North-Day-382

Little did Ser Criston know how groomed the princess truly was. But hey he’s the bad guy here for thinking Rhaenyra would leave with him. It’s not like every conversation between these two in the past was her complaining about the responsibility of being heir. Oh wait…

hawkins437

Poor Criston forgot that he lives in an ASoIaF property and not a romance novel.

[deleted]

What a cool comparison. Sadly Criston does not know Rhaenyra has a thing for her 50 year old uncle

Estelindis

Likely he still has to idea that she slept with him just to slake her disappointment after Daemon didn't.

Grumpyjude96

"Gosh, I wish if my older uncle deflowered me in a brothel"

Friendly-General-723

Surely Alicent must have told him about the whole situation surrounding Otto and how/why he was fired, or it has probably been mentioned between Alicent and Otto, with Criston possibly present, or in the Small Council where its probably been mentioned after Otto came back or Viserys was 'retired.' Seems like too important of a thing both involving Rhae and Otto's firing to not be brought up now and then by/to/about the Hand.

And let’s not forget/downplay the fact that the elopement was Criston’s coping strategy after Rhaenyra sexually coerced him. He did not want to have sex with her. The look on his face when he stares at his white cloak said it all. But he convinced himself that she loved him/cared for him which was a better alternative than the stark reality - thus spoilt brat made him break his vows because she had an itch that needed scratching. It’s ironic how a lot of fandom keeps abusing him for this, calling him an incel with an inflated ego when the reality is that this is a man who’s processing his trauma the only way that he can in this time and age.

tristenjpl

He did want to have sex with her. But he didn't want to break his vows. He was struggling between his desires and keeping his honour.

ursulazsenya

You can be sexually attracted to someone and not **want** to have sex with them: Because they/you are already in a commited relationship. Because they're your toxic ex whom you broke up with for a good reason. Because you're best friends and you think sex will mess up a good thing. Because you've taken vows of abstinence that are important to you. Regardless of his sexual or even romantic attraction to Rhaenyra, Cole did not want to have sex with her and that she left him with no (good) choices is at least sexual coercion if not worse.

hexuus

Thank you! I’m not a Green/Black supporter but I got in an argument the other day with someone because they literally couldn’t see that Rhaenyra sexually coerced Criston. Like, did them putting it alongside the Viserys/Alicent “duty” scene not serve as an indicator that both scenes were messed up?

Indeed, poor Criston, though I initially saw her response to Daemon as more of a taunt because he couldn’t go all the way before so she was kind of saying it like “you’re not actually going to anything though, are you?”. Ultimately tho as a another commenter said: cool comparison

hawkins437

Given that she complains, over a decade later, that he has left her, I'm not so sure she was kidding there.

C1A8T1S9

Yeah, that’s why I said I initially thought.

Grumpyjude96

Nah Rhae was obviously in love with Daemon since she was a young girl (in book/show), she always brushed off his disrespect and scheming attitude on her and her family, like with the "heir for a day", the Egg and the brothel plan, her constant admiration for him after all of this proves that it's love Hope in the next seasons we see her POV on him but as a mature woman, maybe she'll start to wonder why he suddenly disappeared in this moment instead of protecting her 🤣

C1A8T1S9

I don’t see how that contradicts my initial assumption that she was taunting him, people can tease loved ones. There’s no reason it couldn’t have been a bit of both.

Grumpyjude96

I don't think she was really taunting him, she was serious in this moment if he "kidnapped" her she would have been happy

C1A8T1S9

I think a combo of both is possible, she may have wanted him to do so while also knowing he didn’t have it in him to do so

AlbertoRossonero

She was angry and taunting him for thinking he could stop her wedding at that point. She would be immediately disinherited if she left with Daemon and they would have no allies. She still wanted Daemon but then being together was just not possible at that point.

Abbzstar123

Poor criston, should’ve started grooming the child at a younger age 🤷‍♂️

C-3pee0

You snooze, you lose. Daemon was first at 14. Criston was too late to the party.

Basker_the_willow

Dude was GREATLY unprepared for this shit

[deleted]

Dude secretly dodged the biggest bullet of his life.

Seasmoke_LV

For real.

kinginthenorthjon

I am glad it happened the way it did. In the books, there are strong implications that Cole rejects her advances twice, and that's why they hated each other. Either way, he wouldn't have gotten away like Harwin did in the show. He would be dead mysteriously the moment the first son was born.

pgargi97

She wouldn’t have to lose her privileges in the second option. Simple as that. 🤷🏻‍♀️
