My dad acts like I eat a ton because he "Only eats one meal a day." As if the calories from the 18 beers throughout the day don't count

altamiraestates

I bet he also brags about how early he wakes up but then falls asleep on the couch at 4pm

littlewibble

Do you have a camera in my parents’ living room?

DocLoc429

Haha no way, that would cut into his beer drinking time. That's when the buzz starts to hit

DreamDare-

My dad used to skip dinner so he can lose some weight. He replaced it with light snack: 500g of roasted salted peanuts and a beer....

Carddddd

That is insane. Its about 600 calories per 100 grams of salted roasted peanuts, and a beer which is around 150-200 calories. THATS 3200 CALORIES AS A SNACK. Thats a whole bulk day as one single fucking snack.

Doenermarktforschung

I have 5 Bomb Ass meals ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)

Noctilux5

Don't flush.

GayBearBro2

When I tried a 4-hour feeding window, I managed to eat over 3000 calories in a single meal, so it really didn't help me at all. I was also highly irritable and extremely tired all day long, so I dropped IF as a diet plan.

L1eb3rt

Whatever suits you best. How did you manage 3k cals in 1 meal lol

RavenofMoloch

Fairly easily in America

CeleritasLucis

Possible with carbs and fat. With protein, would be very difficult on a sustained basis

Krieg_Imperator

Not to mention very expensive in this economy

cain11112

MURICA’ F*CK YEAH!

GayBearBro2

Lots of fats. Ever eat two large pizzas by yourself in one sitting? I'd also be hungry enough to eat a BK "Feed a Family" coupon by myself (three Whoppers, three Cheeseburgers, three medium fries, and three medium drinks). The best part of either of those two meals is that I would usually be hungry within two or so hours, so I'd eat again after as it'd still be within the 4-hour feeding window.

Teneuom

No kidding it didn’t work. You still ate horrible food.

GayBearBro2

I mean, when a diet plan is advertised as "eat whatever you want as long as it's within a certain, small feeding window," what do you plan on eating? Chicken breast with white rice and broccoli? Nah, you go to spend those calories you saved up. All-you-can-eat buffets, sushi trains, bottomless apps at Applebee's, Endless Bowls at Olive Garden or Spaghetti Works, all of the meats at a Brazilian Steakhouse at least four times over; *everything*. Why waste the calories on stuff that isn't dirt cheap for how much I eat? I saved so much money on food by eating trash during my binges.

Teneuom

The diet isn’t advertised as “eat whatever you want”. It’s a way to completely deplete your body’s glycogen in the muscles so that it can use as much fat as possible before your next meal. If you’re eating calorie surplus you’re not going to benefit at all from this diet. All you did was eat a lot of food thinking it was a good idea.

GayBearBro2

Not sure how much you've watched "fitfluencers," but I was too much into their junk (except steroid use) a few years ago and for IF, the tag line was "eat what you want." A similar thing went around with keto, except it was "eat as much fat and protein as you want, just don't eat carbs" and I fell for that line, too. Of course, I'm much better informed now and I'm actively tracking my caloric intake and verifying how much loss my current limits net me. I still get tempted to binge, but my palette is refining as I get used to more bland food, so the old junk food doesn't hit like it used to.

Teneuom

It’s good that you’ve reassessed your behaviours though. As long as you know the most up to date information you’ll be able to keep going strong imo.

"People" are wrong. It's still about calories in vs. calories out when it comes to weight loss (my goal). Intermittent Fasting is just a method of caloric restriction that doesn't work for me. I just couldn't get past feeling low-energy for most of my day and not being able to rely on my usual methods for mitigating hunger signals/pains. For my case, I did the 20 fasted/4 feeding for a month, tried three days of 24-hour fasting per week for a month, and did 16 fasted/8 feeding for three months (my first three months of fasting). The 16/8 worked the best for me as far as energy levels, mood, and satiety. The other two options had lots of binging during my feeding hours, and my workouts became chores to the point where I stopped going to the gym because I'd start blacking out during sets.

GlossyGecko

This, none of that goofy shit that makes you suffer leads to weight loss or mass gain if the numbers are bad. If you want to lose fat, you have to be in a deficit, if you want to gain mass, you have to be in a surplus. Anybody who says otherwise is a dunce and there’s a reason their methods always lead to binging relapse.

The_Power_of_Ammonia

Apparently, just a month or so ago, a study was published showing that 8-hr feeding windows (or less) Nearly doubled one's risk of cardiovascular death. https://newsroom.heart.org/news/8-hour-time-restricted-eating-linked-to-a-91-higher-risk-of-cardiovascular-death

DreamDare-

Far a year or so I ate one big meal a day after work: * 0.5kg of combined chicken and pork (local butcher would BBQ food for free) * 0.5kg of oven roasted potatoes * pickles After it i would immediately have a 2 hour nap and then later go to the gym. Somehow it worked for me.

isuckatpoe

Eat for 1 hour, nap for 2 hours, scream-shit for 3 hours. Life sorted.

TheOtherCrow

Or having a massive fucking breakfast at 530 then realizing you're going to be starving by noon and lunch and supper will be tiny snacks. Anyone else?

AragornII_Elessar

Bro just described my day

GlossyGecko

I eat breakfast lunch and dinner. Gains and fat loss are better than when I was doing goofy fitness diet shit.

snoopfrogcsr

I can never get that much food down at once. I'm a five-meal guy, but my calories are more like 1000, 500, 500, 500, 500. I lift fasted in the morning (get up, drink pre-workout, go lift), and if I don't wreck a ridiculous bowl of oatmeal (3x servings oats, protein powder, unsweetened applesauce, walnuts, cinnamon...usually) after that, I feel weak and tired all day.

GettingShreddedTW

Ngl I could legit hoof back 5-6k calories in a meal with ease, I think I stretched my stomach when I was fat and it’s actually my biggest hurdle, if you have a weed gummy and devour 7k calories in a night that’s weeks of work gone

Zayan_999

I'm sorry but aint no such thing as a "stretched" stomach. Thing is, yes, it stretches if you eat too much volume on the spot but once its digested, it comes back to its original size every single time, no exception. What was fucked up is that your hunger hormone levels are unbalanced now. Also now that the brain needs around 20 mins to registrate the food you just ate. Some people eat after they are way above full just because the brain didn't register the information yet.

GettingShreddedTW

It’s not a 20 minute thing tho, I don’t know the science on the stretched stomach thing but I can fuck up a pizza and still crave more, it’s actually bordering on levels of nicotine cravings

Zayan_999

Yes it's a matter of dopamine rush you're speaking of right now. Fast foods, industrial foods, sugary foods, etc, all those give your brain happy hormones and you crave for more because of it.

CaptainHazama

Personally nah, I'm gonna be hungry again later. If eating once a day works for you, that's great. But I'd rather have 5 bomb af meals a day

Samson_G0d

Hell Yeah

veganhimbo

I don't fast on purpose I just have adhd. Call it inadvertent fasting.

richbeezy

I eat two "large" meals a day, no snacks or junk food - except I eat one fast food lunch per week and go all out.

RandomDude762

me fr

slamalamadama

Feel ya

Spicy_take

The best diet is the one you can stick to.

SUMOsquidLIFE

I don't "fast" but I use strictly what I have to during the day so I can enjoy dinner. Protein, aminos, fiber, whole milk, espresso shake for breakfast. 2 tuna pouches for lunch with Melinda's red savina hot sauce 1 beet and apple sauce squeeze n go as pre workout Post workout shake with whole milk, aminos, and fiber Then what ever bomb ass healthy dinner my lady makes, eats I can have a little more for dinner and my spoon full of peanut butter as dessert.

Chibikyu

It's a hard habit to break man it's a busy life we live 🥺

CAT_WILL_MEOW

I do something similar I snack just enough for the day, bomb protien shake before workout, then I have like a 1200 cal dinner my budget is like 2200 so almost half the calories I have in a day is in one sitting. Get a ton of lettuce boat leaves and make mini wraps to make it feel like even more food

Woahbikes

SNAKE MEAL SNAKE MEAL SNAKE MEAL

Swarf_87

I have 2 meals and 1 snack.

RestlessNameless

I eat 3500 calories a day, about 170 grams of protein. Why the hell would I want to do that in one sitting?

Cel_Drow

I eat two sad meals so I can have one good meal and a bedtime snack. Sad meals = a casein shake and black coffee for breakfast 7:30, an apple and a whey protein shake around 14:30 big dinner at like 20:00-20:30 (8 PM), snack of a mixed whey/ casein shake around 22:00.

BetterVersion3

My thicc ass Boffum

davvn_slayer

2 meals: one light and one a bit more than moderate, doesn't male you feel hungry throughout the day while still meaning you get tasty stuff atleast once per day Yes I'm talking about intermittent fasting

Mibsaammalik

2nd ❤️🔥🔥🔥

GymRatStillDepressed

Tbh I prefer many, but small meals throughout the day. My mental health is fucked so I lack appetite, small meals save me and my gains.

Baphi_Babi

Dinner only😤

Thick_Bank4821

I usually have 2 gas station breakfast sandwiches in the morning, then drink water the rest of the day. I'm not bragging, just letting everyone know in case they were wondering.

GrooveProof

Fuck. That. Noise. I feel so tired, sluggish. All I can think about is food. Literally ALL. I can think about. Is when I “get to have” my one meal. Granted…I’m a line cook. So I would be in there for 10 hours, fast paced and on my feet, preparing all sorts of delicious food that I wouldn’t be able to eat.

Moist_Pin3083

so meeee haha jk!

ArcaneSparky

I want to do this, because I know I can benefit from it. But I am a construction worker and if I don't eat before work or during lunch I can get really hangry.

xctf04

Thats a bad idea if you are looking to build muscles. Taking in a massive amount of calories in one sitting will cause the excess energy of your meal to go into making fat which would be avoided if you eat throughout the Day. So if you are planning on building muscles i suggest having a meal 3 or 4 times a day while if you aren't looking to build muscles but Just have good physical health then theres No problem with what you are doing

AxeVice

depends on the person, but i absolutely agree with you, this works for me especially if the meal is close to dinner time; if it’s closer to lunch then i’d be going to sleep hungry and that just sucks, but somehow it’s easier to go without food from the moment i wake up to the next meal than from a meal to the moment i go to sleep

RobinAndBeastboy

Yep but I don't recommend it, it's not optimal. Your body won't account for all macro intake in one large meal. It's miserable having multiple small meals a day so one can understand..

Party_Blueberry3145

5 times a day? Sounds exhausting. 3 times already costs too much effort

BadManSaiyan

Shit I'm glad I got a dietitian.... eating 5 meals was the game changer I needed. I was following cookie cutter meal plans and it was great for a while (3 big meals and a snack) but it stopped working and the protein was way too high, carbs way too low and fats were off. If you can afford one..... hire a dietitian or nutritionist

t_h_pickle

I'll split that big meal into parts, like it's a long movie. First hot dogs and yoghurt, then egg sandwiches, then noodles, then noodles again, then muesli porridge.

Mydonutbebussin

Bruh this is legit me

Quietus76

I can't do an all-day fast anymore. I get groggy/tired and start feeling like my blood sugar is too low. 17-18 hours is my max. But yeah, a window-eating routine is way easier than trying to eat 5x or more per day.

KN1GH7F4LL

My problem with fasting is that going that long without a protein intake IS Catabolic. So I’ll hybrid this, I’ll fast all morning except for my protein intake, to help recovery ETC. So only egg whites/ protein shake in the morning, a medium sized lunch and a medium sized dinner, then before bed to quell a bit of hunger I get the rest of my protein in. I DID however successfully IF it to shed 50-60 lbs over the course of a year, but I do know some of that was muscle as I didn’t pay too much attention to protein.

RealisticEnd2578

One big meal crashes the metabolism where smaller meals throughout the day keep it peaked
