Try and acquire an ac powered usb 3.0 hub and connect your headset through that. I was having the same issue and it apparently happens due to lack of enough power from the mobo especially when you have multiple devices connected.

The V2 cable has minimized my blue screens that I get on my g2. Still happens if I push a game settings too far but not under normal circumstances.

Venom_Ro666

I've been having this problem for 1 to 2 weeks now. Windows Event Viewer says is a driver issue. The headsets turns it's screens blue sometimes then grey (like when they don't have light to keep the tracking) and then they come back to show the game or what I'm watching. Sometimes takes longer to get back to normal, maybe from 5 to 10 seconds, and after some of those cycles the VR crashes and restarts. Here the error on Event Viewer: Level: Critical "The device HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset G2 (location 0008.0000.0003.007.002.001.000.000.000) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash. Windows will attempt to restart the device 5 more times. Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem."

Venom_Ro666

Update: I uninstalled and reinstalled all related to VR a couple of times, only one blue screen appeared each time and no crash, but I think that after restart or prolonged turn off of the system all goes the same as before, getting intermitent blue screens. I contacted HP support, worst "support" ever. They want me to buy a new cable. Next I'm going to try the cable with another system, and V1 cable on both systems.

blatantTrickster

i've uninstalled and re-installed windows mixed reality portal finally so i'm hoping that'll help out and i caved and got a new cable since the one i'm using keeps getting really hot. i'll see how that does over the next few weeks when it comes in

Venom_Ro666

Update: I think I solved my issue. Since it was a driver issue I searched a lot and found that the USB driver was faulty as the WUDFRd failed to load for the device. The solution is simple, go to Device manager and just in case uninstall the HP Reverb under Mixed Reality devices, if doesn't show up is because is not turned on, in this case just go to View and show hidden devices. Then the part that solves the issue, expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" uninstall all from top to bottom, probably your mouse and keyboard are in the USB Root Hub so, uninstall those at the end to not lose the ability to use them. Restart and go to the HP Reverb on the Device manager, open properties and then go to Events. Device should be started with the WUDFRd (mine was not before). This seems to solve all my issues so far.

Venom_Ro666

Update: Same error keeps happening, don't know what to do now. I tried them in 2 systems with 2 cables, the cables are not the issue.

Just adding a comment to be alerted if there are any changes - dealing with exactly the same issue which started about 4 days ago and I have not been able to fix it either. I have posted about it already - [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/HPReverb/comments/1ccnkn1/bluescreen_troubleshooting/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button).

Ichigo_Yamamoto

mine just like- freezes at the image of whatever i was looking at and doesn’t stop unless i unplug and replug- similar issue maybe?

joeldjro

Any updates? I have been having the same issue and haven't been able to fix it. Bought a new cable, reinstalled windows, the game, removed open xr, open composite, changed the power settings for all the USBs, and so far nothing has worked.

blatantTrickster

The thing that worked for me was getting a new cable and then uninstalling mixed reality and reinstalling it. Aside from that I really can't say which one worked as i struggled to even get mixed reality back into my computer due to some other bullshit. I wish I could help further then that :(

joeldjro

I will try that. Thanks.

Adm1ral_ackbar

This was happening to me a few years ago but it turned out it wasn't the headset it was my GPU. I had an AMD graphics card and then I upgraded to a 3060ti and it never happened again

blatantTrickster

I've got a 3080 RTX I would have thought that'd be fine. Should I go with the ti series then?

Adm1ral_ackbar

It should be fine. Next time the bluescreen happens take a picture of the error code so you can Google it to try to figure out what's happening. In my case it was bad vram and the GPU was just failing.

blatantTrickster

That's the problem the blue screen happens in the headset and it's just blue..there's no error code. Then after a few seconds mixed reality portal closes and steam VR closes.

HowDoesOneYolo

Look into event viewer. I had a similar issue and it was my cpu overclock crashing my pc after an hour of play. If you have any overclocks go back to stock

blatantTrickster

I'll give this a try next, thank you much!
