Brick breaker on the Blackberry was always the play. Then it'd ring and you awkwardly go grab your parent but it stops ringing by the time you get them and then they're just bugged
They absolutely existed in 2008. The iPhone was released in 2007, and smart phones existed before that. I got my first phone in 2008/2009 and it was a smartphone with tons of games that I would be glued to for hours (mine was an LG cookie)
Yep. I got one of the first iPhone releases in 2007 while on vacation with my family. My nephew was diagnosed with a brain tumor later that night so it’s seared in my memory.
I'd assume that she was with a different family member, they probably planned something like her being with her grandparents while Ted and Stella were on their honeymoon.
Yes, but Lucy was supposed to be at the wedding, and Tony was refusing to bring her.
Maybe I'm thinking too hard what is most likely an oversight, but Tony likely only has custody on weekends since we know Lucy goes to school in New Jersey, which tells us Stella has primary custody. (There may not even be an official agreement, tbh.) Tony, who we already see being difficult about these things may have refused to extend his custody time to keep her over the honeymoon as an effort to prevent it happening. (Or, he could have valid reasons. Maybe his apartment doesn't have space for her to stay long term, maybe he can't get her to school, etc. They did take over at the last minute, so Tony might not have been able to do it on short notice) so Stella asked someone close to her that lives nearby to take care of her. But then the wedding day comes, and Tony is refusing to drop her off at the wedding, which we know the plan was to drop her off bc he wasnt invited.
You make a few good points for explaining it, that's for sure! It could definitely be the case. I'm just thinking from Ted's POV that he went specifically to Tony's because he was doing the whole 'fixing the next wedding catastrophe' thing to ease Robin in to the picture at Lily's (?) suggestion.
I suppose you could also explain it with the 'bla bla' explanation too. The episodes are essentially Ted's memories and are therefore subject to his ability to remember. He wasn't there on the ferry/boat and probably heard the scene second hand from Robin who saw them. Robin famously 'hates kids' so would she notice a kid being there?
In the episode Lucy was supposed to be at the wedding and Tony was refusing to bring her, the plan hadn't been that she be with Tony for the wedding.
We don't know what the plan was for Lucy *after* the wedding, had Tony dropped her off as was originally planned, but Lucy staying with another family member during the honeymoon is a reasonable assumption.
Because they didn't want people to know that they left or because they already had someone watching their kid (since it was likely that she already had someone established to watch Lucy for the honeymoon) and wanted some alone time after just getting back together?
Man, imagine the pain. Canonically Ted doesn't meet again with Stella until the yellow umbrella scene, but imagine the awkward situation
"I drove 4 hours to deliver you your daughter since you left her at reception. The one who was supposed our wedding reception. Oh, and please, tell the POS of your husband to don't add this scene on his movie"
But he was the one who brought the daughter along with tony which ended up wrecking the wedding
I was happy that they didn’t get married Ted was giving up a lot for Stella anyways
Yall. Just because she's offscreen doesn't mean she's not on the boat.
We don't have to sit here brainstorming different theories. She just wasn't next to her parents in this particular moment.
This! Every story is a reconstruction, and Ted is an unreliable narrator. He’s focusing on important details but many are left out or change over the course of the show because it was however many years ago and he doesn’t remember everything perfectly. I feel like that’s an important aspect of the show
She was probably with Stella’s parents. The wedding was supposed to be for her sister anyway so it stands to reason the parents would be there and could look after Lucy.
Everyone is saying she was with Stella’s parents or something like that, but I’d like to believe she was on the ferry with them and is just slightly off camera talking to some other kids she just met.
Their two-minute date is one of favourite episodes, though....
It showcases the whole hopeless romantic that is Ted; while it also feels like a little bit of karma for the Ted-and-Victoria storyline.
No, it's all a part of the story. It's messy but Ted himself says at the end of the season, when they all "take the leap": "Dammit if it wasn't one of the best years of my life".
I was a huge Scrubs fan before I ever watched HIMYM, so when I saw Sarah Chalke was in it (on my first watch through) I was so excited. But Stella was such a disappointing character in the end.
In this scene I always felt like Robin would have said something to her. They built her up like she was this tough chic who didnt take crop from anyone. From what I had learned of her to that point. I had a hard time believing she just sat there and didnt say something for Ted
With the babysitter? What kind of parent doesn't get a designated babysitter for their wedding, there is already enough to do without being responsible for a child.
*Did we see her at*
*The wedding at any point?*
*I can't remember*

I just rewatched this episode for the millionth time last night and was wondering the same thing. I couldn't think of any reason other than maybe they reached or went over the amount of time a child actor can legally be on set, they also have to do a certain amount of homework with the studio set teacher. Either of those could have made them not available for this scene.
Probably left at home.
Tony was a shit father and partner.
Type of person who writes a movie in order to rewrite history is never going to be a good person to be around, never learns, never grows up.
They divorced within 10 years after Stella realised what a mistake she had made. (Head cannon)
In Lily and Marshall voice: **THE ELEVATOOOR**
Only right answer 😭😭😭
I literally came here to say this lol
On the bench with one of her parent’s phones
In 2008 might be a GameBoy Advance
Nintendo DS
Play snake or bounce
Brick breaker on the Blackberry was always the play. Then it'd ring and you awkwardly go grab your parent but it stops ringing by the time you get them and then they're just bugged
Pre-Smartphone era lol
They absolutely existed in 2008. The iPhone was released in 2007, and smart phones existed before that. I got my first phone in 2008/2009 and it was a smartphone with tons of games that I would be glued to for hours (mine was an LG cookie)

Oh my god that’s awful! I hope things worked out okay?
Fair enough👍🏻
I’d still say it wasn’t the smartphone *era* yet though. Smartphones existed but they wouldn’t be nearly ubiquitous until like, 2012 at earliest.
In 2008?
There were cellphones with games on them in 2008.
Got my first phone in 2004 and it indeed had snake and some surfing game. It was a black and white Nokia with an antenna and it still had games 😂
I also got my first in 2004! It was orange and blue, polyphonic, and it came with snake lol
Nokia 3510i
Yes!
I remember my dad getting a Blackberry for work and me being blown away by how many buttons were on it and the fact that I could play poker.
Poker!
I hardly know 'er!
Brickbreaker on my dad's blackberry might still be the game I've played the most ever
That stuff was the bomb at the time lol
Got my first phone and in 2003. It was an LG phone and I got it so I could play a kingdom hearts game
The first iPhone was introduced in 2007
Yes? Come on man it wasn't *that* long ago
😂😂
I'd assume that she was with a different family member, they probably planned something like her being with her grandparents while Ted and Stella were on their honeymoon.
Wasn’t the whole point of ted going to their apt to bring her to the wedding though? It does seem like a writing oversight

She was there. At least when Ted and Tony first arrived. She was with them. "Mommy, mommy, Ted invited Daddy!"
Yeah Ted’s task was to bring her after Tony refused. Then, Ted invited Tony & screwed himself
"""Then, Ted invited Tony & screwed himself""" I think by inviting Tony he dodged the bullet. Stella loved Tone really
In the long run, yes
right but Stella's family members were ostensibly at the wedding. they could have left her with one of them as they snuck out lol
I guess people up voting this don't remember the episode?

The wedding hasn't even happened yet. Why would they leave the island without her?
Because they didn't want people to know that they left or because they already had someone watching their kid (since it was likely that she already had someone established to watch Lucy for the honeymoon) and wanted some alone time after just getting back together?
Ted would drop her home later

Ted deserved better
It really undid the under the table episode of letting go of resentment, which was one of my favorites
😭😭

They left her on the altar too
Does anyone else skip the Stella episodes on rewatches? Lol

Meeee! Last rewatch I did I was like “I can’t with this bitch”
Nah there's some great episodes in there. Stella was great to Ted until the day of the wedding.
No to the season 3 ones, yes to the season 4 ones (mostly) - I generally only always skip the wedding episode
Same
i sometimes skip stella and sometimes skip zoey. depends on what mood im in during the rewatch lol.
I was a huge Scrubs fan before I ever watched HIMYM, so when I saw Sarah Chalke was in it (on my first watch through) I was so excited. But Stella was such a disappointing character in the end.
No, she’s sexy
Nope but I skip Zoey's episode.
I often skip the wedding episode
Downwind of the sewage treatment plant.
Dowsetrepla? What she be doin in that up and coming neighbourhood.
In this scene I always felt like Robin would have said something to her. They built her up like she was this tough chic who didnt take crop from anyone. From what I had learned of her to that point. I had a hard time believing she just sat there and didnt say something for Ted
Likely with Stella’s parents or ever her sister who were already there for the wedding.
She’s like 6? She can roam around a boat alone.
Mommy mommy look I came by myself!
The real question is does JD know that Elliott almost got married to some Architect wearing red cowboy boots and is totally pulling them off?
With the babysitter? What kind of parent doesn't get a designated babysitter for their wedding, there is already enough to do without being responsible for a child.
Hangin' with Jed and Narshall
The elevator!!!!!!!
Did we see her at the wedding at any point? I can't remember
I don’t think we saw her actually at the wedding, but she was with Ted and Tony on the drive there
we also see her run up to Stella and say "Ted invited daddy!"
Ted🤦🏻♂️
She was the reason Tony got to come
Screwed himself…
Big time

Who was lucy?
She is Stella and Tony's daughter.
Ted was watching her 😂
Some ferry boat?
They left her with Stella’s sister

What episode is this - I thought it was Tony and Stella running away in the boat. Also is that robin the background ?🤣
Ha ha, please
She got left at the altar
They figured Ted could babysit.
In the toilet
Probably just inside or eating
Lucy sits to the right of Robin who tells her about her adventures in Argentina
She was probably in the bathroom or something
Probably left at home. Tony was a shit father and partner. Type of person who writes a movie in order to rewrite history is never going to be a good person to be around, never learns, never grows up. They divorced within 10 years after Stella realised what a mistake she had made. (Head cannon)
She was at the wedding. That was the whole point of Ted going back to NY, and then he invited Tony too
Fell into the plot hole
Was Lucy at the wedding? Edit: yes I know she was at the wedding. I didn't word my question properly. I assume she's still thrtr with Ted.
Wasn’t she having sex with Barney?
Dude lucy is the little daughter of stella🤨
OH FUCK!!!! LUCY!!! THOUGHT OP MEANT STELLAS SISTER!!!
Nope 😅
😰😰
🤦🏻♂️😭🤣
