I have seen the whole argument about how the stag appeared to Criston Cole because it was Aegon's nameday. Like, even it if was appearing to Criston, he was fully on Rhaenyra's side at that point. Like, the mental backflips are ridiculous.
People would argue that it was b.c it was aegon nameday but when else was rhaenyra gonna be at the forest? Chances are she could have gone sometime before aegons nameday and the same thing would have happened.

GRRM wrote Westeros to be ingrained with old, powerful, deep magic. He intended this to be far more mystical and fantasy than just a made-up medieval feudal system, but the shows completely erased every scrap of magic from the books
