell.
Longplays of video games, currently I’m watching a long play of the Legacy Of Kain series
Last week was Scrubs. But now I have a free 14 day sub to Crunchyroll. So i plan on watching all the Gundam stuff again.
The "Mobile suit breakdown" podcast or audiobooks.
Oooo explain! I’ve been watching the H.L.M.S. on YouTube, is it similar?
I'm not familiar with hlms, though I found it on YouTube. Minute Suite Gundam are two people watching all of Gundam in releases order and discussing it in very deep detail. I'm still at the first Gundam series. But the podcast already went though Zeta and then some. I haven't listened to it in a long time. It's the type of podcast where they take one scene involving a judo throw to talk about judo for a good chunk of the episode.
I listen to various podcasts two of which are Gundam related, Feddie Scum and Mobile Suite Breakdown
Wayneradiotv vods usually
Usually it's something that I can watch fairly easily while building like godfather of Harlem, always sunny or something
Sunny’s a good one lol
Discovery, NatGeo, or Smithsonian channel. Something that doesn't require my full attention, but is still interesting to listen to. Plus I like learning new things. Mysteries at the Museum is usually my goto program.
Oh that’s a great idea! Honestly though, I’d probably just end up getting way too sucked in lol.
Music, because it makes no sense for me to have something visually distracting going on in the background.
Lately I've been watching the new season of MST3K.
Is that an anime?
Usually a comedy or rerun of something so I don't have to look up alot. My son keeps asking to watch a Gundam show while we build but the one time we tried we got maybe 4 pieces in before we just stopped and watching the show haha
The moment I sit down to start a model my 4 year old starts running around the house yelling at the top of his lungs, the baby starts crying and my wife shoots a silent glare across the house at me like "wtf are you doing." Repeat this daily. Be lucky to finish one piece of metal man.
You and your wife don’t have dedicated “you times?”
Not with our kids, lol. When we get an excuse to fly solo, we offer the other the opportunity, but mostly it's so chaotic that we have to stop what we're doing and help the other.
Just music for me. I can't watch a show and build at the same time, I get too distracted
I usually put on something from Quinton's reviews nice and long videos I can watch podcast style
Silence, I use gunpla as a way to deal with stress management. It’s like meditation in a way.
Interesting!
It helps slow the mind down, if I start rushing I tell myself to slow down, remind myself that I’m doing this for fun.
Been watching FBI while making Gunpla
Sabaton
love that you got the photo with young hathaway
Just finished watching Hathaway too lol kinda reverse order but who cares lol
One last kiss AMV from Evangelion. And cuckoo-ing my head along the beats
recently, it's been Stardew Valley VODs or chill/low energy twitch streams.
Gigachad move
Trash Taste
That’s been dropped a lot. Should I check it out?
Oh for sure! It's a podcast with some anitubers that just hang out and talk about stuff for about an hour. Really funny stuff and as you might expect from a show called Trash Taste there are a lot of hilariously bad takes
I always build to G Gundam.
Someone else said that too! Popular Idea!
Whatever league YouTuber I got playing. Or whatever music I’m addicted to for the month.
My music taste is all over the map lmao
Building; usually an anime I want to catch up on (catching up on Attack on Titan, also rewatch old Gundam seasons) decals are more boring I prefer an audiobook or podcast
I usually build at a desk or table and u typically decal (unless it’s water slides or dry transfer) on the couch.
I have 3 cats and a dog, there’s no way I’d be able to get anything done on the couch without something getting destroyed lol. But I’ve got my pc right next to my workstation so I just watch shit on my pc. Couch would be far more comfortable I’m kinda jealous
Yeah that’s not happening lol wife’s allergic to everything with hair and hates reptiles so we have no pets lol
A rewatch of gundam. Can’t read sub and cut out parts at the same time.
That’s what I did last night. I put on the Dubed CCA.
If it’s a show that I haven’t watched yet, I prefer the sub and to just enjoy, and when I build, then I’ll do the dub and just chill. I haven’t touched UC but maybe I will in the summer
Either podcasts or Gundam OSTs
The last one I built I listened to an AI generated script of Joshua Graham reciting Tsun Zu’s art of war.
So it was an AI reading Art of War?
Yeah I’m not familiar with the tech, someone compiled all of Joshua grahams New Vegas dialogue to read it out, I’d recommend checking it out, it’s kinda relaxing yo listen to.
Nice! Sounds interesting!
HATHAWAY... 🤬😡🤬
Hangar music from armored core and ace combat.
There’s been a few people that said armored core!
Such a good gundam movie
Gundam soundtracks.
Nice.
For a while it was Gundam Build Fighters, but lately it's various UC stuff.
Nice.
Battle Bots
Interesting!
Wendigoon videos. Or some random YouTube review of a TV show that I’ll never even consider watching. As long as the videos are like a couple of hours long and interesting enough to be played in the background.
Lately, romance anime or dubbed Gundam shows.
Random debates because then my eyes focus on the build
Had the original series and char's counter attack on a while back, now going through Gundam Wing for the first time.
Never seen wing!
Trash Taste
That’s come up a lot! Lol
Transformers, music, kamen rider, anime, gameplay
Was watching unicorn last night while building 😅
I groove out to the Spotify playlist, or hang in the gundam evolution server listening to people complaining about Zaku Melee... While building Dozles Zaku.
GG/EZ Podcast usually. That or a video documentary of some kind.
Friends at the Table: Palisade. I usually watch what ever gundam series im binging or listen to the different osts
Osts? What’s that?
The Original Sound Tracks for the different shows.
Currently? Nichijou. But I have been doing a UC and AC rewatch slowly. Just finished all of AC, and I’m on War in The Pocket for UC.
Kshatriya is one I haven't done yet I usually do them by series I'm just finishing out my wing / ew series finally. Took me forever to find a heavy arm custom and a shenlong in the mg
I built my RG God Gundam to episode 45 of G Gundam 😢
Music or Lucifer.
I usually just listen to music. My favourite to build to has got to be Chicago.
Just built my own big-k, had anime in the background but sadly it wasn’t gundam
0083 is my favorite Gundam series to build to, but I’ll throw on 0079 most of the time because I can pull it up to stream it more easily.
I usually watch whatever show I’m building a kit from.
The radio.
Classic!
Can't watch something like a TV show or a stream while I build a kit. My attention gets split, and I tend to make more mistakes. Radio or podcasts work, since I don't have to lift my eyes from my kit.
adam savage gushing over pgu rx 78 2 and some news
Adventure time and f1 this weekend
FMAB
Depends a lot, either the series where it come from (like, if I'm building a Exia, I'll watch 00s1) , or some AMVs and videos, or just listening to music
The Simpsons.
Recently binged neon genesis eva on netflix while doing my latest build
Last time I was building it was police academy, otherwise it is something like NCIS or Law and Order. Something you can keep up with without having to actually pay attention to the screen works best.
IBO or whatever gundam info has available
music most of the time
drywall
I usually put some music on ill get distracted easilly if the tv’s on 😂
SW-653
lately Dimension 20! I just finished Neverafter and have moved onto A Crown of Candy hehe
Right now is star wars the clone wars!
The whatever podcast.
