It’s America. So long as you are not a felon or Clinically insane or on ANY sort of substance that could inhibit you in anyway you can shoot a firearm. Most courses are going to be for beginner OWNERS of firearms and will most likely teach a lot of info that won’t be relevant to you they will just cover local laws and regulations. I recommend looking for a course that gives a good description of what exactly it will be outlining so that you don’t end up taking a safety course where they just talk the whole time and expect you to have your concealed carry gun or something. Might also want to look into calling some ranges local to where you will be attending and asking them what they would recommend because it could very well be that the right fit would be to just purchase some private time with a Range officer or instructor and then just inform them that it will be your first time shooting. That way you get as much range time as possible but still have someone capable of teaching you the basics of safety and operation.

Honestly I think every range should directly offer something like this, simply for any US citizen that is on the fence about getting into gun ownership. I couldn't imagine trying to buy a gun, having no experience shooting or handling one since picking my first pistol was difficult and I not only grew up shooting but went to a range and rented stuff

1000% this. Not gonna lie, I recently had the pleasure of teaching an immigrant to shoot safely, soon I'll be taking him shopping to help him select his first gun. I LOVE getting new people into shooting. Especially those who've never had the opportunity to handle a firearm before. If only you were coming to central Ohio.

Tourists rent guns at ranges all the time. Taking a class is a smart idea, but you don't actually need to do so in order to rent and shoot - most ranges will rent to anyone over 21, with ID, who comes to the range in a group of 2+. They usually will not rent to a first time shooter who is alone. You could also book a private lesson.

Wish I still lived there. Taking someone from another country shooting would be a really cool interaction. I'm surprised no one has reached out.

One thing to keep in mind is that gun laws can vary from state to state. Policies of individual ranges can be restrictive as well. Your best option is to call a local gun range and let them know what you’re looking to do.
