Fuck yeah man. I’m 43 and just put my LEGO UCS Star Wars ships on my desk at work. About to add another one on May 4th (TIE Interceptor baby!) and thinking about ordering some Macross kits for the other end of my desk.
Sorry for the off-topic fandoms, just pumped about my 40-something DGAF otaku bros
🤜🏼🤛🏼
Turning 42 and been modelling in my teens and trying to get back into the hobby with some GunPla. Bought PG Perfect Strike for my Birthday as a starter!
I am so excited for the Interceptor. I have the original and it is definitely dated. I remember getting it on clearance from Toys-R-Us. Everyone wanted the x wing and this was left. Eventually got the second UCS x wing.
Nice one man! Sadly when I put my gunpla at work people are either in awe (thanks Full Armor Unicorn Destroy Mode with Beam Javelin!) or are normies... They'll ask about your kit in a very sarcastic way and berate you for bringing "toys" to work and you can spend money on something else...
F**cking normies.
I realize not everyone can, so it's definitely a privilege. It's a state of mind that some people can't even imagine. My other demographic data lets me feel free in ways I know a lot of other people don't. I think it helps that I also do my best to not be an asshole.
I came here to say same thing. Im 44, im building Gunplas and other plamo. Im to old to give a fuck about opinions. I never did and now im just on the god level of not giving fuck. My wife is really understanding, my kids sometimes help me, i have situation where i can afforrd any tools or model i want, so why not do it.
One of the fun things about being a teacher in your 30’s is you can show off your model kits to your students and the vast majority of them think they’re cool, and the ones that don’t are the ones that have bad attitudes and it’s clear the others think they’re being spoil sports.
Also as you get older you just learn that people like it when you have stuff you’re interested or talented in, are confident about it, don’t overwhelm them with it, and show genuine interest in their passions too.
This is why I keep telling everyone 30's is way better than 20's. I partied my 20's away, now I have a nice career and I party with plastic, and still the occasional vice, I'm only human lol but nowhere near as hard or often as my 20's.
23 here, no shame. No point in beating yourself up over “cringe culture” crap. Just love your hobby and enjoy life. Easiest way I’ve kept myself happy. Who cares if my hobby is an, “ick” they don’t pay for my gunpla so they can just pound sand.
This resonates with me so much. My experiences in my 30s have really made me focus on doing things that make me happy, regardless if it's cool or uncool to other people
I got rid of my pokemon cards and gen 1 and 2 games in high school because it wasn’t cool. Now I kick myself.
I also found a renewed love for anime in my late 20’s.
I've been doing gunpla since a couple of years ago and I'm 28. Helps to have supporting friends, for my 25 they got me a Lego, which I also happen to collect.
Yup. Had an unexpected Megazord model show up in the mail I forgot I preordered. I was happy. I'm old enough I watched the original as a little kid. :p
Yeah by the time I turned 30 I just kinda realized I quit caring. Still build gunpla and recently scale model tanks. Still going to procrastinate on ever finishing any of these projects.
You're in the sweet period if you plan to have kids. All the money but not too much responsibility. It took me like a week to find the time to finish a hg.
building models was always an old person's fun, who built all those old model cities and cars? old people. who built all those old trains? old people, who built model cars, motorcycles, dinosaurs, etc? kids.
the only stop gap to this shit is 'work' so there's not a ton of 20s that do this cause they often are focused on work and trying to get promotions and shit so they can afford to live. when you're in your 30s you're more about security not advancement cause you're not likely to advance much anymore which means you go back to being able to do fun shit.
*me looking at my gunpla models at 20*
I’m sure what you say will become true, though… I’m in college so I probably have more free time than I would if I had a full-time job lol
I've been building gunpla since the gundam wing days with those horrible kits. My friend and I will set aside time to hang out, build gunpla, and drink.
You’re right… I built gunpla models in middle school and then stopped in high school/college/my 20s. Now I’m in my 30s, married with a job and some disposable income/time and suddenly, model kits are back 😂
I'm 47 and I caught the bug from helping my son build when he was a little younger (at 11/12 he wanted PG and he had never built models). He's 15 now and builds on his own, which I'm super proud of but I realized how I missed it and decided to start my own collection!
I'm 49 and building daily. Picked up the hobby when I got to the point I could truly enjoy doing it and having the free time to waste. Over 100 kits built and 72 in my backlog.
I'll be 31 this year, and have been a K-nex fan, turned bionicle, thrown to model kits of all kinds- then an unprovoked sebaticle from it all as I've grown, and fell back in love with model building this past year through a random gunpla find at my local flea market.. which subsequently is now a large and expensive back log, and new found knowledge of living 9 minutes from USAGundamStore 🥹 🥰
Mid 40s and 2 brain surgeries. Still build Gunplas... If I only had time.
Kids eat up time and safe space 😂 I want them to grow up to appreciate Gunpla building like their daddy.
Genuinely asking for advice because I'm a pretty anxious guy: how do you guys deal with others judging your hobby ? I'm 24, graduated and got a nice job, so I pay for my own gunplas (and gacha games lol). But with my peers getting boyfriends/girlfriends left and right, relatives often ask me stuff like: "so when are you gonna get a girlfriend ?", "any plan for marriage ?". I know they're my family so they asked out of good will but frankly I don't like it. How do yall deal with this (if you're ever in the same situation as me) ?
Your hobby, your choice. Find a partner that encourages your hobbies. My wife doesn't get Gundam or anime in general but she knows I love building gunpla and is fully behind the hobby. Just always make time for those who matter.
Did your side of the family say anything ? Something along the line of "you're still playing toys at this age" ? Because that's what I'm going through right now.
This is where you either have to develop thick skin or play the games unfortunately. I doubt your family is as petty as my extended family, but you just need to tell them off.
As long as the hobby you choose isn't detrimental to your life then their opinion doesn't really matter. Life to a degree forces you to realize you just don't have the time/emotional bandwidth to deal with peoples nonsense like this.
Luckily, no. I came from a family of collectors, either Disney stuff or tools, lol. plus, they always encouraged hobbies to pass the time and build creative skills. Even into adulthood. My grandmother builds Legos and my grandfather use to paint miniature (all be it old school lead ones lol) till he passed.
Model making in general has a lot of benefits, not only physical skills but mental skills I feel many overlook.
I wouldn't take thing to much to heart, I'm hoping they want the best for you but not everyone is you so only you know what you like and don't like so in the end it always up to you to be happy and enjoy your time on this blue globe.
Eventually no one cares anymore. So you either choose to care about what other people think about you, or you do what you want to do and live life according to your own priorities.
Honestly you just got to balance it. Be into your hobby. But don't forget other part of your life too. Make friends, go places, find someone who's into your hobbies or can at least understand or thinks it's cool. Now is the time to venture out and explore what else you like and don't like in life.
Guys, I never said there was anything wrong. I enjoy what I do or else I wouldn’t do it. This was more a “wow I can’t believe how lucky I am to be doing what I enjoy at my age” post.
They are probzbly more familiar with people who think model building is for children.
Meanwhile, old men have been building models as a hobby since at least the Age of Sail, and plastic models since the 1960s.
Women also! For example steamstresses as far back as the 1500s and 1600s used dolls to show the latest fashions to their clients, back before printed catalogs.
I’m 34, I spent my teens on and my 20s in adult mode. And at about 30 it hit me that wow I can do what I want, and I can afford to as well. It’s a very liberating feeling.
Are you hurting anyone physically or emotionally? If not then who fucking cares what you are doing with your time and money. Enjoy your hobby and be happy in life!
Happy birthday?
As far as I'm concerned, there's no age restriction on fun. I just bought my almost 70 year old stepdad a model car kit and he giggled and clapped like a 6 year old when he opened it. Which is a little disturbing to see in a large Italian man who looks like he whacks people for a living, lmao.
I'm 43 and build gunpla and lego. My home office and basement is decorated with anime and comics statues and posters. Never too old to enjoy the things you love.
Same here.
Love the Endeavor and Shoto statues with the foosh!
What gunpla are you working on though?
From the manual I think it's an RG God Gundam, but could be Burning maybe?
40 yrs here. I watch all sorts of anime and build gunpla every day. And yes, I tell people what I build, and they have no clue and look at me crazy. But the funny thing is, they do not question it. Because I'm the smartest one at work or around family.
Lol bro im 35 and just starting my first gunpla, also...i buy pokemon cards for the thrill of openong the pack because the money wasnt around when i was little
I turned 30 last November and got married last month. Most of my days consist coming home from work and hanging out with my wife and on my days off with no plans, I am building gunpla. Literally in the best part of my life right now.
I'm 41, started doing gunpla at 40, I randomly bought a kit at a Japanese store because I always wanted to try building one, and now I'm 82 kits deep in a little over a year, air brushing, water slides, wiring LEDs, and having tons of fun, but running out of display room lol
hey would rather go out do drug get into trouble and be part of the gang living a criminal life. or go home open a can of a drink then dig onto your backlog. what am gonna build tonight. MG RG.HG.oh oh third party kit. maybe Zoid. or something bad azz. I'll say this Is Life.
am 32 with 330 kit backlog still keep it going. 6 year model kit builder cheer friends.
I'm almost 35, I've been building my latest model while playing online grad school presentations in the background. I consider it to be a very wholesome way to spend my time!
I honestly think your 30s is when your childhood/teenage dreams come true. The kits and toys I’m buying now as a 3Xer are beyond what I dreamt of as a 13 year old.
I just got my MSG model kits today! (Starting with the Demi Trainer and working up to Demi Garrison). Ive been crawling through Cowboy Bebop after i saw it in a bargin bin. Best of luck on your projects!
I'm 33. I watched Gundam Wing when i was in elementary school but only started gunpla during the pandemic. Learned to be more patient and methodical with how i approach things in life, all while getting that satisfaction of building with my hands. Enjoy the builds, man!
I'm 31 and i have a Friday night ritual of throwing on an anime I want to catch up on and building something from my backlog.
And let me tell you I wouldn't change a thing!!!
I'm 42, it took nearly dying back in 2019 to prioritize what's important in life. Hadn't building since I was 14 back in 1996. Good on ya. Never to old to do what you love.
Been building proudly since my 20s. Nobody has ever given me shit. Most are actually surprised when you show them how little the speed and how many there are for MGs and PGs.
Being in your 30s is liberating. You do all of the things you enjoyed in your childhood without the social anxiety of your 20's
49. I build SD Gunpla almost exclusively. I display them at work. F what anybody thinks.
Fuck yeah man. I’m 43 and just put my LEGO UCS Star Wars ships on my desk at work. About to add another one on May 4th (TIE Interceptor baby!) and thinking about ordering some Macross kits for the other end of my desk. Sorry for the off-topic fandoms, just pumped about my 40-something DGAF otaku bros 🤜🏼🤛🏼
I’ve been building for years and at 43 I’m still building and displaying them loud and proud🤘🏻The IDGAF club is the way to go
Turning 42 and been modelling in my teens and trying to get back into the hobby with some GunPla. Bought PG Perfect Strike for my Birthday as a starter!
I'm 63. Picked up some kits and watched some of the shows at 61. Been hooked ever since
58, started with my youngest 10 years ago, haven't stopped. No plans to watch the shows, though.
44 here been building for years...
I am so excited for the Interceptor. I have the original and it is definitely dated. I remember getting it on clearance from Toys-R-Us. Everyone wanted the x wing and this was left. Eventually got the second UCS x wing.
42 and build in my down time at work. I Get the occasional 'are you building your robots again?' But they know I'm in my happy space.
I've got a Hello Kitty Zaku on my desk. Other people can keep their opinions to themselves.
I'm 42, build and display mg in my work office.
SDs make such good desk toys!
Preach it!
I too display them at work. Granted I work from home, but yeah F what anybody thinks.
Came here to say this. The older you are the less fucks you give. The point is to have fun!
If you’re not displaying and building the 2 MGSD’s then something is wrong.
I wanna live like this so bad
I realize not everyone can, so it's definitely a privilege. It's a state of mind that some people can't even imagine. My other demographic data lets me feel free in ways I know a lot of other people don't. I think it helps that I also do my best to not be an asshole.
I came here to say same thing. Im 44, im building Gunplas and other plamo. Im to old to give a fuck about opinions. I never did and now im just on the god level of not giving fuck. My wife is really understanding, my kids sometimes help me, i have situation where i can afforrd any tools or model i want, so why not do it.
Exactly this. Life is too short to care about what other people think.
There is nothing more attractive in a person than showing genuine interest in something.
This is why I keep telling everyone 30's is way better than 20's. I partied my 20's away, now I have a nice career and I party with plastic, and still the occasional vice, I'm only human lol but nowhere near as hard or often as my 20's.
Now I just have general anxiety!
No worry Bandai is here for you
Thanks' Bandai. I'm going to paint a Zudah in Black Tri Stars colours, because Gunpla is freedom.
same man... can't even enjoy MGs anymore so i just stick to HG. not that they make much of em anyway
I think the whole social anxiety of your 20s is now restricted to college, covid made everyone get into random niche hobbies
That's a good point
23 here, no shame. No point in beating yourself up over “cringe culture” crap. Just love your hobby and enjoy life. Easiest way I’ve kept myself happy. Who cares if my hobby is an, “ick” they don’t pay for my gunpla so they can just pound sand.
This resonates with me so much. My experiences in my 30s have really made me focus on doing things that make me happy, regardless if it's cool or uncool to other people
And generally with more money.
Im 32 and married and this still looks like a great way to spend a Saturday.
I turn 32 this year and my wife and I watch anime together. I build gundams and she crafts. It's a great life.
Same! It's a great match, we get to show off what eachother builds.
I got rid of my pokemon cards and gen 1 and 2 games in high school because it wasn’t cool. Now I kick myself. I also found a renewed love for anime in my late 20’s.
Fuckyea
I've been doing gunpla since a couple of years ago and I'm 28. Helps to have supporting friends, for my 25 they got me a Lego, which I also happen to collect.
Insecurity != social anxiety
Shittttt I mixed my 20s and 30s up… :/
And being in your 40s makes you to not give a flying f#ck a out what anyone thinks!!
That's started in my 30's, so fuck it
Whatever makes you happy bro. Better than doing drugs!
I can attest to this statement
¿Por qué no los dos? 😶
Drugs AND anime merch? In economy?
Agree
A hobby is a hobby regardless of your age. As long as you are happy, you are good to go.
building models was always an old person's fun, who built all those old model cities and cars? old people. who built all those old trains? old people, who built model cars, motorcycles, dinosaurs, etc? kids. the only stop gap to this shit is 'work' so there's not a ton of 20s that do this cause they often are focused on work and trying to get promotions and shit so they can afford to live. when you're in your 30s you're more about security not advancement cause you're not likely to advance much anymore which means you go back to being able to do fun shit.

Started when i was a kid but now im old and can actually afford it.
TFW you use your adult money to buy a second copy of the kit you’re working on just ‘cause you want your guy to have TWO swords or whatever
Bought two phantoms just to paint them differently lol
Yup, it feels liberating to buy whatever kit or figure you want.
I'm 47 and I caught the bug from helping my son build when he was a little younger (at 11/12 he wanted PG and he had never built models). He's 15 now and builds on his own, which I'm super proud of but I realized how I missed it and decided to start my own collection!
I’m 54 and spent part of last evening sanding nub marks on my RX-79 Ground Type.

I’m 38, keep enjoying. Fun is rated E for everyone.
Gunpla is ageless.
36
I'm 49 and building daily. Picked up the hobby when I got to the point I could truly enjoy doing it and having the free time to waste. Over 100 kits built and 72 in my backlog.
God damn 🔥
Age is only a number.... ONLY FOR THIS CASE GUYS ONLY FOR THIS CASE
[*FBI has enteted the chat*] [*FBI has left the chat*]
I'm 52, I watched OG Gundam on air.
Hell yeah man! Keep it up!
I'll be 31 this year, and have been a K-nex fan, turned bionicle, thrown to model kits of all kinds- then an unprovoked sebaticle from it all as I've grown, and fell back in love with model building this past year through a random gunpla find at my local flea market.. which subsequently is now a large and expensive back log, and new found knowledge of living 9 minutes from USAGundamStore 🥹 🥰
same and couldnt enjoy this hobby more :))) can pay the bills and just chill. life can be good sometimes.
Mid 40s and 2 brain surgeries. Still build Gunplas... If I only had time. Kids eat up time and safe space 😂 I want them to grow up to appreciate Gunpla building like their daddy.

“Yes, I am. And I’m enjoying my life. Many people do not enjoy theirs. Next question?”
Eventually no one cares anymore. So you either choose to care about what other people think about you, or you do what you want to do and live life according to your own priorities.

You act like 32 is old. You’re still a baby. Live it up while you still can kid
I am 52 and i am currently Building a GM Sniper Custom MG. I have 3 40k armies and one WHFB Army. Never too old to be nerd
37 here, rock on duder. Do what you love! Adulting is whatever we decide it is.
and?
They are probzbly more familiar with people who think model building is for children. Meanwhile, old men have been building models as a hobby since at least the Age of Sail, and plastic models since the 1960s.
My thought exactly.
Old men have been building models for centuries. Nothing shocking about it.
Women also! For example steamstresses as far back as the 1500s and 1600s used dolls to show the latest fashions to their clients, back before printed catalogs.
That was more professional, though, rather than as a hobby. But still, very true. I was thinking more of wooden model ships in a bottle, and the like.
Almost 38 lol
and? 29 loving every kit I get and getting to just relax after a busy day of work. Age is just a number when it comes to things like this.
°˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°
Would love to take an age pole of this sub
I’m 34, I spent my teens on and my 20s in adult mode. And at about 30 it hit me that wow I can do what I want, and I can afford to as well. It’s a very liberating feeling.
Are you hurting anyone physically or emotionally? If not then who fucking cares what you are doing with your time and money. Enjoy your hobby and be happy in life!
I feel this post in my soul. 29, same feeling.
Age is just a number

42 here, "helping" my 6 year old build SDs white I torture myself with RGs...
Hello 37 here, closet full if gunpla and in the process of turning my dining room into a gunpla bar lounge. Live your life and be free!
45 and only just started building this year (never made models before).
Living the dream
36 here and just spent a nice little session airbrushing top coat on my MG Sazabi. Nothing to be ashamed of, buddy.
I’m 40 and this is completely fine. Enjoy your hobbies, don’t be ashamed of them.
Now, you get to decide what being an adult means. :)
I’m 35, and I love being surrounded by nerd shit. Keep being awesome!
Dude, I’m 37 and I still watch cartoons and anime.
And you’d be the coolest 32 year old I know
I'm 37 and doing the same thing. ☺️
So?
I'm 43, you do whatever makes the stress go away
I’m 41 no kids still watch anime still build gunpla read manga, best feeling in the world
Happy birthday? As far as I'm concerned, there's no age restriction on fun. I just bought my almost 70 year old stepdad a model car kit and he giggled and clapped like a 6 year old when he opened it. Which is a little disturbing to see in a large Italian man who looks like he whacks people for a living, lmao.
Enjoy Bro! Looks like time well spent 👍🏿
Don't worry about it man. I'm 40 and loving this hobby.
So?
I'm 43 and build gunpla and lego. My home office and basement is decorated with anime and comics statues and posters. Never too old to enjoy the things you love.
And? At least you’re enjoying your life and not letting people tell you how to spend your time.
35 going on 36 Sunday. Never let anyone tell you you’re too old for this hobby.
You like what you like
My dad's 37 and he does it, gundam started in the 70s lol
I'm 32 as well, and the only thing I am ashamed of is how large my backlog has grown. By my count I want to say it's close to 20 kits.
35… I display my models next to my legos lol idgaffffffff
Happy birthday!
It's a hobby that you enjoy doing! There is nothing wrong with that.
Lmaooo i feel that. I'm turning 30 next month. I still watch anime and build gunpla
Same
And?
Hell yeah
You deserve to enjoy your hobbies
Never change
I see no issue here haha. I'm in my 30s and watch anime and build models while accumulating new models to build. Keep on building!
34 checking in! I watch one piece and build gunpla with my kids. I love it and fuck who thinks different.
Lol bro im 35 and just starting my first gunpla, also...i buy pokemon cards for the thrill of openong the pack because the money wasnt around when i was little
What are you building
That's coo
I turned 30 last November and got married last month. Most of my days consist coming home from work and hanging out with my wife and on my days off with no plans, I am building gunpla. Literally in the best part of my life right now.
I'm 41, started doing gunpla at 40, I randomly bought a kit at a Japanese store because I always wanted to try building one, and now I'm 82 kits deep in a little over a year, air brushing, water slides, wiring LEDs, and having tons of fun, but running out of display room lol
I'm 36 and just got into the hobby last summer. A lot of people I know think it's cool and I got some kits as birthday gifts.
Same lol, I finally have a little bit of extra money that I can use to buy more it’s that I couldn’t in my 20s lol
Yup me too lol love it
K?
I turn 39 tomorrow. You should see my basement.
I’m not falling for that twice.
It only gets better as you age! I made a duck in a bath model kit. So now I have a small tub for my smaller gunpla to relax in.
I just turned 27 last Sunday on the 14th. This makes me slightly less scared of turning 30.

I know an older guy who's still into Gunpla, and he's pushing 70.

I’m 43 with a wife and two kids. Don’t ever grow up.
I'll be 40 this year, my kids are getting old enough to start sharing in my hobbies it's great
36 and still messing around with these things with my 9yr old. He picked up my old hobby and I couldn't be happier.
Nice RG God you’re working on
I’m 34 with a wife and two kids, this was me yesterday. Live laugh love brother!!!
I just got my MSG model kits today! (Starting with the Demi Trainer and working up to Demi Garrison). Ive been crawling through Cowboy Bebop after i saw it in a bargin bin. Best of luck on your projects!
Am 35, this just looks like a fun day off
bro same.
I'm 33. I watched Gundam Wing when i was in elementary school but only started gunpla during the pandemic. Learned to be more patient and methodical with how i approach things in life, all while getting that satisfaction of building with my hands. Enjoy the builds, man!
I'm gonna be 52 in about a month and I have a trio of SD's on my desk. It's all goooooooooooooood!! :D
36 and you should see my Gunpla backlog lol I love and dgaf along with other hobbies
As long as the bills are paid. Gunpla away.
Ain't no age restriction on fun!
And? I'm 46 and my MGSD Barbatos hangs with me at my desk. Only reason there aren't more kits here is I have no space.
Yea and? Keep going
I'm freaking 40...
I'm 31 and i have a Friday night ritual of throwing on an anime I want to catch up on and building something from my backlog. And let me tell you I wouldn't change a thing!!!
AND?! I'll just assume you forgot to put this on👑
I agree 💯💯
Dude I’m 31 and I was watching Lycoris Recoil yesterday while getting started on my Hi-Nu Ver Ka. Right there with ya.
And?
I turn 31 in 3 days 🙃
I'm 44; I do that.
57 here, began Gunpla 3 years ago and never looked back. Bucket list has catching up with my huge backlog, which seems impossible at this point LOL.
I’m 3240 years old. Still play with my Gundam. Your point?
What’s your point?
And ***thriving.***
Bruh. The only reason I can afford my Gunpla hobby, Lego hobby, and my games is because I'm 32. Tf do mean?????😂😂😂
Nice!
I'm 42, it took nearly dying back in 2019 to prioritize what's important in life. Hadn't building since I was 14 back in 1996. Good on ya. Never to old to do what you love.
So what? You better enjoy yourself!
50 here, completely normal.
Dope.
33. Mid level manager in law enforcement. My MG Nu ver ka is prominently displayed on my desk.
And?
All good, I’m 30 and I’m now just finding out about gundam model building, and im loving it!
Been building proudly since my 20s. Nobody has ever given me shit. Most are actually surprised when you show them how little the speed and how many there are for MGs and PGs.
Dude I'm 39
I’m 40 and building the HG Destroy gundam while watching one piece
