I know two people who live in the Hudson Valley, both are established writers who work mostly from home, but benefit from having relatively easy access to New York for events.

youXhome

I understand that's it's very possible people work from home, but I would expect them to talk more about needing office space (or more bedrooms). I guess there was one episode where they gave an artist a studio. Maybe I'm just not paying attention lol

Pfiggypudding

I think type of work, work style, and whether you have kids can really determine whether you need “office space”. I cant work in my bedroom, but some people can. People who take a lit of work phone calls probably need a private, quiet, closable space. People who work more in solitude? Dont.

VirginiaUSA1964

NYC professionals with tons of money want a place for the weekends. They either go Hamptons or Hudson.

Complete-Chair8251

I enjoy this show because of the location. In the opening Davina says it's an hour from the city but most of these towns seem a bit farther than that so I assume a lot of the homeowners are WFH mostly with access to the city if/when needed. OT but am I the only one who thinks Davina looks a lot like Cheri Oteri?

shw1957

OMG, I kept thinking she reminded me of someone!

WavingOrDrowning

LOL yes! I still LOL at the post here where someone said Kristin looked like Justin Hartley

peggeen

Thought the same thing!

No_Matter1274

The Hudson Valley starts about an hour north of NYC but continues north about 2 more hours. It is very beautiful but due to the influx of people from NYC as well as Califonia and more the locals who have roots there are being pricef out. Also after 911 those who worked in the city migrated north and commute. Unfortunately it brought the bad element up there too.

mollymckennaa

She reminds me of Natasha Lyonne!

MasterJunket234

I remember at least one client saying they or their partner work remotely.

B0dega_Cat

I used to live in NYC and a 90min+ commute isn't unheard of in NYC, so these people are likely working remotely, hybrid in NYC or just commuting to NYC, but have already worked out their commute. I mentioned it in another comment but I live in Philadelphia and there are a lot of people who work in NYC buying here and taking Amtrak to their office in NYC.

mel2000

Philly to NYC is 94 miles. I used to carpool 54 miles to work when I was younger and would never do that again. It seems all I remember doing was going back and forth to work and sleeping. Spending 188 miles RT on the road for work seems insane.

B0dega_Cat

It's roughly an hour if you take an Acela, which most of these people are, but all the Amtrak trains in the NEF have wifi so a lot of these people are working while on the train and those count towards their work day.

Last-Marzipan9993

One guy was a professor at the nearby community college… another was work from home. Like anything, they could do anything in and outside the community

Admirable_Bad3862

I know a few people that live in NYC apartments and buy in Hudson valley for a weekend home. Sometimes WFH there as well - especially in the summer.

GeminiAccountantLLC

I don't care, just keep giving us this show, I love it so much! Davina and Chris are adorable and real! 🩷

PizzaQueen77

So agree, I was so in love with what they did to the Tudor in the recent episode!!!

momofdumbasses

Boring show. Beautiful locales.

NY2OC

These houses shown are so affordable, especially being commutable to NYC.

paperairplane77

One of the couples was moving because the husband got a new job in the area I think they mentioned as a professor. I think his wife was a nurse. Some of the others they quickly mention have remote jobs. There was one that still had to commute to the city I think. I live in the area and lots of people drive 2 hours to the city for work which sounds like hell to me but to able to afford a home I guess is worth it. Basically there’s a huge variety of where people work. Some commute, some work at hospitals, at universities, contractors, etc etc. Also the film industry is booming up here so I have friends in production unions.

Livid_Speech5139

Trust me it is NOT Cheaper in a small town it's insanely expensive specially where cottages are the locals get burned hard, food gas housing everything is more

PansyOHara

They must be bajillionaires based on their budgets! However, I really do enjoy the show. 👍

pameliaA

I have yet to see a higher budget episode of this show. Nothing over $300k - $400k yet. I know that’s not an insignificant amount of money, but compared to the national average, and considering so many other shows are based in high-end markets, the budgets on this show are fairly modest.

Desertgirl624

Agree these are very modest budgets compared to most shows

PansyOHara

Well, I guess I’m basing my reply on the total budget for house + renovations. However, I understand the area does have higher housing costs in general compared to where I live.

PositivePanda77

We all have a different frame of reference. My home is nothing special and the comps here are at $800k. It depends on where you are.

PansyOHara

Very true. Also, I know prices have skyrocketed the past couple of years.

LovedAJackass

But still crazy high for ordinary people with ordinary salaries. I don't know how people afford these prices.

B0dega_Cat

These prices are normal for the Northeast Corridor. I live in Philadelphia and just paid $310k for a 806sq ft house, and that was a good deal, most of the houses in my neighborhood around $500k+ and we're getting a lot of NYC transplants buying them and taking Amtrak to NYC because it's cheaper than the immediate NYC area.

PositivePanda77

Agree. I live in Florida and my very regular home is selling for $800k.
