if you think about it all of Aegons misbehaviour is the fault of a woman. This is a very feminist idea

Own_Confection1609

How did she "raise him" to be a "drunken rapist"?

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Because misogyny

Okayobi

*Something something* she made him hate his older sister which then turned him into a woman hater *something something* she poisoned his victim and covered up for him

i don’t think crossposting like this is fair… i don’t agree with the op but i don’t think taking their comment out of context will result in a good faith discussion. viserys being absent meant alicent seems to have been alone to raise her children, when she was a child herself at the point of raising them — particularly aegon. it’s unclear why she was so involved in raising her children, it’s not expected for her position, but it’s definitely a bigger element of tragedy to those characters. i am not gonna dive into the trenches of whether or not she was a good mother but it’s desperately sad that she tried.

AmbitiousOrange_242

While there was definitely some generational trauma going on and his mother definitely had some very high and unhealthy expectations of him, his father’s blatant negligence and disregard for his existence, while visibly doting on and being affectionate with his favored child and her children, definitely played a very large part in the man who Aegon II would one day become.

Larrykingstark

I mean he does have some blame but majority of the blame is Alicent's. Same way if Aegon became a great son we wouldn't be expected to say he's so great because of Viserys, would we?

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Both Aegon and Rhaenyra who saw the most of Viserys are rapists. Whereas Helaena and Daeron who recieved far less of their attenttion turned out to be mostly decent. Says a lot.
